Quaint or frumpy? I say frumpy, but maybe Princeton alums would find it nostalgic. The bed was very comfy. Beyond that, some tips: - bring your own lighting, the bathroom lights are inadequate - bring earplugs. Something in the ceiling (plumbing) loudly goes ker-chunk on the regular. - bring eye masks. The smoke alarm blinks brightly all night - bring power strips . The 2 outlets by the beds are filled by table lamp and clock. Even if you crawl around on the old carpet and try to swap your things in, the bedside furniture leaves little room for large plugs. The hotel business is tough, I'm sure. But this will need a major renovation. The area in downtown Princeton is basically a crowded high-end shopping mall of international brands. Lots of loud wedding parties the weekend we were here. Some would find it quaint though -- no lighted signs on stores means the Hermes sign doesn't shine on you. Meh. read more

Mr. X and I ventured to Princeton for a convention this past week. Our host hotel was the Nassau Inn. What a horrific shitshow. Here for a convention. Tried to hang out with friends for a few hours after the meetings. Rude security came by and told us that we could NOT hang out after 11 PM and that the room would be locked up. We see these people about once every 10 years to get together on a different city in the USA. What an asshole-- and I told him so. Gave us the room FURTHEST from the elevators, in the rear of the building. I literally had to walk a city block to get to my room. That is not a joke or exaggeration. I told the front desk that I have sciatica and could they please move me because walking is painful for me. Nope. By the way, the view from my room faces the dumpsters below, and the back of an ugly neighboring building. There are no fridges or microwaves in the rooms. If you want one, it's $15 each per night. No, I'm not kidding. This is a $350 per night hotel. Even Motel 6 has fridges and microwaves. Just wow. The staff with only a couple exceptions are curt and rude. The black boss lady was very nice. She was the best part of the stay. There are no blackout blinds. The sun wakes you up at 6:30 AM. If you manage to sleep through that, the trash truck arrives daily to empty the dumpsters and operate the trash compactor at 7:00 AM. EVERY DAY. Impossible to sleep through. The air conditioners are noisy and the fan shuts off when the cooling isn't running--- with a loud THUD. Woke me up every 5 minutes. There is no switch to tell the fan to keep running all the time which I cannot STAND. So you're sleeping and it's 100% quiet, then all the sudden VROOOMMMMM it comes on... but the best part is when it goes off it sounds like someone dropped a stack of plates. HORRIBLE. Every. Five. minutes. But here's the real killer... We were finished our work a day early, so of course we wanted to check out a day early. $75 charge to leave a day early!! Can you even?? I thought Mr. X was going to have a fantod. It's evidently documented that there is a resident ghost that roams the hallways pushing people down staircases and knocking on doors in the middle of the night. Look it up. One star for the cookies and the mattresses and the nice black manager lady. Everything and everyone else sucked. tl/dr: JUST DON'T!!!!! RUN!!!!! read more

Recently visited the Nassau Inn during the Princeton University Graduation festivities. I attended a banquet dinner on the second floor of the Inn the evening of Memorial Day. I have been to the Nassau Inn previously, but never on the second level where this event was held. The second level has its own bar, and seating both inside of the dining rooms as well as near the bar in the form of chairs and couches. There is also access to an outdoor patio, with more seating, and views of the surrounding areas to take in. Very much enjoyed getting to hang out in this space, and use both the indoor and outdoor areas. The banquet room was set up well - it was not too crowded and felt like there was plenty of room to not sit and socialize. The buffet line was set up in its own room, which helped with the spacing of it all. I enjoyed the food served at the event. The buffet was accessible from both sides, so the line moved quickly. All of the items were good, but I enjoyed the salmon especially. This event sold drink tickets, and those could be redeemed at the bar right outside of the banquet rooms. The bartender was friendly and receptive to any requests. She was the only one, but there was never a long line. We were able to play some media during the event on a projector, and use the equipment on the premise. It all worked well and we had no issue. I am not sure if it is just because it was graduation weekend, or if the pricing is always the same, but it is somewhat pricy to host a banquet at this spot. It was nice, especially for a celebration such as graduation, but definitely a once-in-a-while event for most average folks as opposed to a regular spot. Enjoyed getting to enjoy a new area of the historic place in Princeton on this visit! I would recommend it if you are looking for an event space in the Princeton area! NOTE: This is an overall note of this area of Princeton, but parking is somewhat hard to come by. There is some street parking, but it is more reliable to park in a garage and make the short walk over to the Nassau Inn. read more

