I appeared at the property for a scheduled move-in orientation at 10:00 AM and was told, only after I arrived, that my application had not been approved and that the orientation had been canceled. No one notified me before the appointment. The issue is not that additional review was required. The issue is that the property allowed me to show up for an orientation that could not take place and failed to communicate that fact in advance. As a professional and business owner, I value clear communication and respect for people's time. Unfortunately, I experienced neither. Based on my experience, prospective residents should make sure they have written confirmation of final approval before rearranging their schedules or making plans based on information provided by the leasing office.

All interactions that I have had with the buildings management staff has been pleasant, professional and accommodating. On the rare occasion I need a service call, it is answered promptly by experienced personal who resolve the matter quickly and efficiently. As a mom I know how difficult it can be finding lead free and dog friendly apartments in this area. CRL is the answer for families with pets as well as many working professionals because of its prime location. There is a trail a few steps from here perfect for dog walking or just to relax. Hope to see many new friends at the pool next summer.

Had I not needed to re-locate, I would easily re-sign a lease here for several reasons. 1. Lina is very attentive and responsive to any and all service requests. She always responded to requests within 24 hours and work was always completed within 2-3 business days. Sometimes we had work completed on the apartment within hours of submitting the request through the online portal. 2. Payments for rent are very easy and all done through a central online application (AppFolio). You can pay from your phone or through the web portal. You can also send in maintenance requests from this portal. 3. The surrounding neighborhoods and our neighbors were great! We wished that we had more of a chance to explore Somerville, but due to COVID we spent a lot of time in our apartment. That being said, our rooms were very large and we had plenty of space in the common areas to do work during the day. Our porch was also a great place to eat meals. All-in-all the living space was great and it really felt like home away from home.

The building is located right on the city line between Charlestown and Somerville, which means you get easy access to both locations, but it's kind of a weird in-between neighborhood that can't quite figure out what it wants to be. However, more and more businesses opened up over the years, and the orange line T station is directly behind the building, so you have no shortage of things to do. I personally loved the location because it's a bit quieter and you don't have to pick between Somerville/Cambridge and Boston, but if you want a completely walkable neighborhood, I'd look elsewhere. The building itself is nice and well maintained, but because the rent is a bit lower, you're not going to get the luxury gyms, pools, community rooms, etc. you might see at other big Boston buildings. It's modest, but it has everything you need. There's a little playground and dog park directly across from the building. Covered parking is available in the garage for an extra fee (again WAY cheaper than in downtown Boston). I also have to give a shout out to the maintenance team at Mezzo--every issue I ever had was resolved same day. The leasing office team also does a great job planning resident-appreciation events and activities every month. I had a unit overlooking the courtyard (which is lovely in the Spring and Summer) and the massive floor to ceiling windows (every unit has them) were always one of my favorite things. The walls are also so thick, our neighbor was always blasting music and you could only hear it when you were in the hallway, never from inside the apartment itself. The only downsides in my opinion: storage was pretty limited with only one closet in my unit, and as many of the other reviews here mentioned, trash piles up on every floor of the garage each week. Being close to the T also means a decent amount of foot traffic at night and it's a little rough around the edges. I always felt pretty safe and would walk my dog alone at night, but you do hear some stories and it's best to keep your wits about you. Overall, Mezzo is a great place to live, moving out was definitely bittersweet, and I'll miss a lot about this place. Just don't expect top-tier luxury from a building where you aren't paying for it and you won't be disappointed!

