Found this on Expedia and was very cheap. Free parking was a plus. If I had it to do over again I would have just spent the extra money and stayed closer to downtown. The area was decent and I never felt like my family it I were ever in danger. Lots of homeless people coming in the side door and using the bathroom and helping themselves to breakfast though lol. One thing I did think was weird was the 2nd elevator that went down to the parking garage directly and a room key wasn't needed until after 9pm to use it. Anyone off the street could have come right up in the building. Weird... The property was overall kind of dirty and run down. Beds were comfortable, tv was good. Hair in the bath tub. The AC was set at 75 when we got there and it was very stuffy and musty. We set the AC down to 65, out our stuff down and headed out to dinner. Came back an hour and 20 mins later and it was only down to 74. Few hours later it finally got to 68. Stains all over the walls. Grimy. Water pressure was maybe the worst I've ever experienced and I stay at a hotel 40-50 nights a year, but just recently used all my points on another family trip last month. Figured I'd try Expedia and BW. Learned my lesson! read more

If you have business in Hyde Park, or just want to avoid paying the high room and parking rates in downtown Chicago, you could do worse than this place. We've stayed here three times in the past year, and we're generally happy with our experiences thus far. This is no Hyatt or Ritz and so we set our expectations appropriately; nevertheless there is some room for improvement. What's good: - Free parking! Woo-hoo! I once stayed at the nearby Hyatt Place hotel on 53rd and I think I paid $40 a night to park. There is a small covered parking area, but it fills up by the early evening. There is plenty of outdoor parking. - Location. It is just off Lake Shore Drive, so getting into the city is pretty easy. Some rooms have a view of the lake, which is nice, but since you're also facing LSD the traffic noise can be bothersome. It's just a short walk to the lakefront and Promontory Point, which makes for a pleasant stroll. It's reasonably close to the University of Chicago, but it's probably farther than most people would prefer to walk. The Museum of Science and Industry is about a mile away and is an easy walk if you're up for it. - The rooms were fairly bright during the day, thanks for the large windows in our room. At night the lighting was better than average. The beds were comfortable (a little firmer than I'd like) and the pillows were soft, but small. There is a coffee machine and a mini-fridge, but no in-room safe. - Staff was mostly friendly and accommodating. Housekeeping was efficient and thorough. - Air conditioning worked well, but was a bit on the noisy side. However, the drone of the AC at night helped drown out the traffic noise too. - The quality of the free breakfast was pretty decent. - Self-serve coffee machine in the lobby makes mochas, cappuccinos, lattes, etc. any time of the day. What could be better: - The entrance to the hotel isn't actually marked, and since there is another hotel attached to this one, it's confusing as to where to go to check in. The first time I came here I drove right past the entrance because I couldn't tell where to go. - The breakfast area is small and gets crowded during peak hours. For the number of guests that can be there, especially on weekends, they often had trouble keeping food items in stock, and the line for the pancake machine was long. The one woman who was hustling around was remarkably cheerful though - props to her for keeping her cool while working under such stressful conditions. - There's not enough seating for breakfast. Many people were awkwardly sitting in the lounge chairs and benches because there were no tables available. - The alarm is some kind of special hotel clock that doesn't allow anyone to adjust the time, only the alarm time. It supposed to sync with some kind of atomic clock server to display the correct time, but it clearly wasn't working as it was off by over 10 minutes. Kind of annoying, and we eventually unplugged it since it was basically useless. - The exercise room had a funky odor, almost like burning rubber. Lighting was poor. The water dispenser wasn't working, and the strength training machine did not have several of the attachments necessary to actually use it. - The bathroom is a little small, and the water pressure through the shower head was somewhat weak. During a heavy rainstorm there was a lot of gurgling coming from the bathtub and toilet, and we worried that something was going to start backing up. This was a little unexpected since we were on the second floor when this happened. So not spectacular but not bad either. For the value, it is definitely a good place to stay. read more

Pretty good place. 3.5 stars. Room was good sized, bathroom fine. Staff was fine. They have a fitness room. But I did not have time to use it, so cannot say how good it is. Breakfast included, and very good with lots of items (machine that makes pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, cereal, and more). Location: you are close to the paths that go along the lake shore. Absolutely loved my room. Very clean, friendly staff, great prices and pretty views from some rooms. The location is what I loved the most about this hotel. It a walk across a small park to get to the sky bridge that takes you over to see Lake Michigan. Great view of the Chicago skyline from the wall that runs along the area across the bypass from the hotel. If you want a location that's out of the city, has lower prices than in town and yet a quick drive into the city? This is the place to go. read more

