This was a very nice place to stay. Everybody on the staff was nice and friendly. It is pet friendly and that includes cats. I didn't have any, but that's nice to know for others. It is centrally located near shopping and lots of restaurants. There is free parking and it's a huge parking lot. They had lots of luggage carts if you need them unlike some hotels. The room was very clean, well lit, the Internet was excellent. There was a few problems with the DIRECTV, but that's not the hotels fault so that's not a big deal to me. It was well equipped with toilet paper and paper towels, and the shower and tub and everything worked great. I was very happy with my stay and would give it 10 stars if I could read more

I had a nice weekend stay at this Hampton location. It's located in a mini strip mall that is within walking access to a Chipotle, Red Lobster, and a couple of other restaurants. I will say that the front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful every day. I had a room on the fifth floor (the top floor of the building) but it happened to be located on the front of the building. I note this because, on my last night, it was snowing so there were multiple snow plows out and I could hear every.single.one. Needless to say, I barely got any sleep on my last night. Otherwise, my room was clean and had everything I needed. As is typical of Hampton Inns, they provide a 'free' daily breakfast. It consisted of the typical waffles, oatmeal, muffins/bagels/pastries, cereal, and hot food (eggs/breakfast meat). For my two days, I stuck with the oatmeal, fruit, and coffee. My experience was vastly different from these reviewers. I arrived at the hotel after a 5 hour drive down from Connecticut (thank you rush hour traffic), to be greeted with vomit at the entrance and half naked guest roaming to exterior of the property. The front desk agent was not rude but she certainly was not welcoming. I chose this property because I needed 2 adjoining rooms for myself and my children. What I was offered were 2 rooms on different floors or 2 rooms across the hall from each other. When I inquired about the possibility of a suite I was told I could take it or leave it. I chose to leave it. I have always enjoyed my stays at the Marriott properties but this property is a hard pass. When I asked the desk agent if there were any other Marriott properties in the immediate vicinity, she said "I don't know of any". I drove 10 minutes down to Somerset and took a suite at the Homewood Suites - Hilton property. 100% improvement. read more

Beds and pillows are super comfy. - Great location with dining and shopping nearby, much within walking distance. - breakfast at Hampton inns are usually pretty good for on the go but at this location it was slightly better. The eggs were fluffy omelettes with cheese on top - coffee was hot and full-bodied. - there wasn't one person that didn't greet us with a hello or a how you doing while we stayed here. - there's a huge wall hanging at the entrance that says "making you happy makes us happy " That pretty much sums up our experience here. We were made to feel like our business was appreciated. Sorry but I had to deduct one star when the cleaning staff knocked and entered without hearing me say " please do not come in". Well she came in anyway and left when she saw my face. Outside she said "you're checking out, right". Standard Hampton Inn with super friendly service and a free breakfast. Rooms are what you'd expect to find at any Hilton property. But what really got me was the sanitary wipes for the TV remote! I know how filthy they usually are at hotels and is why I usually carry my own wipes; but, for the unseasoned traveler, you might now know. To have that offered made me very happy. In all my years of living in hotels while traveling for work, I've only ever seen this a handful of times. Kudos to you South Plainfield Hampton! This location is probably one of the preferred. It's in the area of a variety of food and retail stores. Parking is complimentary. The cleanliness during the Covid 19 is worth 5 stars. The way the complimentary breakfast is handled was appeasing. I've stayed in hotels where a brown paper bag is provided. This location provides a paper where you select your entree, fruit & beverage. I thank the staff for the commitment during these unprecedented times to provide excellent customer service. I will definitely be staying in these location again. read more

