My friend and I have been trying to come for brunch at Lunasea for a while and finally were able to after a nice Yoga session Their brunch menu isn't huge but they have a nice selection of favorites: French toast, breakfast burrito, Monte Cristo sandwich, etc. They also serve from their extensive lunch menu during brunch and have salads, entrees, loads of sandwiches and other items. My friend ordered the Cuban and it was HUGE and looked delicious. Served with crispy steak fries. Yum. Her portion was also huge so she ate half her sandwich and took the rest home. I chose the breakfast burrito loaded with cheese, eggs, ham and pico and served with breakfast potatoes. The burrito was HUGE and I ate like half and a little more and was full for hours. Really good price and great portion. Service was excellent and they weren't very busy despite the Neptune Festival weekend so, we were able to sit on the patio and then see the back area (which was closed) and get a feel for when they have music or events. Went here around 9:30 pm on a Thursday after an event and there was no one there. This was great for us because we had no wait time and could order immediately. I've been here before so I already knew I wanted the nachos again, unfortunately we did ask for no olives or tomatoes, but they were put on anyways. The waitress did apologize though. They were good (8/10). Had a long wait on the drinks like my last visit, but it still tasted good: I had the Havana Banana (8/10). It was beginning to rain outside so we didn't get to listen to the live band. Still keeping this place on my go to spot list for when I'm out the oceanfront. Two drinks and Nachos came out to $41. My friend and myself got thrown out because we ordered crab cakes and did not like it! We offered to even pay for it and order something else but they told us that they were in transition in the kitchen ! So we ordered some drinks to buy time to see how long the transition is . Took a party of 18 today for brunch. WOW! If you are looking for an amazingly beautiful restaurant with a fantastic atmosphere, delicious food with large portions and delectable drinks....go to Luna Sea. I usually have fun here but the bartenders can be rude. I've been here a few times and one time, I tried to order a Hurricane and the bartender went on a minute long spiel about how he can't just make drinks that other bars have and that you can't just ask a bartender for some obscure drink just because local bars serve those. I've been a bartender, I've been to mixology school and a hurricane is a classic cocktail, like dude what? It's cool if you don't know how to make certain drinks, but to lecture me for an odd amount of time and treat me like I'm an idiot just made the rest of the night weird and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Another time, I attended and a member of my group was ordering and covering all of my drinks. I was feeling woozy, and went up to the bar a few times for some water. The bartender didn't seem to like that and said to me when I asked, "yeah well I'm at work, so you'll have to wait since you only want some water". Which, honestly, I can get on some level. I know you don't make any money off that, but frankly I had several drinks and I know for a fact the dude I was with was a decent tipper so it's not like I was some random cheapo not consuming anything from the establishment. He still gave me water and didn't take long, I'm not gonna lie but I just really disliked feeling like such a weirdo. It honestly wouldn't have bothered me if I didn't watch the bartender be so sweet and smiley and engaging to EVERYONE else who was trying to order. I don't know, maybe im just sensitive, I just wanted to give my honest take. Honestly, I have a great time when I go here for the most part, but it matters more the people you attend with and the DJ. We are having a girl's trip to VA Beach and stumbled upon this place after a round of mini golf. The place had a funky welcoming vibe. Went on a Sunday for a beach walk with my dog and randomly found the restaurant. Very welcoming and kind woman up front. She took care of my dog by bringing her a bowl of water and a bandana. Outside seating gave me a chance to dine with my dog. I ordered a crab dip which was pretty good. The crab dip was topped with cheddar cheese, didn't really like that but was still decent. The chips were very crunchy and light. Fish tacos were great with all the other toppings on the side. Not sure if pinto beans were an option since I'm not a fan of black beans, it was good nonetheless. Topped it off with a Bloody Mary. Decent size bacon with three olives and celery. Overall nice lunch. The only con the really bugs me is that they already include 18% tip automatically. I always try to give a honest overall review of all the factors in place. 1.) The overall service was GREAT 2.) Cost for food GOOD 3.) Food & quality leaves a lot to be desired ! ! ! My buddy and I stopped in Sat 3/8/2025 at 11:30 am for breakfast. We were the only 2 there. I ordered 2 eggs sunny side up with sausage, hashbrowns and white toast. When my order arrived the eggs were over not sunny side up. After a short discussion they corrected the egg problem. I asked for jelly or jam for the toast. I was told they no longer offer either. Then asked for butter. First whoever heard of having toast and jelly or jam wasn't available. The butter was so dam hard you couldn't spread it on the toast without destroying the bread to pieces. The sauage was partly raw in the middle and the potatoes were hard and salty. I ate the 2 eggs and half of 1 sauage and left the rest as to me it really wasn't worth eating and was awful. When the barmaid came by and asked how was everything, I told her it was one of the worst breakfasts I ever had and she said she was sorry to hear that and took my plate with 3/4 of it still on it away. When I got my check she was happy to inform me that they had taken 3 dollars off the bill. Big deal ! If this is all you do for creding a meall that sucked then this is not a place I