Service wise, i found the couple very friendly, - although they don't check up on you what so ever, whenever you do interact they are very nice. In terms of food, I think pricing is a little high for portion - the chicken was pretty disappointing - although it is crispy, the flavours was not there - and under the batter , the chicken seemed a little sticky - kind of like mushed , not entirely sure how to describe it. Just been here wth a few family members for lunch. They both ordered a seafood hot pot while I ordered a BBQ beef with rice, which contained the beef and rice, a bit of vegetables, an egg, and what I believe to be a miso soup. The verdict is that the food ended up tasting pretty alright but the problem is that the rice needs to be slightly fluffier if that makes any sense because it just tasted like one of those rice that would harden too quickly if you don't eat it RIGHT AWAY. That might suggest that they didn't add enough water in their rice cooking method. While this place isn't really all that special, but it sure is conveniently located by a mall. I used to come here alot with my family as a kid and I remembered my family always being so in love with this place, so I decided to revisit it recently and it was not what I had remember at all. The prices were quite expensive considering that when our hot pots arrived, they looked nothing like the picture and the ingredients in the pot were lacking. Came here to check out their lunch special. Parking is available underneath in that circular mess of a parking lot (Crystal Mall). The inside is fairly beaten up and crappy, which means it's the real deal. Another good sign is the large number of Korean student-types eating here. The combos are no-frills, and straight up cheap comfort food. A hot pot can be had for $6-7, which consists of some kind of flavoured broth/soup (spiciness can be adjusted), and a bowl of rice. Is it weird that some of my favourite Asian restaurants in the greater Vancouver area are found in (Asian) malls? Crystal Mall has one of the best food courts in terms of Asian cuisine (besides Aberdeen Center in Richmond). Though Han Ju isn't technically in the food court I absolutely LOVE this place! Fast service, dirt cheap prices, and (most importantly) delicious noodle soups! I get them every time I come. The kimchi adds a nice hot-and-sour-ness and are cooked in the broth long enough that the flavour really penetrates the soup. The pots also come with tofu, egg, pork slices (yum-yum!), shrimp, squid, and mussel (though the last three are often overcooked). I've also had the sesame-oil chicken noodle soup. This was good too, but doesn't quite compare to the incredible Korean-style pots. The meat was decently tasty and juicy and it came with some stewed bok choy and cabbage on a thin bed of rice. My mom always orders for me at this place because I always go for her and she knows what I like. It's the kimchi seafood hot pot with vermicelli noodles and comes with rice. I LOVE this hot pot. The soup is perfect for a cold day and is not burn your mouth spicy but manageable spicy. The seafood that is in there isn't a lot, just one or two mussels, some pork (isn't a seafood I know), and a crab stick which is weird but not bad. This little Chinese and Korean fusion hot pot restaurant is famous for their comfort food - hot pot or their minced pork over rice, not their service. Naturally, Han Ju came into mind, cheap food, good portion size and most importantly, their tofu pot is always steamy hot. I came in in the afternoon, conveniently past the lunch rush hour and scored myself a nice two seaters at the corner with only a table or two occupied in the restaurant. A cup of tea came promptly and I quickly ordered my favorite: kimchi tofu hotpot, medium spicy today since I was freezing. The lady brought my food approx. after 5-10 minutes (lost count while checking in on Yelp lol). Umm..yum, a hot pot full of spicy goodness: kimchi, pork slices, green bean noodle, mussel, squid and a hard boiled egg, and of course a small bowl of rice on the side. I quickly indulged into it, took a sip of the spicy soup, and found myself sweating after just few minutes of eating. Don't get me wrong, it was not really that spicy, I was just super excited having a warm and hearty meal in a Friday afternoon. I have always been a slow eater, and a nicely raised girl who always finish her food, so my late lunch ended up lasting 30 minutes or so. This is slightly different which I would say it is a cousin of Soon Tofu. Seafood Mini Hot Pot($6.95) is a typical Korean bargain Meal that comes with Mostly your choice of Spiciness for the Broth. This Hot Pot consists mostly of Soup while ingredients of some Glass Vermicelli, Squid, Mussels, Shrimp, and a couple Bricks of Soft Tofu. It's not as overwhelmingly Tofu as Soon Tofu which is the biggest difference. Banchan Appetizers are extra charge(-0.5 Star) here which I wasn't hankering for anyways but my Mild Spiciness Broth taste weirdly like Nongshim brand Instant Ramen flavouring. No tea refills but I saw a heated pot in the corner. If I'm supposed to get my own refills, make a visible sign. Decor has improved with new wood-styled paneling and a corralling area by the door. Very strange music choices: either classical or very scratchy old asian music. Price has increased from 5.95 to 7.50 maybe to account for the bigger hot pot bowl. Too bad they countered that with an extra pound of glass noodles and less of the actual ingredients. I counted 1 tough mussel, 2 calamari rings, about 5 thinly shaved pork slices which tasted more like beef, a couple small Napa cabbage bits and the most laughably: the tofu and egg. Half my egg disappeared on its way from the shell to the bowl or it came from a midget chicken. The beautiful silken tofu that this tofu hot pot joint used to be renown for was now 4 cubes of ALMOST silken tofu. Time to change your tofu hot pot sign. We visited this restaurant last night and the significant other ordered seafood hotpot. This deep unattractive steel bowl arrived with udon noodles with a ton of pork. She inquired to the waitress if it was in fact what she ordered. The waitress took her spoon and stirred through the entire bowl saying - yeah, there's seafood but we only saw one kalamari ring, one mussel and a ton of pork (why would you put pork in a dish that you are selling labelled as seafood??!?!?). So there ended up not being any shrimp in the dish - the waitress took it to the kitchen. Minutes later, she brought it back to us and my other half stirred the bowl again. Yesterday when we went, the waitress asked us to sit in the middle table but I refused and went to the unoccupied tables by the door.
