My favorite go to place on the weekend. They are very friendly and has the best burgers.

Stopped by here after trying a different local eatery earlier in the week. I was not disappointed! The food was good as was the service, and portions were more than ample. I tried the Beef Rick to be different and it was amazing in a backwoods, home style way. Service was good, nothing exceptional but adequate and attentive. The decor was nice for this type of restaurant, which are usually what I like. Nothing fancy but welcoming. Will be back next time I'm passing through and hungry. read more

I go the Shack for lunch about once a week. Sometimes I order off the menu, and sometimes I get the lunch special. Country fried steak day is a special time for me. The Shack makes a solid hamburger and an equally solid Philly cheesesteak. My dad likes the catfish sandwich, and my son will get the steak. Everyone is happy with their food here. They have a dipped tender sandwich that is sublime. (A dipped tender is a chicken tender dipped in hot sauce.) I often go with my friend Rick who the Chicken Rick is named after. Oddly, he has never ordered Chicken Rick when I'm with him. The service is always good. Sometimes it can get busy and take a minute to get your food, so be prepared. You can call in your order if you want. The Shack is extremely casual. It has a lot of local flavor. read more

In the past this place has been a must when in the area. It was a given to go eat there in a Friday or Saturday night. The food was good and the atmosphere is hard to beat. A fun place to be. Well things have slowly changed. The salads have went from a shredded lettuce to regular head for the salad. We asked why and the waitress said the owner made the change due to price. We over looked it because it just wasn't the same. This past weekend we were there and from the time we sat down it took one hour and forty five minutes to get our food. Thank goodness we order an appetizer and had a side salad. I can under stand being busy but that is an EXTREMELY long wait. Not to mention a group beside us brought there own Bluetooth speaker and played loud music at their table. The group consisted of 8-10 people. So loud I might add that they basically had to yell at each other to carry on a conversation. Foul language was prevalent. One gentleman got up from the table and went outside. When he came back in he had a single electric stove top eye and what looked like some type of smoking device with a hose. After a little digging it looks to be a tabletop Hookah device. No one that was employed there to my knowledge said a word to them. HONESTLY JOY A PLACE I WILL BE BACK TO and that pains me to say that. Word in Marion is they lost their cook so that might be some of the problem. read more

We ate at The Shack for the first time 7 years ago, and my husband has been raving about it ever since. With our youngest attending MMI this year, we jumped at the chance to eat here again, and it was just as good as we remembered. The menu includes items such as hamburger steak, fried catfish, and of course, barbecue. You can get sandwiches or platters. Platters come with 2 sides; sweet potato or regular fries, baked potato, onion rings, or coleslaw, and Texas toast. If you get a platter, plan on taking food home, they don't skimp in portions. The Shack is exactly what it claims to be, shack like. It has a very laid back atmosphere with peanut shells on the floor, but don't let that stop you from eating here. Great bartender who will go off on anyone if need be, music was perfect, atmosphere super laid back, AND THE FOOD, we had the Philly was so perfectly delicious, the wings were phenomenal and the drinks were cheap but perfect. Second time eating here. My wife and I came in with two more obstacle course racers for a race at MMI. After 20 minutes, I went in to ask for ice water and some cups. After 15 more, another in our party went in to ask for refills, hoping for a gentle reminder of our presence. The server came and took our order. No one ordered anything besides straight off menu. She brought our fried pickle appetizer about 15 minutes later. Somewhere around an hour and 45 minutes in, a lady (manager?) came to our table and offered up what might have been her version of an apology, saying they were very busy. Except that we saw someone come in 20 minutes after us get their food. So, I tucked a few dollars under a cup for the pickles and we left hungry. The night before a grueling race. I suggested to the race director at MMI not recommend the Shack again. No one wants to eat at 9:00 pm the night before a race. At the very least, tell potential customers that the estimated wait for their food is 1.5-2 hours and let them make the decision to wait or not. read more

I cannot believe this place is still open. I only ate/drank here once and it was nearly 7 years ago, but it was the only redeeming moment of being stuck in Marion, Al (which is a completely forlorn and poverty riddled town, btw). Got there around 6 or 7 on a Tuesday night and the place was nearly empty. The local who was with me knew the owner so he walked behind the bar and grabbed us some beers right out of the cooler. Long story short we ended a dreadful day with some nice people and a pretty decent meal for cheap. Which is why I had just assumed this place had gone out of business by now. Who can keep a place open with prices like that? read more

The Shack is a little hard to find as its not really on a main road, but its definitely worth the trip. Me and my friends decided to check it out because we heard it is where a lot of the locals go and we were looking for and authentic Marion experience.. We stopped by on a Friday evening and the place was fairly crowded. We tried the burgers and they were really juicy and delicious and most importantly CHEAP! We ended up talking to a lot of the locals and had a blast, staying well past midnight learning all about their lives and just talking. The Shack usually closes around 9 or 10pm most days but the bar may stay open later depending on the people still in there. It definitely is a place for a bit older crowd, but I'm sure children would be welcomed more towards lunch time. Definitely would recommend trying to stop by for some good BBQ and burgers! read more
