What I loved the most was the flaky crust--so good! The salad is pretty standard, but it was fresh and crisp. The ranch dressing is fabulous, homemade, and made the salad delicious. The lunch portion of chicken fried chicken I received was on the large side. It was seasoned very well, and I loved the seasonings. The meat was so tender and juicy! I know I got my food just a few minutes after the it was fried. It couldn't have been more fresh. The star of my meal was the mashed red potatoes and gravy. They actually cook and mash real potatoes. It is so hard to find this when dining out. They used the perfect amount of salt. It's been a long time since I have not added salt to my meal but I didn't need to here. So I'm taking the time to leave a review because I had a different experience than what I was expecting. I am gluten-free and also meat free and they were super nice about the whole thing. My waitress was gluten-free and she was amazingly helpful. Her name is Ashlee. I had the Cobb salad and substituted the chicken that I couldn't eat into more eggs and she suggested if I wanted a dessert that she could give me scoops of the filling and the topping and I wouldn't have to deal with the crust issue of having gluten. We were in town for an athletic event and needed a place that had some gluten free options. So happy we chose here. My mother had the salmon salad while my dad had the Cobb Salad. They both really enjoyed them. My daughter and I had burgers. They were so good and cooked to perfection. Also, I love it when I can put a fried egg on my burger. My other daughter really enjoyed her fried chicken strips. The young woman who served us was so kind and friendly. A friend and I had lunch there last week. She got the pecan crusted chicken salad and I had the steak finger basket. They gave us free cinnamon rolls. They do this until the rolls are gone. We were happy with our lunch. I also got a large salad. I was impressed with the steak fingers. They were cut into thin pieces. and lightly breaded. They were very good and the breading stayed on. I also had thin French fries. We both were happy with the food. One thing puzzled us which was the server didn't return all of our change. This is THE happening place in the area on Saturday nights! This is a local classic with very good food. I had the pecan chicken salad with BBQ vinaigrette dressing. The menu posted on line has several things they do not have on current menu. We were looking for meatless meals on Friday during Lent. On the online menu there is a whole seafood tab, but at the restaurant only fried catfish or a piece of salmon on a salad. Salad was good. But disappointing that the website is so out of sync with what they have. Soup of the day on the menu was not the soup of the day I overheard from another table half way through salmon salad. OMG, just finished dinner at Hammett House. Who is this new owner? Everything has changed for worse! No Pampered chicken except on Sundays, I ordered chicken fried steak, wife had chicken fried chicken,, both have dropped in size, steak is definitely not the same cut as b4, frozen patty. Dinner salad and mashed potatoes are still good, pie for dessert is not nearly as good, guess their baker left with the old owner. Wait staff all seemed to be standing around except one guy he was busy spinning a drink tray on one finger. Our server was polite but he seemed out of his zone. I think this is one of those places that might be cruising on past heydays. It's heavily promoted and once inside they are constantly promoting themselves on well made commercials that repeat all around the dining room. The service was friendly and fast. But all the food was rather ordinary. I had a cup of vegitable soup, it was bland, over cooked but made ok with, salt pepper and hot sauce. Then I ordered a burger and fries and it was ok, for a $5 dollar lunch, but not for a $20 dollar lunch. Fries were limp and sort of cold, with that taste of when they had been sitting around too long. The burger was dry and tasteless and over cooked. The roll was hard and too thick. I ended up just eating the meat and vegetables out of the burger with a fork. My wife had ordered the onion rings, she often does wherever we go and has quality expectations, especially if you're bragging about them. These looked pretty and were large but were in a tasteless batter and the onions where sliced too think to cook and were not tender at all. Ok, so they really advertise that this is a great desert place and brag about the pies so maybe the food was just ok but the pies were going to be great? Nope. I had an apple pie, the apples were undercooked, drowing in too much pie jell and heavy on the corn syrup but lite on the spices that make a great apple pie. The crust was not winning any contests either. The pie my wife ordered were along the lines of those ¢0.79 grocery store hand pies with bad pudding, lots of sugar and soggy crust. In the end this was a nearly $50 dollar lunch with tip but really was a $15 dollar lunch for two. Too bad, the place is charming and the staff deserve better food to serve. read more

