Great atmosphere. Fresh flowers, candles and linens.

Celebrated my daughter's birthday at Gospel Brunch. Amazing service, beautiful atmosphere, fun live gospel music and beyond amazing food. Portions were fabulous! My group included a toddler and we all had an outstanding time. Can't wait to go again!

Sunday brunch! No words to describe(Fantastic)will be back on September 13! September 12, 2020, patio seating almost dark, everything was so damn GOOD! Owner Dave and staff friendliest people you will ever meet, the soda fountain scene from "Hoodlum" was filmed at this very location. And you know the food is good when other patrons suggesting things you should try, one gentlemen with some of thee most beautiful ribs I've seen in a while(Unfortunately I don't eat pork)but the smell and the meet falling of the bone(Yes I was watching, sue me!)almost made me lose my religion! But I'm sorry to say, "We will be back Sunday" I pretty sure we are going to eventually have tried everything on the menu! See you Sunday!

Two Steak Sandwiches at the Polo Inn in Bridgeport

Sheila and I dined at the Polo Inn a few weeks ago after driving by several times wishing it was the right occasion. We both had the steak sandwich. I had mine with a side salad and she had french fries. The sandwich was pretty good overall and I really enjoyed the salad as well. I picked at her fries which I also enjoyed. The meat had good taste and I liked that they add mozzarella cheese. The steak could be trimmed better as we each had a few bites that were chewy. Overall, we loved the idea of the Polo Inn, their story, the decor including the Mayor Daley picture, and the food. We should be back.

Neighborhood stalwart, this venerable family operation is decorated with historic Chicago memorabilia. The big picture of "The Boss," makes me a little nostalgic for entertaining local government corruption. Last time I was here I tried explaining to a couple of "adults" that long before Al Gore had an election stolen from him by voting irregularities, Richard Nixon was robbed by Chicago voter fraud. Of course they had never heard of NIxon, Gore or Daley because young Americans don't believe in history. Okay, well maybe you're not interested in history either. Then come here for the gnocchi, it's delicious. I like the pork chops too, and leave room for fresh baked cookies for dessert. Excellent service, same challenges in parking anywhere else in this neighborhood.

I highly recommend The Polo Inn. The Gospel Brunch on Sunday is the best! I had to try the Crème Brûlée French Toast. It was absolutely delicious and unique. The fig vodka syrup really is SO tasty, but not overpowering. Each entree has its own spin on standards. The owner & chef David Samber has outdone himself with this wonderful venue and menu.

The neighborhood that it's in is pretty shady as well. If you end up coming back late you have to enter in through the ally gate and back door of the place. It ends up being really creepy because it is definitely way too quiet. The electricity also all runs on one circuit and because it's old if you have too many things i.e. a hair dryer and tv on, the entire circuit ends up shutting off and you have to call down to have the, turn it back on. The windows of the mayor suit, where me and my friends stayed at, had removable cardboard in the places where the air conditioning doesn't cover up. When talking to the owner about canceling the reservation, he became defensive and rude and raised his voice to me and my friends. If you still decide to consider this place make sure to read the contract VERY CAREFULLY. it's literally written down saying that prices can change without notice. Overall it was the worst experience of my life. Definitely not staying here again

The "shuttle" that's offered is just a beat up van with dead flies in the cup holder and dirty seats. The neighborhood around the Bridgeport Bed and Breakfast is really sketchy. I stayed there with a couple of friends in the "Mayor Suite." Occupants are told to go in and out through the rusted back gate (given a key) or even through the kitchen. At night, it definitely gets too quiet and there are paintings or pictures of mayors and presidents staring at you. The windows are covered up with cardboard for the spaces that the air conditioner doesn't fully cover. Also, everything is on one circuit so the power goes out when you use a hair dryer or turn on the TV. No wi-fi READ CAREFULLY ABOUT THIS PLACE BEFORE MAKING RESERVATIONS!!! The website actually says "PRICES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTIFICATION." My sister made the reservation and the owner was rude when I wanted to discuss the room. Electricity is a basic necessity, especially since we paid 400$ per night (2 nights reserved) and the power went out several times. We had made reservations and paid for the hotel two weeks before arriving, however the cancellation policy is that we cancel 30 days prior to arrival. The owner did not see anything wrong with this cancellation policy and raised his voice when we made proper complaints about our accommodations. Needless to say, one of the most over priced and horrible experiences I've ever had. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO COME HERE.

