The discovery of this place was because of dining at Sanamluang next door years ago. Mom went in and found a a specific meat product not available at our local supermarket. And she made something amazingly delicious out of it! Fast forward a few years later, we were blocks away when I reminded her about this place. She asked if we can make a stop so she can make that same dish again. (She mentioned Hubbers might have made a request for it.) I was curious enough to go in this time. I expected it to be crowded because Sanamluang is incredibly popular. We were lucky to find the only open parking spot which happened to be right up front. This place is deceiving! Looks like a no nonsense place looking from the outside but it's pretty big once you get inside! They even have a seafood and meat section at the back. They'll also clean and fry in-store purchase fish. I did notice that most of their products are pricier compared to other Asian markets. I didn't have the need for any, so I came out empty handed. But Mom got the cut of meat she needed to make us dinner this week! Okay first stop (for me.) Relieved and rejoiced to finally find a place nearby that had all the Thai ingredients I needed! Small but good. Sadly the economy has increased prices of course but that's not really the store's fault. PASTES Great selection of curry pastes, chili pastes, and seasoning packets for making things like Tom Kha and Papaya salad (All ranged roughly around $1-2). A selection of jarred sauces like , shrimp pastes, fried chili paste, and other sauces that were a few dollars more. COCONUT MILK/CREAM I focused on the Mae Ploy coconut cream which was $3.79 AROMATICS Aromatics like galangal, lime, and lemongrass are available in both dry powder form and fresh form. The powders ranged from $3-6). You can also get star anise either in dried bags or as a powder as well SAUCE Good selection of fish sauces and soy sauces. Large Viet Hung fish sauce - $13 I also spotted cheaper brands like Tiparos, Megachef, etc THAI CHILI POWDER! Finally. Been trying to find it at all the other Asian markets and it's been weirdly hard. I got my trusted 7oz red top container for $4.99 THAI TEA Thai tea in both canned ($3.39) and bagged instant form ($5) PRODUCE I was a bit sad at first on how small the produce section was but it turns out they actually really did have all the needed basics there. - Green papaya (they only have whole, no pre-shred) - Holy Basil in bags - Turmeric in bags - Thai chili peppers - Galangal $7/pound - Lemongrass stalks (I remember it said either $2-3 but didn't specify any further whether that meant PER stalk or per ounce or per pound, etc - Makrut ("Kaffir") lime leaves in bags (said it was $26 a pound but didnt provide a smaller, more realistic measurement - long beans - daikon - as well as a very modest collection of mainstream produce like tomatoes, onions, button mushrooms, etc CANNED Things like bamboo, including thin or thick cuts They also have my personal favorite jarred bamboo in chili oil. RAMENS They've got a small selection of ramens, also including variations of Indomie Mie Goreng ($1 per bag) and 1-2 Korean selections like Shin Ramen The sections I breezed by included oils, rice, snacks, and a few fridges with meats, eggs, desserts, frozen galangal, miso, etc. Unfortunately they didn't have the frozen precut lemongrass containers you sometimes get at Thai or Viet stores They also take card! It's a tiny tiny store with an equally tiny parking lot, so be prepared expect a full lot sometimes. I luckily found a spot but also noticed that it can be a bit of work to shimmy your car back out when you leave since they're packed so tight Definitely worth a visit though if you need this specialty of ingredients. read more

The produce was poor and expensive. Not enough fresh foods such as noodles. The cashier was friendly and quick, however.

Best market for Thai food. There are many items here you can't find in most Asian food markets.

There aren't too many Thai markets in Thai town which is a bit odd. Yelp only comes up with Bangluck and another one down the street. I will say that I end up at the other one just because it's closer but I like Bangluck a lot better. Sure, the lot is smaller but it's free and there's an attendant there to guide you into openings and then rearrange cars as people leave; it was a little unnerving to hand your car to a stranger but it all works out. Bangluck is on the smaller side but it makes everything easier to find and I'm in and out pretty quickly, even if there is a line to get in; again, they're smaller so capacity is watched pretty closely. I find that the price of produce is roughly the same but fresher and I find the staff to be a lot friendlier as well. read more

I came in looking for sticky rice, and got so distracted by everything else that I almost forgot what I came in for! They have a good selection of Thai groceries as well as Asian stuff in general. If not, good luck finding street parking lol The market is located in a mini little plaza. It's a little hole in the wall place but has all the items for authentic Thai dishes. I had saw a thai curry recipe that suggested canned paste curry. So, I knew I had to get authentic Curry. But where?!?! Anyways, I actually came across this market here on Yelp! I have yelped "Thai Markets Near me" lol Gave it a visit.... and low and behold.... I walked down an Isle and there it was..... shelves consisting of different types of canned curry paste. They had red, green, yellow.... you name it. And each can was under $2! I also bought some authentic Thai coconut milk and other items too. Let me put it this way: this little market has everything you need at least for Thai cuisine novices; It might not be enough for true Thai aficionados but good enough for me. Kafir leaves in little bags ,fresh and fragrant (hard to get anywhere). Thai basil. Dried shrimp etc... The personnel is very friendly and will help you find what you need. This is a relatively small Thai-focused grocery market in east Hollywood. Living in Atwater Village makes it quite difficult to find many legit asian grocery stores... so I was really thankful to find Bangluck Market. They have all the stuff you need for thai dishes at home, and even some ingredients for Vietnamese cuisine such as pho noodles. Recommended if you need Thai ingredients! I've already been here a couple times whenever I'm in the Hollywood area and it has a pretty good selection of Thai only groceries. They even have Frozen cilantro Roots which is one of the Holy Trinity ingredients for Thai cuisine. Lots of ingredients to make Thai food and the people there are also thai. Of course it's not as big as 99 Ranch or other Asian supermarkets like H mart, but if you're looking anything specific in this cuisine, then I would say check it out. The snacks are also cool and if you have a specific dish that you want to make from a restaurant, I would say this place is more authentic because it's harder to cook with other Asian substitute instead of the country of origin. Parking is kind of hard though so make sure you wait around and either park in the street or wait for parking in the lot. I'm not local, but I'll probably try to check it out if I ever come here again. read more