We chose this hotel because of location, breakfast, free parking and photos on Expedia. It was disappointing in person. Older building that has been mostly remodeled. Stairwell smelled like cigarettes. Couch was frayed and terribly uncomfortable with weird springs in cushions. No light switches in room. Room for 5 had 2 towels. Living room TV had only half the channels and picture quality of bedroom TV. Living room AC didn't work as well as bedroom unit. Bathroom had no fan. Windows overlooking the lake were dirty and surprisingly well obstructed by spiders and their webs. Expedia mentioned full breakfast but was actually "grab and go" disappointing junk. Fitness center was not available. Clean enough. Staff was friendly. Disappointing. read more

A view of Lake Michigan was important to us for our weekend and we had a stunning view of both the lake and the Chicago skyline. The building doesn't look like much when you first approach it. The lobby is small and clean. Their continental breakfast wasn't very impressive, but they were working with the restrictions of Covid-19 so they offered what they could offer safely. The room was really clean, had plenty of space, every amenity we needed (coffee maker, hair dryer, refrigerator, TV). What was impressive to me was that I wasn't feeling well, so I went downstairs and grabbed a bottle of water and a pack of Pepto Bismol. They told me it'd be $3.00 and when I handed them my debit card, they said, "Actually, just go ahead and take it." It was really thoughtful and helped save my evening. It was very close to the Museum of Science and Industry, it was near Hyde Park, and was right off Lake Shore Drive so a drive into the city was very easy. I'd stay here again for sure! read more

Sub-par hotel. I only stayed here because the Hyatt regency in Hyde Park was completely booked. I was first put in a room where the ac wasn't working. It was hotter in the room than outside. Fortunately I was able to switch rooms mid way though my 5 night stay. Free breakfast. They have the very basics like toast, cereal, hard boiled eggs, waffles, coffee and juice. Nothing too spectacular, but I guess it's nice since it's free/included in the price of the room. Free internet. The internet was as slow as molasses and wasn't secure (no password). Maid service. Cleans we're cleaned. One weird thing I noticed is they leave the toilet seat up. Toiletries were replaced everyday. Staff. As others have mentioned, the staff here are a little rude and unfriendly. Bathroom smelled like a sewer. Mold all in the tub. Room itself smelled foul, maybe a carpet cleaning is needed. Idk. Went downstairs for breakfast, overheard another guest complaining of the cereal being stale. I found a dead fruit fly in the bottom of my cup of apple juice. Pool being out of order in august is crazy. The parking is a nightmare. Potholes and poorly lit. No way in the world I would stay here again nor recommend to anyone. read more

The receptionist that works nights; specifically during the New Years Eve week is not really friendly and is very under-dressed and overly relaxed. She's always sitting in the lobby chairs when I come to the lobby and never greets us. The automated lobby doors don't seem to work properly and I was struggling with bags to come in the lobby but the doors wouldn't open she was just sitting on the lobby chairs staring at me for a few minutes before she slowly got up and opened the lobby doors. I just would expect more from an employee who is supposed to represent the face of La Quinta . But then again this was the south side of Chicago and not the downtown locations where we are used to getting shown excellent hospitality and customer service. Never again this location . This place is terrible. The location is so far from everything and overall completely dead. It's a nice neighborhood don't get me wrong but it's so secluded from everything. The people at the front desk always seemed like they had a negative attitude towards anything that was asked from them even when I called from the simplest things. I even asked if they could hold some food for me that was being delivered for maybe 5minutes while I came down and they refused to work with me or cater to any needs. My room had a leak in the ceiling!!!! And they didn't even go out do their way to do anything about it. Someone came and temporarily fixed it for a day then it was back to how it was!!! The only reason this hotel is not getting a one star from me because the maid service in the hotel was helpful all weekend and super nice and checked in on us everyday to make sure we had everything we needed. read more

I haven't stayed at a La Quinta Inn in several years due to a previously bad experience, but decided to give it another shot while in town for a concert. * Check in was smoothly and was efficient. The staff at the front desk were friendly and provided us with information regarding parking and the continental breakfast. * The room was clean and comfortable. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Comfortable bed, plush towels, and plenty of room for two adults. * Continental breakfast was a typical hotel breakfast, but good! Breakfast hours are from 6AM-9AM, which we thought was ample time. * Check Out was as effortless as check in. Dealt with the same staff member as the night prior upon checking in; friendly and efficient. We definitely loved the fact that free, covered parking was offered. We will be back again. read more

