The area we live in in Michigan has lots of amazing middle eastern restaurants so we feel qualified to review the cuisine. I've been here a few times before, and the food is actually pretty good. It's a little pricey, but I knew that already and that's why I keep coming back. The only reason I'm leaving 3 stars is because of my last experience. I stopped by about 10 minutes before closing to grab a bottle of water and one of the pre-made meals they already had ready. Before walking in, I even asked if they were still open. The guy said yes, but from the way he talked and acted, it really felt like I wasn't welcome there. He immediately asked if I was paying with a card, and the whole interaction just felt off. I don't usually leave reviews like this because, at the end of the day, it's not a huge deal and I'll probably still come back. I just wanted some food for work the next day and a bottle of water. I had the falafel platter with hummus, grape leaves, and tabouli. The falafel were the best I have ever had. Crisp on the outside and light and tasty on the inside. The hummus was bland, adding salt and pepper helped. I was disappointed that tahini wasn't included with the falafel, there is an option to add it. The beet salad with feta was also very good. Ground Beef Kabob Plate! One of my favorite things to order here. The pita tastes super fresh, and the veggies and side salad hit every time. And let me tell you about the beef kabobs the meat is packed with flavor, juicy, well-seasoned, and always cooked perfectly. This was a Door Dash experience. What I can tell of the service at Sahara is it is quickly prepared and thoughtfully plated. My items were received in just under 30 minutes. The gyros was very thinly sliced and piled high. Tender, warm and flavorful. The accompanying pita also warm with good heft, great for a gyros wrap. The sauce was a delight! I'd liken it more to a very soft jajeek than tzatziki, incredibly flavorful. Best basmati rice I've ever eaten. Warm, chickeny, and just slightly chewy in texture. Sour pickled veggies added a nice balance. And last, the carrot cake. This version has a very distinct ginger spice and tart cream cheese frosting. This place is really good. The food was fresh. Good portion sizes! But kind of pricey. They do have specials that I saw on the large glass doors passing by. Place is semi crammed, small. So not much seating available outside or to stand inside when you await your order or when you order. The food spot is located inside of the store with the rest of the place. So if it's busy in there for the other part of the store or for them it makes it hard to figure out who is awaiting to order? Or who has already ordered? There isn't any signage inside or directional advertisement available. They also have an area where you can purchase meal preps. That's in the way if were being honest. We always go to Sahara on Jamacha and really surprised they have this on in North Park! I love it because it's a restaurant and convenience store in one (my pov!). The ladies were so helpful and kind. The food we ordered were fresh and tasted so good. My favorite is the Baba Ghanoush! We ate Al fresco and it was such the perfect lunch with my family. This is a great takeout spot. Their gyro is probably my favorite that I've had in San Diego. I definitely prefer it on the pita, but the wrap is good too. Meat wasn't dry/overcooked and all the veggies tasted fresh. They also really pack a lot in there and I love that they don't skimp on the tzatziki sauce. What a wonderful experience we had here! Our ladies group of four were intending to eat next door but it was inexplicably closed so we defaulted here. Glad we did!! I came for the Tabouli, at a mere $3.00 per serving; I was curious, Tabouli normally goes for ten times that much. Neither Alladin or Ali Baba make a better Tabouli or Baba Ghanoush than Sahara currently does. Surprisingly so since they are not Lebanaese. The Lebanese of course are known throughout the Arab world as the top-of-the-line best cuisine of them all, with Morroco coming in at a distant second. Unfortunately somewhat difficult parking but not impossible. Friendly staff, and very clean. The ingredients are fresh, outdoor seating ONLY. I look forward to returning. They have a wide extensive menu and the stuffed grape leaves are the best I've had in many months. Ive tried many Mediterranean places and Sahara on Adams is by far one of the best. If you want authentic, good portions, flavorful this place is a must try! I love that even though it's inside of a liquor store you can tell the owner keeps this place really CLEAN. The floors, counter, and how products are placed on the shelves - the staff does a great job with presentation. They offer a variety of drinks, snacks, the desserts are also delicious too! Every-time I order I love that they have the carrot cake, blueberry cheesecake, and this divine chocolate mouse cake. I love to order their beef kabob and chicken bowls with their beets salad! The beets salad is also yummy!!! Side note, the 4 star review from Katherine C - a lot of your reviews that you dont give 5 stars seem like its a personal problem on your end. The PRICE for what they have here is not overpriced at all. You can go to Luna Grill or Kabob shop and their prices are $5-10 more small portions too and not authentic. Food here is reasonably priced and yummy. I normally stick to the bowls at Sahara's. I've had the chicken tikka bowl before and the cream chop bowl today. I think I do prefer the chicken tikka as it's slightly healthier, but the cream chop is really good too if you like fried cutlet. It comes with rice, salad, and a few slices of pita. I've also had the Sahara salad in the past, and it's really good as well. This location is inside of a convenience/liquor store, so there's no seating available inside, but there are a few small tables outside. The market has a really wide selection of beverages and candy. We grabbed 2 La Croix from the fridge to enjoy with our meal. read more

Sahara has always been a local favorite in Rancho San Diego. I am certain they will be a local favorite in Normal Heights with their delicious eats and friendly customer service. They have several great lunch specials, including the chicken tika wrap I purchased for $8.95, plus $2.95 for a side of hummus and sliced pita bread. The marinaded chicken tika is grilled over an open flame, as a result, you not only get the flavor from the delicious marinade but the flame grill itself. In addition to the great flavor, the chicken was very tender, and the garlic aioli sauce was outstanding with the chicken and lettuce and tomatoes. That being said, I did feel that the wrap needed more ingredients inside. It was very loose. Some yellow basmatic rice inside would of been very nice. They offer food made to order and refrigerated ready meals to go as well. For example, salads, wraps, sandwiches, bowls, and desserts. They are located inside of Height's Market, but do not let that fool you, because they are a full blown restaurant with outside seating. Service is very good. read more

We had heard from many people that this spot was amazing. I mean who doesn't want to go to an unassuming amazing hole in the wall spot that's amazing? Also I don't think I've ever had Mediterranean food that wasn't at least good. I'm super not picky especially about this kind of food. I never write reviews But wow, we paid 30$ each with tip for a plate of the driest most bland food ever. Normally you get all these sides at places like this that might make up for some dry meat or whatever, but no. Just a modest portion of food that was a chore to get into your stomach, but you have to cuz you just paid 30$ for it. I was starving and so confident this place would be good when I ordered, but it was literally one of the worst experiences I've had eating out in years.
