Came here after dinner with my wife for some dessert. Lots of unique flavors to try. The line moved quickly and the staff were friendly and were kind to offer us multiple samples. All the flavors were delicious, hard to choose just one. We each got a small in a dish with a sugar cone on top. The misters kept us cool and we wish Hansel's was closer to our place, but maybe that's a blessing in disguise. Lots of parking available. read more

It has 3 ordering windows and lots of outdoor seating around on the southside of the building with misters. I got to try Handel's for the first time today, and as someone that considers themselves an ice cream snob, Handel's did not disappoint! I ordered a small Buckeye in a cup and found the size decent for a small without being too overwhelming. Being from the east coast, good ice cream has been a hard find, and this was by far the best I have found in the Arizona area! I do think it would be nice if they listed flavor descriptions under their flavors, since not all the names are intuitive. Luckily I came with a friend who works here and she could tell us what every flavor had. I loved the outdoor seating they have too! It is just facing the parking lot, but if you are with good company and have a nice day outside, it is very pleasant! My husband stopped off here with a friend of his and came home raving about how delicious their ice cream was. So of course, I had to try it! So my friend and I got in the car and set out for our 39 minute drive. There is no indoor seating but plenty of spaces to sit outside. I have been wanting to come and try this ice cream for a while now I'm so glad I stopped and on this hot sundae, it wasn't too busy. The staff was extremely friendly and provided me with a lot of information on the different flavors available. I opted for a dish of strawberry and vanilla and also a dish of the birthday cake and pistachio. The ice cream is so smooth and creamy and full of flavor. My favorite was the birthday cake. They are open eleven a.m. to ten p.m. daily. The original restaurant was created in Youngstown Ohio in 1945 by Alice Hendle.She used her own personal recipes and food from local trees. It operated out of that one location for forty years. Brand was purchased and using the same old recipes and expanding into a more contemporary venue has a hundred and fifty locations across fifteen states. They still make every batch by hand. They have as many as 29 flavors of ice cream, they also have vegan and sorbet about 6 flavors and sherbet 6 flavors and 4 ice flavors, They have several types of cones and Sundays. They also make Hurricanes with Vanilla Ice cream and add-on treats. And they make shakes and they have some homemade, on a stick packages. Everyone has been chatting about how delicious this ice cream was, so I had to venture in and try it! As we walked up we noticed outside seating with plenty of people and then realized they are a "window order only" establishment, which was great. We walked up and were super impressed by all of the choices! They offer not only scoops of ice cream, but floats, sandwiches, banana splits, hurricanes, a sampler, vegan and a dog treat! The coconut carmel was so yummy for coconut flavors who are afraid of carmel stealing the show (or is that just me?) I felt like the flavor was a little overpowering on some, which I never thought I'd say for ice cream. We had heard rumors about how good the ice cream is up on Oracle at Handel's Homemade. Rumor confirmed! This place knocks it out of the park when it comes to summer's sweetest grace. (*I guess we eat ice cream year round, but nearly every red-blooded American can agree that, indeed, there is something special about the frozen treat and careless summer nights. The kind of warm nights where you find yourself sit'n on the hood of Dodge in the soft summer rain). The number of delicious offerings here is somewhere near 50, and it rotates seasonally to a total of 100 varieties (I looked it up). All 5 flavors that our crew tried were exceptionally tasty. My wife and I split the sampler which offers four scoops of heaven that are only slightly smaller than what you get in a single. If you are frugal like me, this is the choice you want-- as you and a loved-one will have more than enough to enjoy--all for just over $7. Additionally, if you, like me, feel something spiritual when sharing food (family style) with loved ones, this is the option to go for. As a kid, my mom would typically buy one treat--and my sisters and I would share it. If I could time-travel back, I would tell my siblings and myself to, "Stop acting like hyenas at a kill and just chill." I would share wisdom by saying, "The Universe provides all that you need. Just enjoy each other's company and savor the moment--as it is fleeting and