This was the closest ice cream spot open late, and I'm glad we stopped by. Service inside was good and pretty quick. I got a small Banana Cream, and we also ordered a small waffle cone with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and a Hot Fudge Sundae with Black Cherry ice cream and Oreo. This ice cream was really delicious albeit a little on the soft side (not soft serve and not hard scoop but somewhere in between). There were a ton of flavors to choose from but no samples and they aren't in a case to see what they look like. They do have descriptions tho and I guess that suffices for most but I definitely want to sample a new flavor before going all in on a big scoop, ya know? Anyway, everyone loved their icecream and I loved my sundae. They are very generous with their portions and the sundae could have been shared by 3 people, easy. Stopped by here after eating at The Vig restaurant and this was my first time here. This place is amazing! They even have a kid area so the kids can play and they also have a little water fountain splash pad for them to cool down! They also have fans with misters all around so you can cool down as well! Super nice to have in AZ honesty! Love the ambiance all around super cool! They have so many different shops around as well. Definitely nice to walk around. I got the Mango Sorbet and my mom got the black raspberry Sherbet. They also give you 1 free small kid vanilla cone as well with a purchase if you have a kiddo, super neat! This place was yummy! I was disappointed with the customer service during our visit. My fiancé ordered a banana split, and when it was brought to the counter, I politely asked if we could add sprinkles. The employee paused, looked toward the register, and then silently walked away to add them. I even offered to pay for the sprinkles, but there was very little communication. I also asked for a cone for my son's ice cream and again stated that I was happy to pay for it. It was handed to me without much response just a "uhhh sure" After we went outside, my 2-year-old accidentally dropped his cone. I came back in to purchase another plain cone and felt like I was given an odd look for simply asking. I paid the 30 cents without issue, but the interaction left me feeling uncomfortable. My husband happens to love Handel's so that keeps us coming back. It's not my favorite but only because I'd prefer custard. But the biggest issue I have is their customer service is sooooo bad. The employees are so unapproachable and not friendly. I feel like I'm bothering them and they're sloppy. What has happened at this Handel's location? The employee today at noon was cramming food in her mouth and gulping a drink down as I walked into the store. She held a finger up to indicate she would be helping me in a minute. Where was everyone else? This gal finally took my ice cream order and she started to scoop up ice cream without washing her hands first! She had just shoved her lunch (?) into her mouth. GROSS! Doesn't management train the employees here? That's not all, the ice cream scoops are about half the size they used to serve a year ago. But this place was like "the hangout" for a bunch of kids. The ones behind the counter and the ones out front. I didn't feel like I was at a place of business but more of a high school football game. Aside from that, My mom had looked at the menu before to know what she wanted. Once we got there they were out so she needed a second to decide and it felt very rushed. When my mom asked if they had the flavor she saw on the website she was told "the website has over 150 flavors, obviously we can't carry them all".. which was a little rude. Love the ice cream & portion size. But, isn't there always one. Silly Handel's rule/law, on a small cup they give 2 1/2 small scoops but they won't let you have two flavors. This day, we did a vanilla with sprinkles. Whether you get three scoops or one, it's the same price. I do wish they offered single scoops. It limits tasing different flavors. I really love this ice cream place, even if the line is long and waiting outside in the heat. I like to order online to skip the line and just pick up quick and go. I came in the Handel's to pick up my online order and it was not ready. I was told from the staff the system was down and cannot print out the orders. I had to show the staff the order online but it didn't tell me what flavor I picked. I had to wait for her to prepare my order very patiently so my kid, dog, and my mom came to visit me from east coast to try out the best ice cream from Surprise in the car. But still, if your system is down and the customer said they placed an order that the staff don't know, they will tell their friends to go in and say they placed their order and say the same thing to me, chances are the staff will be giving away free ice cream. read more

Handel's is our go-to for ice cream. I love their banana split and my husband likes to get their shakes. They have a non-dairy chocolate ice cream that he gets made into a shake. They have almond milk to make the shake. It's the only place we have found where he can get ice cream/shake that isn't fruit flavored. Their prices are reasonable for what you get - all the portions are huge and the ice cream is freshly made. read more
