I called in to get my brand new SUV and a pickup in for repair after the recent hail storm. The lady who answered was extremely unprofessional and did not listen to what I was saying. As soon as she heard hail damage she immediately started telling me they don't do hail estimates and told me to call my insurance and get estimates from them. I told her I already had an estimate from insurance and I was referred by a hail repair specialist to that shop for paint work. She continued telling me they don't do hail estimates. I don't know who trained this lady but she should not be taking phone calls. Your shop just lost 2 big money insurance repairs. read more

Amazing service. When my car was rear ended, hammers also found previous body work from an old accident before I bought the car. The previous body work was shoddy and compromised the whole rear frame of the car. They worked with insurance to repair the entire rear end and the new damage from the recent accident. They didn't have to do all that and could have just fixed the recent damage. Will always take my body work to hammers. read more

I was involved in a very minor collision with an impact so light, my passengers didn't know I'd struck anything. It was so minor that had my car not been brand new, I likely wouldn't have even bothered with repairing what amounted to a few scratches and scuffs. But I did, and chose Hammer's because they carried Ford certification. What a nightmare experience. I took my car up for an estimate, which I already had in hand from my insurance company, and they scheduled me for an appointment two weeks out and told me the repairs would likely take 3-5 days once I brought it in. I brought my car in on my appointed day and waited for word a few days later. And waited. And waited. Two weeks later, I finally called for an update and Derick, my estimator, told me that they were delayed because they had sent a supplemental estimate to my insurance company and were waiting for approval. I hung up and immediately contacted my estimator at my insurance company, who checked and said they'd received nothing from Hammer's. He said he would call and find out what was happening - so he did, and spoke to Derick, who informed him they would be sending it "very soon." So I was lied to directly, my insurance company blamed, and in reality, nothing had been done in two weeks. In fact, the next day I started getting notices on my Ford app of things not working - meaning THAT DAY, two weeks after I'd dropped it off for my appointment, is when they started taking my car apart to repair. The supplemental estimate was also hilariously inflated. I've included a photo of the damage done to my car, and this managed to take an estimated $1,200 repair job up to more than $4,500. The work itself was fine - my car looks new again and for that I am grateful. But the process to get there took 3+ weeks, lies, and thousands of dollars, and I'm confident I could have had quality work done without the headaches somewhere else. I took my truck to Hammer's after a lady was nice enough to back up in a parking lot and hit my truck. The damage to my truck from the parking lot incident affected the driver side fender, bumper, grill and driver side headlight. The damage incurred from taking my vehicle to Hammer's affected my driver-side taillight. Since the lady who hit my truck wouldn't even pay my deductible, I asked the folks at Hammer's to put any scrap metal in the bed of my truck so I could try to recoup part of my out-of-pocket expenses. While loading the bumper into my truck bed, somebody hit my driver-side taillight causing a crack and separation of the layers in the taillight. I called my representative at Hammer's once I noticed the damage and ask him if he could look into the incident and get back to me. I explained how I believed the damage was incurred and asked him to speak to the gentlemen working on my truck to see if somebody could have possibly, accidentally damaged my taillight. The gentleman I was dealing with took his sweet time looking into the incident and I had to call back twice to get any resolution on the matter. When I was finally able to speak to the gentleman about the damaged taillight, he would not admit any fault by any employees at Hammer's, but explained that the owner wanted to replace the taillight. Seems quite suspicious to me that the owner would insist on replacing such an expensive part if his employees were not responsible for the damage. Accusing somebody of lying is a very serious accusation that I do not take lightly; however, I am absolutely convinced that the people at Hammer's would rather lie than admit wrongdoing. I would've had a lot more respect for them if they would have just admitted they made a mistake and I probably would have been a return customer as well. read more

