Attended the French Caribbean wine dinner with friends. We cleaned our plates on every single course. The crudo, the fritter, the sea bass main course and sweet potato dessert were all delicious. I mean perfectly delicious. The starting and ending cocktail were also perfectly balanced and delicious. We will be attending more pre set wine dinners in the future. We just had lunch at Hampton Street Vineyard. The food and service was horrible. We waited over 1 hour and 45 for our food and once we got it was ice cold. It was lunchtime during the week and waiting that long for food that was cold is inexcusable. i would not recommend this restaurant unless you want cold food and a long wait. Also when we asked for bread because it was taking so long to get our food they did bring butter. It also took over 20 minutes to get a basket of bread. read more

Stopped in here for a weekday lunch while exploring Columbia, SC. The place was sort of difficult to find as it is below street level and the awnings are a bit ripped and faded. The inside though was really nice, lots of dark wood and a decent (if not small) bar right to the left of the entrance. We were seated in a quiet corner and waited on quickly. The food ordered was good I ordered the 3 seafood patties (Salmon cake, Crab Cake, and Crawfish cake) served with Hare covert and linguini. My dining companion ordered the hanger steak with cabernet chipotle glaze. The seafood cakes were good..the steak was excellent! Perfectly cooked. Although the restaurant is small the wine list was pretty nice. Our server was attentive but knew when to leave us alone which is always a positive in my book. I had the opportunity to enjoy and share the wonderful bill of fare with my family following my daughters graduation from the Univ of South Carolina. In addition to an award winning wine list - the menu and choices are out-of-this-world! We started with the flash fried oysters (yummy) and followed up with four wonderful entrees: Seared Honey Dijon Glazed Salmon; Seared Ahi Tuna set on dressed baby greens and a wasabi yuzu drizzle; Pan Seared Breast of Duck with a Moscato plum glaze and Brined and Grilled Pork Tenderloin set on grilled polenta. We shared all meals and I must say, all four were superb. Our waiter, Steve - originally from Philadelphia really made the dining experience one to remember. The Vineyard is a great choice if you are looking for an upscale restaurant in the heart of the Capitol. The atmosphere is cozy. Candlelit tables and polished hardwood indoors, and a comfortable patio setting with plant arrangements out. The noise level can be a bit higher than most upscale restaurants during dinner service, but is very much tolerable. The food service and staff were great and left little to be desired. The food was excellent. We started with an appetizer of duck liver mousse, which was "not bad," but just wasn't for us. However, for my entree I ordered the special of the night, a pan-seared monkfish. It was, by far, the best fish entree I have eaten in my life. I would order that everyday if I could. To conclude the night, we shared a Sherri and a Creme Brûlée for dessert, which paired excellently together. The only set back of the night was our bill. A little under $100 for two is just too pricey given the area and the alternatives nearby. Overall, The Vineyard is a great choice for those special occasions, just be sure to check the bank account before heading out the door. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. read more

We had a good meal here. The cocktails were about 4oz and nicely prepared. They started the table with a refreshing amuse bouche. We ordered a cheese plate for the table. I had the foie gras, which wasn't properly cleaned; there was a large vein still in the lobe, but it was nicely seared and the sweet/acid balance was spot on. Our main courses were ratatouille, bouillabaisse and the steak. The sides we ordered were the duck fat mashed potatoes, broccolini and asparagus. The potatoes sounded good, but lacked seasoning and the duck fat tasted a bit old. Not quite rancid, but it definitely had a funk to it. Chelsea, one of the owners, acted as our sommelier. She was fantastic! We had a great bottle of Cotes du Rhone that complimented all entrees. I would definitely go back again. read more

Short and sweet... we ordered the crab cake and fried oyster apps... hands down BEST we've ever had... anywhere... ever!!! Perfectly cooked, and so fresh! If my rating were based solely on the apps... 5 stars easy!!! For entrees we ordered the shrimp risotto (wasn't impressed, I was hoping for more of a creamy white based sauce, but it was brown and more gravy like... I hate gravy) and the pan roasted duck (again, nothing to write home about). Note: from the time we finished our apps to the time our entrees were brought out... we waited almost 40mins... never once did our server stop by to say "sorry for the wait" or "your dishes will be up shortly" - I know she has no control over the kitchen... but it would have been nice to be kept in the loop. Our server was very polite and friendly, but my bf's water cup was on E for at leassssst 30 mins while we dined... other servers kept walking by our table with the water pitcher refilling their patrons' glasses... she didn't notice his was empty until she was coming to ask if we wanted dessert pretty much. Went to this spot for dinner with my mother. Small and quaint we were seated right away and had a good server who took care of us promptly. When we asked him how long has the restaurant been open my mother and I were both surprised to know that it had been opened for over 20 years! We jumped right into our meal. For a table entree we had a red curry braised pulled pork with potatoes. It was enough to make a meal for one person and it was very good. I had a pork chop with potatoes and kale (yes I doubled up on it). Both were good and I'd recommend it. All of the entrees looked good! Ambiance: very nice . Food: small portions with high $$$. I understand French resturant nice enviornment. What was not good was the food. Ex: Lunch salad with salmon had undiscernable dressing if any. Mussels sent back for being served cold. Grilled chicken sandwich was cold, tastless and dry. The bun was dry and hard. It was the size of a slider. This applies to the hambuger bun also.Scallions aioli, pickles tastless, gruyère cheese was another barely to no show. Thanks to waiters suggestion, only redeeming value was crispy potatoes. Gave two stars ONLY because of waiter and the potatoes.Tthe kindest thing I can say is I was disappointed and embarassed for reccomending Hampton Vinyards. Will not make the same mistake twice. Such a delight to find that this was across the street from my hotel. My friend and I had a delicious 30 dollar bottle of wine, and had an amazing fried goat cheese appetizer. A real gem in downtown. It is easy to miss but well worth the effort to find. Located on Hamilton St across from the Marriott, you will find the Hamilton St Vineyard in a basement down a few steps. They do have a few sidewalk tables to clue you in. I had the NY Strip which was cooked to perfection. My wife had the salmon which was thick, moist and tender, nicely seasoned. The curry sauce had just the right amount of "kick". Service was great. Strongly suggest reservations, although we were able to walk in pretty early on a Tuesday evening, it got pretty busy as the evening went on. read more

Very tasty, and a decent sized portion. The bread. Nice multigrain stuff, not stingy with it. The wine. No help from the staff (see below) the wines we chose were definitely good. Misses: Server not very helpful in choosing wines. Weird when "Vineyard" is part of your name. The cheese plate. Too expensive for Publix quality romano, cheddar and feta. Seriously, feta? I didn't love this place, but I didn't hate it either. The decor is a bit Italian restaurant dated-- stucco faux finished walls and cherry wood. Decor would have been an afterthought if the food was exceptional, but it just wasn't. The highlight was most definitely the charcuterie board. They cure the meats in house. I liked every single one but the pate and the honey truffle butter definitely stick out as my favorites. For entree's I tried the shrimp and pasta (I 86'ed the shrimp and subbed scallops) and hubs got the fish du jour. The sauce of the pasta was tasty, but the pasta itself was grainy (like wheat but not ground fine enough for pasta) and a bit north of al dente to my liking. The scallops, while cooked to perfection had sand. Hubs said the fish was overcooked but the side of quinoa was great. Another overall aspect to the dishes was salt. Just way too much. Go for the nice selection of wines and charcuterie. read more
