I lived at Mezzo for four years would definitely recommend the building to anyone who's looking for a pet-friendly, comfortable apartment, but doesn't want to shell out for a luxury building in downtown Boston. The building is located right on the city line between Charlestown and Somerville, which means you get easy access to both locations, but it's kind of a weird in-between neighborhood that can't quite figure out what it wants to be. However, more and more businesses opened up over the years, and the orange line T station is directly behind the building, so you have no shortage of things to do. I personally loved the location because it's a bit quieter and you don't have to pick between Somerville/Cambridge and Boston, but if you want a completely walkable neighborhood, I'd look elsewhere. The building itself is nice and well maintained, but because the rent is a bit lower, you're not going to get the luxury gyms, pools, community rooms, etc. you might see at other big Boston buildings. It's modest, but it has everything you need. There's a little playground and dog park directly across from the building. Covered parking is available in the garage for an extra fee (again WAY cheaper than in downtown Boston). I also have to give a shout out to the maintenance team at Mezzo--every issue I ever had was resolved same day. The leasing office team also does a great job planning resident-appreciation events and activities every month. I had a unit overlooking the courtyard (which is lovely in the Spring and Summer) and the massive floor to ceiling windows (every unit has them) were always one of my favorite things. The walls are also so thick, our neighbor was always blasting music and you could only hear it when you were in the hallway, never from inside the apartment itself. The only downsides in my opinion: storage was pretty limited with only one closet in my unit, and as many of the other reviews here mentioned, trash piles up on every floor of the garage each week. Being close to the T also means a decent amount of foot traffic at night and it's a little rough around the edges. I always felt pretty safe and would walk my dog alone at night, but you do hear some stories and it's best to keep your wits about you. Overall, Mezzo is a great place to live, moving out was definitely bittersweet, and I'll miss a lot about this place. Just don't expect top-tier luxury from a building where you aren't paying for it and you won't be disappointed! read more

After nearly four years at Mezzo Design Lofts, I reflecting how our experience has evolved and highlight two distressing events that posed a threat to residents' health, safety and security. Once you start comparing similar-priced apartments, you'll see you won't get your money's worth at Mezzo. The building has a garage that doesn't always open on the first few tries driving back and forth to the sensor - even after a new system was installed. Despite the package locker system they advertise, your items can be left in the hall, in the loading dock or outside the building. And you'll walk past overflowing trash bins in the garage and outside the building on a regular basis. Even after meeting with management about these issues in February, they have not been resolved at the time of writing this. It should not be the residents' job to police and report communal problems affecting the building. However, after two first-rate staff members Paul and Rob left their positions here, that has become the norm. (Don't get me wrong, I can live with those minor annoyances. There are much bigger problems in the world. It just seems weird that we're paying for them.) The deal breaker for me was a serious lapse in communication following reports of a resident running down the halls with a potentially dangerous weapon in the middle of the night. Despite repeated requests to Lincoln Property Company's local and regional management for reassurance of our safety, they argued that it was not their responsibility to send out any apartment-wide messages per their privacy policy. They maintained that perspective even after emergency personnel were stationed in the parking lot the following day and police were on the property again the next week. Their response that they followed "normal protocols" felt like they were more interested in protecting the company than protecting us. That same week, Mezzo hired landscapers, unannounced to residents, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. They clustered in front of the building without masks or maintaining distancing guidelines. The governor's order on essential businesses at the time permitted landscaping for "the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences." Tending to the flower beds does not contribute to resident safety and instead increased our risk of exposure. Mezzo chose to prioritize the look of their property over resident safety and city guidelines. When asked to be directed to supervisors regarding this issue, the property manager informed us she would "not be escalating anything because there is no issue." However, after a quick call to 311 about the governor's guidelines, they opened a case and asked me to report any further incidents. Mezzo advertises itself as a "community you can call home," but while you're here, you'll learn it's best to butter up to management and humor their gossiping about residents. Don't bat an eye when they complain about hosting resident events and tell you that tenants should think of better ideas. Get comfortable with a resident manager who will tell you to wait to use the community room you pay for each month so he can finish a personal call. After an exhausting several months keeping track of possible lease violations, threats to resident safety, and management's apathy to getting our money's worth, we decided to save our money and leave. As is their MO based on phone calls and back-and-forths over email, they'll insist that proper steps have been taken to ensure residents' wellbeing. They'll deny claims of unhelpful and unfriendly management. My efforts working with Mezzo to try to improve our experience has been met with false promises, denial and poor leadership, which doesn't instill confidence in me that they'll fix these or future residents' concerns. read more

