This is a really cute place. It's a small, short, sweet, and simple activity to do with kids or as a date. They offer free tours, which involves watching a short clip about the history of Hammond and then watching the employees work through a looking glass. It was neat learning about this candy business; I've never heard about it. I love learning origin stories because it gives me an idea of the company's values. I think it's amazing that they HAND MAKE all their candies. They have cute paper hats that you can wear. In addition, there are some areas for good photo opportunities. After the tour, you are gifted with a candy cane! You are then led into their candy store. You obviously don't have to purchase anything, but to complete the experience, it doesn't hurt to walk away with some chocolate. (: I'm not from Colorado, so I'm not sure if the prices were cheaper or more expensive than the grocery store (I'm going to assume more expensive). Regardless, we did buy some things. I got a Hammond chocolate bar, some discounted chocolate from their clearance section, and their popular Mitchell Sweets. The Mitchell sweet is $2 for a small packet! My husband liked it, but I thought it was extremely sweet and I only took the tiniest bite. I feel like that little packet can go a long way because of the sweetness. They charge $0.10 for a bag. I didn't want to pay for a bag, so I just used my paper hat as a tray. lol Overall, I did enjoy the visit. It's so nice they have a free tour but it's just okay - 10 minute video and then 10 minutes of looking through glass panels at the workers making candy. What they work on varies throughout the year so it may not look the same if you come multiple times. The best part is getting a full-size piece of candy at the end - we got candy canes (maybe that's what it always is?). You end the your at the candy store which is nice but mostly overpriced. If you only want the candy you can go to a Lolli Pops store - they were acquired by Hammond's and now sell the same goodies at their stores. In short, kind of fun to do but wouldn't go out of my way to do this. Best if paired with something else nearby which is what we did, a playground not too far away (there isn't much very close to the factory). read more

What a great little candy shop venture if you happen to be in Denver, CO. We booked our tour online but today you could have shown up and been fine. We arrived a bit after 1 pm for a 1:15 PM tour. They announce the tour start over the loud speaker. The tour is about 30 minutes long. We got lucky and saw how the huge vat of candy is poured out and flavors added. We also saw the candy get pulled. A nice lady in packaging made hearts with her candy canes and came to the window with a huge smile and wave. We received a large candy cane at the end of the tour. You have to watch a video about history first. we didn't actually get to finish the tour where you see the candy being made because we had our two younger kids that was getting antsy. We spent about 160 on candy here, and the first couple we got weren't that spectacular. I expected to be blown away a little more. Some tasted stale/too hard/old. Hammonds was bought out in 2024, and their customer service and product line has gone to heck in a handbasket. I have shopped at Hammonds since 2002 when I moved to Denver and found their handmade candies a must gift at Christmas time. Even after having moved from Denver in 2015 I have continued to order for holiday giving for myself and my business. This year I again placed an order, many of the classic items were not available or repackaged. I ordered a few things I hadn't ordered in the past and upon inspection found the items actually were mis-labeled (the items I received in a sealed commercial package) where the item was not as pictured OR described on the package, and the expiration dates were a few weeks away. The website did not indicate these were 'seconds' and blatant mis-labeling could be a health hazard. Upon writing the company (and expecting a refund on this very small portion of my order, even if they wanted the product back. Instead, I received a reply from Allison that pretty much said, too bad. The sell by date being less than a month away was within the usable lifetime and no mention that they were described inaccurately. I'm sorry to lose a trusted local business that has made the holidays special for so long. read more

