That's why this stay lands at 2 stars. Yes, I had a place to sleep--but the basics weren't there. The room felt neglected. There was visible mildew on the showerhead and along the baseboards in the shower. The water pressure was weak, and getting the water hot enough to feel clean took way too much effort. There was dust--caked dust--on fixtures like the alarm unit. The ironing board had dried red residue on the cover that would absolutely transfer onto clothes if used. Amenities were inconsistent at best. I had one towel, no washcloths, and four packets of makeup remover wipes (which felt random given everything else missing). The tissue box had the classic "two tissues fluffed up on top" trick, but nothing underneath. The Keurig was there... with no coffee. The mini fridge was leaking onto the floor. Even the AC had heavy condensation, which just added to the sense that maintenance isn't keeping up. Customer service didn't help the experience. Omar, who checked me in, wasn't rude, but it felt mechanical. I mentioned that my digital check-in didn't work, and instead of any acknowledgment or attempt to address it, it was straight to "ID and credit card." He smiled, but it felt more like habit than hospitality. What stood out more was him handling a guest dispute loudly in the lobby--essentially arguing through a payment issue on the phone in full earshot of everyone. It created an awkward, uncomfortable atmosphere. What's frustrating is that the property itself doesn't seem heavily trafficked, and the general ambiance is clean and quiet. But that makes the lack of room upkeep even harder to excuse. At this point, I'm done giving 3 stars to places that are just "okay." This wasn't okay--it was below standard, especially for a Hilton-branded property like Hampton Inn Princeton. Two stars feels accurate. read more

We decided to stay here for a couple of reasons. Our main reason is because it is a Hilton brand hotel and hubs does a lot of work at Hilton hotels. We stopped here due to it being close to my parents' house and wanted to stay somewhere to decompress from our long drive from FL prior to arriving in NYC. We arrived in the late evening but not super late. We had a lot of luggage to bring from the car so I started ahead with our dog and hubs grabbed a luggage cart and took the remainder to the rooms i was actually impressed with the room. I liked the layout and everything looked updated. We were starving so we decided to sit in the lobby, decide on food to get delivered, and purchase some wine and beer from the hotel market. They had a special on two bottles of wine for a very reasonable price so that's what we went with. The front desk employee was very kind, professional, and helpful. As we sat there, we were able to watch some television once done loud people left the area. I looked at the breakfast area and it was tiny. Since we ate late, we were not hungry in the morning for breakfast and skipped it. Everything seemed okay except there was a clump of hair in our toilet when we arrived in our room. Otherwise, the place looked clean. We really loved there was a Keurig machine in our room instead of those no name hotel crappy coffee machines. read more

Let me start by saying I'm an air BNB girl, but we were visiting family and wanted to stay as close as possible to them. My husband and I are very picky with where we stay and we were both pleasantly surprised with our stay at this hotel. Check in was smooth, we walked into our TV having my name on it and a welcome bag . We stayed in a king suite and The room was magnificent, perfect for 2 people. The bed was so comfortable , they had these black out curtains that worked so well we slept in until we woke up on our own and we thought is was like 5am, but it was 10am!! AC worked perfectly, the shower pressure was amazing , they even had shampoo etc (which I never use because I'm iffy about it) but this place was so damn clean I tried them all and they were all great . They also had breakfast included , we figured bagels and coffee , but no.. it was a full on breakfast and everything was great (waffle maker , omelets, sausages, potato fries & more) & lastly the staff was always friendly , we had 1 issue with our fridge and they sent someone up to fix it immediately . Next time we come to Jersey we will for sure be staying again, we loved everything about this stay . read more

Second stay here. Stayed overnight to meet our kids at Rutgers University New Brunswick. Not far from campus and all the closer hotels were booked for Homecoming weekend. Called to let them know we we're arriving late and front desk was fine. We showed up around 9 PM and our room was ready and check-in was fast. Parking was available in the back in our room was on the third floor overlooking the side yard. Room had one large king one sofa, one task, chair and desk and a big screen TV on top of a bureau. Convenient coffee table that slid underneath the sofa was very nice. One small closet no door had a few hangers and ironing board for your coats and other things. Bathroom sink was outside the toilet and tub and was next to a microwave oven countertop and a very small fridge. Fridge look like a wine cooler, but was cold and had a glass door. Bathroom had a walk-in shower and a toilet. The showerhead was weak and the water not too hot. Otherwise the unit was fine for an overnight stay. Breakfast next morning we showed up late by 930 and the place was packed. Usual hotel, breakfast included turkey, sausage, hashbrowns, and some type of premade omelette. They also had a waffle station cereal, various pastries, but had run out of hard boiled eggs. Not many places around the Hampton Inn or from the direction of New Brunswick. Gas stations, grocery store, a Costco and some fast food restaurants heading towards New Brunswick. Will stay here again in the area. read more

