    Turon, bbq chicken skewer, pancit
    Emily J.

OMG...why have I not been here personally yet!? We have only met at parties!!!! So far I have had their famous Turon (A++++), BBQ chicken skewers (A+++), pancit bihon (A), pancit palabok (A+), sausages (A), and their fried tilapia (A+). Everything from here is SO good and I'm not exaggerating! The Turon and BBQ chicken skewers are always the talk at the parties I go to and they are NOT lying. Generous portions and not drying at all! Although I love everything I had from their catering menu so far I have not tried their halo-halo yet which is one of my favorite desserts! I will say at the parties I have attended, the food always comes piping hot and the Turon stays crispy for hours! There is a caramelized glaze on it that keeps it firm and crunchy! If you keep it by a fire pit by accident it tastes even more divine! Truly an exceptional dessert if you're into fried bananas! I'm not sure what the ambiance is like yet but just from the food I can tell it's made with quality ingredients and lots of love. If it brings people together at parties and is the talk of several conversations on first bite, it's definitely worth visiting! I will order my halo-halo from you soon Chaaste Market! This is a promise!

    Halo halo!

My family's favorite family market. Heartfelt thanks to the amazing family who owns, operates, cooks, counsels, and treats everyone who enters here like family. Chaaste Family market was started about forty years ago by a loving mother and talented chef who wanted to share delicious family food with the community. *Edit* I originally posted the definition for the word "family" here, copied from the web. A web definition might be misconstrued as AI assistance in writing. Yelp keeps it Really Real! No AI written reviews are NOT allowed on Yelp! Reason number seven million and seven why Yelp is my favorite website! How do you define family? To me, the word 'family" refers to our immediate family, our children and the ones who gave us life, like your cute features and freckles as well as our adopted family. -The ones who raised us, heal us, comfort and take care of us, those we cherish , love, value and depend on when it matters most. Come here to stock up on the best things ever for your family. Free convenient parking lot with handicap accessible spots. Enter the small market and turn right if you want to buy some calamansi juice, ube jam, Halo Halo, shrimp chips, sugar cane soy sauce, green tea pocky, snacks, marinades, condiments, adobo seasoning or other ingredients for great recipes. Enter the small market and turn left if you want to be that hero at work who shows up with everyone's new favorite takeout. Solve the family feud with a few takeout containers of heart-mending family dinners from here. Cause two people to propose marriage to each other by anonymously addressing a delivery dinner from here to a couple of strangers from one to the other. One word. TURON. No matter how good you've had it before, you ain't never had it this good before! The turon here is a family dynasty recipe, second to none. Soft, creamy banana rolls with a glass-like honey glaze. Order the bangus, chicken or pork adobo with a big side of vegetable-filled pancit for the whole family. The barbeque skewers of chicken are tender with crunchy, charred ends. Yum! Halo Halo means mix mix, and here it's a nice mix of everything. We are a nice mix of everything too. It's my favorite thing about us. If you need a hug for your soul, I strongly recommend this market. Big hugs from me and my family to you and yours along with this Yelp review! ****************

Everything here is delicious. They are super warm and friendly and they give a ton of food. Bring a friend and don't forget to get some turon. They are bananas wrapped like egg rolls and deep fried and then candied. So good they almost feel wrong. This is literally inside a market so there are no tables to sit and eat at but you can go to a nearby park or just eat in your car.

The service here is really good. They have turo turo, but it's best to call ahead. I love they have garlic rice as an option. The food is good and authentic. I tried their flavored turon which I enjoyed. I want to try the regular turon, I know it will be good.

1000/10!! This spot has been around almost 40 years and I understand why! The atmosphere and the vibe can change your day for the better. Chris was my server and he was such an incredible reminder to slow down and enjoy the little moments in life. He was an amazing conversationalist and really made me feel welcomed and almost like family! He was kind enough to give me a few recommendations but above all I appreciate him taking time to connect with me in a genuine way. It was fried rice Friday and I'm so glad, I tried their garlic fried rice and it is a must have! I also got pancit, it is such a comfort food and it was one of the better ones I've had. For my mains I got pork adobo and malunggay and both were super tasty. I also got a couple Turon for the road and those are just addicting! To sum it up, food is amazing but the customer service is even better. Such a pleasant ending to a long day and I can't wait to go back