although you don't realize it now, sharing treats with your closest relatives will be something you will reflect on fondly and cherish later in life." Anyways, My 2 choices for the canvas of ice cream that we were creating would end up being Monkey Business and Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie. The balance of ice cream to the nougats of, "yummery" mixed in was pretty much "spot on" I predicted that my wife would choose plain ol' Chocolate.. and Butter Pecan. She has chosen that combo, when we go out for ice cream, since when we first dated. There is something endearing about this, & once again, she chose that particular combo. My daughter went for a chocolate-based dish with Oreo's and Cookie dough. It was well-received. The ambiance here is also a treat. A long line greeted us as we pulled in. It would have annoyed me in my youth, but now, the chance to join in with the jovial-energy that flows outside the shop is almost as good as the desserts we would soon enjoy. I really enjoy observing folks going-about their lives & many of the tropes of humanity were spotted there in line. The line does move quickly. We waited for no more than 6 or 7 minutes. The line looked as if a Hollywood casting agency had hand-picked many of the characters there. Waiting, just a little in front of us, was an adorable young couple, still a little nervous about how they acted with each other. They were glowing with the excitement and hopefulness of a young relationship. There were numerous families with kids ranging in age from toddler to teen aged--all sharing a spirit of camaraderie and anticipation. One two-year-old fussed and wailed. She disengaged her legs, then, was swept-up lovingly in her dad's arms. He gently took her aside and worked some sort of Jedi mind trick-- she was giggling moments later. A young lady in a sash that proclaimed that she was now 18 years old was here with her entourage'. A nice-looking group of people, who were obviously very much into fitness, left happily with chocolate covered bananas. Amongst the numerous patrons awaiting treats on this balmy night was an older couple. They shared an easy comfort for each other that I can only guess forms after decades of working together to face the trials and tribulations that life tosses out to each of us. Later, I noticed them feeding each other small nibbles of their dessert-- like newlyweds sharing first bites of wedding cake. We finally made our way to the window to order our treats. I "mentally fumbled" and froze--forgetting what I had carefully planned as my contribution to our four-part selection. As if caught in headlights, I could not remember what I had painstakingly mapped out. My mind had gone blank. Frantically, I tried to remember what I had wanted. I was blowing it. Blowing it! The staffer was super friendly and patently waited for my brain to find a gear. He suggested a football... and with a unconscious will, my voice squeaked out, "Football". ( JK!) I mentally punted in the last second and read the first two choices that my eyes could make out. Later, I would remember Cookie dough and Birthday cake. But it was fine. The team inside was working feverishly to keep up with the demands of the treat-seekers. One could feel their spirit of camaraderie. A camaraderie that you might find in men during combat, or on a pro ball-cIub in the heat of a pennant drive. My time spent at Handel's was a heart-warming flavor symphony. I really- enjoyed the outing, and hope others can sneak out one summer night-- as we did. read more

I feel so lucky to have a Handel's here in Tucson! I have been several times to this location and the owners are doing a fabulous job. Great customer service! The choices are over the top. There is something for everyone here. You can try samples if you can't decide. You can also get a 4 pack of 4 small scoops so you can have some variety. They do pints to go. They also have milkshakes! I love the chocolate chunk, chocolate mint, and right now there is a seasonal cherry that is amazing. The horchata is a fun one I get sometimes. I also am a huge fan of the coconut. It is light and refreshing. If I had to pick one that I consider the best out of these ones I just mentioned, I would have to say the mint chocolate chip knocks it out of the park! The price is really reasonable considering how huge the servings are and while it's often busy, the staff are incredibly efficient and move through the lines very quickly. There are so many different flavors to choose from and their menus not only list the flavors but provide images to give you an idea of what you'll be ordering. I personally got a medium dish of birthday cake and it was delicious! It's a walk-up window but there are a decent amount of picnic-style tables to enjoy your ice cream at.
