    Blueberry apple crisp donut!
    Katherine S.

Food was delicious! I had the Italian sandwich and a seasonal blueberry apple crisp donut. It had blueberry icing with apple crisp topping and apple pie filling.

    Ben M.

My wife wanted to stop in to try some of the seasonal doughnuts. She enjoyed a couple of them, and I got a cinnamon roll. We felt bad for the barista, who was very busy filling in-store and online orders. It took surprisingly long (about 10 minutes) to get my cup of drip coffee. This location fills a big need in this neighborhood, as there aren't many options on the National Mall. They had food, both made-to-order and pre-prepared, available all hours of the day.

Went here for lunch today and I was pleasantly surprised. Literally had the best lemonade I have ever tasted in my life. Oh my stars that lemonade went stoopid, like I'm still thinking about it hours later. I also ordered the pesto chicken sandwich which was also pretty good. The ciabatta kind of made it a little dry but it was good nonetheless

Nice spot to go grab some flavorful donuts. Mixture of $3-$5 ones were pretty tasty. Ended up really liking the cinnamon sugar and coffee cake. Parking is a little tough but walking there is super easy if you are nearby. Outside and inside parking. Touch screen for easy ordering except for the donuts which you can do in person at the counter and see which flavors they have.

They use black cat espresso and im in love. Earl grey raspberry doughnut for January was insane. Excellent shop but mini doughnuts are the way as the sweetness is up there. Service is okayish, could be better.

Really liked this strawberry cold foam matcha! Wasn't too sweet. Service is always great, too :)

The matcha and donut were great! However, the quesadilla was pretty underwhelming. It was very oily and just didn't taste that good. Still, it's a good spot for a pit stop while exploring the city. The servers were sweet, and while the ambiance was nice, it was a bit on the loud side.

I visited here in November to escape the rain and have a snack while killing time before an event. I had the chocolate frosted doughnut while I forget which one my husband had. He also had an espresso. We both enjoyed our donuts and would be willing to go back and try some more of their items. There were plenty to choose from.

My co-workers and I decided to do a little field trip here. We placed our orders ahead of time. I hadn't even heard of them before. I will be back soon! They're located next door to Johns Hopkins and near the Canadian embassy! I got a vanilla latte and a blueberry lemon scone. When I saw the array of donuts, I just had to get one. It was calling my name! The brown sugar bourbon donut was soooo good. My latte was good too. I am already planning my next trip here. The space is nice and comfy. The menu items look really good and they have sip and paint nights. The service was really good. Literally the nicest people here. I was able to sign up for their rewards program so those points will be racking up! A bit out of our way, but it was well worth it!

Speaking of doughnuts...... I had the "vegan doughnut of the month" and it was delish! I always try their vegan offering and it's hit and miss for me (especially with the cream filling - a miss). BUT, maple - yes pleaseeee! This place is a vibe (from smoothies to doughnuts to home fries - potatoes). I stopped going due to their proud support of #47....

    Yogurt Parfait

DC is a busy place and this place was bustling! A kiosk at the entrance was convenient and the line was long. I chose the kiosk and hubs chose to get in line. This didn't end as I expected. I only ordered two yogurt parfaits. After asking we went to the waiting area. He was still in line. Time passed so we waited at the bar. He was ordering. He walked from the counter with parfait in hand. We asked about our order and were told that it was self serve. With no receipt, (we entered our name and number), in hand we went past the line to the cooler for the order. Signage or directions on the kiosk would have helped speed up the process. ‍

This place was amazing!! So far best spot we've been at in DC. Highly recommend this spot for breakfast and lunch. The staff was so nice and fast service.

It was really busy, a long line, and all I wanted was a doughnut. I got the blueberry and buttercream and let me tell you it was worth the wait.

Most recently went as a party of 4 and got the crab beignets, beef arepa, masa gnocci, and parillada for two. Crab beignets were our favorite - perfectly crispy and great flavor. Masa gnocci was a little overcooked this time but still yummy. Beef arepa is a classic dish to get at the royal; two people can easily share one arepa. Parillada was a hearty entree and probably best for 2-3 people. This amount of food altogether was just nice. We probably could have ordered one more thing to be extra full. I don't typically get Latin American food but love all the flavors at this restaurant. Next time will try their breakfast menu!

Syrups made in house of course and you can tell. Just a perfect latte. I usually am an iced latte person but I recommend getting their lattes hot. Hits different.

The ivy wrapping the entire exterior of the building is stunning -- it feels like the cafe grew right out of the earth itself. The garden is lush, intentional, and beautiful, and the grapevine patio pulls you in like you've stumbled onto a secret courtyard in the middle of the city. I rode the metro over an hour from Alexandria for this and the exterior alone told me the commute was worth it. The iced coffee delivered. The vibe inside is warm, neighborhood-cozy, and full of character. This place has a soul that most coffee shops spend years trying to manufacture. Four stars instead of five -- and here's my honest feedback with love. The outdoor seating is gorgeous but the trees overhead drop baby spiders constantly. I watched them land on my table, my drink, and my arm more times than I could count. The birds hopping onto tables scavenging for crumbs added to the chaos. For a patio this beautiful, the experience deserves better. The fix is already in the DNA of this place. Weaving lavender, peppermint, chrysanthemums, citronella grass, marigolds, and rosemary throughout the patio would naturally deter spiders and mosquitoes while making the garden even more breathtaking. The fragrance would become part of the experience. Big Bear Cafe is already special. The ivy, the garden, the coffee, the community energy -- it all works. A few intentional additions to the patio and this place is untouchable. I will absolutely be back.

I visited Bluestone around 4 PM in the afternoon, so it was a bit too late for coffee, but I love that they offer a wide selection of non-coffee drinks. I got their golden latte, which includes turmeric, almond milk, and a few other spices; it feels warm (both literally and figuratively) and is a lovely caffeine-free drink that helps me feel healthy as the weather gets colder. And to counterbalance any potential health benefits I might have gotten from the golden latte, I also got their chocolate chip cookie, which was massive -- almost the size of the plate they served it on. It was a solid cookie, slightly chewy but with a nice crust, although it was a bit lacking in chocolate chips. As someone who works in the industry and is very familiar with coffee and coffee shops, I was genuinely shocked by how rude and unprofessional the staff was. I ordered a house latte with an extra double shot, which made it a quad shot, and I also paid for extra ice and requested that it be served in a large cup. It wasn't a complicated order. When I saw a drink come up, I politely asked, "Is that mine by any chance?" The barista immediately told me to "hush" and said, "I'm not talking to you." I found that incredibly disrespectful and completely unacceptable. When my drink was finally handed to me, I simply asked if the quad shot had been added since I had paid extra for it. Instead of answering my question, the barista ignored me entirely, and another employee had to respond. The employee, Taleisha Young, who was wearing glasses, was especially rude throughout the interaction. No customer should be spoken to that way, especially when they're simply asking about an order they paid extra to customize. Customer service and professionalism should be a priority, and this experience fell far below that standard. Unfortunately, I will not be returning, and I will be sharing my experience on other review platforms as well. I hope management addresses the behavior of its staff so other customers don't have a similar experience.
