It's been forever since I visited Sizzle, like pre-Covid long. It's not that I haven't thought about it, but it was usually on a Saturday which is when they are closed. It looks the same, super simple counter with some tables if you'd want to eat in. Prices have definitely gone up, but the platters were filling and satisfying. Their falafel is delicious, crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside with wonderful flavors. The chicken shwarma was also great. The platter comes with lots of salads as well as pita, hummus and tahini on the side. The carrot salad and the creamy purple cabbage were my favorites, the pickles are also not to be missed. The only disappointment was the cucumber/tomato salad which was not great. I was so happy to enjoy their food again and I need to remember it on days other than Saturdays. read more

Had a promising lunch take out order today. Chicken shawarma, baba ghanoush, rice, falafel, potato cigars and pita. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. I leave off the 5th star for a few reasons. One, you might have to call a few times to get someone to pick up the phone. Two, their full menu wasn't available today. Three, they forgot to include any sauces in my order despite having asked for them. That said it's definitely worth another visit. Hopefully they have lamb next time! read more

For $8.50, I scored a falafel sandwich (in a pita), some extra fries on the side, and a Snapple. The sandwich was tasty without being over-sauced and too wet. The falafel balls were perfectly crispy on the outside and moist & tasty inside. They can put some fries inside the pita which adds a little extra textural interest. The sandwich was just the right size - not too big or too small - for a sensible lunch. Beware that seating inside is limited to a few small tables and 3 high stools at the bar. I LOVE this place!! *My advice would be to always call ahead of time to check that they are open - the hours vary, especially on the weekends.* The staff is super friendly, ordering is quick and it's the BEST falafel I've ever had. (And yes, I've eaten at Taïm) Previously, the only downside to this spot was it's small size making it nearly impossible to eat inside.... But now, they have expanded the seating options so that customers can comfortably dine in. Inside, there are about three tables and a countertop with 3-4 stools. Outside (on the side of the restaurant), they added a nice outdoor seating option with another countertop and some stools. Another recent upgrade - the new TVs they added to display their menu. Previously, they had a written menu on a whiteboard. My usual order is a falafel lafa. You can go down the counter and add what you'd like - ask to add French fries!! It may take a little bit longer if the fries aren't already made but trust me they are worth the few extra minutes. They always slice the lafa in half so I usually have half for dinner and the other half for lunch the next day... Unless I'm really hungry and eat the entire lafa for dinner which happens more times than not. You can add sides to your order - I always get the hummus, babaghanoush (also the best I've ever had) or cucumber/tomato salad. So good!! read more

The closest place for lunch for me, this place is especially crowded during lunch time and I prefer to order when it is less crowded. Also, it's a Jewish establishment so it's closed on Saturdays and major holidays. - Chicken Shawarma - I had it in a pita sandwich and it was so deliciously filling. Something about the way the chicken was roasted made it very juicy and flavorful - Falafel in a Pita (free soda!) - The falafel was okay, super crunchy. Sizzle is a good lunch time spot. The platters are expensive at about $17 for a combo including meat, rice, and side salads; however, the portions are large. I ended up rationing the platter into two lunches since they were so big. I wouldn't be surprised if some folks could ration the platter into three separate meals. I had the baby chicken shawarma because the lamb shawarma wouldn't have been ready until 3 PM. The chicken was a little salty, but it was very flavorful all around. Tumeric was a dominant spice in the seasoning. I wish it was a little crispier. The side salads were quite good. I had the beet salad, the carrot salad, and the cabbage. All of the salads were well seasoned. I could have eaten any of those side salads as a main dish for lunch. I suggest calling ahead on Fridays. I tried visiting on Friday in the past and found them closed around 2 PM. read more