This place is, in one word, amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and all of them seem to genuinely care that the guests have a pleasant stay there. I came here with my parents to stay for about a week while we scoured the east coast area, and they were extremely accomodating. (We also happened to snag one of those super awesome 24-hour deals, so it was something like $40/night.) Free breakfast provided every morning from 5 a.m.-10 a.m., and they try to change up the hot foods every day (e.g. cheese omelets, turkey sausage, French toast...). There's also instant oatmeal, muffins, English muffins, bagels and breads (along with a place to toast them), juice, coffee, 7-8 types of teas, eggs, oatmeal, yogurt and fruits. (There are also waffle irons, but they don't always have waffle batter.) If you don't have time to sit down and eat, they offer to-go bags on the weekdays that you can just grab on the way out. Throughout the day, I think the tea/coffee and fruit remain, and there's also popcorn and cookies (provided they don't run out) near the front. There's a business center that can be accessed with your key card where you can go on the internet and print stuff if you need to. There's also a fitness center that's open until midnight every day (it has some cardio equipment and a couple benches, but better than nothin'!) and a heated outdoor pool that is open if the weather isn't being a pain in the butt. Free wifi is also available for all guests (they give you an access code), which is also a big plus. There's free mouthwash, shampoo, shower gel, moisturizer, hand soap, and soap for yo' face, and there's a sign that says that if you don't have a toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving cream, a razor...they've got you covered; you can go to the front desk and ask for a complimentary package. There's also an iron/ironing board, so that's also kinda cool. Seriously, this is an awesome place. :O If you ever need a place to stay in NJ (oh em gee, I'm a poet and I didn't know it!), you should come here. We had to check out at something like 3 a.m. in the morning and they sent someone to come up with the bill at that hour so we could check out instantly. The people are awesome here. :] read more

This hotel is excellent. I stayed with them for over 4 months and from day 1 they were friendly, fast and extremely efficient in whatever they did. The front desk staff was awesome. William and Romeo, the night desk staff were very attentive and caring regarding my stay. Merell was the day desk staff and she was incredible. Her attitude and her infectious spirit always helped start my day positively. Iralis was my house keeper for the majority of my stay and always kept the room sparkling. After a day or two, Iralis always had what i needed before i even had to ask! This was my home for over 4 months and all the staff quickly became my family! I was very grateful to have stayed at this spectacular hotel and could not have imagined staying anywhere else for my travels. Hotel was always clean. Parking lot was always clean. They include breakfast with your stay. We had options of breakfast sandwhiches, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, fruit cups, juices or bottled water. Location is perfect-right off 287. I am so glad I decided to stay at The Hampton Inn instead of the neighboring Holiday Inn. Normally we stay with family when we come to town but due to our in laws moving we needed a last minute place to stay for the holiday weekend. I went with the consensus from fellow Yelpers and made a reservation at Hampton Inn. The service here was top notch. Every interaction my boyfriend and I had with a staff member was met with genuine pleasure and delight. Every time we left or returned to the hotel we were friendly greeted. I also enjoyed the beautiful holiday decor and snacks in the lobby. Our room was spacious, clean and warm. The bed was super comfortable and plush. It was super cold in Jersey while we there so the extra blankets and electronic thermostat got tons of use. The complimentary breakfast gave you lots of options and was quite good. The gym was small but had the basics for whay we needed for our short stay. The location is prime, close to restaurants, stores and the highway. If we ever need a hotel again when we come into town, I will be staying at the Hampton Inn! read more

I personally enjoyed my stay at the Hampton Inn. The beds were comfy, they had Neutrogena products in the bathrooms, and plenty of tv options (HBO). The bad thing was that right outside the hotel, while walking to Chipotle (less than a block between the two) I was catcalled from a car. So please be cautious in the area just in case. The other negative thing was that one of my coworkers was assigned a room that already had a guest. She walked in to find their clothes laid out on the bed. This made me really uneasy while in my room because I was nervous that someone might be given a key to my room. Overall, I wouldn't stay here on vacation but I would stay here for business purposes again. read more

This place. Yikes. I stayed here for an event due to it's proximity to the venue. My company paid for my room as well as several VIP event speakers. No problems for me at check-in. However, when a speaker arrived around 10 p.m. they realized the card on file (the same one I checked in under) was expired. Instead of checking the speaker in and discretely handling the payment with me, they woke me up, made me change out of pajamas and go to the lobby where the speaker waited awkwardly for 20 minutes while I called our CFO to get a new card. When I got a new card number they wouldn't accept it without a signed/scanned form (which our CFO couldn't do because they were traveling as well), even after I promised to get it to them the following day. Eventually they allowed it--with the alternative being kicking us out on the streets--but not before the front desk attendant made her annoyance very clear. I suppose it was partially my fault for not confirming the card upon arrival but overall just an awkward situation handled rather poorly. Fast forward two nights: I'm getting dropped off by my Uber around 7 p.m. The entire property is pitch black outside. I can't see and trip on a curb, accidentally dropping my phone and shattering the screen. Great. There's a few lights on inside where the front desk informs me their power is out. Okay, not their fault. I'm told I need to climb 7 flights of stairs (in heels, after standing all day) because the elevator is out. No backup generator for the elevator I guess. Luckily I'm able bodied so I deal. I get to my room and realize there's also no internet or TV. I was planning on getting some work done and prepping for my event, but that wasn't happening. Fine. I take a shower and am in bed by 8. Roll around to midnight when I awake to shrieking fire alarms. I end up in the parking lot, in my pajamas, no makeup, bedhead, with all of my VIP event attendees and speakers. The situation was literally a reoccurring nightmare of mine come to life. We sit outside in the rain for 45-minutes before they let us back in. While I was sleeping they slid a note under the door that provided zero explanation for the false alarm, and instead congratulated themselves on their commitment to safety. I noticed before I left that there were large signs in the closets that said not to stack items on the shelf or it would set off the alarm--I'm guessing a guest unintentionally set it off. Pretty big (and weird?) design oversight. I travel a few times a month for work and have never really had a hotel cause me embarrassment or inconvenience, certainly not repeatedly, and certainly not without an apology. Perhaps it was a perfect storm of events. Regardless, paired with it's undesirable location and mediocre ambiance, I'd give it a hard pass. (Two stars for the morning front desk employee with the Jamaican accent who was super sweet, and the free popcorn in the lobby. Talk about saving grace.) read more

