I am writing to express my deep disappointment with a recent experience at the Hampton Inn in Whitmarsh, MD. We stayed at this location to celebrate my partner's 50th birthday, but our experience was completely unacceptable and upsetting. Upon check-in, we discovered that our room had been given to someone else, and another guest's belongings were already inside. When we brought this to the attention of a staff member named Carmen, she was incredibly rude, unprofessional, and confrontational. Instead of resolving the issue, she accused us of lying and stated, "No it's not, and you're f--ing with the right one. You won't get a room f--ing with me." Her behavior was completely inappropriate and threatening. As we decided to leave the hotel due to this treatment, she further insulted us by saying, "It's not the room, it's the people." This comment was not only disrespectful but also carried clear racial undertones, making an already bad situation even worse. To make matters worse, the room itself was unclean, the towels were in poor condition, and the general environment did not meet even basic standards of hospitality. This experience ruined what was supposed to be a special occasion. The conduct of this employee was not just rude--it was hostile, discriminatory, and unacceptable. The customer service was terrible. We reserved a room with a king bed a month before, and when we got there they said since we came later in the day they gave our king to someone else but they had a room with two twins left for us. It also took the receptionist a full two minutes to come out of the back to help us cause she was too busy smoking weed in the back. We could smell it so bad up front. read more

Booked and received a confirmed reservation in January for a March 1st stay. Early morning March 1st received an email stating my room was not available. Did not see email due to traveling all day and not having email availability (even though they did have my phone #). Finally saw email later in day. I called them and was told they HAD to give my room to someone coming in for some "area sporting event". They apologized and tried to get me a room at another place down the road which could not accommodate my request for the type of suite that I needed for the 3 adults in my party. Once again, an email stating they (the other hotel) didn't have the room that I needed. As of Aug 13, 2021- The pictures on Yelp are too "glamourised". In reality, I'd be so bold to say that this establishment must be a "forgotten son" of the Hilton Family. Maybe it's covid, maybe it's neglect, I'm not sure.... but my experience here is far below what's expected from Hilton. 1. Ants in the lobby - some guests dont clean up after themselves. (Shame on them) staff doesn't clean up after the guests, so in my 3 day stay, I saw the same muffin collecting ants on the same table. 2. It smells dirty-leftover cigarette smoke? 3. If you need a place to lay your head but don't care much for anything else, then this place is ok - But you'd be paying 150$ a night. At least this is what we paid. read more

I really wish it was noted that this hotel was undergoing renovations before I booked. Otherwise, I would've stayed somewhere else. Stepping in I can see why they needed to renovate. The whole look of the hotel is outdated. I booked a King but when I got there it was a double bed. Want to stay warm? Then you better bundle up because the heat didn't work either. So wrong room type and no heat. We checked in after 11 pm so I had to just bite the bullet because I knew that by time maintenance arrived, I would've been sleep. We have been doing much traveling in the last few weeks, we have become big fans of the cleanliness and quality of Hampton Inns and look for them exclusively when we travel without our pet. This was the exception to the rule, upon entering the room, it had a musty odor- it did not have the amenities we have grown accustomed too, no mini fridge, NO Complimentary Breakfast? The place presents itself as a bit run down and outdated although it was clean, the bed was comfortable The front desk staff was fine, the only thing that stuck out was the outdoor pool was green, and a feeling of disappointment- I would not look to return to this location. read more

This Hampton Inn is very reasonable. It is in a beautiful area (White Marsh) with lots of restaurants and a "Giant" supermarket. It is conveniently located off 95. We had a King bed - with taxes $125. We have AAA and AARP and total was $109. The room was nice, nothing special, and had a noticeable musty smell. I didn't like it. I figured the AC would take care of that. When lying in bed I noticed the water stains and mildew on the ceiling. The room most definitely needs a redo - Room 333. The shower had nice pressure that I appreciate and bathroom was comfortable. The staff was extremely nice and friendly including cleaning personnel. Breakfast was nice with Chiobanni yogurt, oatmeal, egg omelet (fake eggs I think) , bacon and some nice looking pastry. Coffee was excellent. They has 2 televisions. One was on CNN and the other the Fox conservative network. It was nice to have both. This is a nice hotel but make sure of room first. read more