Awful.Awful.Awful. The whole place smells like perfumed mildew. The rooms are not clean, the ac unit appears to be hanging by a thread. Do you want ice? Good luck if you are on floors 2 or 3 the only operational one is on the first floor. Which by the way, you have to take the stairs to the first floor because the elevator has been out of service for 2 days. Want to take a shower? Hope you like it cold because someone set the hot water tank to barely hot so you will not get a hot shower. But don't worry, when you use the chat feature they push so much to inquire they just tell you to call an 800 number. That makes sense, call an 800 number for a local issue. The digital key? Works 50% of the time. Laundry? Hope you aren't on an extended stay because you get to share 1 washer and 1 dryer with 300 other people (so much fun but bring cash for quarters because they are not the Apple Pay ones found in decent Hilton properties.) If you are hoping because it says Princeton in this name that it is a decent hotel, I cannot stress enough to avoid. There are plenty up and down this street I wish I chose instead. read more

I love staying at Hampton Inns and I'm always continuously impressed with them. We'll start off with some of the positives: - extremely clean room - large and comfortable beds + pull out sofa bed as needed - toiletries in shower - clean , fully stocked and tasty complimentary breakfast - large breakfast area - ample parking - great staff Some of the hiccups we experienced included : - not being able to check in 30 mins past check in (we got our room changed) - the tv not working, only audio worked Overall a great stay and I'd definitely recommend this as one of the nicer Hampton Inns I've stayed in. read more

Do NOT stay here, we were here for 4 days and didn't have hot water the entire time. They kept saying the issue was resolved but even the maintenance employees said it wasn't warm. Switching room didn't resolve the issue either. We asked housekeeping for more body wash and Kleenex and that was ignored. My wife, two teenage sons (17 yrs, 15, yrs), miniature poodle, and I stayed here in late December 2022. It was a comfortable stay in terms of the room size (which felt spacious), quiet noise (other than a few trucks at high speed on US1), very clean lobby, and decent breakfast items (good coffee!). The interior of the rooms and lobby area were recently renovated. Parking is available around the perimeter of the hotel. If you have a dog, it's nice that all Hampton Inns nationwide (since April 2022) allow you travel with pet for a nominal fee ($50 for the entire stay). The hotel location is north of Princeton (maybe 10-15 minutes away) and across from the Miele store (you can't miss it on US1 northbound). I would say the only minor blemish is that it's pretty easy to miss this hotel when driving on US1 if you are not using a GPS system or Google Maps. The entrance to the hotel is only accessible from the southbound side of US1 and comes up really quickly if you're not paying close attention. read more

Wish I could do 3.5 stars. The good: very clean, friendly staff, good location. Ample tables & charging spots in our room. The mediocre: breakfast was ok. Almost no options if you have food sensitivities. Same food (basically) every day. Fruit limited to unwashed apples, oranges. Yogurt heavily processed. Oatmeal soup -- the most watery oatmeal I've ever seen. Coffee, packaged cereal, and breakfast meat as expected. The bad/really could be improved: several maintenance issues in our room; missing covers for screws, loose outlets, that kind of thing; broken/tricky bathroom door lock. Very little privacy due to layout in a 4-adult room. Broken exercise bike. The inexplicable: an adjustable showerhead placed at 7'3" high. Yes, I measured. And no way to adjust without climbing onto a ledge meant to rest your foot while shaving, hanging off the grab bar, and adjusting. The height meant that since someone had left it between settings, not only was the spray pattern awful, the pressure was basically spitting onto my 5' high head as it was 2.5' above me, low-flow, and misaligned setting. So yes, I had to climb around this crazy shower after turning it on, to adjust. Not cool, not safe, and totally unnecessary. Lest it seem an anomaly, the dispensers for the body wash/shampoo/conditioner are set at 5'3". Yes, literally at my head height. (??????????? Why???????) you couldn't have a child shower and use these products. And did I mention our room was "accessible"? Maybe for giants. The gym equipment was similarly set up for very tall people with no way to adjust if you were shorter. Even my 6' tall son said it was "too high." read more

