Brother Ezekiel was our host and he was so kind. I was a little concerned that once we arrived we might be expected to follow some house rules or curfews, but that worry was unnecessary. Once we checked in we were free to come and go as we pleased and our apartment had a private entrance. Our breakfast was quietly delivered by the monks and placed on a table at the entrance to the apartment. Aside from check-in, we didn't see or hear the monks at all until our last day when we decided to attend one of the prayer sessions. Hearing the monks chant was a treat. The breakfasts were so generous! One morning we shared a huge platter of sliced fruit, blueberry pancakes, sausage (vegetarian for my friend, regular for me), yogurt, eggs, coffee and orange juice. Don't even get me started on the next day's french toast! We didn't have internet in our room, but our iphones worked just fine and Bridgeport coffee was just down the street (great chai!) and they have WiFi. There is a Buddhist temple next door and we loved leaving the monastery only to see the prayer flags and catch the light scent of incense as we walked to catch a ride to our event. We stayed in the Loft apartment: $165 per night, 3 bedrooms (two full and one twin), a breakfast nook, a kitchenette, nice bathroom with shower and a sitting area with a couch and three chairs. It was lovely-parking and breakfast included. The rooms have alarm clocks and there is a desk for setting up your computer if you need to get some work done. My understanding is that there is another apartment that is the same price, but has two bedrooms, a pull out sofa and a full kitchen stocked with supplies to make your very own breakfast if you would like and it also has free parking. The neighborhood is modest, but nice and we (two women) felt safe and comfortable wandering home late at night. Public transportation is close, but we caught cabs on Halsted in the morning because we were crunched for time. This place is such treasure...it is simple, yet nice and even though we are not religious we loved the idea that were were helping to support the monastery. Again, Brother Ezekiel was as gracious as one would expect a monk and an innkeeper to be. We will be back together, with family, solo or with other friends. This is a steal of a deal. We've joked that I shouldn't write this for fear that the secret will get out! :)

The neighborhood that it's in is pretty shady as well. If you end up coming back late you have to enter in through the ally gate and back door of the place. It ends up being really creepy because it is definitely way too quiet. The electricity also all runs on one circuit and because it's old if you have too many things i.e. a hair dryer and tv on, the entire circuit ends up shutting off and you have to call down to have the, turn it back on. The windows of the mayor suit, where me and my friends stayed at, had removable cardboard in the places where the air conditioning doesn't cover up. When talking to the owner about canceling the reservation, he became defensive and rude and raised his voice to me and my friends. If you still decide to consider this place make sure to read the contract VERY CAREFULLY. it's literally written down saying that prices can change without notice. Overall it was the worst experience of my life. Definitely not staying here again

The "shuttle" that's offered is just a beat up van with dead flies in the cup holder and dirty seats. The neighborhood around the Bridgeport Bed and Breakfast is really sketchy. I stayed there with a couple of friends in the "Mayor Suite." Occupants are told to go in and out through the rusted back gate (given a key) or even through the kitchen. At night, it definitely gets too quiet and there are paintings or pictures of mayors and presidents staring at you. The windows are covered up with cardboard for the spaces that the air conditioner doesn't fully cover. Also, everything is on one circuit so the power goes out when you use a hair dryer or turn on the TV. No wi-fi READ CAREFULLY ABOUT THIS PLACE BEFORE MAKING RESERVATIONS!!! The website actually says "PRICES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTIFICATION." My sister made the reservation and the owner was rude when I wanted to discuss the room. Electricity is a basic necessity, especially since we paid 400$ per night (2 nights reserved) and the power went out several times. We had made reservations and paid for the hotel two weeks before arriving, however the cancellation policy is that we cancel 30 days prior to arrival. The owner did not see anything wrong with this cancellation policy and raised his voice when we made proper complaints about our accommodations. Needless to say, one of the most over priced and horrible experiences I've ever had. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO COME HERE.

The food was brunch with frittata, French toast, bacon, sausage, roasted vegetables, butternut squash and fresh fruit. The food looked delicious. The butternut squash was my favorite. Now for the downside, my bf and I were a few of the last people to get our first plate. When we were getting food, most of the trays were almost empty and they didn't have enough food. It's a buffet and shouldn't there be enough food for all. My bf didn't get the frittata or bacon. Usually there's more than enough food and then some. People asked and they weren't making more. A friend wanted more sausage links for his son and they had to make a couple links. Disappointed because usually there should be second helping and at least enough for first helping. So I ended up with a stomach ache and not feeling well. I hadn't left yet. I rushed home. Found out there were a couple more people had the same feeling after leaving. We were looking to try the Sunday buffet. I don't think I will now.