Great service from a good Hampton property. My buddy and I stayed overnight to attend a military gala close by so that we did not have to drive back. The property seems a bit dated, but it meets the Hilton standards. Comfortable room, bed, linen, pillows, and of course, breakfast in the morning. Plus: * Location, location, location. Right off of the interstate, close by many attractions * Great, professional staff - in fact, we used the shuttle service to get to and back from the event * Breakfast in the morning was tasty and actually filling. Scrambled eggs, sausage, fresh cut up fruits, and even a waffle maker! And of course, juice and a never ending supply of coffee. Con: * Gym - I did not use, but it consisted of only a threadmill, recumbent bike, elliptical, not useful for keeping in shape. I stayed only one night so did not need to work out. We returned from the gala and wanted a nightcap - there is not a bar/restaurant in the Hampton Inn, but across the parking lot is the Hilton Garden Inn where there is a bar where we ended the night with a toast "to the Army!" The only reason why I didn't give the place one star is that I've seen worse.... but I can't remember when. I would expect this for a room costing $50 a night, but not when the cost was more than $150 a night. First impression: the place looks fine, but the person at the front desk was surly, which was somewhat off-putting. The carpeting in the room should have been replaced long ago; it was very badly stained & filthy-looking, and (perhaps from the carpet) smelled terrible. (We had to have the room changed, which improved the smell, but everything else was the same.) There was no mini-fridge, no chairs, no table. Two beds and a dresser. The room had obviously been cleaned; the bathroom wasn't dirty (or anything like that), but this was not what we had expected from a Hilton-owned property. DO NOT STAY HERE! I just returned home from a weekend at the Hampton Inn celebrating my Uncle's 80th birthday party. This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. We paid for a suite, and when we arrived for check-in they said there weren't any available. So, the room we did get had stains on the carpet and felt like it wasn't cleaned. The next day we requested another room. In this room the toilet was stopped up and we went to grab the phone to call the front desk and the phone wasn't working. So, since the phone wasn't working, we were going to just speak to someone at the front desk and had to walk down the flight of stairs because all of the elevators were out of service! There weren't enough towels in the rooms. I called and requested additional towels since I have a family of four and they said they would see what they could do. I had family members who never received new wash cloths to their rooms either. The lobby floor was dirty. Not sure when was the last time it saw a mop. We requested non- smoking room, however, when you get off of the elevator you immediately smell cigarette smoke from in the hallway! We were only there for the weekend and we thought about going to another hotel, but rolled up our sleeves and endured it, but never again! There are other hotels nearby that I would suggest exploring before coming here. read more

My daughter wanted her 12th birthday party here - a few friends spending the night in a hotel, playing games, etc. So I booked 2 rooms next to each other (218 - 1 king bed, where I stayed / 220 - 2 queen beds and a sofa bed, where the girls stayed). This place is really dated. The lobby area is nice enough, but the rooms are dated and dingy. Room 218 has so many stains on the carpet it's gross. No liquid hand soap, which I thought was strange especially in the era of COVID. I don't like sharing a bar of soap to wash your hands, even before the pandemic. It's gross and not sanitary. They don't have many hand sanitizer stations throughout the hotel. Only in the main lobby area. And no sanitizer in the room. The TV in 218 has some weird dark spot in the bottom left area. Floor 2 smelled like weed, which I mean you do you but I did not enjoy the smell. Furthermore, the staff knocked on my daughter's door for a noise complaint, but it wasn't coming from my daughter's room. It was, in fact, coming from the room across the hall. Which I pointed out, and I also let them know it smelled like weed. I'm not sure if they addressed the room across the hall, but they woke me up around midnight being loud. I'm adding a star because we ate some food that made us ill, and the gentleman at the front desk early in the morning got us some more toilet paper with no questions or complaints lol. Also when I came back from Starbucks with 5 drinks in hand, an associate saw my struggle and pressed the elevator buttons for me. So that was nice. read more

