Found it on Yelp by searching for nearby teriyaki joints. A couple of the others were terribly rated, so I gave Hana a shot. This place is outstanding. They made our food in less than 15 minutes. The salad dressing was outstanding and the sauce for the gyozas made me sad when it ran out. The food at Hana Teriyaki is pretty good. Although I don't go there that often anymore, I can remember eating there from back before I was even in high school and I always enjoyed it. I've had lots of things from their menu, some of it is only okay, but other things are really good. My personal favorites are the pork teriyaki and the gyoza; it's very well made compared to how it is in the other teriyaki restaurants. The rice and salad taste fine too; I've eaten at Hana Teriyaki many, many times and have never had bad food served to me. I'm not really sure how other people happen to be served bad-quality food here on their first visit; it has never happened to me. This is the best teriyaki in Bellingham. They just added a new salad dressing and the spicy chicken is a really cool red color.

My favorite teriyaki joint in town. Perfectly charred for my liking and always juicy. The rice is perfectly cooked and everything is sauced just right, not too heavy. The salad is the typical bagged iceberg mix with a few shreds of carrot and red cabbage. I like the crispness of iceberg and it's neutral flavor so I don't mind it. The spicy chicken is not spicy at all, just colored red with sambal without much heat. The gyoza are pretty standard, nothing too fantastic. Service is pretty quick, some times slow during the lunch rush. read more

Years ago when we first moved to Bellingham, we sampled various local teriyaki joints and concluded there wasn't much worth going out of our way for. But recently, we have had some cravings, and so gave Hana a try when we were down by Old Town, despite none of our friends having ever tried it or even heard anything about it one way or the other. We're so glad that we did, and sorry we didn't years ago. The pork in particular is really tasty, though we just get a triple combo every time (with beef & chicken as well). Most 'yaki joints serve up pretty similar fare to each other, which hovers around a 5-6 on a 10-point culinary scale with really great haute cuisine holding the high end of the ratings. But that's kind of what you expect from street food, teriyaki and such, so I still love the stuff - it's tasty, predictable, satisfying, and a good value. The best American restaurant-style teriyaki I've had anywhere probably rates an 8 (with no one really able to match my grandma's more traditional marinated style.) I would give Hana a strong 7+, placing them well ahead of the crowd and making them our go-to teriyaki joint for the foreseeable future. With cross-town traffic so messed up by street work right now, I tried another place on our side of town, that had years ago served up some of that good 5-6 rated teriyaki. What I got tonight was a solid 2, though that's not entirely fair because it wasn't even teriyaki - I'm not sure what it was. About a year ago, I was craving teriyaki, but realized I'd never been to a teriyaki place since moving to Bellingham a few years ago. On advice from a coworker, I went to Teriyaki Bar, where I wasn't impressed. I delayed trying Hana because of a few bad reviews I read, but eventually went there a few months ago because I realized I should try it myself before deciding never to go there. I'm so glad I did. I struggle a bit with the price, because where I moved here from (just a bit farther south... an hour or two), teriyaki was pretty much $5 everywhere. But I do find Bellingham prices in general to be more, and their price is comparable to Teriyaki Bar, and that is my only point of comparison for this area. I've only ever gotten the chicken teriyaki with white rice and salad, so I can only vouch for that, but it is delicious. The chicken is good, the rice is good, there is a healthy portion of food - I've yet to finish it in one sitting and I can EAT! And the little salad that accompanies the order is yummy too. It has the same sweet white sauce I always find at teriyaki places, and the lettuce is always clean and crisp. I've never been disappointed in any of it. I recommend you at least come in and try it once, and then decide. read more

I have loved the food here for years but the cleanliness of the restaurant is just so bad now I can no longer eat here bloody chicken running into the back hall way that you had to walk over to get to the bathroom. Also you can tell they have not cleaned the dining room in years so much dust piled up everywhere and and everything is sticky and gross. We ordered food for pick up and the customer service was good but the food was not very good at all. It reminded me of a bad quality Chinese Buffet. Except for the teriyaki chicken that was the only thing we ordered that was actually pretty good. We ordered the sweet and sour chicken/Mongolian beef combo which was $15!!! (The prices I saw online where lower then the actual prices). The sweet and sour chicken was absolutely disgusting after a bite or 2. We were so hungry it took a couple bites to realize how bad it actually was. The color looks super fake.. really bright like neon reddish/pink. The Mongolian beef was really fatty. Every bit felt like it a mouthful of gristle. We also ordered the Teriyaki chicken/Mongolian beef combo, for $14!! The teriyaki chicken was actually really good but they only gave a small amount and then a huge amount of the really fatty gristly Mongolian beef. The combos didn't come with salads. There was really no veggies except a little onion. We also ordered a side of gyoza which was good. So it came to $46 ($38 plus $8 tip) for 2 people to eat what tasted like a bad Chinese Buffet. I would not go back again or refer anyone. If I ever did go back I would only order the teriyaki chicken because the teriyaki sauce was really good and the chicken seemed decent as well.. but the prices are a little high. read more

Upon walking in and looking at the menu I asked if we could get one teriyaki chicken and split it and he said no. Ended up having to order two. He did not tell us that he had a lunch special that was a smaller portion. When it came there was lots of salad and lots of chicken. I did not care for the salad dressing so could not eat the salad. The Teriyaki sauce has a strange flavor which did not allow me to eat my meal. The place reminded me of that old Woody Allen joke... Where the restaurant food does not taste good... This place is my go-to if I don't quite feel like cooking. Makes for excellent leftovers and super easy to just give them a call before heading out so that the food is ready when I get there. It's typical teriyaki that you can find just about everywhere. The reason for the 1 star rating was the absolute hassling by using a personal check. Yes, I know personal checks are outdated, but I left my debit card at home and had called in the order. When coming to pick it up, I was hassled like a thief. One of my favorite good-tasting, no-frills places for in Bellingham. They have a good lunch special that knocks a buck or two off of an already reasonable price. The place is located on Holly street basically after you pass through the main downtown part of Holly, past the bars and headed over towards the Eldridge neighborhood.. The restaurant has a good amount of seating, it never seems to be too crowded, and the tables are always clean. The menu is posted behind the register, and you walk up and order. I normally grab a glass of water while I wait, and sometimes a mug of hot tea that is always available. Food is usually ready in a few minutes. The chicken teriyaki lunch special consists of a small salad with dressing already on it, a good portion of chicken cut into small strips with a good amount of teriyaki sauce on it, and a couple scoops of seasoned white rice. Overall, a very generous portion. If you are looking good teriyaki, generously portioned, in a quick, clean, easy setting, you can't go wrong with this place. read more