TERRIBLE beds. And the air duct blows directly over the bed. Awful design. Both my husband and I fidgeted all night because of the slunky bed and going from being too cold to too hot and back several times. And when the fan kicks in, because the vent is above the bed it sounds like a jet engine starting up. We finally got up hours before we needed to, to relieve our aching backs and get out of the wind tunnel. And another thing... thread-bare towels. What? I've stayed at dozens of Hampton Inns and I've never experienced such a miserable bed or this air vent issue. These are issues I would expect from lesser brands, but not Hampton Inn, and definitely not from a Hilton property. The staff is friendly, for sure, and you can put lipstick on a pig, but in the end- if the design and furniture of the facility don't facilitate a pleasant sleep, your stay is detrimental rather than enjoyable- or worth the expense. If you're a Hilton person there are plenty other options in the area, and if not, you pass a Holiday Inn and a Best Western to get into this property. You're not going to find a quality experience here, so why not choose a lesser brand for less money, or a different Hilton property where your expectations might be met. read more

Great experience at Hampton inn. Check in was easy. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Rooms were neat, and bed was extremely comfortable. Usually I'm an early riser, but this bed done its job and allowed me to sleep. Breakfast was typical breakfast buffet set up for chain hotels. No complaints there. Location is right on Stelton road where you have access to plenty of restaurants and stores, and of course easy access to 287. I would definitely stay here on my next visit to the area and recommend this spot. read more

The Hampton Inn is not a luxury hotel but is about as good as it gets in terms of a nice, clean, standard hotel. Where they excel is in customer service. I've stayed in high-end hotels all over the country and I don't think I've ever encountered a friendlier, more responsive staff. This was true of everyone we saw over the course of 2 days. If you want a clean, comfortable room, and friendly staff, this is the place. Why 3 stars? Some small things, but things that add up to me. In the fitness room, which is small but okay, there is a TV that faces nothing. You can't watch it while on any of the cardio equipment. The EFX machine has its own TV, but the channel listing on the wall in front of you is for the TV you can't watch. The one on the machine has no listing, so you'll have to just click through lots of channels to find the few worth watching. And the sound comes only through a phono jack (appropriate), but bring your own earphones/earbuds. The sign on the wall says that complimentary earbuds are provided, but there were none in the room. But my bigger complaints were with breakfast. Rubbery eggs (you know the kind, microwaved). Never bacon (I stayed a week). Largely breads/starches. Omelettes, when provided, are precooked with cheese (I don't eat cheese), not great. The oatmeal was the one decent main item. Bananas were good quality, just ripe. As a plus, they have hot water and coffee in the lobby 24/7. But the teabags they provide are Bigelow, my least favorite. A decent tea is only a few cents more a cup. About 10 minutes away is Sal's diner, however, and they open at 5:30 am and you can get an awesome breakfast for under $10 including beverage. Wish I'd found that out at the beginning of my stay, rather than suffering breakfast at the hotel. Oh, and BTW, they have the TV in the dining area set to MSNBC for morning news, which to me is cruel and unusual punishment. read more