nor my family will come to again. To bad they did such a nice job on the renovation to serve poor food. I love this place! Too bad our last visit was so terrible. I previously reviewed and what a night/day difference. Before going I checked their website for any info on restrictions, etc. and it's the same as it has been for years. Wife and I went for brunch on Sunday, at noon. I love breakfast, she prefers lunch so we went later and sat at the bar. One other person and the bar tender. We ordered drinks, I got the carafe and bottle of champagne for mimosas, wife wanted the bloody mary bar but of course covid has removed that (website update required), but got the bartender special. First issue, the BM was rimmed with salt not the old Bay as described on the menu, lemon ring and 2 olives. Strike #1. The menu was shorter than usual [expected] but there were absolutely no lunch items! We asked if there was a regular menu and were told not yet (dinner?), so Strike #2. More on my thoughts later. So the wife decided not to eat, and ordered a second BM with Old Bay this time. bartender said they didn't have Old Bay but had a sweet chili powder that she could use, so she opted for that. *look at the drink menu and note all the references to Old Bay. If you're out, swing by Wal-Mart and grab a few cans so you can make the drinks as described. I ordered the crab con queso benedict and it seemed most appealing to me. Arrived after a longer time than expected since the place wasn't jamming and how long does it take to toast a muffin and cook over easy eggs? When it arrived there was a small pile of potatoes and a massive amount of queso [yum] covering the ham (no pic, sorry). I wanted to check for the egg cook and lifted the ham to find an untoasted english muffin. Not a lightly toasted muffin, but untoasted. The manager must have seen me inspecting so he asked if everything was alright. I showed him the muffin and he seemed perturbed and agreed that it wasn't the quality he expected. Took it away and offered me something else, so I opted for the breakfast fajitas. Strike #3. The fajitas arrived, bigger pile of potatoes that were warm and tasty. The tortillas were warm as were the eggs. The onions and peppers were't cooked enough, barely/aldente [everyone has different preferences on veggie cook- I like them soft and caramelized) and the sausage was flavorful. There was a cold plate of sour cream, shredded cheese, lettuce(?) and salsa. Of note, the salsa was frozen, not cold but literally icey. Strike #4. We got a checkin from the manager again and when he asked how it was I asked if he wanted some truth/feedback, and he said yes. So I pointed out the cook on the veggies and the frozen salsa. The salsa was a problem it appeared. We finished eating and drinking and got the tab. 4% was automatically added to the tab. We said we would pay in cash so the bartender adjusted the bill. Be careful and check or bring cash so you don't support their choice of credit card providers. So, given the menu listed, how hard would it have been to have a few non-breakfast items available. a cheese burger should be a staple for any restaurant; there were fajitas, why not grill some chicken and swap out the eggs/sausage (fish tacos were on the dinner special sign - maybe some fish tacos too), the breakfast burrito and BLT could of had variations for lunch options and even a limited kitchen should be able to pull that off. I mean it is advertised as brunch not breakfast. I get all the challenges of staffing now, it is everywhere, but this just seemed like a lack of motivation/caring/creativity. So, I attended their tequila tasting festival and I was pleasently surprised because the place is way bigger than expected. I did not get a chance to taste the food but the tequila tasting, entertainment and music was great.The back of the restaurant has a sand pit, mechanical bull and the even had fire artists. Doesn't look very big from the outside, but apparently there are multiple bars and a sandpit inside. Sitting on the patio facing 22nd st was nice. The menu is a bit mixed in terms of cuisine. Lettuce wraps with shrimp was good. Lettuce is the wrap replacing the flour tortilla, very low carb I guess. You also get black beans, tomato/onion mix, rice, sour cream, all served in separate little containers. They are quite good with presentation here. Shrimp Po Boy had a very large type of shrimp, fresh batter, served on a brioche bread. You get 5 or of these big style shrimps. Comes with fries. Also had the coconut shrimp, which have a really good coconut coating, with the flakes properly mixed in, not just sprinkled on top, served with a sweet chili (lime?) sauce. For dessert Key Lime Cheesecake, which was a bit too dense, could have been more airy, otherwise fine. Service was attentive, smiling and friendly, never had to sit and wonder where is she?!? Though I've been here once before years ago (and they had some pretty good fries), I actually came this time around for the tequila fest they were hosting. Man was I surprised! I've been to the restaurant part but never knew there was an entire club, too?? We got there around 8-9pm and there was a line but it was moving pretty fast. The door man checked our ID only and the money handler was very unenthusiastic. almost a mood ruiner. Once we got in, it was packed! There was a sandpit with a stage and bull to include multiple bars and a balcony-like viewing areas. There is also an inside bar, which is where all the tequila tasting was going on. LunaSea hosted a 80+ person event for us this weekend on their back deck and it was a huge success! Everyone in attendance was really stoked with the beautiful two level layout which could have easily handled 2X the number of people. Colleen, the owner, catered the food, and we had a private bar service. Both the food and the service were excellent and certainly made it a very special event! There's also room for a band or DJ and a dance floor. They had 4-5 cornhole sets out for us and everyone had a blast. A great afternoon! read more