The best known hotel at Princeton is, unfortunately, profoundly average. The place is kind of threadbare. It just seems like it had operated for so long as a monopoly that it doesn't know how to upgrade now that there is higher end competition in town. Rooms are perfectly adequate. Individual HVAC units below the window reminiscent of a motel that, at least in my case, we were sufficiently badly maintained that the noise of it turning on woke me up every time. The place is massively convenient and steeped in tradition and history... But don't expect anything special. You couldn't ask for a better location in the heart of Palmer Square but the Nassau Inn would be instantly recognizable to our Founding Fathers as it is desperately in need of updating and new bedding. I would give this hotel 5 stars for its location in Princeton - it's in Palmer Square, and close to a lot of dining and shops, as well as the university itself. However, I gave it 3 stars because based on the expensive room rate I paid, I did expect more: - There is no fridge. - The A/C does not work. - There is no security. Anyone can enter the elevator and go directly to your door. - Staff did not know when breakfast ends, and showed no interest in helping to find out. We stopped in the Yankee Doodle tap room for a beer or 2 last Sunday evening. I didn't look at the price for a pint of IPA, it was the highest price ever I paid, $12 a pint. We each had one and left. The place was dead. Lots of nicer and reasonable places nearby read more

First time staying for a visit with friends and a memorial service. We usually stay at the Hyatt on the freeway, but, based on their winter special rates, decided to stay in the middle of downtown. A lot of negative reviews... maybe we just got lucky. Check-in was easy, let us know that they provide discount parking at 2 area garages. The place is dated, but that's also the charm...and you can't beat the location. Our room on the 2nd floor was small, but clean. Bed was really comfy and though we were overlooking the street, Princeton really rolls up the streets at night as it was perfectly quiet. We actually booked a king and were given a queen, only major negative. Shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water (you think that should be standard anywhere, but not always!!). The Inn has a really nice reading area above reception, really captures the period. All in all, walking distance to everything in Princeton, the Yankee Doodle Tap Room is perfect for a super casual lunch or dinner. Certainly not a 5 star hotel, but for convenience and if you take advantage of their specials, certainly worth the stay. read more

Bed was incredibly comfortable. I slept exceptionally well. Honestly I wish I could stayed a couple extra nights for this bed. Room is a bit dated but it added to the charm for me. I liked the suite style bedroom/living separation. No room service on Tuesday around 7 Pm; I think the restaurant was closed. This was a bummer, as I had planned to get it but didn't see if it was open in Tuesday (my fault but still bummed ha) Right in the middle of town but I didn't see anyone else mention that it's also literally next to Princeton. A block away, so if you're visiting Princeton, it's walking distance for sure. read more

What a dump! Old and tired and staff that is clueless! We checked in after an 8 hour travel day. Got to the room - toilet is running, damp, and won't flush. Shlep down, with our luggage, to the front desk. Oh sure...we'll get you a better room, with a great view. Back upstairs, with luggage, to a room a mile from the elevator, with a much smaller bathroom and a view of a construction sight (that was one of the benefits of the new room - the view). Wait, no bottles of water? Back to the front desk for two bottles. Back to the room. No ice bucket? Oh sure, we'll send one up. No top on it. And the ice is back at the elevators. The air conditioner? Every time it cycles, it emits a loud clunk - great for sleeping, right? I'm sure they have a captive audience based on location to the campus. It shows. My husband and I stayed here for a wedding over the weekend . The hotel is very cute and has historical charm . It was very convenient that the venue was on site with the hotel . My only compliant was that I called for linens late at night and no one came to give us fresh ones . Came here for something business related and really enjoyed my stay! The location is excellent, the staff were pleasant, and the room was comfy. The restaurant connected with the inn was also pretty nice, with decent service and tasty food. All of that being said, I didn't have to personally pay for my room, and honestly, the price tag is kind of absurdly high. I can't really imagine staying here and paying ~$300+ a night, even though the location is extremely convenient. So taking into account the price, I have to lower my rating by a star. read more

