With all the 5-start reviews, I left disappointed. Food was so-so and very pricey for a fast-casual option. I paid $30 for a plate, including gratuity (because I'm not a jerk). I was thrown off by the service. I asked the cashier about whether certain ingredients were in a dish, and she had no idea. She tried to ask someone in the kitchen, and still no info was provided. Not a very welcoming atmosphere, at least not to me. I'm not opposed to paying more for quality food, but with all the good Mediterranean/Middle Eastern options in town, I'd take my $30 elsewhere. read more

I love a good Mediterranean bowl...soooo happy I came across this find. They have been open for a few months and have it together quite well. The food quality was top notch. The chicken schnitzel was raved about by other reviewers so I tried it. It was the perfect temperature and texture just lightly breaded with sesame seeds throughout. It was not oily at all and just the right amount of flavor, but I prefer spicy and got some sauces, get it for your dipping pleasure. The pita bread was nice and chewy, the rice was any my favorite as it was mushier than my liking. Nice friendly staff and they give good portions. DROOLing over here -- this was so DELICIOUS. We both had steak/beef shawarma in a pita with all the toppings (10+ options of different salads and sauces). The sauces on top are tahini and amba. As my fiancée said, "it gets better with every bite" as all the flavors sink in. While you pay a bit more, it is for quality of ingredients that you can taste and portions are very generous! People are very friendly and there is indoor and outdoor seating for casual dining. Highly recommend! read more

Absolutely amazing!! I've been to Israel, and it is extremely difficult to find a pita shop that gives the same experience. This is perhaps the number one shop I have been too since my visit to Israel. The food is top quality, the staff are very kind and some speak Hebrew, and the ambience is very lively with great conversations with people. It feels just like a pita shop in Israel. This is easily the best and most authentic Israeli food since I was last in Jerusalem. And just like in Israel, you order your protein, you run it through the garden, picking whatever cabbage, or Israeli salad or onions or pickles that you may want, maybe add some of their interesting Israeli kimchi or grilled eggplant into it and then you devour it. We have tried their beef asado plate, schwarma plate, Jerusalem combo plate. The portions are huge and you can easily share one plate between two people. The meats are all so well seasoned, flavorful, and juicy. It comes with fluffy fresh pita bread and an assortment of fresh veggies like cabbage, cucumber/tomato salad, red onions, the creamiest hummus, tahini,etc. They also provide marinated olives, pepperoncinis, pickled veggies on the side to complement your meal. Each bite is so satisfying and all the ingredients are super fresh! The quality is bar none and you won't feel too heavy or greasy after finishing your meal. Some of the best Middle Eastern food I've ever had, truly! The chicken thighs were cooked with a good amount of onions and peppers plus great spices. The hummus was creamy. The fried eggplant was my favorite side - thin and crispy without being overly oily. I didn't get a photo of the pita, but it was soft, thick, and pillowy (I prefer this style to the thinner flatbread type pita). Overall a delicious meal, prepared with care, well worth the $25 price point. I could've saved at least a third of the meal for future leftovers, but instead I finished most of it because it was that good! I've been coming to Hamitbach for several years, and their pitas are consistently fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. This place definitely deserves a five-star review. The only small downside (which doesn't affect my rating) was one employee who seemed completely distracted while making my sandwich. He was staring out the window at female customers and appeared totally unfocused -- like he'd never seen a woman before. He only looked at me once or twice to ask what I wanted, and it felt like I was interrupting his daydreaming. That said, I've never seen this employee before, so I assume he's new. Was in this shopping center the other day and saw this place not knowing what it was and walked outside of the door to check out the menu and what it was all about. This time I came specially because this place is that good. Every time I'm driving in the area, I always try to keep my hunger and stop by here. It wasn't very busy at the time, but they explained the whole menu since we hadn't been there. Then I asked them about wheat, soy, and egg allergies. I hadn't seen the vegan sign (on most things), but you can't always trust those in some restaurants. (They do have dairy in some things as shown.) The cook came up to take the order to try to answer any allergy questions. He was texting either his boss or the owner to insure he was correct about the ingredients. There is NO egg in the restaurant!!! Do you know how rare that is? This is an excellent place for food allergies! He said the falafel was in a separate fryer and shouldn't have wheat either. I didn't have a reaction, but I am on an injection that would make them less so. If you have a severe wheat allergy, you should still double check. They did use soybean oil in the rice, and possibly the chicken (idr), but that is okay for me. No soybean protein otherwise in what I ordered. I ordered a rice bowl with chicken shawarma. I got the garlic sauce, tatziki, and cilantro sauce (on the side). Toppings were as follows: banana peppers, kalamata olives, parsley mix, onions, lettuce, tomato. Feta is +.50, and I had some at home so I just added my own since it was take out. I would totally recommend this combo to anyone! It was so delicious. Initially I didn't like the cilantro tahini sauce on it's own, but when I dipped some rice/chicken in it--chefs kiss! The cilantro tahini adds a rich depth to the flavor. I also was not overly impressed with a chicken bite on it's own, but WITH all of the other goodies, it was excellent. The ingredients are fresh, minimally processed food. The basmati rice looked like authentic middle eastern rice that I could get from a friend's house, with a true turmeric hue. The one thing I didn't like was the pickled turnips. Luckily he put them on the side for me to try. They tasted like a very mild beet and I'm not a beet fan. They were very long slices like a french fry and if you enjoy earthy turnip/beat flavors then I would definitely suggest you get them! I also ordered a side of falafel. I can't have the pita, so he gave me two little things of tzatziki instead. I found I only needed one after all. The falafel is really good. It is less spiced than some I've had, but the texture was so fluffy and fresh tasting. It reminded me of the very first falafel I had, in Italy of all places. I was kind of comparing this to Kebab Shop in my head because that was always our go to "fast food", but the location in Mission Valley was so terrible that I haven't been back. It doesn't taste anything like that place because this place uses real ingredients and they don't taste pre-made or like a corporation that's trying to get the cheapest, most salty tastes for Americans. I would say the falafel are better at Tahini because they are fluffier, bigger, and not hard balls. IIRC there are a bit more spices and salt in the KS ones. I would prefer to get them here from now on, though I'm not sure if the price is right if you don't get the pita, but maybe Tahini can work on a GF option in the future. TLDR: Great for food allergies; fresh, real ingredients; Mediterranean fusion; make sure you get the parsley mix as a topping. It has onions and a pomegranate molasses which is delicious. We will definitely be back. The inside is very nice and they have a huge outdoor seating section too. We will try eating in next time.

The only reason I'm leaving 3 stars is because of my last experience. I stopped by about 10 minutes before closing to grab a bottle of water and one of the pre-made meals they already had ready. Before walking in, I even asked if they were still open. The guy said yes, but from the way he talked and acted, it really felt like I wasn't welcome there. He immediately asked if I was paying with a card, and the whole interaction just felt off. I don't usually leave reviews like this because, at the end of the day, it's not a huge deal and I'll probably still come back. I just wanted some food for work the next day and a bottle of water. It was just one of those moments where better customer service would've made all the difference. Shit happens.
