Okay..so it's a Hand Made Gelato Shop AND a hot dog shop. Now that that has been cleared up, let's talk about the review. I needed sugar. Plain and simple. They had sugar so I slid in and ordered a small chocolate gelato. Upon realizing that they had real food as well, I ordered a hot dog with toppings from the other menu. My bill was $13.87 which I thought was pretty high for what turned out to be glorified ice cream and a hot dog. I'm well aware it's downtown Columbia but please be aware this is not an inexpensive location. My gelato was lovely but I had finished it before they had made my hot dog. I was the only person in line so I can't imagine how long the wait would have been if they were busy. It was creamy and delicious and really hit the spot. My hot dog was good and I ordered toppings that I like so it was yummy. I couldn't tell if anything was hand made as it all tasted like something from US Foods but you can never tell. They did have a nice selection of toppings by the door you could take to go. I don't think I'll be back but it wasn't because I had a bad experience. I just couldn't justify the value of my meal. Listen, for as long as we've been living in Columbia it's a shame we haven't been here more often. We stopped in this past sunday enjoying the weather and decided to try the peach preserves gelato and the classic ice cream. The peach preserves had an interesting texture (but in a good way). Never thought i'd want preserves/jam in my gelato, but strangely it worked. What's there to say about the vanilla... it's just damn good. it's the vanilla you think and can taste when you dream about a ice cream sundae. I tried a little sample and it was pretty good but I really wanted to try the pistachio. I recently went to Italy and was wondering if it would be as good as Italian gelato. I highly recommend you give Scoopy Doo a try. We went there the first time last night. I had the Peanutbutter Sorbe and my date had the Pistachio gelato. They were both excellent. The service was great. The guy there was super friendly. I'd be surprised if I found out he wasn't the owner. We chatted with him for a while. He seemed highly invested in the success of the business and was a joy to be around. Their is vinyl (records) in the back and be sure to check out the art collection. Local, delicious and individual! The man who is generally working (potentially an owner?) is always so sweet and cool with my kid, sometimes surprising him with a balloon animal! Tonight, we got two small gelatos, and the person working was a little pointed about how they had to get back to the gelato that was being made once it buzzed. We understood, ordered quickly, then the person gave us one gelato for free since they were in a rush. I really, really appreciated that. I will absolutely be coming here over any other ice cream place. If you have kids, the outside environment can sometimes be uncomfortable because the patrons from Drip smoke outside and use adult language and even once criticized me for having my son out "late" on a Friday (7:30pm!!!), but it is nice how the seating area is a little walled off to give you some space. Even though I've only been in Columbia since January, new places are opening all the time. Fortunately, the new places that keep opening are also very good! Scoopy Doo is no exception. I heard about this place from a fellow Yelper this weekend during a Yelp event. My girlfriend really wanted to try it after brunch, so we did. Pretty awesome! You can tell they're still getting things together, as there isn't a ton of indoor seating but this place is really, really good. She had chocolate and pistachio gelato, and I decided on the blueberry sorbetto. Both were very tasty and as good news for those who might be wondering, gelatos are all gluten free and sorbettos are all vegan. Hopefully this place is a great start in a hopeful trend to "clean up" Five Points a bit and make it a fun place for young adults and others to hang out instead of having a reputation as the "college bar strip." This place is so super cute and the gelato is legit! Scoopy Doo is nestled in right next to Drip in 5 points. It has a fab covered outdoor seating area (that big round table with the stools is totes adorbs) and a few seats inside the front door. They also have a larger seating area that is shared with Drip behind the counter area. There is a cool little window back there where you can kinda peak in the kitchen area (I'm nosey like that). Also in this area they have local art work and records that are available for purchase. But back to the gelato! Boyfriend got the vanilla and I got the espresso. Both were delicious. The flavors were strong but not over powering. I especially liked that mine was actually made using espresso from Drip. I thought the prices were reasonable. If you went to a ice cream or yogurt place you'd pay the same but I like the gelato better. Scoopy Doo is a cool place for some cool treats. I can't wait to take all my cool friends there. read more