    Emily S.

so so amazing. one of the best turons i've ever had. they make it fresh so the outside is crispy and the inside is full of hot goodness. had to wait a little longer than anticipated despite placing a phone order, but did not mind at all. the workers are super welcoming and even try to make conversations with you. i look forward to the next time i get to eat this turon again- specifically the ube one

Chaaste Family Market has been holding it down for the community with their amazing Filipino food since 1987 and they definitely deserve their flowers and more! This spot is located in a plaza with a decent amount of parking spots. Inside, they have a layout of half grocery store and half food court. Keep in mind that they do not have any seating, so be prepared to eat in the car or bring your food home. They have so many good options to choose from which made it pretty hard to decide. Wifey and I ended up getting a spread consisting of Garlic Rice, Bistek, Chicken BBQ Skewers, and Longanisa. Overall, everything we tried was authentic, delicious, and comforting to the soul. All of the staff here are beyond friendly and welcoming. You can really tell that they care about serving the community and making sure everyone is full and satisfied. We will definitely be back for some more good eats next time we are in the area!

Having lived in Pasadena for a while now, I can't believe I haven't visited this Filipino market yet! I walked in on a weekday afternoon after work and was warmly greeted by the worker up front. It's a small location but has your essential Filipino groceries while also having your favorite Filipino snacks, and more! There's also a hot food area that has the essentials in cuisine such as Chicken Adobo, Lumpia, and more. I picked up groceries such as Filipino hot dogs, ube pancake mix, etc and of course had to pick up their hot food. I got their Chicken adobo, lechon kawali, tinola, and kare kare. The worker at the stand was so kind and made great conversation, and even threw in a free turon for my partner and I to try! While checking out, the cashier up front gave me a huge box to put all of my groceries and hot food in. What a way to represent Filipino hospitality! Thakn you so much Chaaste, I will be coming back soon!

Truly a HIDDEN GEM, not like the influencer kind. It'sactually pretty hidden. It's a cute snack shop on one side with a huge variety of imported snack and drinks. On the other, the best take away Filipino food you can get on this side of town. Everything was fresh and extremely well portioned. The lumpia was very tasty and please do yourself a favor and try the turon! Delicious!!! Everyone in the store was friendly and super welcoming, and was very excited to explain all the different items for a Filipino food beginner - will be back.

I was craving for sisig as I have not had it in a long time. However, their sisig is only for catering orders, so that was a bit disappointing. Although service was a bit slow, but staffs there were extremely nice & patient. They gave me a sample of their turon & told me that is their speciality. The sample they gave me was really crunchy & sweet. It's really good if you're craving for something sweet & savory. I ordered 2 chicken skewers & a small order of beef (not sure what it's called). The small beef costed $11.50 which was too expensive in my opinion & it tasted really sour. In addition, their chicken skewers are a bit burnt & dried. Inside the market was small but super clean. If I ever come back, I'm definitely not going to try the same items again. I would probably give their fish & sausages a try.

Super yummy Filipino food at this pick and choose market. I loved the ambiance in here. It really felt like an authentic Filipino store. The workers are super friendly too. Absolutely loved their ube turon and will 100% be back for it. They're located in a small plaza near the freeway but there's a decent amount of parking spots available. They're open from 12-7 from Monday-Saturday and closed on Sunday.

Love it. Market with hot food and grocery. Tasty Filipino food. My first time trying Filipino food and it didn't disappoint. Service is great. Very welcoming and helpful.

This is a small Filipino market and a deli on the left side when you walk in. There's limited parking in the plaza but there's also street parking. The market has a bunch of snacks and sweets to check out. We wanted to check out the Filipino food since there's not a lot of options in the area. They have a variety of readily hot foods, perfect for a quick meal. They also have catering. There's no seating here, you order the food for takeout. The garlic rice was pretty good and comforting. The pork tocino was saucy, fatty, and delicious with the rice. The turon, fried banana roll, was very crispy and sweet. I definitely want to try one with a filling next time!

Ask the Community - Chaaste Family Market

    Are there vegetarian options?

Absolutely! They have plenty of Vegetarian options. Ate there today, 3/30/24. I got the Veggie Laing, they have Pinakbet, and their Pancit (noodles) also is Vegtarian.

