Pitango's gelato is a great way to beat the heat and I'm glad we stumbled across it while walking around last week. I ordered the sour cherry and Vidama Noir chocolate sorbet. Should've ordered a bigger cup! They were each delicious on their own, but together created a fantastic duo. The cherry complimented the deep and rich chocolate flavor. The cashier was pleasant and friendly as I tried several flavors before deciding. My friend ordered the lemonade, but it wasn't quite to her liking. However, I am looking forward to trying additional flavors!
Service was super friendly and inviting. I had the affogato- that espresso was strooong and kept me awake most of the night! I wanted a little more gelato - call me greedy but the one side schmear was not enough for me! They have a fresh selection of baked goods. I tried the chewy almond cookie and it was perfect in soft interior texture and crispy edges ... We tried the coffee cake, too. Huge portion- a tad drier than I like.
They serve gelato how it's meant to be served! Not all out and about and piled high with "extras" and bright colors. So was happy to see this! Wasn't gonna order anything here until I saw that and knew it was legit. Wonderful and friendly staff. Enjoyed the ice cream as well. I will say that $10 is a lot for a large. It's really not "large" in most standards, maybe more a medium, but for 2 to split something it had to happen. So wish it wasn't so pricey, but that's the only downside. UPDATE: After reading their bio about organic and all natural ingredients without the bad crap, I would gladly pay $10 for this again.
I knew Pitango has excellent gelato, but found out today they also have excellent coffee. We tried an affogato with chocolate ice cream (they said hazelnut was too hard to scoop,) and also an iced latte with whole milk. Both delicious.
Perfect little cafe nestled between storefronts, the perfect blend of gelato, coffee and a family friendly environment.the staff was quick, the flow of customers was nonstop, so finding a counter spot was perfect. I ordered a chai and it was perfectly made, extra hot and full of flavor. Just a quick stop and worth the wait.
The ice cream and gelato in these places doesn't usually vary that much, but the ice cream was unusually good. It had a sort of rubbery texture -- which might not sound great but it was. Go have dinner at Oyemel (very close), save some room, and grab an inexpensive and tasty dessert here.
The gelato at Pitango was delicious! The black tea gelato had great flavor, and it was really rich. I'm glad I only got one scoop - two probably would've been too much. My second scoop was almond flavored, and it was my favorite. I absolutely loved it & would get it again next time!
So glad I stopped in here! The sorbet selection was extensive! Settled on the dark chocolate and kiwi! Wowwww The kiwi was so refreshing and paired so well with the dark chocolate sorbet. I want to go back and try more flavours (pomegranate and cantaloupe sorbet!!!)

After a late dinner around downtown, we stopped by Pitango Gelato and sometimes you cannot pass up on dessert. I had the two scoops in a cup - Hibiscus Blossom and Golden Kiwi flavors. My goodness was it delicious. I can't pick one over the other because both flavors complemented well together. My husband ordered a cup too - black tea and blood orange flavors. Outstanding. If you are an orange sherbet fan - the blood orange flavor tasted how a healthy orange sherbet should be. If we are in the area again, we will return. Staff was friendly and assertive with the busy crowds, all payments are accepted.
We were having cravings for something sweet, and gelato was the move! I settled on the lemon, chocolate hazelnut and matcha green tea. It hit just the right spot! Nothing was too sweet, and the matcha green tea flavor didn't have any bitter aftertaste. My favorite is definitely between lemon and chocolate hazelnut. I almost always get chocolate hazelnut with another flavor but with summer coming, the lemon will be a really good choice! The staff are really helpful with recommendations. They're quite patient while you figure out what flavors you want because they have a lot of different flavors to choose from! I think they have consistent foot traffic throughout the year, but they are pretty good about serving you quickly. There aren't as many seating options because they have a smaller seating area, so they can have a pretty full area when they're busy. Still would stop by whenever the cravings kick in! They just a little bit pricey, but when cravings hit, the cravings hit! Definitely recommend.
My family and I had a hankering for some ice cream late night and found Pitango on Yelp. It was one of very few places open past 9:00 pm in the area. There was a small crowd of people inside the cafe, but we were able to order quickly and had great service. There were many sorbet and gelato flavor options, as well as a vegan option. I had the chocolate hazelnut and pistachio flavors and both were solid choices that pair well together.
I really needed something to cool down on this blazing hot summer day in DC. I happened to pass Pitango on my walk to the museum since they had gelato and I'm so glad I stopped. I got a small Hibiscus Blossom Sorbet that was smooth, bright, and delicious. Happy to know I found a new spot. I also can't forget how kind all of the workers were. Greeted upon arrival and loved the service. I'll be back for a pastry and coffee next.
Perfect place to get sorbet on a hot day :) We were looking for a sweet treat after walking around DC and decided to try this place out! They have a vast selection of gelatos and sorbets in unique flavors - we ended up trying the passion fruit and mango sorbets. Texture was smooth and creamy, and not cloyingly sweet. Very refreshing and gave us a burst of energy to continue with our sightseeing! read more