Pros: less than a 2 min walk to the T, huge layout, awesome and responsive staff, sound proof windows (you wouldn't know it was next to Sullivan Sq T Station), quiet neighbors, covered parking, trash chutes, regular improvements, a playground & dog park, cleaners, prompt response from staff, overnight guard, safe! Cons: if you're lazy like me, Mezzo is not within walking distance to much. If you don't mind a walk, ignore this. read more

We LOVE it at Mezzo! The apartment has wonderful, modern finishes and it's quiet. You never hear noises from the neighboring units. There are stainless steel appliances and even a filtered water tap in the fridge. We love having an energy efficient washer & dryer unit in our apartment. The shower pressure is the BEST hands down. It feels like a spa hotel. Water is also included in your rent. The garage is secured and parking fees are quite reasonable. The leasing agents are friendly and maintenance fixes any issue you have in your apartment super quickly. You are steps away from the T and can get anywhere in the city very quickly. On top of it, you can have up to 2 pets and that's a huge deal in Boston. They are great at keeping the dog park clean and filled with poo bags & hand sanitizer! read more

We lived here for two years. The apartment was great, sound proof walls (only outside noise came from the hallway), stainless steel appliances, kitchen set up straight out of an Ikea showroom. The covered parking (an additional charge) was a major plus, unless you were assigned a top level spot, which aren't covered. There's also a "dog park" across from the garage. Which is essentially a fenced in gravel pit with two benches. Downsides were, the court yard is directly across from a half-way house. So, be prepared to have random questions yelled at you from across the street while you're walking your dog. Building ownership changed and they raised our rent $400, which is why we left. I gave it 4 stars because all-in-all it's a decent place. Super close to downtown (10-15 min T ride), quiet, well constructed apartments. Just be aware a parking space and a fur baby will add an extra $150 to your already overly inflated rent. read more

Preface: The only reason I made this review even has 3 stars is because of my neighbours and friends at Mezzo. When I first moved in, Mezzo seemed shiny and new. My first impression of the building, staff, and amenities were positive. And they allowed pets! However, a few months in I could already tell some things were slightly off. For example, no one explained where the trash disposal area was, and while figuring it out, I TEMPORARILY placed my trash bag in the wrong location, which within 30 minutes I discarded properly. The next day the property manager, in a caddy and unfriendly manner, told me she saw where I put the trash and that I couldn't leave it there. This communicated that she had nothing better to do that look at video footage. Which I have been informed she looks at for fun. That was the beginning of feeling intimidated and "watched" by the manager and staff. There were also some dangerous incidents included: my vanity mirror in the bathroom was lazily mounted so it fell, and had I not been it would have severely injured my pets. The closet space provided was insufficient, and the wardrobe that was in the apartment collapsed. I was harassed about putting up my own shades, despite insuring they did not violate my lease or any other policies. (At the time I lived in an apartment in the corner with all windows, so I wanted a solution that allowed more natural light with privacy). More recently, there was a resident roaming the hallway with a dangerous weapon, about which the management or staff said nothing. Not even an email telling people to be cautious. The well-being of residents IS NOT considered. Why Mezzo isn't worth their prices: lighting is very limited, so having a well lit space is entirely the residents responsibility. Random switches and electrical work that makes 0 sense. The office staff, especially within the last 6 months, appear lazy, uninterested, at times hostile, and frankly unprofessional. They only address things that require minimal effort and repeatedly ignore resident requests, suggestions, and complaints. The building advertises being pet friendly, but logistically the rules are impractical, unrealistic, and inconsistent. Frankly, the managements behaviour in all is incredible inconsistent and unprofessional. Where it's gossiping about other residents, randomly intimidating residents with threats, treating residents with poor attitude and disinterest. The facilities are sub-par, with a gym that doesn't even touch the standard that is advertised. Trash disposal and maintenance is poorly managed and designed. And residents are blamed and fined $75 for a system / procedure that clearly needs to be reworked. The blame is consistently placed on residents. It is the managements job to better guide the community on how to do things properly. And if there's still a problem, then frankly that means there's something wrong with the system in place. It shows clear laziness and lack of interest in making the living experience at mezzo the best it can be. Focus is spent on superficial improvements which mask the insufficient and deteriorating conditions. I used to enjoy mezzo, but over the two years I've been here, I've noticed multiple people have been leaving because the prices are not nearly worth the experience of living at Mezzo. I would not recommend this community to others. For these prices, you'd be better off in Assembly or buildings managed by other, better companies. read more