Heater/AC in room did not work. They wanted to have maintenance replace the whole unit after 9 pm. After driving for 10 hours with 2 kids this was not feasible. They were fully booked and had no other room to move us to. But hey there's free breakfast?...Right?...And the Holliday Inn next to us is on fire! So I'm stuck here in the cold! Them eggs better be hot! Ooohhhhh and crispy bacon. I'm probably going to take some extra pastries and bacon. Gonna need the extra fat to keep warm. Clean and remodeled rooms. This is a nice hotel. It is very clean and comfortable and nicely decorated. If I were to improve this hotel, I would first do something about the doors. They are very loud when they close making it difficult to sleep if other gets enter or leave their rooms. It would also be nice if they had flat screen TVs intstead of old CRTs. The addition of a little fridge and microwave would be a big plus. Some of the staff were top notch while others were bordering on worthless. The free breakfast was a nice added touch as were the nice towels and little bottles of toiletries. Would I stay here again? Probably, but if I could get a deal on room at a nearby Hilton, I would go there instead. read more

I drove from Chicago, checking in fairly late. In my limited experience, late-night check-ins can be problematic; the staff are usually anxious to get you out of there so they can go back to sleep or television-watching. Checking in here was a pleasure; the night staff every bit as good as the day staff, who were terrific. I'd asked for a feather-free room, and it was completely feather-free. The cotton duvet was comfortable, and there was an extra woven blanket in the closet just in case. Laundry room was impeccable, lint filters emptied and washers clean inside as well as out. Free soap at the front desk is a nice touch. Fresh-popped popcorn in the lobby, the regular Hampton Inn 24/7 coffee and ice water. Breakfasts - mind you, it was the weekend - featured hard-boiled eggs as well as omelettes or scrambled (the scrambled were much better IMHO), sweet pastries, assorted breads and bagels and muffins, salsa (very nice touch!), decent enough sausage patties, cereals, even oatmeal. The young man in charge of the breakfast area worked as hard as anyone I've ever seen. This Hampton also provides trays so you can easily carry food back to your room, a nice touch. The room was spacious and bright. I loved that in addition to the desk and chair, there was also a comfortable upholstered chair and hassock. I'd requested a fridge, called to double check, and it was there when I checked in -- already cold, again an unusual touch and very welcome. I'd chosen a king bed with whirlpool bath, and while it was a little disconcerting to see the giant tub when I first walked in, I was grateful to be able to luxuriate in the hot water after my long drive, then immediately dry off and climb into bed! Minor quibbles - as with most newer hotels these days, the sink is so high that no one under six feet would find it comfortable. Next morning I discovered the desk chair was very low, so low I thought it was broken. They immediately brought another, but the engineer and I discovered they were all like that. To my knowledge, America is not the tallest country in the world - far from it - so I'm at a loss to understand the move toward high sinks and low desk chairs, but I've seen it many times these past years. I'm all for ecology, but I really do like that the sheets here are changed daily. The hotel staff were absolutely the friendliest - and most helpful - I've seen in years. When I came in late and wanted a yogurt, the desk clerk said while he didn't have keys to the breakfast fridge, he could show me what was available in the main refrigerator. Above and beyond, I would say! Everyone involved with this hotel, from the cleaning people to the management, were like that. For a business traveler like myself, constantly searching for obvious plugs so I don't leave anything behind, the four easily-available plugs at the desk plus the combo AC/USB at bedside were an unexpected treat, and very smart planning on someone's part. Nightstands on either side of the bed were also welcome. The pool is very small, as is the area around it - the photos are a bit deceptive there - but pleasant enough on a hot summer day.Tons of shopping malls around, and at the desk clerk's recommendation, I ordered sandwiches and salads from Healthy Garden Cafe, which were delivered promptly, exactly as requested. When I found out we were staying at a Hampton Inn on a business trip I was bummed because the only thing good about business travel is staying in a nice hotel and I didn't think a Hampton was going to be nice but I WAS SO WRONG. This is the nicest Hampton Inn I've ever been in. The rooms are beautiful and clean and the staff is absolutely the most courteous and customer-service oriented I've ever seen. I especially want to note the manager Javier. He learns your name even if you're only staying one night! He was everywhere. I even saw him wearing an apron one morning and sweeping the floors. We had a box of meeting materials delivered before we arrived and when he picked it up to give it to us it fell apart and papers went everywhere. This was our fault for using a crappy box, but he not only picked them all up, he sorted them back into the order we'd put them. Way above and beyond. Highly recommend this hotel. read more

Front desk was rude! Asked to talk to to the manager but they were not available but would call me. That never happened. Shame because its really a nice place but one nasty clerk can ruin your stay. Hotel needs to get control of their employees and give them some skills to deal with the public. read more
