We stopped by the Hamilton-Turner Inn while staying across the street during a six-day visit to Savannah for Valentine's weekend. From the exterior and rear courtyard, the property appeared beautiful, so we went to the front to inquire about room rates and availability and to briefly view the lobby to determine whether we might stay here on a future visit. Before we could even step inside, we were abruptly stopped by a staff member who was extremely rude and dismissive. We calmly explained that we were staying nearby and were interested in possibly booking a stay in the future. Despite this, he physically blocked our entry, repeatedly pointed to the "registered guests only" sign, and told us to "look online" in a belittling, condescending tone. The manner in which we were treated felt judgmental and based solely on outward appearance, which was humiliating and deeply uncomfortable. The interaction occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Friday, February 13th, and left us feeling embarrassed and unwelcome during what was meant to be a celebratory Valentine's weekend trip. Hospitality is about making people feel welcome, not judged or dismissed. Management should consider customer service training, as this type of interaction has no place in a hospitality environment. Based on this experience alone, we would not consider staying here in the future. read more

We were very impressed with the property at first glance, both outside and inside. The interior design was superb and made a wonderful first impression. After spending a few hours at the Inn, however, I began to notice some cleanliness issues. While the main surfaces appeared to be kept up reasonably well, a closer look revealed dust and debris under furniture, on the hardwood floors, on the dining room rugs, and behind open doors. While sitting in a side chair in our room, the light from the window revealed a dusty and dirty wooden bed rail, as well as a dusty floor under the bedside chest. I also had to retrieve something that had fallen under the bed, and I was surprised to find what looked like about an inch of dust on the area rug underneath. It was very obvious where the vacuum had stopped and could not reach, which was quite unpleasant. The bathrooms were decent overall, but there was hair and debris around the vanity sink legs. The toilet also had a ring in it that did not come off when I tested to see whether it could simply be wiped clean. We did enjoy the daily evening wine and hors d'oeuvres, although on two of the four days we were there, they were put out late. The fresh cookies each day were delicious, and we appreciated being able to ask for a soda. The staff were very friendly, and we especially enjoyed our breakfast server, though it would have been nice if his hair had been kept out of his eyes during service. After our first night, our room was not tended to, so we made sure to put out the "make up room" sign on the following days. We also noticed that some of the furniture in the parlor is beginning to show wear, particularly on the arms. Overall, the Inn has beautiful design and a welcoming atmosphere, but it would benefit greatly from a much deeper level of cleaning and a bit more attention to maintenance and housekeeping details. You need to "schedule" your complimentary breakfast and be done in 30 minutes. We arrived to the hotel early, and the manager would not let us in. He literally went inside and locked us out. The management is weird and creepy. It's sad because it could be a great place. We loved everything else about our stay in Savanah. But be warned about this place. And be ready to park your car in a public ramp. They wait for you to arrive before telling you there is no parking. read more

The Inn is steeped in history with fabulous architecture and some fascinating tidbits including Disney's haunted mansion being inspired from this location. The location is excellent - in the heart of Savannah's historic district. The staff was responsive to an immediate concern about the lack of room clealiness which they resolved promptly. The afternoon charcuterie and wine was nice also. But unfortunately, we had more negatives than positives. The breakfasts were just "ok" with only one dish offered and no options for selection. The service was distracted, slow, and lacked congeniality. The room was not stocked with an extra blanket which we needed when the temperature got cold at night, but when we asked, they supplied us with an additional blanket. Although they advertised special chocolates would be placed during the evening downturn service, we did not receive any during our stay. And the water was not restocked in the room nor readily available in the reception area. We will likely look for alternative lodging for future trips. read more

We really enjoyed the breakfast every morning, and the sharp young man who took care of us. The cookies and drinks in the Parlor, and the evening reception were a very nice treat. Where do I begin on this . My second time to Savannah but I can say when my third occurs I won't stay anywhere else! Starting with easy reservations(and changes) and welcome reception! We got in way before checking and they helped us find parking and texted us personally when room was ready (again before checkin time). The extras are amazing . We had the most beautiful premier room I have ever stayed in. The staff (Steven and Buffy) were amazing and took great care of us. Always checking to make sure everything was perfect! Yup it was! Steven found out it was our anniversary and he brought up a bottle of bubbly for us to enjoy! The breakfast is amazing ( ricotta pancake, egg and sausage, Avocado toast and bacon) served to you in a beautiful intimate dining room. Bed Bugs: we stayed there in October (room 303) and me and my partner both woke up the second night itching. We thought it must have been bitt m by mosquitoes. The third night was unbearable as we were itching so bad. I am as unable to find evidence of bedbugs (only looked for blood stains on mattress) but texted the hotel on our drive back to Florida when we both realized the extent of our bights. They insist they do not have them and suggested we were bitten before we came there. We were home before going and have no issues at home. We threw always out suitcases and clothes we brought with us so we would not transport them into our house. We will never stay there again. read more