After nearly four years at Mezzo Design Lofts, I reflecting how our experience has evolved and…read morehighlight two distressing events that posed a threat to residents' health, safety and security. Once you start comparing similar-priced apartments, you'll see you won't get your money's worth at Mezzo. The building has a garage that doesn't always open on the first few tries driving back and forth to the sensor - even after a new system was installed. Despite the package locker system they advertise, your items can be left in the hall, in the loading dock or outside the building. And you'll walk past overflowing trash bins in the garage and outside the building on a regular basis. Even after meeting with management about these issues in February, they have not been resolved at the time of writing this. It should not be the residents' job to police and report communal problems affecting the building. However, after two first-rate staff members Paul and Rob left their positions here, that has become the norm. (Don't get me wrong, I can live with those minor annoyances. There are much bigger problems in the world. It just seems weird that we're paying for them.) The deal breaker for me was a serious lapse in communication following reports of a resident running down the halls with a potentially dangerous weapon in the middle of the night. Despite repeated requests to Lincoln Property Company's local and regional management for reassurance of our safety, they argued that it was not their responsibility to send out any apartment-wide messages per their privacy policy. They maintained that perspective even after emergency personnel were stationed in the parking lot the following day and police were on the property again the next week. Their response that they followed "normal protocols" felt like they were more interested in protecting the company than protecting us. That same week, Mezzo hired landscapers, unannounced to residents, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. They clustered in front of the building without masks or maintaining distancing guidelines. The governor's order on essential businesses at the time permitted landscaping for "the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences." Tending to the flower beds does not contribute to resident safety and instead increased our risk of exposure. Mezzo chose to prioritize the look of their property over resident safety and city guidelines. When asked to be directed to supervisors regarding this issue, the property manager informed us she would "not be escalating anything because there is no issue." However, after a quick call to 311 about the governor's guidelines, they opened a case and asked me to report any further incidents. Mezzo advertises itself as a "community you can call home," but while you're here, you'll learn it's best to butter up to management and humor their gossiping about residents. Don't bat an eye when they complain about hosting resident events and tell you that tenants should think of better ideas. Get comfortable with a resident manager who will tell you to wait to use the community room you pay for each month so he can finish a personal call. After an exhausting several months keeping track of possible lease violations, threats to resident safety, and management's apathy to getting our money's worth, we decided to save our money and leave. As is their MO based on phone calls and back-and-forths over email, they'll insist that proper steps have been taken to ensure residents' wellbeing. They'll deny claims of unhelpful and unfriendly management. My efforts working with Mezzo to try to improve our experience has been met with false promises, denial and poor leadership, which doesn't instill confidence in me that they'll fix these or future residents' concerns.

After Dana left, the consistent responding from management ended and I had to contact the Brookfield Properties general email twice because I could not get responses from the 91 Sidney St. managers. In November 2019, our heat broke and would not work consistently. We sent a maintenance request for it to be fixed. Torrey assured us that he was trying everything that he could to fix our heat, and sent out the poor maintenance people (who are VERY nice and awesome but are just not HVAC people and did not know how to fix our heat) several times to fiddle with our heat. We sent email after email, getting sporadic responses from Torrey and spending the winter in several layers of sweatshirts and pants. Finally, on FEBRUARY 24th 2020, I could not take it anymore. I sent an email to Brookfield properties letting them know that I would withhold my rent until our heat was fixed and that the Cambridge Housing Authority was sending out an inspector. I received a call the next day from Jamie saying that the heat would be fixed immediately. I am still so confused as to why we had to wait so long for something that seemed like a quick fix. PLEASE be careful if you decide to live here. Especially if you have small children, pets, or someone who is elderly. Besides freezing, we were okay, but I would be nervous for someone who is not perfectly healthy.

It's one of the newer buildings…read more Pros: Location: It's located near the MIT graduate dorms so it has easily accessible transportation: #1, #70, #70A, EZ Ride, and MIT Shuttles. Also within walking distance to Central. Prices: So the prices for the 1 bedroom has come down significantly. Now, the 580 sq ft bedroom are on the market for about $1700!!! When I was looking around Feb, the prices were around $2100. I'm guessing the referral fee is around $750 because that's the referral fee for 100 Landsdowne. Gym: 91 Sidney has the full machines available. The gym is accessible to other residents within the University Park system though. Parking: If you sign up on the first day, you park at this deck for $100. If you live at KBL or Loft23, parking is also assigned to this deck. Cons: View: The view from the 1 bedroom is pretty ugly. I think I saw bricks. There are no good views from the 1 bedroom apartments as far as I can tell.