I stayed here unexpectedly when I needed a last minute hotel in Chicago land that allowed dogs. Really great spot! I made the reservation online, arrived about 40 min later, dogs stay free, parking is free, breakfast is free, WiFi is free... how much better can you get? Slightly overpriced, however it is in Chicago so there's not much one can do about that! A huge benefit and plus that they have parking which many hotels in the area especially those in the city don't offer it! They did offer a small breakfast, not much but it's enough to start your day and plays it's FREE! Uber and lyft is abundant in this city and is just a quick 10-15 drive into the city to the sights! However most staff were quite rude! We were on the fourth floor and the Wifi would constantly go in and out! I would see signs for vending and there were none! I went down to get a drink at their concessions/front desk and was charged way over priced for an ice tea, $3!! I asked the hostess the first night where the pool was and she looked at me quite weird and said it was closed for the season, it was mid July when we stayed! I love Laquinta and never have had a bad experience but would not stay at this location again In addition to cap it off on our last night we were awoken by a fire alarm around midnight, because as we were told, someone pulled the alarm, just very annoyed, have a long drive almost 13 hours in the morning and would like to get a restful nights sleep. read more

Stayed at this location for a 2 day trip through the Windy City and was not impressed. I am only giving it 2 starts because of its location right across from Lake Michigan and it's lake beach and it's proximity to the Navy Pier and McCormick place. Parking at this location is free but in all honesty I would have preferred to pay since there was not enough space when the hotel was booked to capacity....which was the case on both nights of my stay. The staff need more training as other reviewers have stated, I had a reservation but the check in process was longer than at any other hotels, the staff was having a very hard time checking in all guests as they are very slow at doing so. Since the hotel was booked to capacity I do not know why did they did not provide enough food for breakfast, but needless to say there was no breakfast available past 8:30 am. The room was a bit outdated for an "executive suite" and the bedding was a bit old and worn. The price that was paid for this room does not meet the conditions that it was in. Next time I will make sure to carefully make a selection and I am now weary of La Quinta hotels. read more

This was generally a nice hotel in a great Hyde Park location with a nicely finished interior and comfortable rooms. I was also pleased with the quality of the housekeeping service during my stay. There were a couple main desk staff persons that I found to be pleasant and professional. I was particularly impressed with the professionalism of the desk attendant named Tesh. Other front desk workers could brush up on their customer service skills. The negatives included hearing noisy guests in other rooms and in the corridor. I'm a little surprised by the lower rating at this location. I've stayed here a handful of times for work, and I haven't had any issues. I appreciate that they offer free parking; that is a rare find in a Chicago hotel. I haven't dealt with any horrific staff--most employees have been friendly and helpful. They may not be 100% chipper, but they get the job done, and I've never had any issues with check-in. Rooms are comfortable, clean and safe. Although the hotel bumps right up against Lake Shore Drive, I never hear any noises from outside. Walls and ceilings are not well-insulated, so I can often hear footsteps from upstairs if I'm not on the top floor, and doors opening/closing is a common soundtrack during a stay. My biggest knock for this place is the price point. While it's a decent hotel, they definitely over-charge for rooms. You can find cheaper stays in the Loop for what they charge for a nightly rate. read more

Wonderful, stay. Zero complaints! Sam at the front desk was so kind and sweet, she helped us both days really improving our experience. Also Charlie was a wonderful help to us also at the front desk. It's great to have nice staff, it makes all the difference. Only "problem" I had was the breakfast was all almost 100% carbs. NO EGGS! There was sausage, biscuits/gravy, waffles, cereal, bagels/bread/muffins. no potato and a couple whole oranges/apples, and a couple hard boiled eggs. Both days were the exact same breakfast. I was disappointed in the options. GREAT location for the train. Close walk and easy to get back and forth with luggage. Oh one thing we did notice was the doors slam really easy and sometimes you could hear people coming and going. read more

Join arriving, the place seemed deserted. We then came to find out it is under construction/remodeling. Anyways entering the lobby, we were greeted by the woman named Abigail I believe. She was slightly sassy, but helped us get our room. When going upstairs, we found our room to be clean, and fairy modern. I slept like a baby all the way through, and there is breakfast, but I missed it for sleeping in. (6:00-9:00 am) Overall a real clean and still under work h(m)otel. I would recommend! read more