Me and a friend stayed 2 nights at this hotel, the stay was a highlight of our Savannah visit. It was charming, classic southern, and conveniently located between the park, waterfront and bar streets. When we arrived, the concierge went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and gave us the numbers to reach her anytime. She booked our time slot for breakfast the following day, and brought us each glasses of wine. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious, the bed and pillows were comfy, and the decor was elegant. We were in one of the front facing garden level rooms, so we had a private entrance from outside the hotel which was a really nice during Covid. We enjoyed comp. breakfast daily (delicious), and comp. happy hour daily and spent the rest of our days exploring the town! read more

This review is long overdue! This was the most incredible place I have ever been. The home was so breathtaking and made you feel like you had stepped back in time. From the moment we walked in the door the staff was so friendly. The gentleman who checked us in, carried our extremely heavy luggage all the way up to the third floor! It was so kind of him and we were incredibly grateful since we had traveled from so far. The staff was so fun, always inviting us down for wine and snacks that totally made us feel welcome. We had no idea there was breakfast each morning, and what a delight it was! It felt like we were living in this beautiful home and enjoying it with friends and family alike! Fantastic B&B. The location couldn't be more perfect. Very well located. Everything is walking distance. The house is located in one of the many squares surrounded by beautiful trees. At night time it was quiet and we slept great the two nights we stayed in. Every room is well decorated and it replicates the "old town" vibe. No, it does not smell like your grandmas house. The room was spacious, clean and comfy! For me the best part of the whole experience was the personal 1:1 with the people who works here as well as the special touch the owner gives. She will receive you for breakfast and the food was amazing. Never had such a great breakfast to start my day. Since we slept so well we doubt this place is haunted like people say. My husband and I just recently got married at the Hamilton-Turner Inn. It was amazing. The staff took great care of us. They made sure everything was according to our plans or the elopement. Quite pleased indeed with our stay!!! What an absolutely charming experience. I felt truly immersed in the core of Savannah history and culture. The aesthetic overall and especially the interior decor of the drawing room and breakfast room are just divine! I loved the feel of my room and the updated bathroom as well. Another thing they definitely got right was the darkness of the room and the great air conditioning. Most hotels place so many electronic items in the room that emit light that you could land an airplane in the pitch black of the night... Thanks for placing the thermostat by the entry door away from the eyes of the bed, and for keeping the room dark and cool like every guest wants it. The breakfast here is FABULOUS. Don't even think about trying to book yourself a breakfast or brunch out. You simply won't find better food. Absolutely so flavorful, delicious and unique. I also loved the general hospitality by all of the staff and the always refreshing drinks provided in the drawing room. I also very much appreciate this is a closed property and non-guests may not enter. A few easy fixes for improvement of experience: The Thomas Charlton room needs a new mattress (quite quite slanted to the middle, time to make the investment for new) The water does not get very hot in the shower, perhaps look into adjusting the max heat level on your water heater or replacing your water heater if it is already maxed out The body soap is quite bad, very stripping (and I don't believe I've ever mentioned a line of soap in a review but I literally had to go out and buy some body wash at a local pharmacy because of it). Arrived on Sunday for a 1 night stay on our way to Charleston. The Inn is gorgeous facing Lafayette Square which is beautiful. We were welcomed by the absolute friendliest hosts that showed us around. They were so kind they even put our bags in our room for us which was a blessing as there was no way I could have drug my huge suitcase up all those stairs. We stayed in room 404 (John Wesley room) which requires you to climb 3 flights of stairs so keep that in mind. The parlor is stunning and I loved what I thought was wallpaper but they told us it was hand painted. Absolutely stunning! Our room was ok but the baseboards were so covered in dust I immediately noticed. The corners were full of dust/dirt and windowsills were very dirty too with hair being in one of them. Definitely no cleaning because biggest shocker was raising the lid on the toilet to find not only a clump of hair but a large skid mark in toilet. Missing such a disgusting thing in the toilet tells me there was ZERO thorough cleaning. My sister and I were horrified. I did not say anything to our hosts as that would have been an awkward conversation I didn't care to have. The wall outlets didn't hold our phone chargers, they fell right out. We found only one plug that was tight enough to keep the charger in it but it was across from bed so not convenient for charging & using. Also there is no outlet at all in the bathroom so you won't be blowdrying your hair in there. You have to sit at the little vanity desk in room but again, plug is so far that dryer cord is too short and it was difficult to dry/style hair. I can't stress enough how friendly and welcoming the hosts were but I was so disappointed that basic cleaning wasn't done in our room so for that I would never stay again. read more

