Came for the late night (9-11pm) AYCE hot pot deal and it was a great experience! The food was fantastic, and the ingredients all felt very fresh and prepared to order. The self service sauce and dessert bar adds to the premium experience as well. I wanted to try their advertised Wagyu beef and man was it fantastic! The meat melted in your mouth and wasn't overwhelming which extremely fatty cuts of Wagyu can be. By far the best AYCE hot pot meat item i've ever had, and I've been to many AYCE hot pot restaurants before. Shoutout to the shrimp paste and salmon sashimi as they also tasted fantastic. Ordering food was very simple; you order via a sheet on the paper to start but as the night went on, voicing the order to the very attentive waiter was all that was needed. Service at Dolar shop is always 10/10 and there was no exception during the AYCE service. They have a happy hour, which is a great way to get more value for your experience there. We went on Christmas so it was nice as many other the other non Chinese restaurants in the area were closed. I really enjoyed their sauce bar as they had a variety of different sauces to mix together to make your own custom. They also have servers there that can help you make their signature sauce. I think there was a little confusion with the order, and when we went at their non peak hour, it was a little inattentive, but not terrible. Took advantage of the $1 soup base and AYCE for kids recently. You get to choose from pork bone, tomato, and spicy for the $1 soup base. The sauce, snacks, and dessert bar is always amazing as I love the fruits and jellies they offer there. The pork and beef are my go-to's. Service is great as they provide high chairs for the little, aprons for everyone, and Haagen-Dazs ice cream bars after the meal. We were celebrating a birthday so they even plated our birthday cakes nicely, with candles, decorations, and a small happy birthday sign! All for no extra charge! I came here for dinner at prime time on a weekday. There was a lineup outside. Definitely get a reservation. We were seated promptly and timely at the reservation time. Ive been to their Richmond location several times, first time here. The ambiance is fine - modern, comfortable. Big contrast to the other location...IYKYK... They have new set combos for 1 - starting at $50 for meat options, less for vegetarian. I got their beef set which comes with one plate of beef, 1 veg platter, unlimited carbs (white rice, a few different noodle choices), and access to the dessert/sauce/snack bar. This is good value compared to ordering a-la-carte especially if you're going with a small group. I guess they are feeling the competition from the fast-casual chains sprouting everywhere that end up way cheaper. The meat portion is small though. Ingredients were fresh and nicely prepared. Their broths are pretty good. And as always you get your own mini-pot - not a big shared one for the table. Service was fine. I also signed up for their limited time 20% code for their Spring Set menu which makes a really great deal as the set starts from $34 and includes choice of appetizer (marinated tomato or cucumber salad), meat, assorted veggies or meat & veggies platter, choice of unlimited carbs (rice, udon, or hand pulled noodles), choice of 6 soup broths, and access to their fruits, appetizer and sauce bar. I choose the cucumber salad with lamb meat, assorted meat with veggies platter, hand pulled noodles, and with pork bone soup base. Everything was high quality and delicious - service was top notch and they delivered their signature ice cream before we had to ask and even asked if we wanted another one. With the 20% promo, my lunch set only came out to $30 including tax (regularly $36) for lunch. I was able to pack my remaining food plus soup broth to go. Pro tip: Make sure to pay with debit to avoid the additional service charge. However, there is an option to fill out a review to waive the service charge. Next pro tip: There is plenty of free parking spots around Station Square. Closest is the Earls, Cactus Club, DolarShop, and We Work building two parkade. Came during happy hour which began at 9 pm on a Saturday evening. My cousin took the liberty of ordering for us all. I got half regular and half spicy. The veggies and meat that came with our order were more than enough for our party of 4. The veggies were fresh and were a great compliment to the soup and meat. Service is always exceptional when we visit! Staff are warm, friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is clean and our order always comes out in a timely manner. My husband always gets the tomato and creamy pork broth, so I got that as well the last time we visited. I wish they had the sukiyaki broth, like at the Kingsway location. That one is my favourite! Nonetheless, the broths were still superb! We love that our kids (9 & 6 years old) eat for free and it is all-you-can-eat because they love the fried buns and endless fries! We came here on a weekend to celebrate a birthday. We made reservations but didn't find that the wait was long even for those without reservations. We each got their signature broth and picked a whole bunch of dishes to share amongst our table of 3. We preferred to do that rather than their set menus so that we were able to pick exactly what we wanted. I was a big fan of their broth and dipping sauce and found both to be very tasty. We also had a child with us ,and they had a special promotion going on where he could select from a menu of items for free as long as there was one paying adult. There definitely was more than enough selection for him and he even got a little toy to entertain himself with while waiting for the food. I usually go to Haidilao but this place is definitely a contender for my favourite hotpot restaurant. We came for their lunch combos that range from 38-45$ per person. We also ordered their plum juice. My favourite part was their unlimited rice and noodle refills. The noodles are so good! I also loved their ice cream cones and ice jelly bar. The combos are definitely more than enough food even for a big eater like me. The combos are definitely cheaper than just ordering