At the same time I want to rave about how wonderful this stay was. A beautiful hidden gem located in Hana. There is an option of staying at the bungalow or at the guest house. We stayed at the bungalow in June for our upcoming 1 year wedding anniversary, the surroundings were breath taking. A time warp into the jungles of Maui. The bunglow is better suited for couples, it has one bed, a jetted tub, and the tub is located on the patio. Although there are no privacy windows surrounding the patio, you will feel very comfortable because of how high up you are in the bungalow and the number of tropical foliage surrounding the bungalow. Picture a 600 sq ft tree house for grown ups. As ironic as this may sound, a five star hotel normally would not have any critters running around, but I give this place a 5 star rating for the taste of serenity that I have not experienced at any other hotel before. Here in beautiful Hana, you get the true experience of sharing with nature. At night the geckos come out from the rafters of the bungalow and you share the home with the geckos. At night you hear them running across the glass. You also learn survival skills of turning off all lights in the bungalow and leaving on the magic moonlight switch on the patio to lure the bugs and geckos to one side of the home to feed the geckos. If you can live with the geckos and bugs, this is as close to heaven you can get. Without glass windows on the patio, it is instead covered by netting that allows the sounds of nature to come through, you can hear the ocean waves from coast of Hana Beach at night. In the morning you can hear the birds chirping. The short bursts of pouring Maui rain can also be heard and is a calming sound. The laundry machine is outdoors. You share with the guest house. The guest house is quite a distance from the bungalow and you do feel like you're alone even if you are on the same lot. The kitchen is stocked with all the cookingware you may need if you want to cook, dishes, utensils, and dining ware. The bungalow even has a coffee maker, toaster, and stove. In the garden patio, there is a barbecue that you can use. You will have to bring a bag of bbq coals with you unless the previous guest left some behind. The room also comes with a small radio with cd player and some Hawaiian CD's. This might sound cheesy now listening to Hawaiian music in Hawaii, but while you are staying there experiencing the rain, nature, and that feeling of bliss inside you, the Hawaiian music you listen to at the bungalow will be the sounds of serenity you will remember when you're back at your cubicle working the following week. There are a few cats that roam around the home, they live there, and if you're lucky enough, you'll get a happy greeting from them. You have to make a private reservation with the owner of this home to stay here. $225 per night plus 11.42% tax, 3 nights minimum reservation. We booked the minimum of 3 nights here to stay in Hana for the beginning of our trip in Maui and the rest of the trip in hotels in Kaanapali resort area, the first 3 nights was the highlight of our Maui trip. The reservation was a very simple process: 1) Email hamoabay@maui.net or call the owner at (808) 248-7884 asking if the dates you want to visit is available. We booked the trip around being able to stay at the bungalow, we were open to June or September. 2) After setting the available date and reserving, you provide a 50% deposit with the balance due 30 days in advance of the arrival date. You can book with your credit card over the phone. 3) You receive a confirmation receipt by email. 4) After final payment you get your secret directions to finding the hidden gem. 5) Upon arrival you call to tell the owner that you've arrived. 6) You try to cope with your much removed state from the busy life you've escaped from. 7) Day 2, you've succeeded in step 6. Now you explore Hana. 8) Day 3 (if you book only 3 days), you're now sad that you know that this is the last night at the bungalow. 9) Day 4, checking out. You're now sad you have to go and you actually say goodbye to the geckos. 10) Day 5, back at work. You think about booking a trip to Maui again to stay at the bungalow, Go for it! First of all you are tucked away in the jungle seemingly alone i.e. far from others staying there, and separated from nature by screening. Sounds of jungle birds are unreal! Since our bungalow was up in the trees and our view was of the treetops, we really felt like Tarzan and Jane. There is an Indonesian feel to the place. The shower seemed outdoors since on the lanai and surrounded by floor to ceiling screening. I loved the batik material panels surrounding the shower/tub. The breeze running through the bungalow kept them flowing. Lots of bamboo in the decor, the bed base etc. The soft lighting was accomplished by the large white paper lanterns that we've all seen before -- so charming in this setting. The owner has Kona coffee for your breakfast in the little kitchen with beautiful jungle view and brings homemade banana bread every morning. She also had a sound system on the lanai with a choice of great music. - We loved the Hawaiian sounds. Lovers who had stayed here wrote their experiences in a beautiful journal which we found ~ wonderfully romantic reading ~ we added our stories ~ Exotic, Enchanting, Unique, Unforgettable, Extraordinary!