I'm guessing this is either a new or refurbished property. The entire hotel was new and clean. Why 4 stars? Great beds, horrible pillows, I hate mushy pillows. Staff seemed a bit inexperienced. Free breakfast was decent, coffee good. Almost forgot, right before checkout, there was a fire in the kitchen. We had to stand outside in the rain for 30 minutes before fire dept. allowed to gather in the lobby. All in all, a very good property and we would definitely consider staying at the Hampton Inn the next time we're in town. read more

Our room rate was $132, which was a pretty good rate considering what the many competitors charge in and around the area. The location was excellent- just about 10-15 minutes from the University and the bustling shopping/dining district of downtown Princeton. The hotel staff we interacted with were all friendly and professional, but I have to say a few words about the front desk. They were all wonderful, smiling and friendly and totally personable. Our room was pretty big with a sofa, a nice work station desk, great TV system, faultless bathroom, and tons of outlets to power up your devices. Hampton Inns gave you an included Breakfast, and ours was pretty good with lots of healthy choices like cereal, yogurt, fruit, and turkey sausage patties. Add those to the waffles, home fries, cheese omeletes, breads and cakes and you can get a pretty decent start to your day. What I didn't expect was the free "dinners" served in the same location. What I really really didn't expect was wine and two varieties of draft beer (Heineken or Newcastle) flowing at dinner time. Stayed here for a night and I think we got good value for how much we paid! First, the hotel's parking lot basically formed an outer perimeter around the hotel. It was a little tricky for us to find the ideal parking spot for our room when we were initially parking, and the front desk's advice was a little unclear. I think we basically parked where she advised us, but there was no elevator in that location up to our (third floor) room, and we had a decent amount of luggage, so we had to walk all the way to the lobby to take the elevator :) The room itself was pretty nice! Comfy bed, solid utilities, and you have to give the place props for being pet friendly. We were really hungry when we arrived, and the front desk did a good job of providing us with delivery suggestions. We even got a discount on our food order for mentioning that we were associated with Hampton Inn! The food wasn't amazing, but that's a story for a different review :) In the morning, the front desk allowed us a late check-out (12 PM instead of 11 AM), so that was nice. The complimentary breakfast was about as decent as one could expect - nothing incredible, but it got the job done. Overall, I would definitely consider staying here again and/or recommending others to stay here! read more

This is a VERY SPECIAL Hsmpton Inn. The staff seem to truly enjoy each other, the guests, and ensuring that the experience is top notch. A unique offering is 5-7p happy hour of free beer, wine, and soda. They also served a hot chicken and salad to whet the appetite and for some it's a complimentary light dinner. Very clean rooms. The heater put out some not great air but that wasn't enough to take away a star. read more

DIRTY BATHROOM A Fish Rots From the Head Down ...The statement "a fish rots from the head down" means that leadership is the root cause of an organizations failure and demise. Cathy, the manager, does not remember what she tells her guests. Cathy lied that she never offered me what she offered......First night, I checked into a room with a dirty bathroom, she offered points or comp the night and I choose comp and she said she'd take care of this at check out since she will be working the morning I check out. However, at check out, Cathy completely forgets that she made that offer, how convenient. Anthony, the General Manager, does not return calls when I nicely requested (multiple times) to discuss the dirty bathroom situation because the dirty bathroom happened again the third night of my stay. Anthony chose to ignore my request and feedback. Need I say more. read more