It's so nice to know that a free factory tour still exists! I've been here before but never with the 2 and 4 year olds. The tour starts with a 10 minute video that gives the history of the candy founder and an overview of how everything is still handmade by the 300 employees. Then there's a walk through the viewing areas overlooking the factory. The whole process is very interesting and the tour was short enough to keep the littles entertained. At the end, each person gets a giant candy cane as a sample and the tour let's out into the store. There's a fudge/chocolate counter where our guide, Erik, boxed up our purchases. I was not aware Hammond's was so close to home. I actually received a few samples in a recent large Yelp event at the Stanley Marketplace and really loved their chocolate covered biscuit/biscotti and their lemon cake... decided to look them up and realized they offer free tours on site. It's really nice to see that this candy place has been a Denver staple for so many years and will def be on the top of my list when I'm looking for local treats to bring friends. I remember getting a gift box from work that was shipped to me from California and one of the items inside was Hammond's caramel. LOL! The tour was fantastic and we got to see how the candy was completely hand made. If you're looking for something unique to do while you're in Denver, a visit to the Hammond's Candies factory - where they're still whipping up old-school candy the old-fashioned way - is just what the doctor ordered. Before you visit, make sure to book a ticket to do the 30-minute factory tour (where you'll receive a piece of candy at the end). The tour is free, but due to space, ticket reservations are required. This is a really cute and fun little tour! I will probably go again at some point. Funny thing is that I don't eat a lot of candy. It's still cool to look at all the stuff and shop in the store! Go online to book a spot. Pro tip: you definitely want to grab food from the diner that's right over there (Red Rooster Cafe) and you can walk to Hammond's from the diner, no need to move your car. Check their open times if you should go before or after your tour. They give you a cheesy little hat and you do get to see the process of making candy. So much sugarrrrrr!!! The store at the end had some really interesting stuff inside! Check my pics. Also, find the clearance section, it's one small spot but you can snag some good deals as a lot of the stuff is pricey! Did you know that Hammond's Candies makes Christmas Candy Canes for Target under the WonderShop name? I saw lots of boxes here labeled for Target! The tour & parking is free! There's ample parking for the tour groups of 45 people. I was so happy that the day I went, there were maybe 15 of us. A nice small group! It's important to reserve your spot prior to showing up since the tour could be full when you hope to go. You can either call them or go to their website to reserve your date and time. Each tour lasts about 30 minutes. Each of us got a Candy Cane as we exited the tour. In the shop is where you'll check-in for your tour. Then, when called, they will escort you to the little theater for a 10 minute video presentation. Then the guide tells you what the staff are working on. Every piece of candy is made by hand and packaged and labeled by hand! They make Candy Canes, Chocolates, Chocolate Bars, Lolliipops, Brittle, Piggybacks (similar to Turtles), and so much more! You can buy "Oops" candies at a discounted price. They also have sales on various things. I bought a little Ribbon Candy, it is larger, but looks the same as my Grandmother used to keep in the candy jar at Christmas! I also got some Licorice (not for me!) & some Ginger Hard Drop Candies. I regretted not trying any of their chocolates. I happened to see some Hammond Chocolate Bars at a local grocery store and picked up a Pigs N Taters - it was so good! Savory & sweet together! I took my 2 year old in the free tour last week and we had such a fun time. It was very easy to make our reservation online and the factory was easy to find, with plenty of free parking. Our tour guide was very nice and full of information. It was really cool to see how the candy is made and to learn the history- I had no idea that it they put all of the attention into it that they do or that the whole process is still mainly done by hand! At the end of the tour we were each give a slightly broken candy cane. My son got a birthday cake flavored one, and while I was initially suspicious of the flavor, I have to say it was delicious. Of course you exit the tour through the candy shop, and since I learned on the tour that they sell their slightly imperfect candies at a discount, we stocked up on the oopsies. They're just for us abs they taste great. At 2, my son may have been a little young for the tour, and there was a bit of whining while we were on it. Hammond's makes alot of great quality candies. I wasn't able to visit the actual store . But I did order some chocolate bars from Hammond's just recently. The chocolate bars were amazing, especially the banana crunch. Even though the banana crunch was my favorite. The other candy bars were good as well, and was made with good quality chocolate. Fast forward two months later, I just used these fun and delicious​ chocolate Dunking Spoons last night for a romantic NYE holiday date night-in I created for my incredible Hubby. We sat by the fire and had so much fun dunking these chocolate​ "spoons" on-a-stick into our marshmallow-filled​ hot chocolate​s. We liked that the chocolate squares didn't instantly dissolve, but softened just enough so we could enjoy liking the softened warm chocolate off the "spoon". The tiny specks of peppermint​ pieces are a nice adder too. These Dunking Spoons are definitely fun and add an extra nice touch to hot chocolate. I took my daughter's Girl Scout troop for a tour here and the girls loved it. The tour starts with a video that was entertaining for a bunch of first graders, which is saying a lot. Afterwards you get to go in the back to view the production room, and watching the candy canes get stretched out and shaped was super fun. They all got a free treat at the end as well. After the tour you end up in the shop, and I think every family left with something. It was hard to retain what he was saying. There were only 2 rooms to observe. 75% of the candy in the store wasn't even made at the factory. And the candy we saw being made wasn't in stock. I found out about this free tour online and was able to easily book spots for my husband and I. We arrived 15 minutes early which gave us time to check out their store and try a truffle. After seeing Hammond's candy around local Denver shops, I was excited to finally make a trip to the factory in-person. Hooray!!! Cue inner Charlie and the Chocolate Factory moment! The shop is a little odd to find (at least for me)- but if you follow your GPS and signage, you should be fine. It's situated in the back of an industrial center, with an unmistakable jolly, red man (Santa!) hanging from the roof. Their candy canes are incredibly high-quality. We got a few handfuls of peppermint (shhh- I know what everyone is getting with their Christmas gift!), some popcorn, and vanilla marshmallows. Pro tip- put the jumbo marshmallow in a hot cup of cocoa for the ultimate hot chocolate. read more

I love local businesses and candy so Hammond's is best of both worlds! The tour is so informative about how much work and care goes into their handmade candies. Seeing it in person is even more amazing! Every time I take this tour, I wonder if they have openings lol Their store is such a treat! They have all their goodies and in the "Oops room," you can find their opps candies at a discounted price - they taste the same, but they just don't look up to par. Great! I'll take it!!