First off, let me say that the location is fantastic in Savannah. Central and lovely. Also, the gentleman who checked us in was friendly and quite funny. We stayed in the Johnny Mercer room, which is on the ground floor and right across from the check in desk. I asked if that would be a problem with the noise of other guests checking in and he assured me that only one party had not checked in and it should not be an issue. The room itself was nice looking, but small. It had some flaws: there was only a night table on one side of the bed, so we could not plug in phones on each side, which we used for a clock and a white noise machine (more on that later). The bed was a four poster bed, which is attractive but blocks the television. I wanted to rinse something out in the sink in the bathroom and the stopper could not go down because a mirror was blocking it and made that impossible. They tout a rain-like shower, but it was impractical for washing. When we returned from walking around Savannah and dinner and were ready to watch some tv, read and go to sleep, we noticed that there was quite a bit of noise from the kitchen, which (I had not noticed) was just beyond the check-in desk. They were preparing for the next day's breakfast and it was not only noisy but our room smelled like pancakes. It was hard to fall asleep. The next day a housekeeper asked me about our stay and I told her about my disappointing experience. She was very nice and said that she would share my views with the manager. A employee was at the desk at the time and ignored our conversation. Since I have been home I have contacted them twice but have gotten no answer. I would not stay here again, and certainly not in the Johnny Mercer room. read more

We stayed two nights here while my husband and I had a getaway weekend. The staff was very accommodating and everything was perfect! The breakfasts they served were delicious! The inn itself is gorgeous and conveniently located in the historical district. We were able to walk to just about everything g we wanted to see. St. John's cathedral is right across the street, and is also a stop on the trolley. We will be staying here every time we visit Savannah! Such an excellent, relaxing and refreshing B&B to stay when in Savannah. It is far enough from the crowds of River Street to provide continuous serenity while being close enough to walk there in a matter of minutes. Our host, Steven, simultaneously remained invisible and always available during our stay. This place was perfect for our stay. The reason it did not get five stars with such glowing reviews is for no other reason than y mattress didn't suit my back. The bed was too soft. The Hamilton-Turner Inn is a historic inn located on a beautiful quiet square in the heart of Savannah's Historic District. While we stayed only one night, I watched multiple trolley tours stop in front to mention this place. For an old grand Southern mansion, it's remarkably well maintained. We stayed in the Juliette Gordon Low room, located on the third floor. As others have mentioned, if you have heavy luggage or for other reasons don't want to take stairs, this might not be the best room. They appear to be multiple first floor and basement level rooms as well. But we found the Juliette Gordon Low room to be clean, cozy, and comfortable. They have wifi throughout the building and DirectTV in the room. Checking in on Yelp got us a bottle of Cava which was nothing special but still a much appreciated gesture. Other amenities include a large first floor dining room, where breakfast is served but which we also commandeered at dinner time to finish off our lunch from earlier in the day. They also have baked goods in the afternoon, a wine and appetizer social in the early evening, and Port at night. The people who took care of us at Hamilton-Turner Inn were outstanding. The guy who handled our check-in helped us find street parking around the corner and brought in some of our groceries from the car, before eventually escorting us to the room and bringing leftovers to the basement fridge. The innkeeper, who we met the next morning at breakfast, was also a very gracious host. My only issue was with the breakfast, and this may be a matter of personal preference. They have a breakfast entree each morning (which they post the afternoon before) and during our stay, it was a described as a "Southern-style Croque Madame." While other guests appeared to really enjoy it (one asked if he could lick the plate), I found it to be insanely salty. It's as if they poured salt on the ham, the eggs, and the Hollandaise sauce before putting it on a biscuit. I could only eat about a quarter of the dish before giving up. My g.f. was equally unable to tolerate more than I few bites. Thankfully they also offer homemade granola, yogurt, and fresh fruit so we sated ourselves on that before leaving. Overall, a great place to stay, quiet and comfortable, easily walkable to all of the major sites in historic Savannah. High marks for the service, particularly the guys working in the afternoon and evening. I'd stay there again, but maybe request a lot less salt in the breakfast. read more