The combo I got also came with a pretty good omelete, sausage links and French toast. You can swap out the tots for sweet potato fries to feel more healthy or just eat the fruit cup and call it a day. Not one of those bougee overprice brunch spots, an actual brunch spot. Definitely want to return some time.

By the time I arrived in the evening ....my uber was unable to get me to the hotel so I had to get out and walk with my luggage for about 3 miles where thousands of game goers were walking in the opposite direction. When I checked in I asked about the game and the girl told me she forgot about the game. Yet later in the conversation she divulged that some guests there were staying to attend the game. I then asked if there was any food and she said no but I could order delivery. I asked how if the roads were closed. She said oh yeah that's right. So now I had to go back and out on foot and walk to find something to eat. She asked me about what time I wanted breakfast the next day. I asked why I couldn't just come down when I was ready. She said that I had to tell the chef what time I wanted food so it would be ready. I said can I call you and let you know whenever I get to my room? She said yes. We walked to my room up the stairs. She made me carry my luggage up the stairs after walking 3 miles to get there and I later found out they had a small elevator for luggage. After I got settled in my room I called down to tell her about breakfast. There was no answer. I tried 4 times. I finally went down and learned they don't staff the place after the last guest checks in so no matter what you need you are SOL because there's no one to help you. Before bed I wanted to take a shower. I ran my water when suddenly I noticed there was not a single towel in my room. I tore the room apart looking all over and there was nothing there. So not only could I not shower before bed. I couldn't shower in the morning either because they still weren't staffing the area before I needed to leave. Lastly - after the game let out - the game attendees made their way to the street the hotel is on to continue the partying. It was so loud right outside my window I couldn't sleep. After all of this I decided to check out the next day even though I had already prepaid a second night and it's not refundable. There wasn't a key drop to be found so I had to leave my key on a desk in the lobby with a note I was checking out which by the way noticed on the same desk was a Manila folder sitting there with my name on it. It was my personal information just out there for anyone to see. I expected a call the next day from someone to ask why I left and possibly even an attempt to service recover assuming they care about their reputation or the guests experience. Alas I never got the call. They certainly accepted my money and kept what was not theirs because they gave horrible service the entire stay. I would not recommend this site for your visiting needs. There's Just too many issues here for the amount of money they charge. Also in my room the bed was really far from the tv and the tv is really small.

You'll want to ask the front desk to detach the shampoo and body wash bottles from the wall, as they are too far away from the seat. The beds are firm yet welcoming and restful, if a bit tall. The service is extremely friendly, especially at the front desk. You are right across the street from Grant Park and its a quick walk to Buckingham Fountain. Certain rooms have park views and its gorgeous in the summer. If you like Blues, Buddy Guy's Legends is two short blocks away. However it isn't all champagne and caviar. The hotel doesn't have a bar, and only one restaurant, specializing in tapas. This area of Chicago is a bit of a culinary desert, with underwhelming options in the nearby hotels and Wabash and State Streets. If you are visiting for cuisine, you'll want to fire up your taxi apps or familiarize yourself with the Red Line. Final Note: its also a great venue for a wedding. We were married here in 2011, and the Art Hall and Ballroom (The Untouchables, IYKYK) will wow your guests with an elegant service and reception immediately following.

It's a very classic and lovely hotel that has all the charm of Chicago and is in a great spot near a lot of the spots downtown that you want to visit while also being just far enough to be out of the noise and activity of the down-downtown. The downsides of this hotel were why I knocked off a couple stars. I almost went for two stars but gave them a bit of the benefit of the doubt on it. First is that we got a room with "club level" access. It turns out that not only is the club just a downstairs, windowless, meeting room feeling place with two TVs on, but the "snack" in the afternoon was just some chips and sodas in the fridge. Maybe worth $3 at the corner market. Second issue with it was that the club was closed on Saturday and Sunday, which was nearly half our trip. As compensation we got 1500 points a day, big deal. I definitely felt cheated on that. I didn't get photos, but when we got to the room there were horrifyingly huge spiders, about five of them, who had made rather large webs outside the window. Thankfully none of them could get it, but it did speak to the cleaning, or lack there of, to the outside of the windows. The bathroom was a large disappointment. It was clean and relatively well maintained, but the towels were ones that I'd have demoted at my house to something less than cleaning the cars. Holes and frayed edges abounded. The shower also had a rain-only head, which looks fancy but is completely impractical for getting clean. The staff was fantastic, always greeting us and very outgoing. We went to the restaurant and had a lovely meal one of the nights we were there. The bar, which was part of the restaurant, was very modern and austere which didn't really go with the flow of the rest of the hotel and lobby unfortunately, so we went next door to one of the other historic hotels to get more of an "Old Chicago" hotel bar feel. Overall, somewhere between 2 and 3 stars is where this sits.
