This is the pool: advertisement Vs reality.

The hotel and common areas were clean, the room was nice. The hospitality industry has certainly changed since Covid. Of the five front desk staff members that I interacted with during our weekend stay, two were pleasant and helpful and one of them was the person checking me out. One man was on his phone and/or the computer with his earbud in and appeared to be put out when asked assistance. The other man spent a - good amount of his rime outside smoking in the pick up area in front of the building. One woman sat in the guest chairs in the lobby playing on her phone. There was a stand with sanitizing wipes for guests-it sat empty all weekend. They aren't required and if you don't have them, put the stand away. The elevators-it was obvious that only one of them worked, the one that did made sounds that made one question it's safety. The toilet ran-had to constantly jiggle the handle to make it stop. No room service-you can ask for something. The breakfast was ok. Typical items. No protein without dairy ( tons of cheese) and the bacon was greasy-yes I realize it's bacon. There was coffee and tea always in the lobby and the room did have a microwave and fridge-that was nice. Overall-I didn't feel that there was value in my Dollars spent there. And the pool-it was green! See photos from their advertising and the reality.

    Bug from Bed

I had stayed at this hotel several times in a 5 month period. Overall, this was an OK property. I struggled with housekeeping only providing a single washcloth, the front desk staff smoking right in front of the front door, the staff not wearing name tags, and the elevator showing a Certificate that expired. But, it was close to work, so I stayed. In early January, I stayed another time. On my first morning, I saw a bug crawling on my bed. I trapped it and brought it downstairs, giving it to the gentleman at the front desk, and asking for a different room. I thought it was a tick, so did nothing else other than change rooms. When I left for work, I saw the front desk person showing the bug to a woman. After seeing an article on bed bugs yesterday, I checked my photo and, sure enough, it was a bed bug not a tick. The hotel had to know I had been in a room with bed bugs and should have told me. Them simply moving me rooms meant the infestation could have spread to the other room, and I could have brought them home with me. I believe this is a disrespectful way to treat guests. I have moved to another at Rea hotel.

We were in Groton for a war at the shore weekend long baseball tournament and the entire team booked 3 days at this hotel at a special rate of $199/night. While the baseball schedule was assigned to not have a Monday game, we basically are wasting a night for Sunday. If we cancelled the Sunday night, we would be charged the regular rate of $250/night...so basically was forced to stay the 3rd night. Staff was very friendly, and rooms were nicely renovated. Aside from my wife getting locked in the bathroom due to the sliding door design, it was an ok stay. They should design the door better. If the sliding door is closed too far where it comes off the floor guide, it'll get lodged in between the wall and the floor guide. If she was alone in the bathroom, she would be stuck for hours banging and screaming for help. We notified the front desk, sent a maintenance guy up and worked on it for a while. So we checked out...they didn't do anything...nothing for our inconvenience. So much for hospitality! To add insult to injury, they over charged me $102!! I had to call them when I got home.

As soon as we got to the hotel it was a good experience....we got free cookies!! Then we went to our room...everything so nice and clean, I appreciate the room and the halls not smelling like cigarettes because I've been to some hotels that smell like cigarettes. The pool was nice and relaxing a bit cold but you get used to it. Overall it was a good experience.

When we went up to the room, my Dad opened up the door only to see that it was occupied! There was luggage open, a hat on the table etc. Thankfully, the occupant was not there in that moment or it could've gone really bad. Imagine if they'd just gotten out of the shower and someone had barged into their room while they were still indecent. It would've been a lawsuit for sure. Anyways, we were transferred to a new room. This room had lots of things wrong with it. First, maintenance had left a large fan machine blowing air really loudly in it. The AC machine did not work and was covered in mold. The room had a mildew smell. The curtain rods didn't have any curtains Just sticks, no fabric. Usually there's a sheer curtain and a thicker black out curtain. There was no sheer curtain. There were mysterious red stains on the couch. No bed bugs though! Breakfast was underwhelming. The apple juice was very watery. The food was generally pretty bland. Eggs rubbery, sausage was unflavorful. The boiled oatmeal was literally mush. Bagels were ok. Also, the chair cushions in the lobby were chipped/cracked and peeling. Table was wobbly. The location is in a random spot in a sketchy neighborhood. Parking is ok. Basically, I agree with the other reviewers that this place is definitely dated and janky af lol. I was disappointed because I thought Marriott had a certain level of standards. If you stay for one night here as a last resort, it's fine but I'd go somewhere else if you intend to stay a bit longer.

The rooms were spacious and clean, with attractive furnishings of tables, dresser, chairs and bed. We did not try the pool-like bathtub (next to shutters that open to the main room and TV!) but the shower was magnificent! Towels and ROBES were fluffy and floral-smelling. Toilet flush was awesome, lol. Height of counter was thoughtfully higher-than usual and it had room for personal effects. The bed was not super-comfortable but acceptable. It was soft over hard, and my sister felt pressure points. The chairs sunk in the middle, but we weren't in them long. The gas fireplace was lovely!! And both windows open for fresh air, which I find very important. The place was very quiet and we only encountered other guests a few minutes here and there. The grounds are Gorgeous with grasses, roses, huge lavender plants. We loved sitting in the metal patio furniture with umbrellas, by the marina, eating our custom breakfasts! So relaxing and decadent. Kat, our breakfast waitress, was A+ and very pleasant. We all liked the food too. We did walk to local restaurants from here, plus easily visited Mystic by car. We did walk the nearby 1mi bayside trail to the Hole-in-the-Wall beach. It was a bit too far unless you can enjoy ~3mi roundtrip from Inn to beach. Our favorite restaurants were 374 Kitchen & Cocktail, followed by Constantine's (deck). We did not care for Flanders which was crowded and noisy, plus several additional unpleasant features! Now for the gritty: For unknown reason, the Inn has very cheap toiletpaper! And there is no place to lay clothes in the bathroom except in a drawer. There is no fridge in the room - just an icebucket with a fridge and ice in the community areas. They provide 2 bottles of water at the start of your stay...but you can get another at breakfast. Coffee is in carafes in the morning, but otherwise from Keurigs in the community room. You may freely wear the robes - just place them with your dirty towels at end of stay. To get clean towels, place your used ones outside your door! Fresh ones will magically appear in a plastic bag outside the door. They were not offering the pontoon rides when we were there in early June. I was disappointed and felt they should post the limitations. They do have cookies plus wine/cheese/grapes at certain times. These items are in the main Inn, where there are two tiny closets with staff in them. We were pretty comfortable going in and out the business area. Kat was the most welcoming, smiling when we cut through the kitchen each morning. We splurged to stay here for 70th BD celebrations. All four of us loved the Inn and had fun days in Niantic and Mystic.
