I was made aware from my aunt's friend about this mortuary company while I was preparing for my mother's recent passing. I was connected with Jenny, the coordinator here at the mortuary. It was a very hard time, and this is the first time I ever had to arrange any kind of funeral procedure. Honestly, everything happened so fast and sudden with my mother's passing, I really don't know what I would have done if Jenny wasn't there to guide me. She was very thorough, patient, and helped to explain the process in a way that I could understand despite the frazzled mind frame that I was in. My family and I decided that the best way to honor my mother's body was to cremate her, and then place her in a niche. I went with the cremation package with Hankook Mortuary, and I felt that the price was fair and reasonable compared to that of its competitors in the area. I am so glad that I went with Hankook Mortuary not just because of the cost, but because of how smoothly her and her team have made the whole process seamless. It was already very difficult managing her sendoff through inpatient hospice, coordinating and working with the supportive care doctors and nurses, Jenny and her team helped to take a lot of the stress from funeral planning. It was one less thing that I had to worry about, and that alone was tremendously helpful for me and my family.   I only have great things to say about Jenny and Hankook Mortuary. I am writing this review years later because the experience was so traumatic that it took a long time before I could even speak about it. My mother passed away from COVID in January 2021, during one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life. I trusted this funeral home to guide me through the process with dignity, sympathy, and respect. Instead, what I encountered was behavior that felt cold, harsh, and completely devoid of compassion. From the beginning, I was not given a clear price list. The explanations were rushed and unclear, and the final cost turned out to be much higher than what I initially understood. When I asked about it, I was spoken to as if my questions were an inconvenience, and I was reminded again and again that they were "too busy" because many people were dying at the time. But the worst and most unforgettable moment happened on the day of my mother's service. My pastor brought a $500 coupon for this funeral home and kindly offered to help me ask if it could be applied to my remaining balance. Instead of handling the matter with professionalism, the staff member named Jenny immediately raised her voice at both of us. She told my pastor that this was "between her and me" and told him to leave the office in a rude and dismissive way. Once he stepped out, she started yelling at me, saying: "There are so many funerals backed up right now. I squeezed your mother into the schedule, and now you show up with a coupon at the last minute? Why didn't you bring this earlier?" As she shouted, she held the funeral schedule chart right up to my face and then threw it onto the floor in anger. I was standing there alone--exhausted, grieving, and still crying over my mother's death--when this happened. I cannot explain the shock and humiliation I felt. What made it even more painful was that other staff members were present, saw what was happening, and did absolutely nothing. Not one person stepped in. Not one person offered comfort, sympathy, or even basic courtesy. It felt as if no one there had the slightest sense of compassion, respect for the deceased, or understanding of what a grieving family goes through. The overall atmosphere I witnessed made me feel that this funeral home operates without the empathy, dignity, or human decency that such a place should have. In a setting where families are saying their final goodbyes, I expected even a small amount of kindness -- but I experienced the exact opposite. I understand that the pandemic was overwhelming for everyone, including funeral homes. But difficult circumstances never excuse treating grieving families with disrespect, hostility, or indifference. What I experienced felt deeply unprofessional, insensitive, and completely inappropriate for a place entrusted with honoring someone's final moments. I know there are not many Korean-run funeral homes in the LA area, and many in the Korean community rely on this one. But based on my experience, I sincerely hope people understand how they operate. If you are considering this funeral home, please be extremely cautious -- and if possible, I strongly recommend choosing another place for your loved one's final arrangements. read more