In terms of service, the management office staff are friendly, responsive, and helpful. In terms of value, I do not believe that Mezzo offers a great deal on these apartments, especially considering the neighborhood and surrounding area. There is obviously a reason that these units couldn't sell as condos so were made into 'modern loft apartments', which isn't something that the leasing staff openly share with you when they are trying to get you into the building. read more

Beware of Mezzo. The management is incompetent and regularly breaks the terms of your lease without apology. Repeatedly entered my unit without permission and allowed access to external workers. They have no concern for the safety of you or your property. I had to move out because of this. I am extremely unhappy with manager Sara Barron and regional manager Stacy Lovell. read more

Have lived at Mezzo for 4+ years and couldn't think of anything less then outstanding to say about the apartment and it's staff. Not to mention the absolute ideal location of the apartment. Easily the most impressive part is the leasing office staff. The absolute definition of class. Having dealt with other apartment companies in the area, none of them come close to the level of professionalism and customer support at Mezzo. I honestly don't feel like a customer, it's more like a Mezzo family. Sara Barron is the highlight of that office. She is super friendly and has been there to assist me with anything i've needed my whole time there. The business side of things have been effortless. Lease renewals aren't stressful or even remotely a hassle. I can honestly say she has our backs and best interest in mind as residents. The maintenance staff is amazing as well and keeps the place running. Any maintenance issue i've ever had was taken care of in a day within submitting a request. They also keep the the trash disposal area clear and make living at Mezzo completely effortless. All you have to do is live there! read more

I liked the concept, the wide living space... the parking garage was a HUGE advantage, as well as the quick and easy access to the T to downtown. I will say, overall... the building and amenities were impeccable. The designers did a beautiful job... *REGRETFULLY* this gets an overall 2 out of 5 star finish from me because of the staff members. I never lodged a formal complaint upon leaving, but I was never pleased with how the "professionals" dealt with community issues or greeted me generally when I saw them in the halls. This building is overpriced and poorly maintained. The trash shoot is constantly overflowing causing trash to spill out into the parking spots 90% of the time. When we moved in the cheapest lease was an 8 month lease and not a 12 month lease. We were assured the rent would not go up more than 1-2% as our fear was the rent would just be raised sooner. In a move that shocked absolutely no one our rent was raised by 6% after 8 months. The rent was also raised during the COVID-19 pandemic when new tenants were paying $800 less for the same apartment. The front entry is always filled with flies since dogs pee right out front and the management does not have it cleaned in a timely fashion. We have had multiple lost packages as well. I would not recommend this apartment building to anyone unless you like watching drug addicts shoot up outside of your building. Over the last month we have been without hot water for over 4 days and the property management said there would be compensation and then when it came time for it they said that there would in fact be none. Unless you enjoy wasting money I would steer clear of Mezzo or any other Lincoln property. read more