Staying at the Hamilton-Turner Inn was SO wonderful!! We stayed in the Noble Jones suite and could not have been happier with our stay. The location is fabulous, close to the water front but nestled on Lafayette Square with tons of options for food, shopping and entertainment nearby. The inn itself is stunningly gorgeous, built in the 1800s and full of character and charm. Wood floors were nice with cushy throw rugs for comfort, huge king size canopy bed and a fancy, clean modern bathroom with a GIGANTIC shower, beautiful claw foot tub and double sinks. The room was clean, bright and honestly so beautiful. (Built in window shutters on 12'+ tall windows - so much character!) The staff is so friendly and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you want/need - you feel like a friend of the family visiting. The included breakfast was great, but there are no options so you get whatever they are serving that day. The little things were wonderful staying here - delicious cookies with turn down service, next day weather and local activities for the day on a card every evening, tons of towels and free water bottles. We will absolutely stay here again next time we are in Savannah. Highly recommended!!! read more

Clarm, eligance, beauty, The Hamilton Turner has it all. Such a wonderful place. I stayed in the guest house. My room was upstairs. It was spacious and comfortable. The guest house has 3 bedrooms. I think all were occupied, but I never heard the other guest. It was if I had the house all to myself. The guesthouse has a sitting room that's quite comfortable. There are plenty magazines and games to keep you entertained. The Hamilton Turners breakfast was outstanding. I'm a breakfast person and quite picky. These folks know how to make a good breakfast. There's an early evening wine reception with yummy treats. The B&B has a lovely patio where you can sit and relax if for some reason you don't want to sit in the parlor which boasts an outstanding hand fresco painted that covers the entire room. The management was super friendly. I checked in very early and they held my bags with no problems. The manager told me about the history of the house and was quite welcoming. This is an historic home. It was the first in Savannah to have electricity, because of that it's on several of the city tours. Housekeeping let me into several empty rooms. Each were decorated differently and all were nice. One tip, Savannah is not a town big on cabs or uber. I missed my plane because it took over an hour to get a cab service to answer the phone. Schedule your return airport trip early. read more

I almost rated this review 3 stars but I didn't because I don't want to rate it on my lack of liking the place. The Inn itself deserves more but I personally wouldn't go back. I'm a bit jaded since visiting Mast Farm Inn and this place was a little too stuffy for my liking. With gold inlay dishes and very prim and proper everything, I just couldn't get comfortable. I like a more laid back environment where I feel like family. All that being said, the spaces and the house itself is beyond belief. It's a great throwback to yesteryear and a true example of what it must have been like to be a wealthy landowner in Savannah GA. read more

We stayed in the John Habersham room for 1 night. Do not stay in this room. It smells like feet or a wet dog in area right outside the bathroom. I have to hold my breath every time I walk by. For the price we pay and being ranked #1 on Tripadvisor, I did not expect this. So the stars goes down Bc of that. I do like the private door in and out from the garden/basement area. Great service. Great location. But we are here to sleep. So the room has to worth the $$$ we spent. I may come back but probably choose a different room and hope to not get the same stinky experience. read more

Beautiful place and great location but....The A/C didn't work correctly both nights even after I told the person at the desk. There was a puddle of water in the bathroom floor after each shower due to the glass not going down to the tile. The sheets were so worn they had pilled. We could hear every conversation from the Eli Whitney room (we were in the Habersham room) Our room wasn't ready when we checked in. So the gentleman took my number and said he'd call when it was ready. He never contacted us. During breakfast on Monday the lady serving referred to my wife as "not an egg girl" because she didn't care for her Eggs Benedict runny. And she dissed the statement of us going to Tybee Island for the day. Be advised the Habersham room is below ground so there is no view. read more