Absolutely the WORST customer service. Unfortunately a zero star rating is not an option here, otherwise that is what they deserve. Beware to order through any third party app (UberEats, Doordash, etc.) as this place will blatantly cheat you out of your money. As per their own words, it is their policy to not provide any salad toppings (with with their ridiculously overpriced sandwiches) unless you order or pick-up from them directly. Never have I EVER encountered an Israeli restaurant refusing to give toppings on the side, and this is coming from someone who grew up in Israel. This place is awesome! I've been looking for a good falafel place close to St. John's, but had to travel pretty far just to get "okay" food. Sizzle's falafel is fantastic. You have the option of getting a pita, a lafa (which is giant pita wrap), or a plate. You can choose falafel, chicken shawarma or lamb shawarma. They have a great fresh salad bar including but not limited to hummus; babaganoush; Israeli salad; regular salad; eggplant; home made hot sauce and much more. This place sucks! But, I had a slightly unorthodox experience there which I'm about to share with you all that entire story very briefly as part of this review. This was my first time visiting (I'll never go back) and to be totally fair to Sizzle, that was the very 1st thing I told them at the counter. I received a certificate from Restaurant.com that I could use at various spots in there network, and Sizzle was the closest. I explained my predicament to them and used the phone app to access the certificate directly in front of them, of course they never heard of Restaurant.com. But took my order anyway and give me too much of a hard time. Still the guy was perplexed and perturbed by the matter and proceed to voice his opinions and inquiries to his boss and Restaurant.com all while I'm sitting there not enjoying my food. I don't know what kind of business practices they use there, in terms of online sites and partnerships. But don't smile and my face saying okay, alright and turn around in the very same spot on the phone and get into heated debates over my order while I'm still in the place. That was EXTREMELY uncomfortable, and all that hassle was over mediocre ethnic (sorry couldn't think of a more accurate word) that I could get at food truck or food cart. First of all, this place is CLEAN. I mean you can eat off the floor-am I getting through? I had a lamb shawma on a pita that comes with 2 sides. The meat was juicy and succulent. The fries were good ( hard to mess up fries) and an Israeli salad. Sweety had falafel platter - also comes with 2 sides, she had an Israeli salad and a cabbage salad. Speaking of falafel, they make it fresh to order whenever you get it. It's not like that fried sand you get when you order falafel from most other places because it's been sitting there for an hour under a heat lamp or worse even, microwaved. This falafel is just like you get in the Middle East; crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. The tahani is also fresh and flavorful, not like that concoction you get out of a bottle. I don't know what other reviewers were where complaining about but I got a sharwarma in a pita, slathered with humus, 2 sides, a soda. Sweety got a falafel platter 6 falafel balls, 2 sides and a salad and a soda and the total came to $22. Trust me, it was a lot of food for the money. If you just want the Falafel on a pita with no fires or salads take off $4.00 per item. If you are looking for a cheap $4.50 falafel that is dry and dense like concrete this ain't the place for you. You get what you pay for. I will definitely be back. PS: Believe it or not, the workers have a Karaoke setup behind the counter and if you like, they will serenade you with cool Middle Eastern music (Arabic and Israeli). The shawarma is just right, not dry, not salty, it's moist and has a lot of flavor and the pita is very soft and moist. I came in today and they gave me some falafel balls and fries as a sample. The falafel balls are crazy good crunchy but not too crunchy also the flavor and ingredients they use to make it isn't what you will get any where else. The fries are not frozen, they use fresh potatoes cut up and deep fried something you would get at a buckharian shishkabob spot. And it's not expensive there are combo platters that are affordable enough to eat there regularly. Wow. Never would have expected the quality of food at Sizzle to be where it was. From the outside, it looks like a take-out pizza place. The food is fantastic! We had baby chicken shawarma, turkey and lamb shawarma and falafel. Our kids shared a burger with fries. It was one of the best falafel I have ever had. My parents said it reminded them of Israel. The only good thing about this place is their fast delivery but that's probably more because I ordered using UberEats. The Kufta Kebaba and the baby shawarma both came out extremely dry and salty. Also, the platter is supposed to come with 2 sides, but they don't allow you to pick the sides even though they have many in their restaurant. Being from the Middle East, the Shawarma's are great and the portions are huge - unless you eat a lot, you will have trouble finishing one. I would highly suggest not putting a lot of toppings in your Shawarma's and maybe stick to the diced cucumber/tomatoes, pickles and cabbage along with some hummus and a spicy sauce. Also, you have to have on the larger bread (not the pita bread). This can turn out to be quite the expensive affair. With drinks, it can cost about $20 per person. Parking may be a little bit of a pain as well unless you're going at night when there is no metered parking. Be aware of the timings since this is a Jewish place and is usually closed from sundown on Friday to Saturday. read more

As Israelis, I and my wife find it very difficult to find good shawarma state side. This place is as authentic as you get in nyc. The chicken shawarma is amazingly fresh. The salads are so good and amazing variety. The owner is a mensch. We go every few weeks and take our veil now shawarma. A few weeks ago, the chicken shawarma was a a little dry. He offered us to have a another Eder of shawarma Free of charge and it was very tasty.