This is a great community. The units are nearly soundproof and almost all of the residents are families or professionals and everyone is respectful of the shared spaces. The gym is small but so far hasn't been crowded at all and is equipped with a decent set of free weights and kettlebells. The garage and sidewalks have been routinely cleared super fast and all maintenance issues are resolved that day or the next day. Interesting concept behind these apartments with the whole customizable aspect. They let you pick a wall and they'll paint it for you, and they used to let you choose the color of the floor but not sure if they still do. The building is in a tough location though because there isn't much directly nearby. For the money you can probably find better location-wise but other than that it's a nice place. read more

I love the Mezzo! My boyfriend and I have only been here since October but we're loving our experience. The apartments are completely sound proof, which is so hard to find anywhere. The courtyards are awesome for hanging out and grilling with friends, also a good way to meet some neighbors. Having heat/water included in the rent is a lifesaver. The move-in elevator is great, made for a seamless move in, especially big couches/beds! I'm hoping we have more resident events to meet more people, other than that I have nothing but kind words to say! read more

One of the "amenities" is listed as free WiFi. The speed is so slow that its laughable. 0.5Mbps!! If you want to accomplish anything, you'll have to pay for your own connection. It used to be a place where it felt like they cared about the residents, but no longer. The all-resident emails have gotten downright rude! read more

Our family has lived here for two years while looking for a house. The team at Mezzo is amazing. They really go above and beyond for us. With parking, storage, and a gym on site its a perfect apartment. Not to mention it's right on the t so I can be at the back bay in 25 minutes door to do. My Fiance our pup and I love living at the Mezzo Lofts! We met with Jason several times prior to signing our lease and he was very patient and helpful as we found the perfect apartment for our small family. We're so happy to finally find a dog friendly community. Everyone from management to our neighbors have been truly wonderful. Several weeks into moving in I clogged our garbage disposal and unhinged our closet door and maintenance was there on the same day to fix it. We love our gym, dog park, our short commute to Sullivan Sq. station and the community area that has free wireless access and cable. We couldn't be any happier with our decision to move to the Mezzo Design Lofts. We will be here for awhile:) read more

I've lived at this location for a year and half and this place is a huge rip off. While we love the apartment and being close to the train, the management rips you off EVERY chance they get and maintenance department is completely USELESS and customer services is subpar. The initial rent increase proposal for our renewal was almost $300 - after lengthy negotiation we were able to get it down to less than $150. When our lease renewed the management charged us over $100 fee for not insufficient funds when we paid our rent online and they had a glitch on THEIR end of the system processing the payment. we were required to get a certified check when we immediately tried paying upon notice both online and by check. We get charged random fees all the time. Any time we've put in a maintenance request, it is fixed minimum a week after notification; many times it's not fixed at all and we start getting emails months after the request was put in if the matter is still a concern. NOT to mention they broke my floor lamp when doing a maintenance request. some other cons: it's very loud if you don't keep the windows closed, the apartment will lose heat or AC at least a few times each season, there is very little close space. pros: close to train station, high ceilings. read more

I love living here my family and I moved here in July there is a park across hte street, a gym so you cancel that monthly memebership and the gym has access 24/7. The staff is super firendly and get their job done from the office to the maintence everyone is friendly. You really dont here the train that much and it is actually quiet considering the location Sullivan Square. The appliances are top of the line and work well. If you go Greentheir is recycling, and enery saver appliances I believe the washer and dryer are. Also everything is pretty much electric but its really cheap compared to where we lived before, problaly because everything is brand new. I love it here read more

This place is not at all worth the money. It is in the middle of a sketchy area and the walls are paper thin so you can hear everything in the apartment above, next to, and even people passing in the hallway. There have also been break ins and this is supposed to be a 'secure' building. In the span of two months, there has been two fires. During the last fire there was significant flood damage so now the hallway where I have to walk through looks like a disaster and they aren't being efficient about fixing it. I also have the 'privilege' of paying $175 per month for parking. They just recently repaired the garage door after it had broken for almost two months. The garage door just remained up so anyone can go in through. They do take your packages at the front desk when you are not available to get them, unfortunately they get to decide when and if they ever deliver the package to you. Good luck with that. This is not a place I would recommend. The staff is nice when you move in but completely rude after you have moved in. This is not what I would call an upscale place to live....at all. read more