ala carte. Bad experience using a $30 voucher. First off I couldn't reach anyone after calling 3 times after they opened. So I had to ask Richmond location about any restricting with using the voucher. They said none. This was also the answer when I was seated at Burnaby. Since my husband and I only ordered one set meal, they explained we'd have to be charged $5 extra despite ordering another meat tray. We accepted this. After receiving the bill, we saw that couldn't apply the voucher and instead only gave us 20% off. After asking, they said it's because the bill was under $100. We simply wanted to use the voucher, and were not told in-person or on the email which included the voucher that the minimum spend was $100. After speaking to one staff and the manager twice each time, and showing them the lack of specifications on the email, they finally honoured the voucher. We will not be returning due to poor communication and accusatory demeanour. We will stick to Haidilao for quality meat and better soup and service! read more

This was our friend's first time in Vancouver so my wife and I recommended The Dolar Shop for dinner! We were so glad that we got hot pot - it was a pretty cold and foggy night so the piping hot soup definitely hit the spot. I thought the portions could be improved a bit. The wagyu platter came out pretty skimpy and was mostly just layered ice. Aside from that we loved the sauce and dessert bar. Their soup broths were spectacular. Everyone at the table was saying that they should sell their broths like Little Sheep and Hai Di Lao do. I usually get the spicy broth but I wanted to mix it up when we went and got the Chef's Creamy Pork Broth and Tomato Broth. Both were super yummy but I give the edge to the creamy broth. The flavor and richness was truly unmatched. I felt like the tomato broth was a bit watered down in comparison. We loved all the sets, but the vegetarian set comes with questionable fake meatballs which don't taste very good. I would recommend still getting a meat set and just trading the meat with a friend for some of their veggies. Service was awesome and attentive. We really enjoyed our experience here. I've been to the The Dolar Shop a few times, and it's always consistently good. This last visit was no different. These new hot spot restaurants are always well designed. Tables have induction plates built into the table, so no hot flames. Individual hot pots are provided at the table, but don't be fooled, you don't necessarily need to order one broth each. My wife and I often share one, and my kids share another, so there is no need to order excess broth. Orders are placed through a tablet, and once submitted, you're free to go the market table to pick up some snacks (like edamame, kimchi, peanuts and crisps) as well as make your own sauces for your hotpot. There's also a small dessert table so you make your own desserts from a mix of different pearls, jellies, and fruit. I've never really fully understood how the pricing works for the access to the sauces, snacks and desserts. It does seem inconsistent. According to my last bill, we paid $5 each for two adults (total $10), but there were 3 adults and 2 children, so not sure how that math was figured out, but in any case, it's a small cost. The broths, meat and vegetables come out very quickly, and they advise you how to set your induction stove to high (5) to start, and then low-medium (2) once it starts boiling. They will also offer disposable aprons to keep any splatter off your clothes. The food is always good, but it's the experience that is what makes the difference. Staff come by to remove plates as they go empty, replace water, and refill pots with fresh broth when needed. At the end of the meal, you can choose to keep the broth, which I recommend because it's so good after having cooked all the meat and vegetables in it. They will also offer soft serve ice cream to everyone that wants it, and it's pretty good. The ice cream is basically unlimited, because I've been given a 2nd one before, and my kids even asked for a 3rd one with no issue. They do state they prefer payment by cash, and will charge 2% to recover the transaction fee, but they waive the fee if you fill out a Google Form survey. The survey only asks 10 easy questions, so worth doing to save a few dollars. Another great visit. We really enjoy the food, service and entire experience. Look forward to the next visit. read more

Happy hour is the best deal. I've only been at the station square location but I hear they have it at lansdowne as well. The spicy broth is a bit too spicy for me. Silverfish broth is the most popular I think. It's not ayce but the servings are just right. The ingredients, veggies and meat seem fresh and good quality. 1 star. I used to come often but I won't be coming back again. I recommend going to Big Way Hot Pot down the street, they are much cheaper. Or go to Haidilao at Brentwood if you prefer the same level of quality. The waitress's service was good, but the manager was very rude and loudly argued with me in front of the other guests. I just quickly paid and left because there was no point in continuing the argument when he wouldn't admit he was wrong. I felt like he was loud on purpose to shame me into conceding to him. Today, March 26 2025, I went to Dolar Shop with a 20% discount for their Lunch OR Dinner Spring Set Menu (picture attached). The Promo specifically states that it can be combined with the Happy Hour discount which is a further 20% off. The hostess confirmed that the two 20% off discounts can be stacked when I asked her. The manager refused to honour the Happy Hour discount and said "you already have the 20% discount from the Promo, what more do you want?" This was very very rude and I cannot believe he's the manager with this level of customer service. I asked him if he could check with the hostess but he replied "I am the manager here". In the end, he would only give me the 20% off from the attached Promo but refused to stack the Happy Hour discount on top. In case he tries to argue further in response to this review, I have attached the wording from the Promo and readers can see for