Wow. My friend paid his tab and didn't get his credit card back. He asked for his card and they never gave it back. Instead bouncers took him out back and brutally beat him unconscious. It's definitely a Great vibe going on in here. The bar is located on the main strip - Atlantic Ave. The security guy pointed us in the direction of a clear table. The waiter cleaned the table & we sat. The drink menus are located on the wall and the food menu is on a chalk style board on the middle of tge restaurant. The bar also offers flavored hookah. We purchased souvenir glasses that can be refilled for $9 each time that you visit. I had the Beach long island & my friend had a purple haze. The music was blasting old school r&b & hip hop. This place serves as a blast from the past by giving a hint of normalcy before the pandemic attacked! The lumpitas were served piping hot but kinda small & rolled together. Originally, I rated this place a 5 star but sadly when I returned a few hours later with my nice souvenir cup, the dynamics of this place had changed. My friend and I walked in & began looking for a table but a security guy told us that our ID had to be checked outside. We were looking stunned because there was no bouncer outside which is clearly why we walked in. A guy in plain clothes asked for my ID so I got it out & showed him. He reviewed it then abruptly kicked me out the club because there were no tables available. The same guy that was busy getting a young lady's phone number & not on his job initially. I was hellbent on getting a cheeseburger and super disappointed about the sand bar not having any but decided to stay anyway.. GREAT DECISION! These may have been the best wings I've ever tasted and I'm a big wing person. My waiter was Stanley was super super friendly, down to earth and even more helpful! Dirty, loud & they harassed me with my service dog because they don't know service dog laws. The two doormen said that anyone could buy a vest so they needed to see my paperwork. Ada doesn't require a vest or paperwork. Not to mention my dogs vest was made out of my old military uniform. Also all an establishment can ask is if the dog is a service dog & what tasks the dog has been trained to preform... Sandbar is a quaint, long and narrow, hole in the wall bar, that very much reminds me of the bars back home in my little town of West Lafayette, Indiana. I really felt right at home right when I walked in and sat down right at the bar with my husband and friend Zach. Our bartender, jokingly introduced himself as PJ (peanut butter/jelly), and was very friendly and accommodating. He took our drink orders, and handed us menus because we were very hungry and it was around 4pm so we needed some dinner in our faces! Bar food is not my first pick, but after scanning the menu, I chose 10 wings with a side of fries, Zach chose 20 wings with fries, and my husband chose the Jack Daniels burger with fries. There were several sauces to choose from, around 10 if I remember, so I chose teriyaki and pineapple bbq, and Zach chose the dirty wings. I was pleased to see that the wings were made fresh in front of us, fresh raw chicken wings fried up so they were still nice and crunchy even after sauced! The wings were on the small side, so next time I will get more than 10. Luke, the cook, was the only one in the kitchen when we arrived and he cooked up and presented our meals, and everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. Better than many restaurants I have been to in the past. I took a bite of my husbands burger and whoa, it was so juicy and well put together, with perfectly melted cheese and crisp bacon. The curly fries I watched being made, and they were crunchy, hot, seasoned perfectly and served on cute wooden boards. The bar food back at home isn't this good! The guys ate thier meals with cold beers, and ended their meals with a few shots just for the fun of it. Overall, we walked out feeling satisfied, and happy, and we will for sure return! read more

Came here on a Monday night because my family was on vacation. The music was good so we stopped in. Drinks weren't terribly expensive and the service was pretty good. What was terribly disturbing about this place was the intoxicated blonde GIRL who was letting several different people take belly shots off of her stomach and dancing on the bar next to us. I use the term girl because women don't do that. The crazy part about it was the bar actually had a horizontal handle bar on the ceiling specifically for people who wanted to stand on the bar and dance. I'm from Jersey, we don't dance on bars or let 8 random people drink tequila outta our belly button. HUAHHH. But what can you expect? It's a vacation town for 21 year olds. Last night I went to sandbar and was having a drink with my best friend. My head was turned and I was talking to her, but something inside me told me to look at my drink. When I did I saw a little yellow pill in my drink. I asked for a new drink, but the bar tenders all acted nonchalant about it. They weren't concerned at all by this. I remember one bar tendering buying me a drink and I shook his hand, but it was super super sweaty and I remember thinking that was weird. We had made plans to go Peabody's but she wasn't feeling the Silent Night thing. So we went to LunaSea which was cool but the sound was terrible. Left there and here is where my night became amazing. We walk into The Sandbar, no cover.. awesome, beautiful people a plus and hip hop SCORE. I didnt order any food, we just had drinks. They were about