Our unit only had an AC in the living room and just fans for the bedroom and a couple small nightstand cooling fans. We opted to stay in the living room with the pullout bed, which was nice and Chris with the AC as the bedroom was a little bit too warm for our liking. Can't complain the day was awesome. We had designated parking and there was a designated pool that we could use if we wanted to and lots of space to walk around on the grass. Couldn't really ask for more and would probably stay here again. The next time we go to Maui. Our unit did have a messed up dryer so we couldn't dry our clothes using it and had to hang them all and also quite a bit of ants but nothing too concerning overall.

There was sand and hair in the shower, which was not wheelchair or walker accessible. After a 5.5 hr flight, we didn't want to be displaced due to a complaint so I cleaned to the best of my ability. There was no place to hang clothing. When we did notify Vacasa, they said they would give me back the $270 cleaning fee I paid. Vacasa misrepresents the properties, and in my opinion, this was a health risk and consumer fraud case. I will report and provide photos. Bedroom closets were stuffed with miscellaneous items, vacuum, boxes, no room to hang clothing.​

My friend and I were in the middle of a bike touring trip in Maui, when a storm hit--the rains were…read moreinsane and there was lightning, high winds, water flooding the roads. We made it to Makawao and took shelter on a shop porch. After a few hours of waiting for the storm to pass, we realized that it wasn't going to happen and started trying to find nearby lodging for the night. After calling several places that were either too far away or closed due to covid, we tried The Banyan Tree and the owner Helaina took pity on us and gave us the last room, even though it was extremely short notice and she was really busy dealing with the deluge of water on the property. She was so nice--met us in the downpour with fluffy dry towels and later offered to make us a pizza because she knew we didn't have a car to go get food. We stayed in one of the cottages with two beds and it was great. The beds were comfortable, there's a full, well-equipped kitchen, and it was just nice and clean and quiet. There's also a beautiful view of the valley from the garden and a huge, awesome-looking pool/cabana/hot tub area (although we obviously didn't get to use it). So highly recommend staying at the Banyan Tree, especially in the event of a severe multi-day rainstorm!

Great accommodations and clear instructions on procedures and policies that they send and communicate via e-mail. Also a wonderful location in the center of Hana Town. Loved how they had the kitchen set up and there was instant oatmeal and coffee among other things provided. In this post-COVID era, you are assigned exclusive use of a bathroom. Codes are provided in the e-mail a few days prior to your arrival...one is for the downstairs main living room and kitchen, and the other is for your room and assigned bathroom. The rates are reasonable and much cheaper than the resort or even other B&Bs nearby. I guess the only issue was having to deal with any mosquitos, knowing this side of the island tends to be more lush compared to places like Kihei and Lahaina. Luckily, I did have my own mosquito repellant, but maybe for those who are more prone to mosquito bites and may have forgotten to pack some with them, perhaps some bug repellent spray could be provided. Anyways, I hope to stay at Hana Inn again sometime down the road. It sure beats having to deal with the crazy and bad traffic where I live in Honolulu.

I put my credit card number down to hold the room, and you pay her cash when checking in at the office, which is her place of residence. It looks like there were 2 rentals on her property, but the one we stayed at was just around the block on Hana Hwy. The 3 of us paid a total of $130. What a deal for an entire house compared to other vacation rentals. THE HOUSE: It's definitely older but was clean. We had use of a 2-car garage, full kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom (shower but no tub) and 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with two twins. There's a small balcony which has a great view of Hana Bay. The sole TV in the living room has basic cable. The cabinets were stocked with plates, cups and utensils. They provided us with towels but we all brought our own. The sofas in the living room were definitely old and sunk badly. The beds were adequate. There are just 2 drawbacks. First, the bedroom with the two twin beds had something in the ceiling & walls making a scratching noise. Ratatouille perhaps? Second, the house is located above the owner's son's place. Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am. You have to be out of the house by 10:45am on your day of departure. You simply go back to the office and hang the key outside the door. OVERALL: Very decent digs for the price. It feels great to support a local business as opposed to the fancier vacation rentals. The owner is a sweet elderly lady who even let us park our car at her office which was closer to the Taro Fest. We'd definitely go back.