Historic hotel. One of the two hotels by Princeton Univ. campus. I stayed here bc of the location in Palmer Sq. There are tons of places to eat and walk to nearby. The hotel is a bit dated: carpet, bedding, shower handle, elevator, and there is little cell phone reception. But the room and hotel were clean, everything worked, and it was a comfortable stay. I would stay again at the same price and if I had to be up somewhere in the morning. There was a special rate online when I booked through their website. Check-in desk people were friendly and helpful. The room I had was pretty wide. It had a king sized bed in it and plenty of space to move around. The desk is huge. The nightstands are a good size and appreciated. Nothing rolling off. I had to knock off a couple stars bc you cannot sleep in. The noise from construction comes right through the window where the ac unit is. They are blasting concrete and the traffic noise is also loud. I could hear a car honk and big trucks passing. Also, there are renovations within the hotel happening on the other side of my room. Also drilling noises like for screws into walls in the morning. Check-out is at 11am so that doesn't give you much time in the morning to do something and come back (unless you are a morning person). I feel stressed out. Parking decks nearby but not attached to the hotel. So don't pack too much stuff. You'd have to haul it all back and forth. Minor things: 1) There was water dripping around one of the handles of the bathroom faucet but amazingly, the water went down the sink instead of accumulating on the counter. It is also a fixable problem. 2) Only one electrical outlet spot open by the bed. It is behind the mattress under the headboard. Not easy to get to, and if you drop something, good luck. read more

A beautiful place with great food, the Nassau Inn has small rooms that are clean and well-kempt. Oddly enough, the sinks are too high for the average person and there are no black-out curtains. Be prepared to find a lot of outside light coming into your room. The internet has issues. Thankfully, Rosie at the front desk put her exceptional customer service skills to use and saved the day. Stayed one night for a business trip. This was my third time staying at the Nassau Inn. Previous times, the overall experience was meh to okay (though, considering the high prices, this meant pretty poor value). This time was terrible overall, even without taking into account the insanely high prices. GOOD As always, the Nassau Inn has the best location for accommodations in all of Princeton. This won't change. There are no other hotels downtown and the very few AirBnBs near downtown are awful. Room was reasonably clean, though could have been better. BAD Had a room near the elevator and discovered that rooms are not at all soundproof. Blinds in the room were completely broken and wouldn't go down so, even though we got in late, we were woken up with the dawn. The facilities are in disrepair. There was clear water damage around the window frame (regret not snapping a photo) and pretty significant paint peeling/cracking in both the bedroom and the bathroom. Mattresses are very soft--this isn't necessarily bad since some folks might like that but if you've got any back issues, be warned. Prices were near $400 a night for a standard room, which is just absurd. You could get a MUCH nicer place in the heart of Manhattan for less. TERRIBLE Service was unbelievably bad. Our first interaction at the front desk was awful, with the person checking us in being shockingly hostile. I generally let things like this go because I've worked service jobs and know how draining they can be and how rude and unreasonable customers can be, especially at higher-price venues. It's normal to have bad days or be exhausted by clients. But the response we got from the employee at the front desk was shocking. It was the kind of attitude that, if you gave to someone on the street, you'd have to expect you might soon be throwing hands. Was provided no information about checkout/parking/breakfast/room location/etc. And questions to get that information were treated like a tremendous affront. Recommend staying at one of the places near the highway and just driving the extra bit into Princeton. read more

What's not to like about old world charm backed by an exceptional staff and located in the center of a beautiful vibrant town! Every year and for many years the lovely wife and I look forward to a massive corporate Christmas party here. This year there were over 200 attendees! We're talking a huge reception with every kind of horderves imaginable served both buffet style and by wait staff. Of course there was an open bar. This is followed by a multi-course plated dinner. As you might imagine this kind of event puts a tremendous strain on the staff of any venue. Every year we are "touched" by many types of staff. Bartenders, servers, bus persons, managers and others as well. There is only one word for these folks and that is exceptional! Kudos to management for a job well done. The food served this year was very good and far better than typical Christmas party fare. If you looked around the room at dinner you would see lots of smiling faces as folks savored each bite. Every year the spaces we use are beautifully maintained and decorated. If you like old historic buildings this is the place for you. If I was planning an event in the area these folks would be on my short list. read more