First and foremost, if you intend on having any unexpected life changes I would suggest a different complex. MetroMark makes you sign a 90 (NINETY) Day Lease Break agreement, and I fairly certain when you are breaking a lease you generally do not know THREE months ahead of time that you are breaking this lease. In my case it is that I was offered a job on the west coast. Secondly, they also do not allow subletting. So even if you find a suitable person to take over your lease, they won't allow it. You also are not allowed to add a roommate until your lease is over - so couples looking to potentially move in together please be aware of this. Lastly, they will not work with you on the renewal amounts. This renewal cycle they wanted to raise my rent $450 - and while the potential new renter I had in line was willing to sign the renewal if they met him halfway, I was told that the amounts were as they stand. Yes, it is a pet friendly community, but most people don't pick up after their dogs (I am a dog owner and while I appreciate the available dog bags people rarely use them). The only reason this is a two star and not a one star because I am frankly very angry they are not willing to work with their residents when it comes to life changing events, is the cleaning staff is very kind and do their best to keep the building clean. Do with this review what you will, but please make sure you take a look at your leases before you sign them - especially since this place has shown they're just in it for the money grab. Ask for a lease example for any place you apply to and make sure the terms fit what you are looking for, because frankly if the last three years have taught us anything, you never know what life throws you and I suggest finding a more sympathetic apartment complex.

I ended up having to find a place in Boston from afar (and then move sight unseen) and was able to easily browse open apartments on their website and then work with a staff person to get photos of the place I'd eventually live in and secure a lease. Moving in was super easy--I think I just paid a $250 deposit apart from first month's rent--as was moving out. I leased a one bedroom apartment while I lived here and it was clean and spacious. The bedroom was big (several feet to each wall on every side of a queen bed) and there was a walk in closet that had room for not only my dresser, but also storage space for plenty of boxes--lots of cabinet space in the kitchen and a coat closet in the main room, too. All of the appliances were new and nice and I only once had an appliance issue (an electrical problem with the dishwasher, which the staff fixed right away). I'd also never had a washer and dryer in an apartment before, so that felt like a luxury. All of the appliances were energy- and water-efficient, too, which was great. I lived on the sixth floor of my building on the side facing Washington Street and the bus depot. I never especially had street noise issues and only once had a noise problem with a neighbor. I also lived next to the elevator and never heard it. I will say that even facing mostly away from the train tracks, I heard (and felt) the trains constantly. It didn't especially bother me since I already slept with ear plugs in and my bedroom was carpeted, but I can see how it would be an annoyance for some. I always found the MetroMark staff to be polite, helpful and responsive (I most recently most often was in touch with Jaz in the office and Joel at the desk--both great people!). The one time I needed after hours maintenance help (small issue with my AC during the summer), Joel was super helpful. I did also think that the building management did an excellent job trying to keep residents safe and informed during the pandemic. I never really used the common spaces at the buildings, though they looked nice. I did find it a little odd that the TV lounges didn't have cable service, though the computer/study area did have good wifi and a printer. The one thing that I did use a bit was the gym--nice weights, treadmills and bikes, but it felt small sometimes for how many people were using it (especially at night). I never had a car in Boston and it was nice that the building had several Zip Cars in the parking lot, though I eventually preferred using the Enterprise rental location down Washington Street for longer trips. The location of the building and the neighborhood were both outstanding. I worked downtown and my commute door to door via the orange line was about 35-40 minutes. Jamaica Plain is a great neighborhood and having the expansive green spaces of the arboretum, Franklin Park and the Southwest Corridor so close was fantastic. South and Centre streets in JP are great little main streets with lots of good restaurants and bars and independent shops. One thing that I didn't love about my lease terms (though the language was very clear) was that the month to month option was extremely expensive. That said, I renewed my lease twice and my rent did not go up one dollar in three years, which was amazing to me.