I am giving it two stars so that the review does not get overlooked. If it were to receive one star readers would assume that there was an irate customer, but I was only disappointed. It was an embarrassment to the Hampton name. The type of filth witnesses would take months and intent to acquire. The keys were turned in immediately after walking up the the room on the 3rd floor. The hallway carpet is in a state that can not even be cleaned by a professional. A most recent highly visible stain in the carpet appears to be from garbage being drug down the hall with a leak in the container. The hallway also wreaked of a class one substance. The marijuana odor was brought up to the front desk, and she said that they cannot control marijuana use in their building. The condition of the carpet in the room and public corridors was not just a recent occurrence, so the staff would already be aware of its condition. This is my first experience using booking.com, and I expect an entire (100%) refund. I have contacted my bank and am prepared to dispute the transaction if need be. read more

Overall, the hotel was nice and comfortable. The room was spacious and well maintained. Front desk staff was very pleasant. They have free chocolate chip cookies for their guests at check-in, which for me is a BIG plus. Location was a little inconvenient, but I had no choice. (At least Baltimore's public transit system seems to operate pretty efficiently.) The reason for the two-star review, I'm sorry to say, is because the toilet would not flush properly. Going #1 was okay, a little dicey, but #2 was just unacceptable. Although most of the solid stuff went down, the paper absolutely would not, so you had paper and these little bits ("floaters") that just remained in the murky water of the bowl. Rather than demand another room -- I think the hotel was actually full -- I tried to fix it as best I could, but to no avail. I called the woman at the front desk, who said she'd send a maintenance person up. He arrived, quite surly, and fixed the problem, but was obviously not a happy camper. I asked if it was a frequent problem here, and he replied, cold as ice, "All. The. Time." I don't blame the poor guy for being in a bad mood... I would sure hate to do that, day in and day out. Anyway, the problem persisted through my two night stay. A shame, because I really did like the place except for this one, albeit very important, issue. I was starting to feel like this hotel just might reach a higher rating then normal, but then I went to the pool, fitness room and my own room! Breakfast is included, but I'm sure there won't be much there to write home about - we shall see and I will update as my time continues. I am one that reviews as I go, instead of waiting - I think it's because I normally don't have a lot of time to do these reviews. Ok - the check in process went smoothly - the one elevator was out of service, leaving one to get me to the third floor. Room was fairly close to the exit, which I like, but though the room was clean and spacious - it lacked the small fridge I prefer and things just seemed a bit out of place. After going to one of my favorite fast good chains (Chick-fli-a) I ventured to the outdoor poor - where I had to sign in. Every chair and lounge by the pool was covered in little ants - the nasty ones that bite. When I questioned the person tending to the cold pool - he said they spray, but nothing keeps them away. Typical - keep doing the same thing expecting different results is insane! The towels out there were also not the best - but then again - any place that doesn't care about ants probably doesn't care much about towels! Maybe I'm just not happy about this trip - but staying at this Hampton isn't giving me the warm and fuzzy feeling I needed. We shall see what else happens this week! read more

This is my go to home away from home in Baltimore, unless I am going to the city or hanging out in Fell's Point or for a game. There is public transportation easily accessible if you want to shoot in to watch a game, but I like being close so will opt for a downtown hotel. This is of course if one of the many fold out couches or guest rooms are not available :). "The Good" - The staff makes this place. That is the biggest compliment I can give. They are happy to see you when you walk in, they remember your name or at least that you have been there before and they are polite and friendly. - Rooms are a decent size and set up where you can see the TV from the desk, the exception to this is the corner transition rooms which are slightly larger than the average room. Their desk is a table by the kitchenette area. - They have a Trolley that makes shuttle runs over to The Avenue at White Marsh (see separate review) which is very cool. - There is no fitness room, but they occasionally have passes to the Ballys next door. I do not know if this is still the norm. I had the weekend off and did not explore this option. All work and no play... "The Meh" - Nothing really meh. "The Bad" - The worst monument sign on the planet. You seriously cannot see it if there is traffic in the oncoming lane. Just make your first left after you turn right off of Campbell. read more