I went here to gather some thai items for some recipes in my thai cooking book. I drove also to LAX-C the huge thai grocery store -- not good for good quality cooking items (would skip that place unless you need LOTS of vegetables see my other review). They had everything I needed. It was great, including thai chili paste, all the curries, kaffir leafs, thai basil, good quality oyster sauce/fish sauce. I was so happy. But what made it even better was the cashier. She was so great and was giving me tips on how to cook everything included other dishes I didn't plan to make but now I will! She also explained how to store certain items to prevent them from expiring like the kaffir leafs. Anyways 5 stars. Amazing. read more

Bangluck is right in the middle of Thai Town, located just south of Sapp Coffee Shop and a block above Jitlada. It is small - more mart than market - but packs all the essentials. There is a short rice wall proudly displaying "New Crop 2020", that abuts an aisle with maybe 5 types of palm sugar. Beyond that, tucked in a corner, is the meat department flanked by freezers with fish balls, frozen wontons, coriander root, and other miscellany that I don't know. The produce section is small, too, and you can walk through it in 5 seconds. Somehow it has 3 types of basil. Further along there is an entire aisle dedicated to spices. Oh, and of course, there is durian - frozen, dried, and snackified. Like I said, essentials. Everyone seems to know everyone here, and I only heard snippets of English between all the conversations in Thai. The cashier asked the guy ahead of me what he was cooking today, and he laughed, threw up his hands and said "I don't know my wife just told me to buy these", and said thank you three times before walking out. Amazing Thai market!! Incredibly helpful staff! Our cashier helped us to get the ingredients and equipment to make the perfect Thai sticky rice! They have an incredible selection of spices, sauces, pastes, specialty produce and kitchen equipment needed for a delicious and authentic Thai meal. I'll definitely be coming back to restock on ingredients! I also got the pork floss buns and they were pillowy soft and perfectly seasoned as a delicious snack/lunch! I was also able to find fresh makrut lime leaves for curry paste, as well as frozen pandan leaves for making desserts! A true gem for finding these specific ingredients- just note that fresh makrut lime leaves are a summer seasonal item and are not always available. My Thai wife (my only wife!) and I drive down from Nipomo, CA, two times a year (~ 350 mi r/t) to Bangluck Market to purchase supplies. What a find! The people are knowledgeable and friendly, and we almost always find what we are looking for. Why "almost"? They do not always have fresh durian or cha-om sot, but nobody else does either. The market smells fresh, and parking is always available. Since it's in "Thai Town", we meet lots of Thais who live locally, and they give us tips to find other non-market things (e.g., Thai books, magazines, and newspapers). As luck would have it, I was thirsty as I was leaving Hollywood. Lucky for me, I spotted Bangluck as I headed into Thai Town. I had the good luck of nailing a spot in the tiny parking lot (Bang!) that the market shares with several other businesses. Luckily Bangluck has a pretty good selection of refreshments, not like some down on their luck corner markets around town. The market is larger than it appears from the outside and has a great selection of items both foreign and domestic. I felt like something different and lucked on to the cooler-case with an assortment of drinks featuring random things floating in suspension - think boba-ish but having the same density as the suspending liquid so the seeds and other ingredients hung in the liquid. I chose something that looked like it had tadpoles in it...it was ok. Bangluck Market in Thai Town is situated in a tiny strip mall at the corner of Hollywood Blvd and N Kingsley Dr. The parking lot is even smaller than its sister stores in North Hollywood and Reseda, so it's always difficult to find parking space. The store is very small and heavily cluttered, but you will find all that you need for cooking Thai or any other Southeast Asian meals. The first area of the market is full of dried foods, and in the back is its produce section. The seafood and meat area are in an extended room to your right. Thai snacks are my most favorite items on my shopping list. Bangluck Market carries THAYA freeze dried mangosteen and freeze dried durian. They're basically 40 grams of heaven in a bag. The freeze dried mangosteen tastes so good that I forget they are also healthy! Thank you, Bangluck Market, for selling this heavenly Thai fruit snack! read more

This is a great market for Thai grocery items. They carry a variety of Vietnamese foods. I noticed they sell Kirkland saran wrap here (and it was sold out at Costco earlier that day when I went) and that there isn't a lot of vegetable/fruit options. Their meat section is separate from the rest of the floor. My mom and I both almost fell on our way to the meat section because the floor was wet and slippery and there was no sign/grip flooring material. I got an Asian broom here (the best kind of broom you can ever find), tom yum soup base for my hot pot, dried woodear mushrooms for my Vietnamese egg rolls and banh cuon and a few other ingredients. Their house ware section is pretty small and doesn't have many updated or modern items. The parking lot is pretty tiny. The majority of their items are canned or dried goods. read more
