LAST STOP on the For the Culture: DMV Food Tour...DESSERT! Tipsy Scoop was the very last stop of the tour, and honestly, the concept is GENIUS. Boozy ice cream with all kinds of different flavors, plus non-alcoholic options for people like me who don't drink. ‍ We were given three samples as part of the tour (don't ask me the names because I absolutely forgot ). I also bought two additional pints to take home with my own money, so clearly the ice cream passed the test! It was good, not overly sweet, and even the alcohol-infused samples weren't so strong that I couldn't tolerate them as a non-drinker. The shop itself is VERY tiny and was SUPER busy, with customers constantly coming in and out. The communication between the tour and Tipsy Scoop, however, was...interesting. The staff apparently didn't know our group was coming, and that was actually shared with another paying customer while we were there. There also wasn't much direction from the tour hosts, so our entire group basically walked into this tiny shop at once. Now, I completely understand why that was a problem. We were a LARGE group taking up a lot of space in an already packed store. What I didn't love was how the manager essentially kicked our group out. I understood the need to clear the space, but the delivery could've been handled a little better. At the same time, based on what we were told, it didn't appear Tipsy Scoop had been properly prepared for a whole food tour to descend upon their tiny store. So I'm not putting the tour's coordination issues on Tipsy Scoop. As a business, I liked the concept, enjoyed what I tried, appreciated having a non-alcoholic options, AND left with two more pints. Would I return? Maybe. Just not with an entire tour bus behind me. read more

Delicious boozy ice cream, fun to try! There are about a dozen boozy flavors with 5% alcohol and 4 non-alcoholic flavors. Some flavors are more booze forward than others. Best of all, sprinkles are complimentary! Before committing to a flavor, definitely try a sample. The ice cream was so good that I came back twice in a week! There are also non- The Tequila Hot Chocolate was hands-down my favorite flavor and seriously tasted like hot chocolate with a dash of tequila. The Spiked Cotton Candy was among my top picks and on the sweeter side compared to the Cake Batter Vodka Martini, which both have a subtle hint of vodka. The Vanilla Bourbon had a strong note of Bourbon. The Spiked Hazelnut Coffee and Dark Chocolate Whiskey Salted Caramel were pretty subtle. The 1st time I went, I got those 2 flavors and honestly wasn't that impressed. I'm so glad I went back and tried other flavors. After enjoying the Beerfest at Na t s stadium we capped off the evening with a visit to Tipsy scoops. We arrived in the evening and many nods the non milk screams were sold-out. However, the young lady at the counter indicated they had one sherbet type that she thought I would enjoy ..and she was absolutely correct. Numerous varieties were offered on the menu both milk based and non milk based products. Please ensure you bring identification because they do check to ensure you are at the age for consumption of alcohol products (get it...Tipsy). Seating was available inside and out. However, parking in the immediate area is a premium. However, there are parking garages in the immediate area. The young ladies were pleasant and customer focused. Went on two separate occasions and they were out of stock of basically all the sorbets each time. One time they one had one flavor of the sorbet second time they had two flavors. But no mango , cherry blossom, or strawberry . Only had raspberry sorbet. Had many of the icecream ones minus the second time didn't have the hazel nut one. So couldn't do the speciality flavors I wanted the tequila sunrise . And it wasn't enough of one of the flavors for the flight. My friend was in town and wanted to try this spot, and I'm glad we did! The temps were in the 80s, so it was the perfect time for something cool. I love the concept here with ice cream or sorbet paired with alcohol like tequila or whiskey. I sampled several flavors, and while I was hoping to love the chocolate with whiskey and salted caramel (it ended up tasting more like plain chocolate cream), the raspberry limoncello with tequila was a winner. I decided to try this place after passing by the store several times throughout my time in DC. I decided to sample some flavors before I finally decided on the vanilla bean bourbon. I will say the scoop of ice cream was good, but respectfully, I will not go out of my way for a $9 ice cream scoop anytime soon. TS locations are called barlours, a combination of the words "bar" and "ice parlors" (the British spelling of parlors). The DC location is one of seven company-owned locations. However, when I visited this location, I found four vegan and dairy-free options available. I decided to try a scoop of each: raspberry limoncello and strawberry white sangria sorbets. I was told that the mango gelato was dairy free (in a list of other diary-free options). I was surprised that they had a dairy-free gelato (and such a good one), so I asked both before and after I tried a sample to confirm that it was, in fact, dairy free. Thankfully, they list their ingredients on the lids of the tubs, so before I ate a whole scoop of it, I caught the work "Milk" high on the ingredients list. If you are not 100% certain that you know whether or not something is dairy-free, gluten free, etc. PLEASE JUST SAY "I DON'T KNOW" AND CHECK! Especially when the ingredients are right there on the lid!! And the person has asked you multiple times for confirmation!! I would rather just hear an honest "I don't know" than be fed something that might make me sick later. UPDATE: Apparently the alleged business owner either didn't read the actual words I wrote or is more interested in trying to save face than apologizing for a mistake and trying to fix it. Let me be crystal clear: I was told that the mango GELATO was dairy free. NOT the sorbet. The gelato. I was given a sample of the gelato (a sample which contained dairy, after I had just asked for dairy-free options). I was told before and after that what I sampled was dairy free. I saw the lid of the tub containing the gelato that I had just sampled and that was about to be served to me in a cup. I am not confused. It is your employees who are confused and clearly need better allergen training. You are lucky that I have a low-level dairy sensitivity and not a life-threatening dairy allergy. A sample is more than enough to kill someone with that kind of allergy. To be clear, I'm not interested in putting anyone down. This is a safety issue and should be handled accordingly. I sincerely hope that the owner of this shop will take the opportunity to learn from this incident and ensure the safety of their customers. read more