First and last time we will be staying at Hampton Inn. We had the worse night of sleep. My back hasn't hurt this bad in years. Besides the horrible beds the sheets were stained. I have to admit that this hotel stunned me when I walked into my room. It looked like an old 1970 room. The carpet was old and dirty. It felt dirty. My bed sheets looked like someone just folded the cover backs and didn't changed the sheets. I immediate left a message in the Hilton Honors app and they immediately sent it to the front desk. I received a call from the front desk host and she was wonderful. She explained to me that the hotel was up for a renovation and they were just waiting. She apologized for the fact that the room did not make me comfortable. She sent a housekeeper up to change my sheets and she took some money off my bill. Customer service was awesome. Sorry I don't know the ladies name but Thank You to your superior service!! I will not come back to this hotel but customer service will keep me coming back to Hilton! read more

Excellent service, location and amenities. Definitely meets Hilton standards! I love the free breakfast, snack bags and mid day coffee and water break. They also have the best chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies for an after dinner snack! Located right next door to the LA Fitness, guests have free access to the facility. Conveniently located right off the highway. You are also walking distance from an outdoor mall if you forgot to pack something. If you're a HHonors member, take advantage of the check-in service. You can select your room beforehand and just grab the key at the front desk when you arrive. No hassle and wait at the front desk! read more

This is the worst Hilton property I have ever stayed in. In a nutshell - dirty, worn, outdated. The person who checked me in was if not rude, then indifferent. Carpet in my room was stained, torn and coming apart. Carpet in the hallways hasn't seen a vacuum in a long time, elevators were filthy. The customer service here is top notch. They have a complimentary trolley service that runs from 4pm until midnight that will take you to any of the many many shops, restaurants and movie theater adjacent to the hotel. I even wanted to catch a midnight showing of Sex and the City and they had security pick me up after my movie was over (at 2:30 AM!) because they didn't want me to have to walk across the street alone (although I tried to tell them that I was tougher than overcooked steak). So why do they only have 2 stars? Because the rooms suck. The bathroom smells like mildew and the carpets feels damp and tacky under your feet. I thought that it must have just been my room, but when I met my other colleagues for their free breakfast, they had the same exact issues. One of them even had bugs in her room (in all fairness, she was on the first floor right by the "smoker's exit"). The other down side of the room is that the pillows are awful. They have zero substance and will cause the mother of all neck pains. Word to the wise: use only the little harder pillow unless you think that your chiropractor is good looking and deserves a visit. I would not stay there again because the rooms are just gross, but i was super super happy with the staff. read more

Pros: -The staff is very friendly and actually welcome you to the hotel. This is very refreshing as now a days hotel clerks are often rude and seem to hate their lives. -A plate of fresh cookies were left near the check in for us, that was awesome. -Rooms are very clean and did not have any weird odors. Air conditioning was on when we came in so the room was fresh. -Bed cover is actually cleaned, so no need to worry about nasty unwashed sheets (don't understand why hotels leave a nasty unwashed cover on the beds anyways...). -Continental breakfast was great. A choice of eggs, sausage, fresh fruit (grapefruit, pineapple, orange already cut mix), pastries, toast,, bagels, waffles, oatmeal, yogurt, with your coffee, orange juice, cranberry juice etc. -Beds were comfortable, I got a really good night's rest. -Free Wifi!!!! You would think hotels would all offer this now these days. Cons: Absolutely none. I checked into the hotel and was greeted by a very nice manager on duty. He was friendly and made me feel very welcome. There were signs up saying that they were remodeling the hotel. I thought it was nice as it was but there were signs of wear. The room was clean with some normal aging to the walls and bathroom fixtures. The tv was a modest sized flat screen with a good picture and decent channel selection. I like Hampton Inn because of the consistency across their properties and this was no exception. Breakfast was almost identical to others in the chain. The first morning was good with the western omelet. I was a little disappointed the second, though. I was excited to see they had biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were good but the gravy (though fresh) was too salty. Arrived late on a Saturday evening after sister hotel made arrangements (long story - see related review). The manager greeted us warmly and had complementary welcome gift waiting for us due to sister hotel issue. More importantly front desk accomodayed our allergy us by moving us to non smoking room. Our room was clean and bed firm. The only complaint would be noisy air conditioner. Breakfast serving area small so a bit congested but more than adequate. read more