Brother Ezekiel was our host and he was so kind. I was a little concerned that once we arrived we might be expected to follow some house rules or curfews, but that worry was unnecessary. Once we checked in we were free to come and go as we pleased and our apartment had a private entrance. Our breakfast was quietly delivered by the monks and placed on a table at the entrance to the apartment. Aside from check-in, we didn't see or hear the monks at all until our last day when we decided to attend one of the prayer sessions. Hearing the monks chant was a treat. The breakfasts were so generous! One morning we shared a huge platter of sliced fruit, blueberry pancakes, sausage (vegetarian for my friend, regular for me), yogurt, eggs, coffee and orange juice. Don't even get me started on the next day's french toast! We didn't have internet in our room, but our iphones worked just fine and Bridgeport coffee was just down the street (great chai!) and they have WiFi. There is a Buddhist temple next door and we loved leaving the monastery only to see the prayer flags and catch the light scent of incense as we walked to catch a ride to our event. We stayed in the Loft apartment: $165 per night, 3 bedrooms (two full and one twin), a breakfast nook, a kitchenette, nice bathroom with shower and a sitting area with a couch and three chairs. It was lovely-parking and breakfast included. The rooms have alarm clocks and there is a desk for setting up your computer if you need to get some work done. My understanding is that there is another apartment that is the same price, but has two bedrooms, a pull out sofa and a full kitchen stocked with supplies to make your very own breakfast if you would like and it also has free parking. The neighborhood is modest, but nice and we (two women) felt safe and comfortable wandering home late at night. Public transportation is close, but we caught cabs on Halsted in the morning because we were crunched for time. This place is such treasure...it is simple, yet nice and even though we are not religious we loved the idea that were were helping to support the monastery. Again, Brother Ezekiel was as gracious as one would expect a monk and an innkeeper to be. We will be back together, with family, solo or with other friends. This is a steal of a deal. We've joked that I shouldn't write this for fear that the secret will get out! :)

By the time I arrived in the evening ....my uber was unable to get me to the hotel so I had to get out and walk with my luggage for about 3 miles where thousands of game goers were walking in the opposite direction. When I checked in I asked about the game and the girl told me she forgot about the game. Yet later in the conversation she divulged that some guests there were staying to attend the game. I then asked if there was any food and she said no but I could order delivery. I asked how if the roads were closed. She said oh yeah that's right. So now I had to go back and out on foot and walk to find something to eat. She asked me about what time I wanted breakfast the next day. I asked why I couldn't just come down when I was ready. She said that I had to tell the chef what time I wanted food so it would be ready. I said can I call you and let you know whenever I get to my room? She said yes. We walked to my room up the stairs. She made me carry my luggage up the stairs after walking 3 miles to get there and I later found out they had a small elevator for luggage. After I got settled in my room I called down to tell her about breakfast. There was no answer. I tried 4 times. I finally went down and learned they don't staff the place after the last guest checks in so no matter what you need you are SOL because there's no one to help you. Before bed I wanted to take a shower. I ran my water when suddenly I noticed there was not a single towel in my room. I tore the room apart looking all over and there was nothing there. So not only could I not shower before bed. I couldn't shower in the morning either because they still weren't staffing the area before I needed to leave. Lastly - after the game let out - the game attendees made their way to the street the hotel is on to continue the partying. It was so loud right outside my window I couldn't sleep. After all of this I decided to check out the next day even though I had already prepaid a second night and it's not refundable. There wasn't a key drop to be found so I had to leave my key on a desk in the lobby with a note I was checking out which by the way noticed on the same desk was a Manila folder sitting there with my name on it. It was my personal information just out there for anyone to see. I expected a call the next day from someone to ask why I left and possibly even an attempt to service recover assuming they care about their reputation or the guests experience. Alas I never got the call. They certainly accepted my money and kept what was not theirs because they gave horrible service the entire stay. I would not recommend this site for your visiting needs. There's Just too many issues here for the amount of money they charge. Also in my room the bed was really far from the tv and the tv is really small.