Was here for a rehersal dinner over the weekend and had a pretty bad experience. First of all. I parked my car right out front and put quarters in the meter right away. Then ran up to the room to drop off my bags and came back out (it was pouring) to top off the meter to make sure I was okay until the 8pm timing and already had a ticket on my window...WTF? Then, I read what the ticket said and I think because my front wheels were slightly over the white lines...$40! I guess the town of Princeton is hating on my NY plates : ( ANYWAY...despite that lovely welcome...the food here was not so great. I ordered mushroom ravioli and they somehow managed to overcook the dish - I mean it was so dry that there was no sauce left on my plate. Do not stay at this hotel. It is terrible! It's about the worst place I have ever stayed, certainly not worth the exorbitant price tag. I would have given a zero rating if possible. Zero for service, zero for cleanliness, zero for responsiveness, zero for ambiance, and zero for value. The only thing this place has going for it is the location right outside of Princeton University in Palmer Square. The staff are not knowledgeable, friendly or helpful at all. The front desk does not pick up the phone in a timely manner and when they do, they are uncaring and have a couldn't-be-bothered attitude. We actually had a cockroach in our room (picture included). I didn't want to make a huge ruckus so I simply called to say that we are leaving for the day so please make sure to deep clean the room to get rid of the critter. When we came back that night, the room cleaning was done but what did I find again in the bedroom--the cockroach!! I called the front (took 5+min for them to pick up, another 5+ min on hold) and asked them to change our room. They said they were full and couldn't do that. No solutions offered. I then said, please have someone come up to take care of the situation. They said they would inform the cleaning people. 10 min later, nothing. I called again and demanded someone come up. They said the cleaning people have to get something before coming up so they can take care of it. After another delay (all the while we are staring at the cockroach hoping it doesn't move!), 2 ladies show up with...gloves! No vacuum or anything that they "had to get." They did get the critter in the end but it was an ugly experience. At checkout I asked for the manager Kyle but he "was busy." I left him a message to call me back and am still waiting (several days later) for his call. Other notable mentions--gross maple sap smell in the room, hot water took a solid 5 min to show up, tiny (I mean tiny!) bathroom, vending machine "sold out" the entire stay, sullen and unhelpful staff...I could go on. Please save your money and more importantly, your peace of mind--I recommend you look elsewhere. Do not stay here! read more

My bed was so comfortable I didn't want to check out The hotel is historic and has such wonderful charm. The Christmas decorations were the icing on the cake, its like a little hallmark town. Engineering keyed into our room without a knock at 5am opening the door and scaring the entire family. While using my foot to insure he wouldn't come in I asked how he was able to open the door he replied with a master key. While likely an honest mistake it was acknowledged by the front desk when we called immediately that he supposed to be a different floor and said they would call engineering. There was no check in back with us afterwards. During checkout my wife mentioned the evenings event to the front desk and received a response of "oh". French onion soup was as if yesterday's bread leftovers were soaked in a bit of broth with acres of cheap string cheese. Soggy and forgettable. I could say more, but why? It was disgusting. Not soup. Like a bowl of leftovers. Salads were unimaginative and forgettable. Like a bag of salad from local grocery store. Except they forgot which dressing suited which greens. Who wants to eat there if everything is focused on making you leave to rush on for the next table? Salads were drowsy, wilted, nothing. Burgers were served on forgettable overstuffed buns with average meat and no greens. Fries were droopy and oil soaked, not even hot, not even salty, so we left them. Honestly. What is going on there? I was in the Princeton area for business and got recommended the Nassau Inn. It is not a bad hotel but it feels quite outdated and not really a business hotel but maybe this is intentionally? The room was spacious and clean so I would say it meets the basic hotel standards, in addition, they have quite an array of bathroom amenities. However, the room feels old fashioned - in a tired way, not in a charming way! One of my pet peeves in hotels is that they have no electricity plugs near the bed for guests to use without moving a whole lot of furniture. The rooms in the Nassau Inn take this annoyance to the next level, they have no visible outlets in the room, not even next to the desk! Another remark is that I did not find all staff very hospitable. For starters, after I got seated in the breakfast area, I was ignored for 20 mins... Another example is that when my colleagues and I asked if we could use one of their meeting rooms after hours to discuss some business topics and the front desk staff could only give us an email address of a booking service which was closed so our immediate need was not resolved. Sure, the location is good but the execution of the customer experience at this hotel was average at best. Friends of ours had urged us to try to book a room at the Nassau Inn, when they heard we would be visiting in Princeton. They told us it was the best place to stay, if we liked wonderful service, great accommodations and wanted to be in the heart of downtown Princeton. The first time we visited, we tried to make a reservation, every room was booked. For this trip, we reserved a room a few weeks in advance and we had such an exceptional experience that we intend to make sure that we reserve we'll in advance of our future visits. Our room was spacious,very quiet, and surprisingly reasonably priced. The front desk's staff especially Brookelynn and Jessica Mount went out of their way to make us feel truly welcomed and pampered. The Inn doesn't have its own Parking lot but they have a great relationship with two nearby garages so it isn't a hassle looking for parking and it's also reasonably priced! They had great complementary coffee in the lobby and while I hear they offer great breakfasts, we did not dine in their restaurant. However, we are looking forward to many more opportunities to stay at the Nassau Inn! read more