High/Low: Shop staff: Dishonest and difficult. Shop ethics: Their negligence almost got me severely hurt or killed and they refuse to make it right. Things the shop actually fixed: good. Let me preface this long review by saying that I have zero issue with the quality of the work PERFORMED. However, other circumstances have led me to have just an awful time with this shop, and if you'd like to know why take a look at my review below. There are two components to this review, the short and the long. The short is below and the long is on other review websites. The Short Slid off into ditch, had car taken to shop. Shop seemed friendly and reasonable enough. Hammer's refuses to work with insurance adjuster until I intervene. I grease the wheels and three months later I pick up what I think to be a perfect, reconditioned car. I drive off the lot and am satisfied. Over the next few months, I hear odd sounds and have a little extra vibration. I attribute this to the idea that "Once it's wrecked it'll never truly be the same". I finally have enough of the sounds and vibrations to take the car to a tire shop assuming it's a tire issue. They take the tire off the wheel and find an enormous dent and a small crack in the wheel. I then go back to insurance and hammers to see if they can make this right. They both refuse and I try to gather evidence to convince once of them to fix it. In the process I remove a balancing weight from the wheel and find out that there is another huge crack in the wheel. Something that could have cause my wheel to shatter if I were to hit the right pothole and putting me in grave danger every time I drove. Despite having a direct quote from an estimator at Hammer's saying "How could we have missed this? That kind of damage only happens in a high-impact wreck like you guys had" Hammers tells me that since I have no viable proof that it was from the wreck that I'm responsible for covering the cost of a new $1,800 wheel. Lesson learned, never trust what the shop says or does. Always verify everything yourself. I will say that Hammer's did tell us that if we submitted an insurance claim they would help us, however that just legitimizes their claims and forces me to bear the cost of the deductible, and the permanent increase in insurance costs. Even though they know that they should have caught the damage in the first place. read more

I had some work done on my 2015 civic si coupe, and mind you this is where I was suggested to take my car because they were " Honda certified" to work and fix Honda vehicles. Well they did a horrible job! Since I got my vehicle back from them, it's a year+ later, I have had several problems, not to mention my who front end including the doors and not lined properly! Nothing is matching up! When I took my car back to them, (because I went to wash it after getting it back and the H on the front grill starting spinning in circles) they tell me to hold on just a moment..... when they bring my car back, he says,"there you go, we slapped some glue back behind there! It should be good now!" WTF!!! My head unit cuts out on my just whenever, my remote start has been acting up, my cooling system is not right and I have paint chipping off the front driver fender! read more

My original estimate was $1,800 and a one or two day repair. My latest estimate is $4,400 and they've had my vehicle for almost two weeks. I get the extra cost to repair, but the time it's taking is not acceptable. They admit it themselves. Their excuse: "the parts supplier keeps sending us the wrong parts. As soon as they send the right ones, you'll get your vehicle back same day". That was 3 shipments from the parts supplier ago. This place has a good reputation but is an absolute total joke. I highly recommend avoiding this place at all costs. I would give 0 stars but it's not an option. read more

My brand new 2015 mustang GT fender was hit by a panel that fell off of an RV driving in front of me on the freeway. The only significant damage was the front fender on the passenger's side had popped out slightly (see included photo). This business was recommended to me by the dealership I purchased it from. I went to see them about it and within literally seconds of looking at it, they told me I needed to purchase a brand new bumper, pay for it to be painted, and pay for it to be installed. The components that secure the fender to the car were not damaged, only one small plastic ring that a screw goes through was cracked. I decided to get an estimate anyway. They quoted $770. I asked if there were any other options besides getting the entire thing replaced because of 1 small plastic ring that seemed as though it could easily be fixed and the rest that was intact be re-secured. They told me replacement was the only option. I then asked if there was something they could do to make it look less noticeable until it was repaired. He agreed to look at it and acted as though he was going to make a good faith effort to help me, however, all he did was try to line it up and smash the fender into the space under the side panel by bashing it with his hand over and over, causing further stress and distortion of the fender with no success. I didn't feel comfortable with that so I went just down the street to Maaco. I presented my situation to them in the same manner. One of their employees came out with some tools to see if he could improve its appearance and took an honest look at the situation via a careful inspection without banging or doing things to torque or damage the fender. He explained to me that if I wanted it repaired instead of replaced, they had a very strong adhesive that would seal the break in the ring, replace the screw, and since the other honeycomb clips were in tact, they would be able to clip them back in. I brought it back to Maaco the next day. In less than 30 minutes, they fixed it, it looked PERFECT, and all they charged me was $25 for 1/2 hour of labor. It was completely flush with the side panel and it looked as though nothing had ever happened. I did a careful inspection of the area and everything was replaced appropriately. I pushed and pulled on the fender and it did not come unseated or pop out. The issue I have with Hammer's is that they didn't even provide an option for repair; they insisted it had to be replaced and could not be repaired when, in fact, it could have easily been repaired. They could have just been honest and told me they weren't willing to do a repair. Telling me it can't be repaired is much different from telling me you are not willing to repair it. Secondly, I don't have much faith in a body shop that can't repair a small plastic ring and who's answer to a miniscule amount of damage is simply a total, 100% replacement. Instead of making a good faith attempt to look at the fittings and the situation to temporarily re-fit the fender (or even just say they didn't feel comfortable doing that), they just banged on it and I consider myself lucky that didn't break it completely. This experience leaves me certain that they're more concerned with forcing people into the most expensive option simply to line their pockets instead of actually doing the right thing by a customer if there's more money to be gotten out of them. read more

