I didn't frequent Peabody's since I have never been a person who loves dancing or DJs. Also, I was outside of Peabody's target demographic of 18-24 year-olds. This was during my "bitter chick rock" phase that still rears its head now and then, and one of my favorite bitter chick bands was L7! I saw their show at Peabody's on April 15, 1997. It was a great venue for this raw, bitter, loud band with a house packed and standing room only of fans trying their best to make a mosh pit. I guess Hole was my second favorite bitter chick band. Back to the L7 show. Classified as grunge, punk, and metal, I think L7 is more chick punk. Their guitarist was unavailable this night, and they replaced her with a local Va Beach chick guitarist who did a great job. The locals recognized her, I didn't. Smoking was allowed inside, and this audience was pretty aggressive for the times, with a lot of college aged guys wearing backwards baseball caps. That's fine, until the guys use their ballcaps as weapons to poke me in the forehead and face to try to keep me out of their mosh pit making range. The goal of the audience was to get to stage front. The audience even resorted to using cigarette lighters to burn each others clothes. Who does this? This show was during "The Beauty Process" tour and the setlist was great with songs from previous CDs including "L7" and other previous music. Par for the course, during "Cat-O-Nine Tails," a guy in leather bondage was brought on stage and then whipped with a whip by Donita, the lead singer. I'm confident this was just a show, and the poor guy wasn't hurt. "The Masses are Asses" is another L7 tune I like. Why no fifth star? The bouncers were interesting. They waited for patrons to make their way to the stage and for the most part, escorted the patron to the door - kicking nearly each one out. The crowd was "elbow to elbow" making it clear it was difficult to just take an overly rowdy and rough patron from the center of the crowd to kick them out. Still, the bouncers were sophomoric, and should have managed the crowd better. I'm happy to have seen L7, I'm happy my party were hurt, and I'm happy Peabody's provided a sizeable venue for an alternative show in the late 90s!

I went here to celebrate my birthday and had a blast!…read more I love the aesthetic of the club. There were flashing lights, streamers blowing out every once in a while, along with smoke. I loved the little details too like the small fake candles decorating the flat surfaces. The dancers were cool and playful. They let my friend dance on stage. They really got the club going. Surprisingly, with everything going on, it was not hard to breathe and I wasn't feeling stuffy or hot although I danced the night away. The service was patient and quick, but the quality of the drinks were not affected. All the drinks I've had were well made and tasted like they had the perfect amount of liquor in them, not too sweet but not too strong. I love the look of the glasses they came in too. I expected plastic cups or just a regular glass cup at most since it was a club, but they really put effort into the aesthetics of the drinks as well. The DJ was lit! I loved how he not only played music that was popular right now, but he also threw in some songs from different cultures and played some throwbacks. It was a set made where there was at least a song or two for everyone to like, and luckily, I liked every song he played. I had a section and the seating was comfortable. Along with the club, it looked nice. The only thing that bothered me was that it was by the door, so it was hard to dance with people coming in and out a lot. But I wouldn't go to the dance floor either, people were crammed like sardines. Besides the size and layout of the club, overall, I really enjoyed myself and will definitely come back. I recommend everyone to try this place out. I'm sure you'll like the music and drinks too!

My friend ordered the Cuban and it was HUGE and looked delicious. Served with crispy steak fries. Yum. Her portion was also huge so she ate half her sandwich and took the rest home. I chose the breakfast burrito loaded with cheese, eggs, ham and pico and served with breakfast potatoes. The burrito was HUGE and I ate like half and a little more and was full for hours. Really good price and great portion. Service was excellent and they weren't very busy despite the Neptune Festival weekend so, we were able to sit on the patio and then see the back area (which was closed) and get a feel for when they have music or events. Very friendly people and very cool vibes and decor with an excellent menu. Definitely going to have to come back here for music and try to sit in back. It's huge - it goes back like half the city block.

Even after waiting in line, customers are only allowed one drink at a time and then must get back in line again. Meanwhile, there was only one person working the bar, creating long waits for everyone. The food situation was even worse. I waited approximately an hour and a half for food after already standing in line to place my order. Customers are given a ticket that must be turned in to receive their food, but if the ticket is misplaced by staff or lost, you're essentially out of luck. There has to be a better system than that in 2026. The customer service was terrible. The kitchen staff was rude, and overall the employees treated paying customers as if they were inconveniencing them rather than supporting the business. It felt like basic courtesy and professionalism were completely absent. I also found it ridiculous that people were standing in long lines waiting for food inside what is supposed to be a nightlife venue. On top of that, the place is cash only, which feels outdated and unnecessary in 2026. The only reason this place seems to stay popular is because people like the atmosphere enough to tolerate the poor service and inefficient policies. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy myself at all. As someone visiting from out of state, this was one of the most unprofessional and frustrating experiences I've had at an establishment. I will not be returning and would not recommend it to anyone who expects decent customer service and a well organized operation.