Hi! I am thinking of ordering half a tray of chopsuey on the 31st of Dec. But b4 I do that is there anyway I can order a small amount to try first today?

Yes, go just go into their store and you can buy a small lunch sized portion to try first. Before I used them for catering I came in and bought a lunch box full of each of the items I wanted to buy for catering.

The staff also wears gloves when handling food. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has some indoor & outdoor seating available with limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers. I mention these things in my reviews for the sake of protecting immunocompromised people like the elderly and people sick with cancer and other illnesses. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was eating my food in this establishment several months ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they were offering some at the moment. They currently do have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is located behind the restaurant at a local medical building parking lot. It's $1 each 9 minutes with a max of $13. Or you can try to find street parking and walk on over. Food: I ordered a Lychee Martini, Saigon Summer, Mamasan's Shrimp Cake Skewers, Truffle Wok Seared Noodles with Scallop, Slow-Drip Vietnamese Coffee Flan, and Banyan Tree Ice Cream. Before I started ordering, I was immediately given some house made complimentary shrimp chips. I loved how light and airy it was. It also had an amazing crunch. It tasted just like shrimps hahaha. My lychee martini was a crisp, refreshing cocktail that perfectly balances floral sweetness with tart acidity. Order this! The Saigon summer is a spicy, tropical blend of tequila, lime leaf liqueur, agave, butterfly pea infused triplum, and a Thai chili infusion. Not really up my alley, but I'm glad I was able to try it out. I think I dislike anything spicy and super bitter in my drinks. It just tasted odd. Mamasan's shrimp cake skewers features crispy, deep-fried shrimp cakes flavored with kaffir lime and lemongrass. It is served with skewers, charred pineapple, and a sweet garlic chili dip. Definitely get this. It was so crunchy, massive, and mouthwatering. The charred pineapple provided a sour yet sweet taste that helped off set the savory seafood / fishy taste in your mouth. The truffle wok seared noodles with scallop is a dish that combines savory, smoky flavor with luxurious truffle and tender scallops, which bridges the gap between classic Asian stir-fry and Italian comfort food. As a massive sucker for Italian food and all things truffle, this dish was my favorite. The al dente handmade egg noodles were wok-tossed in a rich black truffle sauce with delicious mushrooms, fresh Brussels sprout leaves, and perfectly seared scallops. I loved that I could taste the black truffles. The truffles added a nice rich, earthy, and highly savory flavor with prominent notes roasted nuts. GET THIS DISH!!!!! The slow-drip Vietnamese coffee flan is a silky, rich egg custard infused with bold phin-drip coffee and sweetened condensed milk. It offers a perfect balance of bitter roasted coffee and sweet creamy custard. This dish was super smooth, creamy, and delicious. I loved that Star Leaf added their own twist to this dish by putting a caramel golden cage on top of this already phenomenal tasting dessert. The caramel golden cage gave this flan a nice crunch. This dish wasn't too sweet for me. As a hater of super sweet things, this flan was just right. The banyan tree ice cream was a great way to end the meal. Super refreshing! I got two scoops of Thai tea ice cream and one scoop of the coconut ice cream. Both flavors were fantastic and tasted very creamy. Not too sweet, which is how I like it. Staff: The staff here are very attentive, friendly, welcoming, and polite. Elysha waited on me when I went. She was very attentive, informative, and personable. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum.

The Kare Kare from Spoon & Pork is nothing short of a warm, comforting hug in a bowl…read more When the dish arrived at my table, I was immediately drawn to its rich, golden peanut sauce -- smooth and fragrant, with a roasted nuttiness that made my mouth water before I even took a bite. Nestled in the sauce were vibrant, perfectly cooked vegetables: tender bok choy, slightly charred green beans, and slices of eggplant that had soaked up all the savory depth of the stew. At the heart of the dish lay generous chunks of beef -- fork-tender, deeply flavored, with just enough fat to melt into the sauce and give it that rich, silky mouthfeel Kare Kare is known for. Sprinkled over the top were crunchy bits, adding a satisfying contrast to every spoonful. Of course, the small side of bagoong (fermented shrimp paste) was essential -- a modest dollop transformed each bite, balancing the sweetness and creaminess of the peanut sauce with a punch of briny intensity. Paired with steaming garlic rice, every scoop felt like the perfect blend of textures and flavors, a true homage to the Filipino classic. Eating Spoon & Pork's Kare Kare felt both nostalgic and elevated -- the heart and soul of a traditional comfort food presented with an eye for freshness and balance. It's the kind of dish that makes you slow down, savor each bite, and immediately start planning your next visit.