the price I pay here in Roanoke for a drink so it wasn't bad. The poors were good and the staff cute AF. Not sure if there were bouncers but to be honest they didn't need them. Roanoke bars do not play this type of music becuause they want to keep out "certain types" of people. This place Sandbar had everyone in there. It was 60 30 black and no one looked scared to move even when it was super packed. There were no fights, I stepped on a girl's toe and her man said no worries and she was boy you're fine.. like the venue was small but it didn't matter the place was lit the bartenders were quick and on point... I'm not sure really what to make of this place. I came here after being let down next door at chemistry with one hell of a weak ass margarita. Its location was sheer convenience, but I was pleasantly surprised at the sounds that the DJ was spinning. My confusion began to settle in when I realized that no one was dancing and there was a section of this bar that's clearly cut out for dancing. Its kind of crazy too because the crowd was mostly black, and I actually like that as opposed to chemistry next door which was mostly white. It was kinda sad because both places we're almost identical in style, music, and atmosphere but the crowds were so separated. I'm used to my Ny crowds that are nice and diverse, not this split up bull ish. Needless to say my friend did not want to stay here what so ever, an so we left. 2013 Memorial Weekend - We walked the strip Saturday and heard the great music coming out this place and decided to stop in and have an early afternoon drink. Christian the GM gave us VIP cards for free drinks. We liked it so much that we returned later that night. Once again had a great time. The crowd was positive I did see some sites that were questionable but hey people were on vacation. Met interesting people the music was great. So we decided to walk the strip Sunday and try another place but didn't hear great music so decided to come back to Sandbar. We should have stayed in our hotel room. The crowd was rough not like the night before were I could drink and have a great time. Sunday night I had to be on fight watch couldn't let my hair down. They there was a bartender who spoke more then the dj and wanted to do a champagne shower. What we don't do those things in NY we go to hear great music and look cute so I slid to the side. Then they did body shots yeah we don't do those either in NY well atleast I don't. They the Bartender wanna be dj was talking about how the other bartender was his girlfriend and she cheated on him. I've had my fair share of bar and club experiences living in south Florida, but there is nothing like those small, personable dive bars you can run into and enjoy for hours. This is one of them! The bar tenders are amazing, the music is great, TV's everywhere, and some games in the back. This is not the Fountainbleau. Do not expect anything fancy. What you can expect are awesome drink prices and quick service. I'm sure this place gets slammed during season. I'm coming back this summer and definitely going to be visiting again. read more

This is our go-to spot when we come to VA beach for so many reasons. The staff is outstanding, the drinks are good and the location is right on the strip. Last time we came, security took care of a situation (involving some drunk men harassing us at the bar) without hesitation and without us even asking for help. We were very impressed with the establishment and we will come back every time we are in town. Today, we are here for our second visit and we are being very well taken care of by the staff. Please read carefully: Progressively each visit gets worse, the most recent visit ending with one of the female bartenders GIVING my credit card away to another customer with whom the staff was familiarized with. The bartender insisted the first few times I asked that my card was returned, until I finally had to be informed by another staff member, [because the young lady was too prideful, arrogant, and remorseless to admit her wrongdoing] that there was a "mixup," and that my card would be returned within ten minutes. 40 minutes went by until closing and I got not one piece of help from any of the staff involved in the situation. Other than the bartender's incompetence (Jackie), security is highly responsible as well as responsive. However the average attention span for the bartending staff is relatively poor. Visiting the area for my cousin's college graduation, we decided to head to the beach for some drinks and to celebrate. It's a Saturday night. We stopped here since the music was good and the entry was free however, the service was trash and the bartender (who I later found out was part-owner) had a terrible attitude. First I witnessed him snap on a guy for leaving a $2 tip on a 20$ bill. Bartender was pissed he only left 10%. Okaayy... I guess this is the kind of establishment where your bartender might try to fight you if you don't tip well. Mental note. Then I ordered a Jack & Coke. You know how sometimes there's the last little pesky bit of liquor left in a bottle that's not really enough to make a drink, not enough for a shot, and barely even covers the surface of the bottom but its there so you drink it? That's what he gave me. THAT'S WHAT HE GAVE ME! ...And filled the rest with Coke. No wonder you get $2 tips bro! I had to say something. Why should I pay $10 for a plastic cup of Coke?! I thought at very least he'd get another bottle and top it off... nope. So I say really? Excuse me but that's all Coke.