themselves that it specifically states that the two 20% discounts can be combined. Edit: The manager from CHOCHO Hot Pot (also owned by Dolar Shop) reached out to me. They previously worked at Dolar Shop and always provided great service. First timer here. Went to this Dolar shop after a late movie around 9:30pm. Short 15 min. Wait. Restaurant is very clean a spacious. The servers were greeting us promptly. The waitress was very friendly & explained how to order and the specials. I ordered the pork set menu. My wife ordered the lamb. We set off to investigate the dessert and condiments. As I am not a big hotpot diner, the spread of different sauces were new to me. I did recognize some of my favourites. Like sesame seed paste and fish paste. I also tried the house soya sauce. Lots of different offerings but my favourite is the roasted peanuts and crispy chips to snack on. The kimchi was a little dry but still good. When the soup came which I picked their bone broth it was in individual pots and then was covered with a ceramic cover so you don't burn yourself. The waitress taught us how to turn on the burner. As we waited for the soup to come to a boil. I ate the marinaded mini cucumbers. Nice light bite to clean your palette. The racks of meat and vegetables were well presented. There was sui choi, two pieces of luncheon meat, a Chinese mushroom, 3 quail eggs, a large flat firm bean cake, 3 fish balls, two strips of imitation crab, one small corn on the cob, some enoki mushrooms, and a piece of sponge like veggie. Along with the meal you can get unlimited udon or hand pulled noodles. I tried both and I loved the udon. The food was great. After the main meal we went for all you can eat dessert which is various fresh fruits and sweet Asian fare, like almond jelly, sweetened red bean, some different types of pearls. The last thing you get is an ice cream cone in a waffle cone. We decided to take home the remainder of our broth. Which we added to noodles from home. The meal for two came to $80.00. I think it was a good experience for new hotpot goers. I have been to other places but some use one big communal pot. Not so food safe when you're with non-family members. Cold weather = Hot Pot weather. And everyone seems to have the same idea because on a weekday, it was a 45min wait if you didn't reserve. Oops. They take reservation on Yelp but I clearly didn't plan. The Pro for having to wait is they give you a comp menu item if you end up waiting 30min+, 60min+, 90min+; the comped menu item gets nicer the longer you wait. We ended up shopping at Pricesmart while we waited and we got a free bean curd dish for waiting 30min+. When they saw we were with kids, they gave each kid a glowstick (which they loved) and the kids get their kids bowls/ plates/ cups. They also have a kids menu. We ended up just ordering a lunch set for each adult and there was enough food for the kids too. Their best deal is their lunch sets that start at $29.99. They come with unlimited sauce (you serve yourself at the open bar) that you normally have to pay for separately, and it comes with unlimited noodles or rice. The quality of the meat is really good, and was a tasty meal. I really like their Kurobuta Pork. My favorite soup base is their popular Exquisite Silver Soup. We also tried their Szechuan Hot & Spicy Soup and that was so spicy, I could not taste any of the food so would not get again. Finally, they end all the meals with unlimited soft serve ice cream. My friend wanted hotpot as the weather has turned cold so we decided to try this place. Unfortunately we did not make reservations as we thought going after 2pm plus the snow would not be busy. We were so wrong. The estimated wait time was about an hour and we were asked to put our name down on the Yelp powered waitlist. Lesson learnt: make reservations on Yelp app before going in future. On a bright note, they actually offer a free dish depending on how long the wait was. In the end we got a table after 45 mins so we were given a fried bean curd dish. That was a nice touch. Service was pretty good here. It was easy to flag down a server, and they were quite efficient yet friendly when bringing food or removing our empty plates. They constantly came by to refill the broth without being asked. I like how everyone has their individual small pot of broth. The sets are even better. Too bad it is only available until 5 pm. It saves me from thinking what to have. We just need to choose our protein and it comes with some veggies, quail eggs, tofu, imitation crabmeat, prawn paste. It also includes the broth, unlimited rice or noodle, sauce bar and soft serve. Starting from $28, I thought that was quite reasonable. We had the lamb and wagyu sets. The quality was good. I did think it is a waste to dip the wagyu into the sauce as it detracts from the marbled richness of the beef. I had the silver broth which was very tasty. My friend had the combination with mala (medium spice) and that was pretty spicy. It hit the spot for her. The highlight was the unlimited soft serve ice cream in a coffee flavored cone. I came here for lunch on a Wednesday, it was pretty packed but we luckily made a reservation a few days prior. It was very hot inside, we were sweating before we even started eating. The DIY sauce bar is nice but it was out of a lot of items and very dirty. We told them but had to wait 5-10 mins for everything to get replenished. We usually love this location, its large and spacey compared to other Dolar Shop locations, food is good, we love the sauce bar here, and the staff is always quick to get us what we need. This being said this particular time we had a less than average experience. Both my husband and I got a set meal for dinner which came with unlimited rice/noodle with our meals. We had our kids with us so we obviously had to feed them. We were charged for "the sauce bar" for the kids because they took part in eating our food and the grapes that the staff brought over for appetizer. I didn't argue because it was getting late and the kids were starting to get fussy. It was only $2 but I've never been charged for my kids because they are only 1 and 3 and they don't eat much.