Tried the cobb salad and it was super satisfying. The avocado was creamy, the bacon crispy, and the egg was cooked just right. I added grilled shrimp and it went really well with the rest of the salad. Dressing was served on the side which I appreciate. Everything came out quickly and the staff was really helpful. After almost 3 years living here in Claremore And very finally eaten at the much hyped Hammett House. My friend and aI ate here on Sunday, March 31, 2024. I was so hungry after a bisy Sunday and was pleasantly surprised to see they had a veggie burger on the menu. I asked our waiter if it was good, he said he hadn't personally tried it but other people who hd as commented they liked it, so I got it with a side of the steak fries. My friend got their Caesar salad with chicken and a side of friend okra. I really should have taken pictures, but I was so hungry I forgot! The burger was huge! Comes with lettuce, tomato, and onions the kicker is instead of a plain old tomato it's a green fried tomato! The burger was delicious and it and the fries were piping hot! Not the best veggie burger I've ever had, but for Claremore, I think it was a real win! My friend wasn't so pleased with his chicken Caesar salad. Mostly the chicken aspect of his salad. The salad itself the lettuce and everyhting outside of the chicken was good. However, I couldn't give 5 stars because the chicken was cold, pale, and tasteless. He asked for an extra piece of chicken on the salad but we don't believe he received that but it didn't matter since the chicken was so bad. We thought that it would be a couple nice pieces of GRILLED chicken. Not cold tasteless chicken. That was a real disappointment. I know everyone raves about the pies but we didn't have room and we aren't big on sweets. Overall, customer service was good and everything but that chicken was good. This is a great place for lunch. Kingen was our server and you could ask for a better one we had chicken fried steak and graveyard it comes with a soup or salad. I had the pink thing Salad and it was excellent with little garlic flavor. Believe me it was pink which was cool. My site was onion ring which were whole made. And I couldn't eat all of it. They were fantastic,crispy and large. I ended with chocolate pie. They are famous for pies and you get a 10% discount if you order at the beginning of the meal. So much for a casual relaxing dinner. The entree arrived before I could finish half of my soup. The jumbo shrimp were good, although there were only five shrimp (so about $4-5 per shrimp). I left a gift card to pay the check while I went to the restroom. When I returned my table was being cleared. So I left a tip and left. Taking a break today from the Jalapeno Highway to enjoy cooler plates of food in a cooler restaurant. The iconic Hammett House was up next on the list. A classic diner that is as much a famous part of Claremore as is the J. M. Davis gun museum. The restaurant opened in 1969. A Turkey Avocado Club, with waffle fries for my wife and a Chicken Fried Chicken Sandwich with fries for me. The Turkey Avocado Club was a very attractive plate of food. The large sandwich was loaded with fresh ingredients, a liberal portion of waffle fries filled the remaining space on the plate. My Chicken Fried Chicken Sandwich with steak fries was exactly what I wanted, A basic crispy chicken sandwich. Both were fair, but shared a similar defect. They needed lubrication. A big slather of mayonnaise would have helped the dry bread and chicken breast slide down the esophagus. My wife said the same about her club sandwich. Neither sandwich had any type of dressing. Nothing to help bring out the flavor, just meat, bread and fresh vegetables. Perhaps you have to ask for mayo. The sandwiches need it. A more traditional diner type meal would be a better choice here, than the sandwiches. The service was friendly / adequate. read more

It's been awhile since my wife and I ate at the Hammett house in Clearmore. So we though we would give it another visit. We arrived around 12:30 for lunch. There usually ample parking. However the parking lot was almost full. We were greeted at the front and led to a table. The restaurant was as full as the parking lot. I ordered the chili cheeseburger with onion rings. My wife ordered a cheeseburger with fries. Like happens so much of the time we ate about half our meal before I remembered to take pictures. I recommend this restaurant; not only for lunch but dinner as well. I also recommend a big slice of pie for dessert. read more

My family had been coming to this place here and there over the course of my life in Claremore, and throughout most of it it was fine. But within the last few years something has gone seriously wrong. One visit I'd ordered fish and it tasted like mud, as if the fish were straight from a lake and not even cooked, and it went uneaten because it was entirely unappetizing, with my young niece who ordered the same feeling the exact same way. Others tried it, and everyone agreed and they had issues with their own food as well, but it was agreed upon the fish was just unjustifiable. The next time around I got a burger, because you can't miss with a burger, right? Well, something with this burger was just very wrong, and the scent and taste of it was just as off-putting and foul as the fish was the time before. Both trips the rest of the family were equally underwhelmed, the only saving grace is that despite the surprising state of the entrees, the fried onion was actually quite good. Fortunate turn of events, as it turned out to be the only thing I was able to eat both time, but I can't exactly add too much because a single appetizer is done well. The place has history, it just needs to identify what went wrong along the way and adjust appropriately to fix the issue. read more