We were able to try all the flavors that are offered. They have ice cream and sorbet. You make two cocktails in class. I'm not sure if they are different each class. In our class we made the cherry bomb (ice cream base) and the Day Drinker( sorbet base). Both drinks were delicious. At the end of the class you get a souvenir glass and 20% discount on the purchase of a pint (if purchased in class). $20.35 (food: boozy flight) Tipsy Scoop monologue: So, on a nice stroll in this area of DC, the Tipsy Scoop Barlour appeared on my left. That name really caught my attention. Cute! I turned to face the window, read the window and was pleasantly excited about this option. I've never heard of this infusion and looked forward to indulging. A few days later, some folks came to visit me. Tipsy Scoop was on our things to do list. We strolled on over to this place and got there just in time. The shop is small, with a few seats. When we arrived, there were about 4 people in line. We ordered our boozy flights, 2 orders (I don't remember our flavors but take a look at the pics) and commandeered 3 seats, immediately. The presentation was super cute. It's a play on flights, like a beer or wine flight. Cute! Now, it was a bit melty (yes, that is a word...today), so that made for a bit of a messy experience. The cups that the ice cream was in, were too small for the spaces on the holder. The cups moved around in the positions they were placed. I would have liked for it to be a bit more snug. There are holes on the bottom of the flight holders, so all the melted ice cream escaped through the bottom (see the pics). The ice cream wasn't strong in flavor and where was the alcohol? Really, going to the Tipsy Scoop was just an experience; to try something for the first time. So, if you are looking for a new experience, with ice cream, yeah, go check it out...just to say you tried something new. P.S. - If you decide to wear your super cute clothes when you visit here, be super careful how you bring the melty ice cream to your lips. Either ask for some water, so you can instantly get the spilled ice cream off your clothes, or be sure to scoot all the way up to the table. Oh and don't expect to get "tipsy". read more

I was so excited to finally make it here. But it looks like so many other people were as well. There was a line out the door. There is metered street parking on the street out front of the shop as well as adjacent streets. It is located in Chinatown by the Capitol One Arena where the Washington Capitals play. The shop offers boozey ice cream that you can get in a flight, a cup, a cone, sundae, cocktail or cookie. You can also purchase pre-made pints. They have a very limited flavor selection that includes: Spiked Mint Chip, Raspberry Limoncello Sorbet, Tequila "Hot" Chocolate Ice Cream, Mango Margarita Sorbet, Strawberry White Sangria Sorbet, Spiked Hazelnut Coffee, Dark Chocolate Whiskey Salted Caramel and Vanilla Bean Bourbon. They also have some non-boozy ice cream available for those that do not drink or are not of age. The shop has very limited seating available where you can sit and enjoy your frozen treat. The shop is colorful and decorated with some nice murals. I waited in line about 15 minutes and ordered a Spiked Mint Chip cookie and got a pint of Raspberry Limoncello Sorbet. The cookie was delicious. I really liked the ice cream. It has to be my favorite thus far. The cookie was also very savory, be it small. I will say that the cookie was very messy though and looked nothing like its picture on the website. It was also very small. The pint was ok, but keep in mind that the ice cream is very hard to get a good freeze because of the booze in it. Hence, the messy cookie sandwich. I happened to be in the area, and decided to come back here on a whim. I'm glad I did! I got there at about 2:30pm on a Sunday. When I came in, there was a group of 4 already there, but that was it, so I was able to get a seat no problem. By the time I ate and left, it was getting fairly crowded, but there were still a couple seats left. This time, I decided to get one of the Sundaes (I chose the It's My Party sundae). I believe it was $21, and I felt it was worth the price - especially considering you get to keep the glass! It was filled to the brim and had some cute decorations. I still didn't really taste alcohol in the cake batter ice cream, and I felt it tasted mostly like vanilla by itself, but the sprinkles and whipped cream helped it have more of a "birthday cake" feel and taste. This particular sundae also comes with an extra "shot" of an ice cream flavor of your choice. I decided to do the Cherry Blossom Old Fashioned, and it was really good! It was a unique flavor and isn't something you can just get anywhere else. I loved that this gave the opportunity to try something else. Customer service was also great. They greeted me as soon as I came in. The person who took my order was patient as I made my decision. They also asked me if I had any allergies, which I thought was really smart, and I haven't been to many places where that is asked without the customer mentioning it. They also switched out the glass I got my sundae in for a clean glass, which I appreciated! It makes a ton of sense to do so, but other places I've been just had me keep the same glass a product came in. Finally, perhaps the biggest change from my first visit is that they have changed the prices on a few items. I'm not sure if this is permanent or if they changed them for a temporary promotion, but the cost of the flight is now $18.50 (I think) vs $28 (the happy hour price is still $11). I think this is much more reasonable, and I would be inclined to get the flight again if the prices stay where they are (I didn't notice the change until I had already ordered, or that may have been what I got). If this *is* a permanent change, then it seems they are listening to customer feedback, which is commendable. Overall, I don't have any complaints about my second visit to Tipsy Scoop. Went with co-workers for a quick afternoon outing and they have a ton of flavors. Service was quick and samples were offered.

We came here on a Saturday afternoon and there were not many people inside. I have wanted to try this place for a long time since it is so unique and I've never heard anything like it! The worker was so so kind and gave me two samples: the mint chocolate and cherry blossom. The alcohol taste was not very strong in the mint chocolate which is why I ended up ordering it since I did not want to eat bitter ice cream. The cherry blossom had a really strong whiskey taste which was not what I enjoyed but if you like whiskey, this flavor would be absolutely perfect! There is only street parking available so if you come on a weekend, it will take some time to find parking. Their bathroom is pretty clean and the interior was mostly pink, which is my favorite color and very enjoyable for an ice cream shop!