Owners Eva and Jim are awesome and have operated the bed and breakfast for many years now and it was such a pleasure to meet them during my stay as well as meet their family and super cute energetic smaller terrier dogs. I was in the Papaya Suite and definitely plenty of space, with a separate bedroom, kitchen bathroom, and the living room! And did I mention, the great breakfast food and other snacks in the provided basket as well as fresh fruit, cereal, milk and other items inside the refrigerator and freezer? Definitely saved me time and money from having to drive to the nearest bakery or market! Yes, this is a real Bed & Breakfast and definitely worth every dollar! There are three other suites available for booking and there is usually no minimum stay required except during certain times of the year like the holiday season or special local events, for instance. Also, guests are offered a 10% discount if they pay in check/cash versus charging to their credit/debit card, and I opted to provide Eva with the check. You will also find two common areas, and one of them is right outside the Papaya Room on the ground level where there are other tables, chairs, and a BBQ. The other common area is upstairs on the lanai, where there are more tables and chairs, and ultimately a lovely view of Kihei and the West Maui Mountains! Our hosts were Eva and Jim and they were more than generous with the breakfast and amenities at their home. During our stay in the Pineapple suite, the restroom/kitchenette/bedroom were organized and had plenty of space for two people. It was easy to feel at home within the first few minutes after settling in. Eva was easily accessible for questions about the island/ local recommendations and was more than accommodating for our breakfast options (fresh local fruit, pastries, coffee, etc.). There was also onsite laundry, swim gear, and sunscreen/mosquito repellent. Whatever Eva was managing with guests, we also observed that Jim kept up with quick repairs/maintenance on the property. My partner's favorite part of this stay was the fruit and their dogs!!! I too loved their fur babies in addition to the view from the second floor deck (phenomenal during sunset). We are truly impressed with the hospitality and welcome that these seasoned hosts provided.

Two weeks ago, I was visiting family in Paia. Turns out, they'd never taken the Road to Hana, and…read morewanted to see what all the fuss is about. We planned to spend a day driving and sight-seeing, arrive in Hana for the night, and then get up bright and early to hit Haleakala National Park further on down the road. This is the place the we booked in Hana, and we were seriously glad we did. First of all, just as promised, we got an amazing view of the beach. It's across the street from the Bay, and at 5:30 or 6 A.M., I walked down to snap some pictures. Straight out of my camera, they looked like postcards. Easily one of the best sunrises I've seen in my life. As for the place itself, it feels less like a rental property and more like a home. The kitchen was stocked with some basic non-perishable items (extra-virgin olive oil, salt, pepper, bottled water in the fridge, some A1 sauce, etc.) and enough supplies to make a meal yourself (regular and ceramic knives, foil, cookie sheets, I think a few pots, a baster, and a scrub-brush for the sink). We went into town and got steaks and potatoes. Broiled and baked them in the oven without a problem. There's a good-sized TV in the living room with a good selection of movies (The Mask, Stripes, The Dark Knight Rises, almost surprisingly, The Red Violin...) and a DVD/Blu-Ray player. The couch can fit about three people, and folds into a bed. Obviously not the best bed (more like a cot), but it's an option. The bedroom has a King-sized bed with comfortable sheets and memory foam. In height, it looks literally king-sized. The thing is massive. There's a smaller TV in an armoire in this room, a nightstand, and some outlets. About as expected. I was in love with their bathroom, though. Plenty of space, a linen closet (stocked with towels), a nice sink with a clean mirror, and oh my god, the shower. Big enough to fit about three of me (I'm 6'1), wonderfully even water pressure, and it has its own light that makes everything cream-yellow and dreamy. There's a tiny window with a screen in there, just big enough to let in some early-morning air or a late breeze, but high up and small enough that it doesn't feel creepy. Definitely my favorite feature of the place. There's also a space underneath the stairs going out that has a gate. Inside are some boogie boards and I think one surfboard. Didn't test them out, but it's great that they had them. After racking my brain, the only problems I can find with the place are that they could use some hypoallergenic pillows (they had down ones), and the sink lacked a garbage disposal. Didn't really expect one. Just something I noticed. Overall, for the money and the area, I can't imagine a better deal. We only stayed for a night, but from what we saw, it's an excellent spot. If you're doing the Road to Hana, I'd definitely check it out.