I've stayed at this hotel twice. This is the first time I've ever experienced any issues though. I drive an electric charging vehicle and on day 6 the charging station went down. I notified the gentleman at the front desk that the charging station is down after waiting a full 24 hrs to see if it would work & seeing others also struggle to charge their vehicles and was told "the station is on & works but I'll go check it in a second" without even verifying or looking at anything. so I stood in the lobby waiting to see if he would check it as I was on 60 miles left, already missed work & already frustrated with how long it's been down. After waiting a few more minutes I walked away before losing my temper. As a guest I did feel dismissed with my request especially with how long the charging station was down for. I wasn't the only one who complained in the last 24 hours but what's the point of having a front desk person who isn't going to assist in resolving matters like this? It was ridiculous. This Hampton Inn in Princeton is decent & larger than most. The room I got even had a wall bed, room 243. My 1st time seeing one in a hotel. On M-TH, there is evening meal reception included. I was at the Hampton Inn for a wedding in Princeton. The King room was nice enough. It had a softer bed, the room seemed clean (as did the hallway). You could hear a good amount of noise from the hallway in the room. There is a common area in the lobby (where you can also buy wine and beer). We were hanging out there for a bit. Microwave and fridge in the room. Ice machine worked. They had microwavable dinners that you could buy in the lobby and bring up to your room to cook. This seems like a hotel you would stop at on your way somewhere else. Parking was a bit limited the night were were there, but I imagine the wedding but them pretty close to capacity. The lobby staff was very friendly and accommodating. read more

You can't beat the value you get at this hotel. We travel a good amount for soccer tournaments. A lot of time we aren't spending much time at all in a hotel. Often times, using the pool for a bit, showering and sleeping is about it. There were a lot of hotels to choose from along Route 1 in Princeton. Trip Advisor had this hotel rated within the top 2 in the area. It's a somewhat no frills hotel, but they get it right. The staff was friendly, the place itself was not dated and the decor was appealing. It was clean and the rooms were more updated and roomy than I expected them to be. The pool is outside and luckily the weather was very nice. It's not a huge pool, but it fits the bill when it comes to younger kids wanting to take a swim. They have nice outdoor seating, tables around the pool area. It appears they gave some thought to the appearance of the outside area which is nice. They even have a little tiki type bar. The good news about the breakfast...it's included in the price. The bad news is...you get what you pay for. No one is going to walk away saying they are stuffed and satisfied from their choice of food. The eggs...or something egg like were pretty much inedible. Being able to make your own Belgium waffle is a plus. The area in which you sit to eat is nice and clean. When you compare this hotel to the others in the area, the value is just too hard to deny. Now that I have spent a night here, I can see why it's ranked so high. If your main function is to just have a good place to crash, you can't go wrong with this hotel. read more

Having tried most of the hotels along the Brunswick Pike (aka US Hwy 1) this seems about the best balance of quality, price and location. Princeton draws a pretty brainy crowd, mainly newbie parents of undergrads eye-balling the campus they'll be paying through the nose for, and the rest of us who have been doing so for awhile. So the breakfast is geared to what is maybe a more health conscious market, a bit more elaborate and definitely better than the usual pancake/sausage/biscuit powdered egg menu. If there's a downside it's the u-turn you have to make to get over the Pike on your return from campus. read more

The staff were all very friendly and always willing to provide eating locations or quarters for the meters. They have DINNER! Yes, this hotel also provides complimentary dinner. They have a calendar in each room and a description of their dinner service with beer and wine as well. This hotel is a must if you're in the Princeton area. Exercise gurus, beware. There is only one treadmill and one elliptical and a weight machine. No bikes whatsoever, which was a disappointment. read more

Nastiest, rudest, most unhelpful general manager (Lexi Vogel) and front desk manager (Garrett Sargent). We checked in for a two-night stay and went straight to our room. Immediately we noticed how HIGH the bed was. Built on platform with full-depth box spring and extra-deep mattress. No "step" to get in and out safely, no grab bars at bedside. Desk sent up a 4" foldable foot stool, no handle, very unsteady. I went down to the front desk to request room with normal height bed (maybe one ADA accessible, although we are not handicapped). Was told by Garrett that "rooms are all the same." Garrett and Lexi refused to help us find a room at another hotel, and also refused to let us check out and refund our money although we had touched nothing in the room. Their response: "You walked in the room. You have to pay." IF YOU ARE NOT AT LEAST 5'6" TALL, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. Worst customer service ever. In 40 years of traveling all over the country for business, I have never seen a bed this high in any hotel or motel. Bad enough that the bed was so high, but Garrett and Lexi were the WORST! We checked out the next morning and stayed at another hotel with a normal height bed (approximately 7" lower than the bed at Hampton). My advice is to book a reservation at one of the Doubletree hotels in the area--bigger, nicer rooms, normal beds, pleasant personnel. read more