I really needed something to cool down on this blazing hot summer day in DC. I happened to pass Pitango on my walk to the museum since they had gelato and I'm so glad I stopped. Great amount of options. We got the raspberry and coconut. the coconut was very good. The espresso machine was down at the time but they notified customers the second they walked in to remove any confusion. Ambiance is nice small and cozy. read more
We stopped by for a little treat while we were around the area. I ordered the tumeric and ginger, pistachio, and tamarind. I really like the tumeric and ginger because you can taste the ginger in it. The pistachio was very creamy. The tamarind was a little different. It was a sorbet with a tart and sour taste. Service was quick because they didn't have a long line. The shop was tiny so it doesn't fit that many people in the shop. They also sell coffee but I didn't get a chance to try any of them. read more

The good thing that sets this gelato place apart from a lot of the other ones in DC is that all of their gelato is lidded in metal containers per flavor. And this is a great sign that differentiates it from tourist-adjacent gelato spots because similar to authentic gelato places in Italy, there is no dramatic presentation that splays out the gelato with mix-ins and exposure to the general refrigerated air. Sacrificing casing presentation comes at the price of delivering actual high quality gelato that have unique and thoughtful flavors, likely made with a high quality milk. When we recieved our cup, the milk had a slight thick, almost stringy, quality to it which has a great mouth feel, and this is probably only achieved by going through the proper gelato-making process. Unique flavors such as nuts, teas, and underrated fruits such as cantaloupe really shine through in these circumstances where they are able to distill the flavors much more. Its great gelato, especially in the city, this is my recommendation for those looking for a sweet treat. It appears to be small batch, there is a variety of gelatos and sorbettos, and its just made the right way! read more
Not too bad but I wouldn't order affogato here... just gelato or sorbet itself would be simply satisfying! Service was amazing as he was very generous with sampling so I was able to decide on which flavors as I was indecisive! It was very chill as I was deciding on which and it was not as busy as I thought during middle of the day. Not complaining though. read more

If you're looking for delicious gelato, this is the place to go. I was genuinely impressed by the quality--especially the vegan options. I expected them to taste more like a sorbet or icee, but they were incredibly creamy and full of flavor. Yes, the line is long, but totally worth the wait. Prices are on the higher side (a small is around $8), but the quality justifies it. Plus, they'll happily give you samples if you ask--definitely take advantage of that and try some of the more exotic flavors. One of the vegan options I tried was chocolate, and it absolutely blew my mind. Easily the best chocolate gelato I've had--vegan or not. You honestly wouldn't even guess it's dairy-free. We also tried the cherry lemonade, a special for the Cherry Blossom Festival. It was refreshing, but didn't quite deliver on the cherry flavor for me. Still, overall an amazing experience and a must-try spot if you're a gelato fan. read more
I stopped by Pitango for dessert, and it definitely hit the spot! I tried two flavors: Stracciatella (vanilla with chocolate chips) and Fondente (dark chocolate). I don't usually eat gelato, so I was pleasantly surprised by the creaminess. The service was excellent; I wasn't sure what to choose, but the cashier helped me by offering samples and sharing details about each flavor I tried. One of the chocolate flavors I sampled was incredibly rich and chocolatey--it's water-based and vegan-friendly, which was a first for me! The restaurant was nice, clean, and had indoor seating that could accommodate several people, but I decided to take my treat to go. read more

Mom and I were wandering the city looking for a sweet treat and came across Pitango. I've been meaning to try it, and just haven't yet. I'm so glad I finally did! I ordered a small, which comes with two scoops. It was really hard to decide which flavors, but I ended up choosing the dark chocolate, and the cinnamon. Both are amazing. The dark chocolate will cut any chocolate craving and the cinnamon was just so delicious- not overwhelming at all. I really enjoyed both. It was also nice that they let you sample (my cinnamon sample influenced my decision). Please note that it's insanely expensive. For two smalls, it cost over $17 without tip. I understand the quality of the ingredients is high, but damn. That's a bit much. read more
TL;DR: on the pricey side but the flavors are oh so good! Stopped by after an afternoon at the National Mall, this was a perfect post-museum pick me up! I got the mojito sorbet (lime and fresh mint) and black tea gelato (milk tea) in a regular size and my friend got the coconut gelato and mango sorbet. All the flavors were excellent! Service was friendly and they were very happy to let us try a bunch of samples before we ordered. They have very few bar seats in the shop but we sat outside on the bench in the sun and it was absolutely perfect. Flavor review Mojito: deliciously refreshing with a wonderful fresh lime juice flavor and it even managed to retain that deliciousness that fresh mint has. Awesome on a warm day Black tea: this was like a milk tea flavor and had a really good amount of tea flavor in it without getting too milky. The ice cream also had that great sticky melt in your mouth texture that good gelato has so I was very happy Coconut: so good! Tasted exactly like delicious Thai coconuts and also wasn't too cloying Mango: this was excellent - possibly one of the best mango sorbets I've tried. It tasted exactly like frozen mango and had that fabulous fragrance that mango has They have a lot of flavors so it was hard to pick but I'm intrigued by the saffron pistachio which sounds like something I'd get next time. read more

This is a very popular gelato spot. There were a lot of people hang in the store when I got here. There were a few seating with modern decorations. I got a small cup with bacio and espresso flavor. The bacio flavor is very tasty. The chocolate flavor is rich and not overly sweet. The espresso has a little bit of bitterness. It was a good combination. Took 2 stars away because the service was not as great. It would be nice if they were smiling and not being short. read more