My father passed away recently, and I had to make arrangements for his funeral. I had had experience with Han Kook mortuary in the past, so I went to them for help. Ricky went through what they offered and was very decent in not pressuring me with added on services. There are quite a few options and aspects to a funeral, and he graciously accepted how I wanted to manage. He was also great in recommending vendors who could help, when I was clueless about how to take care of each aspect - minister, music, flowers etc. Each and every person he arranged for was really great - on time, great communication, and reasonable cost. Ricky was also very prompt and professional in moving the process along. Obviously, losing a loved one is so emotional and one is not at their best to make funeral decisions and arrangements, and I have often heard that it is easy to be taken advantage of during that stressful time, so to have them help me in such a smooth and comfortable and no pressure manner was invaluable. My mom suddenly passed away when I was going go to this HK mortuary the same morning. So I just called them at 3:05 AM, fortunately they answered and made it easy during my most distressed time. Their transport van picked up my mom's remains on time, and they were respectful and polite. At the appointment time our family went to their office to learn/handle the process. They were polite- but extremely soft spoken. We were under duress and it made it much harder to comprehend what was being said. And it was helpful that the man was bilingual, so he repeated most of it in English behind what looked like a bullet proof plexiglass (COVID period prep?). We didn't go for a full package there as my mom wished for a Burial at Sea. So basically we had to get burial, memorial service, celebration of life all separately, and NOT THERE. Perhaps that's why (?), I got the feeling even after we paid $3000.00 for their services, we were handed 4 sheets of paper, not even in a folder! We asked for their business card(s), and a folder, and he seemed like he was unhappy about something. As for the Burial at Sea, he (and a lady) made arrangements for us, ignoring my requests to get the contact information about the skipper (?)/captain, and the boat that we are going to go out off of San Pedro! Only the Date, Time, Address, and the name of the boat, & the Captain. And that we need to tip the captain $100. I asked about the captain's website, his background/experience, safety record etc., NOTHING. I sent a text inquiry in Korean - no response what so ever. Then a week before we were set to go out to sea (ocean), I sent the inquiry in English- specifically asking the "responses in text" so I can share with those going out to sea in our family. Then they called, but did not leave any messages. Call me drama queen, but I thought about Titanic, the movie... I imagined- Going down without life preservers or boat... There really is no robbery, only a knife. The funeral cost that I inquired about over the phone and the funeral cost that I consulted after the deceased was taken care of are so different. They add ridiculous additional costs. The employee who consults seems to have a set amount of money to pay anyway, and they seem to charge at least $10,000 while giving a huge discount under various pretexts. Whether the funeral is held at a funeral home or not, the funeral cost that is charged is the same. I recommend that you receive a detailed funeral cost statement before taking care of the deceased and make a decision. read more

Gosh, there's so much I can say about this great group of people working at the mortuary. My grandmother passed in the thick of COVID 19. They made everything easy, despite many mortuaries being full. My mom wasn't comfortable going alone because of her lack of English. They made sure to relay all information to me, so I can share with her. The setup was perfect to provide enough spacing during the pandemic. They were always kind and helpful. Everything was easy. I am thankful we found them. Their location is super clean and well organized. I recommend this place to everyone. Even though it was a Korean establishment, they still respected our culture and our wishes and made us feel very comfortable given our Latino background. read more

EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! Losing your loved one is very difficult and you'd expect the process of your viewing/burial to be smooth to not worsen your hurt. Yet, I experienced the worst here. Ricky, a complete help. Jenny on the other hand HORRIBLE. She was letting everyone else that wasn't listed on the contract (nor paying for the services) contact her and change arrangements which then interfered with the burial. At the time of the viewing my loved one had extra stuff that I never took for her dressing attire because they again allowed someone else outside of the contact to have a say. I can't express enough gratitude for the exceptional care and support my family and I received from Hankook Mortuary during the loss of my father. From the moment we walked through the door, we were treated with compassion, respect, and professionalism. Absolutely the best service. During hard times they made sure to help and answer all questions we had. Jenny helped us out and there was not one time she didn't answer the phone. I don't even think the phone would ring once before she picked up. She would also answer texts immediately. During these times our minds are everywhere but they were very understanding and showed so much sympathy. My dad passed away unexpectedly and we were not prepared in any way to deal with a funeral. One of the most important things to take care of after a loved one passes (I learned), is to be very wise and selective about the mortuary you choose. Do your research, even