This is definitely not a Value City Furniture or Home Goods, so don't come here expecting to spend less than a pretty penny, but the items they offer are stylish and comfy to boot. I stopped by toward the end of the year and they had a nice selection of holiday-themed items. The store is of course geared toward home furnishings but they have some gift-type items as well. As far as I can tell, they most likely rotate what they showcase in the store as the season goes but many things can be purchased online. During my visit, they happened to be doing a monthly wine tasting and I proceeded to sample several wines. The wines can be purchased in-store and online. Even during these times I would like to "see" things as I shop (but maybe don't "touch"?), and Two Chicks District Co. is worth a visit. I went up to the front desk to ask about a Facebook Marketplace agreement I had made for a sofa set and the price, only to find out there had been some miscommunication. At first I honestly thought I might have been scammed, which instantly put me in a terrible mood. I definitely huffed around and complained about how far I had driven while trying to sort it out. Long story short...the Facebook Marketplace dealer was not a scam at all. We had simply misunderstood which pieces we were talking about. Fast forward to the end of the visit: three employees (two gentlemen and a woman / I'm sad I didn't get their names) helped me load everything and went the extra mile in every way. They were incredibly kind to me... even after my less-than-great attitude earlier. I tipped them and apologized for being grumpy, but I have to say I left there genuinely believing in people again. They handled the situation with so much patience and kindness. Very cool experience. I'll absolutely be back (with a better attitude!) and I'll be paying that kindness forward. So it was exciting to see one of our local spots, Frontdoor Home Design, expand its operations at the same time. Previously located on Washington Street, it shifted to the space that used to house Coal Yard Coffee, and has brightened up the block in more ways than one. Frontdoor offers tons of furniture, lighting, and home goods -- a remarkable selection packed cozily into a tiny space, which uses its square footage effectively without feeling too cramped to get around. If anything it displays the owner's talents for setting a vibe in any space, as it's completely unrecognizable from when it used to be a coffee shop. But the most hopeful thing about Frontdoor is getting the design expertise that they offer. It's as much as service as it is a shop, and you can easily wile away an afternoon brainstorming and ideating about what's possible in spaces of your home that you didn't even imagine could change. If you've passed by but haven't popped in, it's time to change that!

Foundry 317 is along the canal right on Westfield Boulevard. Foundry 317 focuses on home decor and furniture. I clearly arrived right at the tail-end of the holiday season and a good number of the items either had a holiday theme or fit within the holiday season. Items included antiques, one-of-a-kind furniture pieces, festive accents, candles, and other overall housing items. Foundry 317 has a parking lot, though I was actually wheeling there. There's a small ramp up to the sidewalk if you approach it from the right (facing Foundry 317). The doorway is pretty workable and I found the interior to be surprisingly accessible (though I will admit I was taking extra caution given some of the prices!). As I was wheeling, I knew it was pretty unlikely I'd actually buy anything on this visit as it would have been difficult to carry back to my car. However, I definitely saw some items I loved and can easily see myself returning in the near future. The employee I encountered was friendly, the environment was warm and inviting, and I really loved some of the smaller items. I'm a candle freak and definitely would like to return for those. I've always found this section of Westfield Blvd. a little hit-and-miss. The sidewalk is kind of cracked and it's somewhat uneven, however, there's much to love here and I loved the efforts toward accessibility. This is definitely a little gem. I'd seen it before, however, I've never been by when they were open. I finally got the chance to visit, and I'm definitely impressed. I'll be back.

So when I stopped in after seeing a friend's photos of the shop, I first noticed that the staff was personable and inviting. As I browsed through the different rooms in the shop, each was a little different. There are some standard items like candles, knick knacks, some women's jewelry and accessories, and even a few toys. But what I sensed was there were two themes that seemed most apparent. First, the store is loaded with holiday items. I came here just a few days before Christmas and the place was loaded with unique items that were affordable (though not cheap.) There were ornaments (marked down by 40%), table items, and things you'll just have to come in and check out for yourself. I also noticed a second theme that was promoting downtown Indy. They had pillows with the names of neighborhoods on them. Those would be great as house/apartment warming gifts. Even the candles mentioned earlier had neighborhood names on them, though I am not certain who determined which scent represented them. (Note that all the fragrances were pleasant, not some actual scent you might smell outside!) And the staff were friendly and welcoming. That goes a long way.