Stumbled across this little gem after wanting to see who was performing at the 5 points square. Craving something sweet, this place just screamed welcome and please come in. Situated on a street with bars, boutiques, and a wonderfully decorated island in between this place fit right in. The prices right off the bat looked super fair and when i was welcomed with a fresh smile and awesome bearded man I couldn't have been happier. Try as many samples as your heart desires. this place is fresh and made only in Columbia, SC and offers a good 12 different flavors. I had to try the bourbon flavored gelato which you must get ID'd for and believe me, you need to because this is one of the only places i've seen boubon gelato and they do it right. Next try the pistachio. YUM. is all i can say and wait for it...mix them together in a handmade cone. DOUBLE YUM. definitely give the sorbets a try too. there are super unique flavors and combinations and if you are a chocolate fan...sorry i'm going back to gelato now...you need to try the chocolate because it is dark chocolate decadence! Such an inviting new place! I love the green color scheme and cute seating area they have out front. Stopped by yesterday for free cone day and after sampling the cap'n crunch (brilliant by the way), I decided on pistachio and loved it. They weren't ordinary cones either...I think they were infused with cinnamon which I really enjoyed and ***spoiler alert*** there were little marshmallows once you got to the bottom, so unexpected but delicious! The staff were entertaining and friendly, letting you sample as much as you wanted. They also have a freezer where you can buy pints of various other flavors. The name alone sold me. Its a nice little space, very clean and colorful. Walls covered in children's artwork. Its attached to the coffee shop next door and there was a small performance space in the back. This is no Baskin Robbins. There are like 6-8 flavors. I decided on the small salted caramel gelato. Good. Life. Choice. It looks small, but the flavor is so good and its so thick and creamy that you don't need much more than that. Delish! Dear God - thank you for Scoopy Doo's. It's wonderful! Very nice people run it and the gelato is some of the best I have ever had. You made sure to put it in Five Points which is perfect because who doesn't want to walk around and shop and then buy gelato? It's such a nice location with a huge chalkboard to write on and artwork from kids at local elementary schools and a coffee house next door and a place to chill-ax at the back to listen to great music. And, oh look, here's some Sweet Chili Chocolate just for me! What wonderful flavors they have - so unique! I don't want to spoil any surprises. I've visited a few times before and I always get the pistachio witch is to die for. My boyfriend was telling me how much he loved pistachio gelato, so I decided to take him here. We decided to get a pint because it was a better deal. Little did I know, THEY KEEP MORE FLAVORS IN THE FREEZER. I squealed a little when I saw a CapnCrunch flavor. The owner, who is fantastic, told us he was just messing around with flavors and it ended up being super popular! He opened up the pint for us and let us taste it. I love love gelato and was excited when I learned that columbia got a new spot that served it. So I dragged the hubby and off we went. This cool spot is located in five points. Street metered parking. The place is small but decorated well. They have seating area outside and inside. Small assortment of flavors but they pack a punch. They also make smoothies. Apparently they change flavors : today they had vanilla, chocolate, maple and bourbon, pistachio, cracker jack, they also had pineapple sorbet and more. We got the cracker jack flavor and pineapple sorbet. The sorbet was delightful and light but made you enjoy a beautiful summer day. The cracker jack flavor was rich and actually had pieces of cracker jack in it. The servings were large too. Fairly priced. This place is kid friendly, they had an entire chalkboard wall with chalk pieces for marking. I loved this place. It was connected to a store that sold records. read more

We have had: Banana Banana-Peanut Butter Bourbon Brown Sugar Captain Crunch Chocolate Eggnog Plum And many more (we just cannot remember!) They were all very good! Banana- Fresh banana, not the fake laffy taffy flavor. Banana-Peanut Butter- Fresh Banana with a nutty tang Chocolate- Rich, creamy Captain Crunch- Identical to actual cereal. Cones- Very good! They have a slight spice to them (not like habaneros, like ginger snap cookies) They add marshmallows to the bottom to prevent gelato from coming out the side.
