The food was enjoyable. I tried the sam sun jampong (seafood noodles) and it was very good and flavorful. It does have a kick, so ask for less spicy if you can't handle spice. The tangsuyuk-jajang is the combination. The tangsuyuk is basically fried pork which didn't have much flavor. The khan pung gi (chicken) was delicious and the large was a great family sized dish. We didn't have a wait and we're seated right away. Our servers were very attentive and asked us immediately if we wanted water or tea--we opted for tea. Barley tea is my favorite! We ended ordering food for our table, maybe a little bit much for our party. I love Korean food and was raised on the Korean-Chinese style foods. We had the staples: jajangmyun, japchae, mandoo, and tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). The jajangmyun noodles were good, it was supposed to be pork belly, however it seemed to be light on the pork and the sauce could use a little more salt for what I'm used to. Japchae was a little oily for my taste, but we enjoyed the cook of the noodle and the variety of veggies with beef in the dish. Mandoo we got fried. These mandoo had a nice meaty filling and was fried nicely. We made the dipping sauce using the vinegar, soy, and red pepper flakes for the mandoo. The tangsuyuk was my favorite. We ordered the sauce on the side (like we always do) so they pork doesn't get soggy. The pork had a nice fry and crunch and the sauce had the sweet and sour notes. The restaurant was clean and had a peaceful interior. We enjoyed the ambiance as it reminded me of many of the Korean restaurants I've been to. Probably the best black bean noodle/Jjampong place around the area. I love their Gan-jjajang-Myun as well as I'm a big fan of onions. If you aren't an onion fan, this may not be the best option for you. I believe the Jjampong (spicy seafood noodles) isn't spicy to a traditional Korean palette, but if you know you're not great with spice, be careful; however, the flavor is all there in the broth, so I'd still recommend trying it! BEST JAJANGMYUN AND JAMBONG IN THE DMV! I've been to so many different jajangmyun restaurants around the Dmv and this is by far the best. Most places add so much sugar to their jajangmyun, but I barely tasted sugar in Han Joong Kwan's jajangmyun. The noodles were well cooked and the jajangmyun sauce had a lot of flavor without feeling too greasy. The jambong could have been a little spicier (just personal preference) but I loved that the soup was so smooth and infused with seafood. We also ordered the gochu japchae. It's not really japchae, as there aren't sweet potato noodles. But the beef, shrimp, and peppers in the dish were TO DIE FOR! The spicy sauce that they were cooked in was amazing and I was craving it, even after I ate a bunch of food. It was really interesting how the dish was served with a bread that had a texture like a steamed bun. Using it to wrap the meats and veggies was the perfect combination. We ordered the jjamjja myun (half and half black bean noodles, spicy seafood noodle), rice with stir fried bulgogi, and some crispy tangsooyook to share. Any avid jajangmyun eater knows that both sauce and noodle texture are equally important. They did not skimp out on the sauce- it was not too greasy, very flavorful, and the amount was perfect. If you are like me and always pair black bean noodles with some fried pork/tangsooyook, please do yourself a favor and get the option with sticky rice flour. About a 2-2.5: The hubs and I came to check out Han Joong Kwan, as it seems to be a local favorite for Chinese-Korean fare. We had a hankering for jjajangmyun and sweet & sour beef, so we made the trek to order these, plus jjambbong and fried dumplings. Honestly, the jjajangmyun was forgettable, as the sauce was a bit too liquid-y and watery, and the noodles didn't seem housemade; they were overcooked and gummy. The sweet & sour beef, in which we requested the sauce to be on the side, was also underwhelming; most of them seemed to be overcooked, and the beef inside them didn't taste good and was super tough. The jjambbong's broth was not spicy and soothing, using the same overcooked noodles, and this was pushed off to the side. Service was friendly, and the place seemed small and intimate. Not sure if we went on an off day, but our experience was just not a tasty one. Came with family and was able to snag the front row of tables for all of us. Some had dietary restrictions, so some ordered a la carte and some family style. We ordered several dishes to share: mandu, spicy tofu, tang su yuk, and japchae. Their dumplings are so good and huge! They don't have a specific dumpling sauce, so we mixed soy and vinegar which gave it a nice tangy flavor. The japchae is also very good filled with beef and a huge portion too. The tofu was nicely done and comes with a lot more veggies than traditional Chinese Mapo. The sweet sour pork is their star dish and has the right amount of sauce so that it's not totally drowning and soggy. Lightly fried tender meat and just the right amount of sweetness. But I've heard from a friend who recently visited this place saying the food was good so I decided to give this place another try. I ordered jjajangmyun/jamppong combo and jjajangmyun/sweet and sour pork combo. All food came out at a reasonable time and were all delicious. They even tried to accommodate for my young daughter offering scissors to cut the noodles, fork, small plate and extra napkins. I have been to korea and also have fantastic jajamyun in hawaii and this restaurant comes close to what i have enjoyed! First off, the taangsuyuk is nice and crispy!!!