My friends were guests at LaQuinta Inn over the weekend. One my friends hastily left an important medical item behind. She called the front desk immediately and made them aware of her error. Reasonable price for being so close to downtown Chicago and also Chinatown. We stayed in a 2 queen bedroom suite with lake view. Bedroom itself is spaceous and clean but bathroom has a bad smell and that's what will greet you as you enter the room. They also offer breakfast included with our stay which is nice. Waffles is good but the eggs needs improvement it so greasy being it scrambled at that. Also a plus is they have free parking onsite. read more

10/10 would NOT recommend. The manager was extremely rude to us. He wanted to charge us a $250 incidental fee for booking with a debit card rather than a credit card (more than the combined cost of the two rooms we had booked). We could not afford to pay this and were made to leave even though we had already reserved the rooms. What's more, the manager wasn't even apologetic about the situation. He spoke to us condescendingly, going so far as to call us "suspicious" (when the same debit card had worked perfectly fine at another La Quinta in Cleveland). Please don't waste your money supporting the business of this rude and unkind man. Save yourself the trouble and choose a different hotel. read more

The good: The value for your money is excellent. The hotel is clean and modern, parking is free, and the continental breakfast is convenient. All La Quintas are pet friendly, which is a must for us because we often travel with our two labs. We also had an issue with a clogged toilet during our stay and it was addressed quickly. Five Stars. The not so good: The check in process was quick as usual at La Quintas, but one of the front desk agents wasn't particularly welcoming (the other was, so it kind of balanced out). We are frequent La Quinta guests, and the customer service is typically phenomenal, so it was just odd that this particular agent wasn't. We had booked a king size bed but were put in a room with 2 queens instead. Not the end of the world, just not what we reserved. No change to stars here for me, just minor notes as an FYI for future guests. The bad: The amount of noise coming from the hallway, the rooms next door, and the rooms above was unbelievable. I'm not sure if there are bars or clubs nearby, but people seemed to be coming and going all night long, and doing so loudly. We called the front desk around midnight to see if they could address the issue, we were told the guests had just arrived (even though it was more than one room). They offered to move our room, but the new room was equally as noisy, so we elected to tough it out. I continued to be woken up all night long by other loud guests. I only deducted 1 star for this, as it's not in the hotels control how other guests behave. Might be worth it to look into hotels located in areas that would have less coming and going through the night. read more

My family came for a graduation. Not only did each room come with different amenities (microwave/fridge in one...one room nothing) the AC in my parents' room didn't work. The worst part is the lack of communication. We lost an item, and the hotel continues to redirect us to a non-functioning number. I'm sure there is no lost and found. They just keep all of the items. Great graduation. Disappointing accommodation. And the service was awful. I suggest an Airbnb. That's what I'd suggest to my parents if we could do a redo. read more

We came for a graduation in June 2018 and opted to stay at La Quinta, Lake Shore Drive since it is close to our relatives in Hyde Park. We were told the hotel had been remodeled recently. First impressions matter: the lobby seemed deserted when we arrived late afternoon and the lone staff member was not friendly, though not rude. The furniture in the lobby was dirty. I pledged not to sit on any of the fabric chairs. Our room smelled stuffy even with the fan on, but I got used to it eventually. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable; we both slept well, not too much noise noticed. Breakfast was available and I was able to get a yogurt and coffee. I was not interested in anything else. This location does offer limited parking which is a plus. Overall, the hotel needs a good refreshing. I would stay again because of the great location. read more

I only give one star for this hotel because my room was nice and I slept well. Everything else I'll have to give a thumbs down. False advertisement about free breakfast on the website. The lady at the service desk was ridiculously ignorant and rude. First of all, she didn't even greet my with a hello and I had to knock to get in when I know she clearly saw me . Due to the pandemic, I'm unable to renew my drivers license and it has expired. She told me she couldn't rent me a room because of this. I mentioned that under law, businesses are pardoning expired licenses til August and that I was able to board a plane and rent a car with no hassle. She was adamant with her decision and told me I shouldn't have waited til last minute to obtain it. I told her it was not of her concern and that I shouldn't have to explain to her my business. I told her I'm going to call and report her and she said she didn't care. So I sat in the lobby and stared at her. This made her feel very uneasy and she told me I couldn't stay in lobby so I told her I have nowhere else to go and that if she would give my room I already paid for, I'd get outta her face. She finally told me she'd give me my room this time but I need to hurry up and get a valid license! I realized she was just an evil rude person who shouldn't have applied for a job in that line of work because she was rude to two other guests who came in! She also was the one who told me there's no breakfast due to COVID 19. That was the only reason I picked that hotel at that high price. was so my daughter and I could have breakfast in the morning before our flight. I'm still upset over this! read more

