I consider myself to be sort of a teriyaki connoisseur, or at the least a dedicated fan. Of all the teriyaki places that I've eaten at in Bellingham, Hana takes the prize as the best in town. For the traditional Chicken teriyaki, their sauce is the best. Slightly sweet, with the perfect balance of flavor. Their salad dressing is a tasty honey mustard-ish type dressing. The only downside is that they sometimes overcook their chicken. Their prices are very reasonable and they have lunch specials on the weekdays (which can get pretty busy so you might want to call ahead and order). They treat their customers nice too. I remember one time they messed up an order I called in, so while I waited they brought me some gyoza on the house! This is why I keep coming back to Hana Teriyaki. read more

We were in the Bellingham area getting our marriage certificate, and to celebrate we looked up some reviews of local teriyaki joints, and people had such great things to say about Hana Teriyaki. Did we go to the same restaurant as you guys?! Seriously...I am amazed with what we got with all of these rave reviews. The rice was mooshy, it was like wet paper in our mouths. I got chicken teriyaki and my fiance' got spicy chicken teriyaki. Both of our teriyaki taste bad. It tasted like the chicken was old, bad. I cut open a piece of my teriyaki and there was some pink, in another piece the chicken was slimy. My fiance's chicken tasted and looked the same, and the spice wasn't even spicy, and if I am saying that - then it really means something. I cannot handle spice, but I took a small bite of his teriyaki and there was absolutely bite, no tang, no spice. It was blander then my teriyaki sauce! We didn't bother to eat the salad, why risk another disappointment? Plus, there were flies all over that kept trying to get on our chicken. I was done. I wasn't too impressed with the 50 cents refills either, we've been to a lot of teriyaki places, and we have never ran into a refill charge! Laaaame, I know there are places like that, but with everything we experienced....Just not impressed. We paid too much for such a bad plate, we left and went to the Teriyaki Bar 3 minutes away, and had the best teriyaki! I'll be raving about that place here, and to anyone else who is looking for a REAL good teriyaki place. read more

It was ok. Nothing special. Spicy chicken was about as bland as it comes. I expected more flavor based on reviews. Salad that comes with meal just lettuce although ginger dressing was sweet but tasty. However, they only put a little on the top 2 leaves. I noticed when I checked my order in the car and had to go back inside. The little man initially started to tell me it was extra till he realized I was his only customer. I have tried the Teriyaki Chicken and spicy chicken. they come with rice and a small salad on the plate. The Teriyaki sauce had a very good sweet flavor, the chicken was moist and had a good char. The spicy chicken was not very spicy but thats not hard to fix. It had good flavor and char, I will be going back soon! read more

This is my absolute favorite teriyaki place I've ever been to!! I am obsessed with the chicken teriyaki. A friend brought me here and I crave their teriyaki all the time! I would suggest calling in before and then coming to pick up! The owners are super friendly and the prices are not expensive based on the huge portions that they give! three stars seems too low because i eat here so frequently and its my favorite teriyaki in bellingham. the truth is i like my teriyaki simple and understated and thats exactly what hana is. its perfect for me. but i dont feel like i can go higher than three stars because it seems like there is a lack of effort by the owners/staff. the salads are fresh but the same type of bagged salad mix you can get at haggen. i hate the use of styrofoam and plasticware for every meal, even dine-in. ive been eating there every monday for two years, i order the same thing every time from the same woman, and yet ive never been greeted with any sort of recognition. overall, nothing amazing going on here, but it is a good value and i will continue to be a regular. read more