I've had work done by Hammer's twice now. The first time being in '06. The door being repainted turned out having bad orange peel in a few places. Recently I took my vehicle back for a second repair on a tailgate which turned out great and I had them fix my prior issues from '06 via their warrantee. In the process three scratches were put in that same door and they wanted to give it back to me that way. I didn't accept it and made them fix their screw up. They repainted the entire door and it now has terrible orange peel ALL OVER the door and two brand new door dings on the opposite side of the vehicle. Needless to say after the whole process I threw my hands up in the air, as I'm tired of messing with them, and walked away. The craftsmanship needs to step up a notch and more care needs to be taken not to further damage a customer's vehicle. read more

Let me preface by saying I am INCREDIBLY impatient. As in, everything and anything should have been completed by yesterday. Hammer's was SUPER patient with me, and answered all million questions I could come up with while our Silverado 2500 was being repaired after an accident. My husband had banged it up pretty good, doing over 10k worth of damage. We had the truck back within 3 weeks and it drives and looks better than it did before the accident. Nathan, our adviser, explained the processes of everything and did his best to make me feel like I knew what was going on. They handled State Farm, who was awful, BTW, and did an amazing job. Hammers repaired my truck and when I got it. Ack the front bumper was only halfway bolted on, still had damage that had not been repaired correctly, had junk car parts in the bed of the truck that did not even belong to my truck, and had a gouge in the paint which they just clear coated over that was not there originally. Took it back for some of the stuff reconciled but the fact that they used my truck like a dumpster and scratched my paint in another spot and didn't even fix it correctly is pretty sad!! I will never darken their door again and suggest you do the same. Your better off to fix it yourself! read more

After calling hammers, i was in disbelief at what they had quoted me. Other shops quotes ranged from $4500-$6000, the quote i received from hammers was for $15,000. *note, not sure of their work quality, but their prices are outrageous compared to everyone else. I only went here to get an estimate but I was not anywhere near pleased with the results. Got an estimate for a dent in my bumper and it was over $1100. They said it needed to be completely replaced and a bunch of other crap. Went to Maaco and they popped the bump out and did a fantastic job for only $150. Seems like a total rip off. I would highly recommend going a mile down the road to Maaco and ask for bob to do an estimate. read more

Hammer's Autoworks has changed. They used to be the go to body shop in Springfield but seems they might be falling on some financial issues for them to start forgetting the importance of the customer and cutting corners. My last two vehicles that I have brought there has been having paint issues. One so bad the clear coat is coming off in blisters all over the front. I had an extensive repair job done and not only was the whole experience a nightmare but they didn't even use parts that the Insurance company paid them for nor provided any credit, just pocketed the money. When I asked about the issues, I was told that my insurance company doesn't pay that well and they had to put items on the work order as unforeseen damage to collect more money even though they never replaced some parts, said it was the grey area in the business. I wish I never had them do the work as I still have issues to this day, constantly finding things that they neglected. Then they told me that they should of never took on the job as it was too much for their shop. If you are looking for a body shop, do yourself a favor and pass this shop and move on, they are going downhill and you don't want your vehicle to fall victim to their subpar work and a crooked business. Yes, they state they have a warranty, but who in their right mind would want this place to touch your vehicle again if they screwed it up the first time.