Hamilton-Turner Inn is a great B&B in downtown Savannah. The rooms are perfect B&B rooms, and if you are lucky Mr. Foo the resident kitty cat will stop by. All the rooms are well done, and the setting is perfect for the area. There is no elevator, so if you need one this is not the place for you (check out the President's Quarters). If you can afford this B&B this is absolutely the place to stay when you come to Savannah...and you should absolutely come to Savannah. The B&B is quiet. The inn is historic. It's the first home in Savannah to have electricity. Breakfast is served every morning on the first floor, and it's not a menu but something original every morning. There is no parking, but you don't really need a car in Savannah. There's only two places I would stay in Savannah and this is one of them. read more

If you are looking for a 4 star B&B experience, this is it. We stayed on the third floor and had a view of the fountain in Lafayette Square out one window and St. John's out the other. There were chocolates and champagne in the room when we arrived. I went with friends, but this was still a nice touch. It was very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was nothing short of impressive and the Inn keepers were very attentive. One our second night, we went on a pub crawl so that third morning we went to breakfast in our pjs and the lavish robes they provided. I felt like a riff raff but the staff welcomed us and was quick to offer extra coffee ;) They gave recommendations on what to see and offered to make arrangements for us. This place made our trip to Savannah so special. For one the location is perfect for anything you want to do in the Historic district. The attention to detail and the accommodation of the staff absolutely exceeded my expectations. We felt like queens in our beautiful room and it seems like there was always some sort of complimentary snack, coffee or glass of wine served in the parlor. The breakfast was so delicious. There was a breakfast bar filled with fruit, yogurt and granola. Then on top of that every morning they served a hot breakfast that changed daily (The sausage casserole will knock your socks off) I would absolutely stay here again, and wished we would have stayed a few extra days! read more

This was our third stay at Hamilton-Turner Inn and the best yet! Our check in was smooth as always. They are so warm and welcoming, and so are the warm cookies and other treats to start off the stay. Our room this time was a big wow! The furnishings were lovely, and the light streaming in the windows off the square was magical. The super large bathroom was so lovely with a beautiful inviting separate tub that we made sure to take advantage of. The fire was waiting for us when we returned from dinner. One of the best parts of staying at the H/T Inn is the delicious homemade breakfast that is served in the lovely dining room - filled with sunlight and antiques. The food is amazing and always different. The scones are amazing, as is the yogurt and homemade granola...not to mention the frittata we had this time. The location is an easy walk to all the fun things we like to do in Savannah. We will make it our annual stop from Florida to Delaware. read more

Just a wonderful b & b. From check-in to checkout, everything was very well done. Breakfast were outstanding, afternoon wine/cheese hour is a must and don't miss the port after a nice dinner before retiring for the evening. Staff did a wonderful job answering our questions, needs etc. Location is close enough for easy walk to City Market and numerous restaurants. Parking can be an issue during weekdays but never had to park far from Inn. read more

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in January and had a great stay. Susan, Will, and Abby were immensely helpful in suggesting places to eat and tours to take and made a number of reservations for us. It's clear the staff is as willing to chat with you as much or as little as you want. When we checked in, we were upgraded (free of charge) to a bigger room. It was spacious and the bed was super comfortable with the most indulgent sheets I've ever had the pleasure to sleep in! Before a yummy breakfast each morning (the stuffed French toast was incredible) coffee and newspapers were available in the living room. In the afternoon sweet tea and refreshments were waiting for us when we got back from several hours of strolling the historic district. Prior to dinner each night, hors d'oeuvres and wine were waiting for guests to enjoy. In terms of location, the Inn is on one of the most lovely of all the squares, right next to St. John's Cathedral and across the way from the Andrew Low House - it's an easy walk to River Street and all the action and I'm really happy we stayed here and not along the more well know Forsythe Park which is bounded by busy streets. I've stayed at a number of B&Bs through the years and this one is definitely among my favorites. When (not if) we go back to Savannah, we'd definitely stay here again. read more

This inn is an absolutely wonderful place to stay in Savannah. The staff is beyond courteous, from check-in to check-out. Did I mention the delicious full breakfast? The cleanliness? What about the charm? Or that it's within walking distance of just about everything (or very short Uber/taxi ride, if you prefer).
