I am in love with the blonde highlights Vanessa has been doing in my hair. My first visit to her I said I need to be blonde again. No fussing around, no skimping on the blonde, it's phenomenal. I have been getting so many compliments on the color. Vanessa is a not only very professional but fun to chat with. All the ladies here act like family and you feel welcomed once you step inside this old Victorian home converted into a hair & nail salon. The owner has two (that I've seen) adorable tiny pups you'll see once in awhile. Lots of ladies come in to get their mani pedi, lots of regulars. It's hard to find a good nail salon. Even they're cheap but you worry about the hygiene in the place or you go to a spa for an experience and pay the price. Hands Down is a nice in-between. The place is cute-nestled in a quaint, historic building. The staff were friendly and nice. The woman who did my nails (Jamie?) was very pleasant and easy to talk with. My problem-I got a shellac/gel manicure. Manicures don't last on me which is why I never get them done. Many of my friends rave about the gel manicures saying they often last 3 weeks. I got the gel manicure done on a Thursday and by Sunday I had what looked like air bubbles on some nails and others were chipped. Needless to say, I was very upset. $30 for something to last 2 days is ridiculous. My actual experience at the nail salon was great but my experience since then has not been. This place is one of a kind!! Rebecca always does a great job on my daughters nails . My daughter says Rebecca does the best waxings. I don't know how Rebecca does it but her waxings don't hurt. Best of all she makes my daughter feel special. All of the women there make my daughter feel like family. Everyone jokes around but are professional too. The place is located in a historic house. The environment is very calming and relaxing. It doesn't have a strong chemical smell like most places we've been too. I would say that this is the only salon that caters to those on the autistic spectrum without even realizing it. There is no sensory overload here!!! It is very affordable too!!! This isn't my usual nailcare place but I couldn't get in my regular place so I decided to stop in here and see if they had a tech available on short notice. What a pleasant surprise! Usually some of the smaller nail places look the same-dull and boring. Not this place - it is decorated beautifully - very warm and inviting. It's on the quaint Main Street in Marlton which is a historic street so there is much charm to their building. They were very busy when I got there but were able to squeeze me in, and I was very satisfied with my manicure and pedicure. Purchased a Groupon for a dip powder manicure. Everyone was super friendly! However, I feel that they gave me a junior manicurist (still in school) since I had a Groupon. The dip powder manicure looked great when I left. However, it was so thin that within a week a few of my nails cracked. It lasted me just under 2 weeks and that was pushing it when normally a dip powder manicure usually lasts me 3 to 4 weeks. read more

I have been going to get my hair cut by vanessa for a few years now. she always does a great job! she takes her time to know what her clients really want. i get so many compliments on my hair and have recommended so many of my friends to come here. also, the price point is relatively low for such a nice establishment, and she does just as good a job or even better than the more spendy salons in marlton and cherry hill. i wouldnt go to anyone else to get my hair cut! the vibe of this salon is also great. it is small and all the ladies there chat and are very sweet and kind. i have gotten mani/pedis here a few times as well with various manicurists who have all done a great job! read more

Love this cozy nail and hair salon. Trust me, I have been to them all in South Jersey and they get it! I go to Rebecca (the owner) for my nails and Vanessa for my hair. They are both great and I would highly recommend each of them. I was referred by a good friend and now I'm referring my friends. I walked-in and despite the salon being quite busy, my wait was only 10 minutes. They do manicure, pedicure and hair (which I did not try). The ambiance if this place is great with great downtown location and stylish, yet cozy decor; and the personnel is awesome. In addition, price was very reasonable, if compared to other places I tried in the area. Nice touch, hot towels for hands and feet and no rush massages. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that they do have what seems to be an UV Sterilizer, but they walk around carrying a glass containing blue disinfectant (I suppose), where they keep ready to use cutters. If they use more than one sanitizing method, great, nothing wrong with that. However, seeing all those cuticle cutters laying in blue liquid glasses, made me the slightest bit uncomfortable. Although it further add to the cozy ambiance, I kept thinking:- What if they forget them out, and get confused! and swap them? I though have no reason to think that they do. Despite this minor point, I'll definitely be back, and I'll surely bring my girlfriends with me! read more

I got a more 'edgy' haircut about 6 weeks ago (I have thick, Italian, wavy hair and I got more or less a blunt cut a few inches below my collarbone) and while it was exactly what I asked my previous stylist to give me, I decided yesterday morning I hated it. It made my head look like a triangle and I was done with it. I looked up salons that would be open in the evening and were near-ish my house, and I found Hands Down. When I went in, I was greeted warmly and introduced to the whole team. The ambiance is super cute and homey, and conversation flowed easily. Vanessa had a comprehensive consultation with me, and she told me things about my hair I never knew. (For example, I always thought razor cutting my hair made it fray, but if you do it correctly it can texturize my hair with no damage!) Like every other human I've been going to get my hair cut 3-6 times a year my entire life (And I read tons of beauty magazines, so I'm up on most hair lingo already), and Vanessa was the first person in years to teach me something about what's growing out of my head. She gave me an excellent, low-maintenance layered haircut that was perfect for me because she deals with my kind of hair all the time. I am planning on growing my hair out a bit more, and after this cut my hair actually looks longer than when I went in! The blowout was super nice, and my hair is amazingly soft. I love that she only used one product to get it this way too, so my hair isn't weighed down or crunchy or sticky. This is my new favorite salon, and I will definitely be going back! read more

Tired of going to local cheaper spots and getting a cheap mani and pedi I decided to go here (never having anyone I've known go here) I got an appointment with Lauren on a Saturday. I walked into a warm environment and was taken on time. Lauren worked on my feet with numerous tools, by the end of the my feet looked AMAZING and felt great (not like other places that just scrub and go). Sane treatment for my hands. $53 for both and I was happy to fork it over. Worth every penny I will never go anywhere else in Marlton. Def a lasting job as well, paint looks like it won't chip for weeks. read more