though I know it's hard to want to do that during a time like this. After you do your research, you'll quickly learn that this mortuary is the best option in this area. Thankfully, we chose the right one and because we did, everything we had to deal with was seamless and stress-free; a huge blessing when you're not in your right state of mind and are already emotionally, physically, and mentally drained. We had Jenny Lim take care of us from start to finish. She is a particularly great asset to you if you are Korean American, because she is fluent in both languages and is the perfect liaison between you and your family members and other involved parties. Even if you are not Korean American, Jenny and the employees here are extremely experienced and knowledgeable and will be helpful to you. Jenny was very professional, detail-oriented, proactive, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of. For example, she would do the paperwork twice, just to expedite the process between the mortuary and the cemetery, even though she knew she would have to fill it out again once the cemetery received the initial paperwork. Invaluable during a time when you want everything to be done as quickly as possible. During this difficult time, our family had our share of talking with and dealing with people at other mortuaries and companies who were incompetent, unsympathetic, unprofessional, not very knowledgeable, and many other difficult adjectives, so we were extremely appreciative of all the ways Jenny went above and beyond to let us know exactly what was going on, what to anticipate, what to get done, the timelines of everything, who to contact, etc. etc. We knew nothing and she was so trustworthy and didn't miss one single thing. I felt that this company and its employees were honest, competent, helpful, respectful, caring, and sincere. That's exactly what you need during a time when you have so many other things on your plate. We were also extremely appreciative of how Jenny was so readily available and a great communicator, no matter the time of day. She tried her best to give us the best and to be understanding of our financial situation. I can see now in hindsight that if we hadn't gone with this mortuary, we would have dealt with so much hassle and headache, been on edge about being ripped off, and would have had so much more on our plate to deal with, even in our interactions with the cemetery. I cant not describe the feeling of getting ripped off and taken advantaged of while planning my dads funeral. I know funeral costs a lot of money and we were planning to spend all the money necessary to throw a dignified funeral for my father but the way they treated us here made the experience a lot worse. They basically didn't explain all the costs upfront, so after we signed the contract, they started saying, "oh, you have plus this fee, that fee, plus that plate with drawings cost more, and so forth" So the final price ended up costing $3,000 more than the original price signed in the contract, can you believe it? So, if you are in a hurry, perhaps is a quick fix and one stop shop for everything, but if you do have time, and wanna prearrange, please shop around and compare prices. read more

Being more of an Americanized 2nd generation Korean-American, I was initially hesitant to use Han Kook Mortuary. But I was pleasantly surprised with the proficiency of English by most of their staff and the respect I was given. Furthermore, everyone was pleasant, kind, and efficient, making a difficult time a little easier. Although, we did not use many of their services and cannot speak to the condition of their building, I was comfortable with Han Kook Mortuary working in conjunction with the US Army. Jenny Lim was an amazing help during a difficult time. I wanted to write this review specifically to let you all know how much she meant to our family through this experience! She is perfectly fluent in both Korean and English, which was very helpful for our Korean American family. She went out of her way to take care of every last detail and make the planning as easy and uncomplicated as possible. She is an absolute professional with great follow-through and was so quick to contact us ASAP with any updates, answer immediately to any questions (even when I contacted her late at night), and she was extremely thoughtful and considerate in a very sensitive business. The venue is simple and conservative, exactly what we wanted since we didn't want anything too flashy. The staff did a wonderful job to make sure every detail was covered and the ceremony (as well as all the preparation and follow-up afterwards) went smoothly. We had way more guests show up than expected (over 200) so some people had to stand, but I'd say the venue would be good for about 150 people to sit comfortably. Of course, it would not be a big deal if you have a larger size as well, I believe they can accommodate that too. Big parking lot with an attendant on the day of the ceremony which was a pleasant surprise. All in all, it is a simple, hassle-free, very convenient, uncomplicated, professional service with a very thoughtful and dedicated staff who we really trusted as kind people. read more