This was an unforgettable eatery. During our trip to Los Angeles in May, 2023, Wendell invited Jay, Z and me to meet up with Veda and him for a late lunch at 2 PM at one of their favourite Filipino restaurants, Spoon & Pork, on Sunday, the 7th. Spoon & Pork, which originated as a food truck, was a restaurant that specialized in Filipino comfort food with a contemporary twist. They offered a fresh, inventive fusion of the flavours of the Philippines with modern sophistication. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighbourhood, Spoon & Pork was a cozy boutique eatery on bustling Sunset Boulevard that greeted guests with a neon pig sign at their front entrance. No private lot on this busy street, so finding nearby parking was a bit challenging and although the charming spot offered both indoor and al fresco dining, seating was also limited. The tropical-inspired dining room with warm wood accents created an effortlessly cool and relaxed atmosphere that felt both modern and rooted in tradition. Upon entry, guests were welcomed by the aroma of sizzling meats and fragrant spices which alluded to the culinary journeys to come. The food at Spoon & Pork wasn't exactly what one's nanay (mom) or lola (grandma) would cook. Celebrating fresh takes on the richness of Filipino cuisine, the menu was an invitation to indulge in unexpected, compelling twists on a thoughtfully curated selection of traditional dishes, infusing familiar flavours into new forms. Below are what we ordered: beef tapa ($25) - MASARAP (DELICIOUS)! Of all the dishes that we ordered, this was the winner of them all as the succulent meat packed a punch of flavour. adobo tofu ($14) - One of Wendell's regular orders, this notable plant-based option, was a tasty, innovative take on the Philippine classic that balanced tradition with modern creativity. laing ($9) - From their platito, small plates section, this bowl of coconut braised taro leaves was rich and creamy deliciousness, but, yes, mini in portion size. garlic rice ($4/$7) - Ordering the garlic rice over plain jasmine rice was a no brainer. Thoroughly infused with the savouriness of the many bits of garlic, this rice perfectly paired with all of the other dishes. bistek ($28) - The skirt steak was very tender and the sauce perfectly balanced the tanginess from the calamansi juice with the savoury soy sauce. lechon kawali ($23) - Another reimagined classic dish featuring crispy, golden pork belly with crunchy skin and tender, flavourful meat inside. The dish was complemented by a tangy, pickled red cabbage that enhanced the crispy texture and added a refreshing contrast. This mastery of flavour and texture tickled Z's tastebuds and won him over. Before this day, Z was never a fan of Filipino food. Everything tasted boldly rich and every bit intensely intoxicated our taste buds. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. What a remarkably epicurean feast and delightful experience we enjoyed! We're super bummed that Spoon & Pork permanently closed shoppe. Z and I were hoping to return for another tasty meal. Truly, a worthy spot this place was to hit up for an impressively creative taste of the Philippines in Los Angeles.

Don't understand why people complain about pricing for large parties or big orders when they should expect it. I found pricing very fair and straightforward, not too expensive. We shared a couple of dishes: -Lechon Kawali: Crunchy, savory, and fried nicely. Loved the flavor and texture and how it wasn't overly fatty. The dark sauce it came with was good, but I think the brown sauce (like mang tomas) was a bit too sweet. -Grilled Chicken Inasal. Succulent meat, a good charred flavor, and crispy skin. There were some dry bits though. This also paired well with the chicken oil and dark sauce. -Adobo Rice: My friends really liked this one. The rice was fluffy and flavorful. I liked the additions of the fried pork adobo pieces on top but the sauce they were coated in was a bit too salty. The interior is colorful and cozy. The service here was great and the staff were super friendly. They even allowed my friend to bring her small dog inside. There's a good amount of parking in the plaza the restaurant is located in. I'd recommend this spot if you're looking for authentic Filipino food in the LA/Glendale area.
