The good: The waffle cone was really good. It held its composure and didn't get soggy and was thin and crunchy. I tried the key lime pie flavor as well as a cotton candy flavor inside a waffle bowl. My niece tried peach and strawberry cheesecake. They have tons of flavor options and you can get a flight sampler too if you cannot narrow down what flavor you want. The bad: It took longer than I expected to get the ice cream. For some reason, the flavors were dispersed throughout different areas in their store (some in the backroom, some on the side). The interesting: The small is ginormous and the medium is good for 2-3 people. It's outside the theater and you order outdoors. There's no indoor seating area. The amount of flavors and the quality of ice cream at Handel's is off the hook! I ordered a small peach and I was handed a two and half scoop serving. The summer flavors made it hard to decide (so will definitely need to visit again before the end of the season) so I settled for my fave fruit. The first time I had Handels was at Newport Beach so the only difference is the missing beach views. There are just as many flavors as the Cali locations. I was craving ice cream so I just made the decision to order it from DoorDash and it arrived in pretty good condition. Slightly melted but nothing a little freezer action can't fix. The flavors are very creamy and thick which is what I like. I've had it in person too and the single scoops are huge. You can also sample the flavors before deciding on ones you like. Handel's is such a great addition to the Southlands area. I've been in Palm Springs for my baby moon a few years ago and when I heard they were coming to the area I was so excited! The amount of flavors available and the generous portions is truly a win! Pricing is affordable in my opinion. I love the sampler plate, it's a great sharing option. I used this for my littles ones do share. The service is fast and friendly! In fact it's so fast that I changed my mind two minutes ordering and we were still putting all our orders in and they already made it but kindly remade the order and offered to do so to my preferred flavor. I was okay just keeping my original order but they insisted. Truly nice! Ambiance is causal. Banana flavor was also really good, but I had the same issue as last time - the small waffle cone size is still way too big. They fill the cone, then add 2-3 more scoops on top of it. Why not just fill the cone and leave it there? I want to enjoy the waffle cone, but I guess I'll just have to start getting regular cups, which is annoying. read more

Handel's Ice Cream is located next to the movie theater and has a walk up window, super easy and convenient. Parking however is potentially a problem. You may have to park further away and walk. They have a large variety of flavors to choose from including some not so typical flavors. They also sell Dogsters which is a brand of ice cream cup for dogs. read more

Loved the variety of icecream and different ways you could order it. We did enjoy the flavor and consistency of it. The place is still working out the kinks, so service was quite slow. Also, asked for a waffle cone and was just given icecream in a cup. Seems a bit expensive too for what you get. Each scoop gets significantly smaller after the other. read more

I recently went here with my son and we got two waffle cones. The service was fast, but seemed to sacrifice quality for that speed. Ice cream was falling off of both of our cones and the people before us too. Might as well have gone to Coldstone for better service and because there's no place indoors for the customers at Handel's to order and people have to wait in the cold. I went to Handle's and waited in line, and when I finally got to the counter I asked which flavors were gluten free (since I have celiac). The employee wasn't sure and went to ask the manager. When she came back, I was told the only gluten-free flavor was vanilla. I couldn't believe it--very disappointing. When I got home, I checked Handel's website and saw multiple flavors listed as gluten free. So either the manager gave me completely wrong information or the website is misleading. Either way, it left me frustrated and feeling like they don't take dietary needs seriously. read more