Stayed here while my partner was testing at the Pearson professional center (only a mile away) I picked this hotel so I can take along our 12 pound terrier as they are incredibly accommodating for pets. At check in you will sign a document stating you will be responsible for any mess and/or excessive noise and disruption caused by your pet ($150 fee), but there is no additional pet fee on top of your room cost. There is a lovely grassy area behind the hotel to walk your dog. The continental breakfast was a nice perk. Room was clean and we had a nice little desk and sofa, it was great to have microwave and fridge to save and reheat take-out leftovers. Stayed here for Princeton Reunions. Clean room, clean sheets, free breakfast, clean and functional gym. What made this Hampton Inn stand out, though, was outstanding service. The front desk was extremely helpful throughout the entire stay, with one staff member, Tammy (sp?), offering to personally drive me to campus Sunday morning since shuttle service doesn't officially run on weekends. Ultimately, she and George, the shuttle driver, got the hotel manager to approve a special shuttle ride for me to Princeton Junction. Apart from the shuttle ride, however - the staff here are just a very helpful group who will make your stay feel like home. read more

I recently stayed at this location for a business trip, and it is a great Hampton Inn. Several notes: 1) The location is convenient and easily accessible. 2) Facilities (in the rooms and common areas) are spotless--very clean and well-maintained throughout. 3) Some rooms have a Murphy bed, which is a very unique feature (and something we may see making a comeback in the push to maximize space). 4) It's the only Hampton Inn I have ever heard of that has a dinner offering with drinks. That is truly going above and beyond the brand level (something I would expect from a more expensive tier of hotel and definitely appreciated) 5) The breakfast was standard, but nice. 6) Staff all were friendly and helpful. There was one exception--the breakfast lady on one morning was not keeping up with supplies. It was not that crowded, but she did not seem to be checking or replenishing items. I asked her for milk (because it was empty along with several other areas), and she did fill it up, but seemed annoyed and didn't check anything else in the breakfast area. The older lady on a different day was able to keep up the supplies and also was friendly. 7) There is plenty of parking. Overall, it is a great option for staying in the Princeton area and a very well maintained, well run Hampton Inn. I highly recommend it. read more

The comforters here are awful, all of the fluff is bunched together and is super lumpy. And it's not just the one comforter, we had the first one replaced and the best one they could find was very lumpy as well. It's like I'm sleeping on a mole hill. I can't even believe that this place has ever got less than 5 stars. We stayed here last minute and they were able to immediately accommodate us. The room and halls were all clean, and the staff was helpful. Menus for local restaurants that deliver were given in the rooms. This is was sold us, complimentary dinner and breakfast but at dinner there is free wine, beer and soda. What made it even that much better was that the employees were filling our glasses us without us even asking as if we were at a restaurant. Every one was so nice (not just because they kept the wine flowing). Also at the front desk at night they have complimentary chocolate chip cookies, AMAZING! The gym was clean and was open 24 hours which is also important to me. More expensive then some of the other places near by but for everything they give you for free and the service compared to places near by it is completely worth it. I would definitely come back to this place without any hesitations. read more

This hotel is fairly nice and conveniently located in Hwy 1 north on Princeton. The place has a good breakfast, social and dinner Eve's and the rooms are spacious and pleasant . The lobby is friendly and Cousy and spreads into the breakfast/dinner area. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms seem clean. My only gripe, reason for 4 stars is that the shower stalls are a bit mouldy at the seams and they are caulked over with white caulk. I had different rooms and all seem to be like that read more

We stayed here for Princeton reunions. Staff and facility all geared up for onslaught of alums. Everyone was friendly and helpful; they arranged to ship my crosstrainers which I left behind. I've had terrible luck recovering lost items in hotels in the past, so this was exceptional. Room was well appointed and clean. AC kinda noisy but it's one of those wall units. Fitness center was tidy with decent equipment, though not much. Even the complimentary breakfast was well above average. I'd stay here again. read more

The area where they have the actual food is tiny, so everyone is crammed in the same space. And they ran out of everything often. It was a particularly crowded weekend, which didn't help. The hot food left a lot to be desired though. Stick to baked goods, cereal, or waffles. Otherwise, perfectly fine. Although about a 10 min drive from the shopping area of princeton, it was nice to be able to get away from the craziness a bit too. read more