My family and I stayed here a week ago and had a wonderful time. The parking garage was perfect and breakfast was good! My first room had a leaky heater and the maintenance team was checking on it within 5 minutes of me calling and the front desk staff had arranged for me change rooms within 15 minutes of me calling. Such a great experience. As we left, I accidentally left car keys with my Apple AirPods attached to them in my room. I am so so so thankful to the housekeeping team who found them and kept them safe and to Michelle and Lidia who arranged for them to be mailed to me. Thank you!! This hotel is just far enough outside the city to be quiet and calm at night, but close enough to take a 10/15 minute Lyft or Uber to the city and know your car is safe in the parking lot. Great little hotel right across from Lake Michigan and a park. I choose to stay here because I have an older dog that doesn't get around in the city too well anymore. This hotel is located right outside Hyde Park so it's close enough to the city, yet in an area where she can move slower. The staff is always friendly, the rooms are clean and some of the views are beautiful! La Quinta hotels never charge extra for pets so they are always one of my first options when traveling with the pup. read more

Reception desk training needed. Not rude, but not friendly. Stood at desk as two staff dealt with paperwork for three or four minutes. No, "welcome, I will be with you in a minute." When the staff finished, there was still no welcome. Just "Name", and "identification, credit card". When we went up to our room, someone had obviously smoked in the room and there was a very strong odor of disinfectant that did not disguise the smoke smell. We went down, got reassigned another (and satisfactory) room but there was no apology or any other acknowledgement. Breakfast also looked poor. The coffee, which was instant, was bad and we decided to have breakfast elsewhere. Internet connection did not work. This La Quinta is not on the University of Chicago's "recommended" list and they cited ownership turnover and mediocre reviews. We decided to stay nonetheless rather than choose a hotel in the Loop or our near Midway Airport (and the Hyatt was fully booked). I think management has an opportunity to earn the University's recommendation but has to improve the service. There aren't that many other hotels in the area, so maybe the attitude is, "It doesn't matter." But if you had higher demand due to better service you may have the opportunity to get a higher occupancy rate or even charge a bit more. read more

The high speed internet they advertise isn't fast. It isn't slow either, it's nonexistent. You can log in but you will get no bandwidth at all. The night we moved in she helped me get our luggage upstairs as my partner was ill. The new manager is very friendly and welcoming. The price is superb and includes free parking in their attached garage. Breakfast is filling. It includes 2 hot meats. Very clean. Came home for a visit and stayed here (it used to be a Ramada). Didn't spend much time at the hotel, but it served its purpose. Good breakfast choices. The only downside was the outdoor pool. This is Chicago...outdoor pools are wrong!!! read more

The view from the lake view rooms and the customer service received from the shuttle driver are wonderful. The customer service for the rest of the lobby staff is the worst I have ever experienced. Night shift staff felt sprawling out on lobby couches, away from seeing arriving guests, and talking to other staff is more important than assisting guests and being courteous to them. Pretty good bargain in this location, a few blocks from the lake, near the somewhat sketchy Hyde Park area. Older building remodeled in the recent, but not real recent past. Free parking includes a small covered area next to the lobby that holds about 20 cars, and more parking outside. I noticed some guests eyeing the covered area, waiting for someone to leave so they could grab a coveted spot. Small baths but good beds. Heating unit oscillates from a bit too hot to too cold much of the night (November) but tolerable. There's no laundry for guests to use which is not typical for this chain. All in all, meh. But it's all about the location. read more

Happy to find it was a clean, comfortable place. Our nephew had an interview at Chicago State Univ and the school suggested the Oak Lawn Hilton. We didn't want to go out to the southwest suburbs to pick him up and get him to his meeting so for our convenience we wanted him to stay in the city. We stayed there, too, so he'd feel safe. Turned out to be a great deal - free parking and breakfast and a location close to downtown and museums (and lots of restaurants in Hyde Park). No need to feel "unsafe" - guests seem to be a diverse middle class bunch and all of the staff is friendly and helpful. So we recommend this to out-of-towners with cars who want to avoid the high room rates and traffic downtown. read more
