Short and simple. The building itself screams men's haircut so that was an instant relief. The community there is one of brotherhood and the haircuts are exactly what you ask for! On top of all of that they have movies playing on the TV to keep you entertained while you get a fresh cut. It's also cash only, but they have an ATM for card carriers. Very nice! read more

Matt is the absolute best. He's one of the only people who has gotten my haircut right on the first time I started to go to him. Not only does he cut hair better than most he also is so down to earth. I literally travel from Yuba City in Nor Cal to get cut by him and will continue to do so. It's tough to find a solid barber shop. What you want is someone cool who knows how to cut your hair as you like it working at a shop that is cozy, all at a reasonable cost. The sweet spot is when you have a friend who cuts hair who lets you come over and get a cut and that is what Handsome Devil's feels like. It's essentially Matt's own business so I would text him for an appointment (once people come here they keep coming back so unfortunately I've only seen one walk-in get accepted), walk in on time or even a little late, grab a cold beer from the fridge (if you don't drink or are too young to, Matt also stocks up on water and soda) and then get a great haircut that comes with a wash. I've never been rushed and I've never seen anyone else rushed and Matt treats you like you're an old friend. Honestly, the only complaint I have is that parking might get annoying, but I've always been able to find spots on Detroit St between Sunset and Hawthorn if I was unable to find parking. Not even a big deal. Cash only, but there is an ATM in case you forget. If I was still living in Los Angeles I'd still hit up Matt for my haircut. read more

My first experience at Handsome Devil's Barber Shop was really great. I'm always hesitant to try a new barber, let alone a new shop but the reviews here were excellent so I gave it a shot. Eric was my barber and the guy is a master with clippers and sheers. He had me looking super fresh and I was really happy. I got a lot of compliments on my cut so thanks to Eric for that one. They have a very positive and upbeat atmosphere going on with good music, TV, and just playful banter between the barbers and clients going on. Everyone there is really funny and no one takes themselves too seriously which makes it easy to relax. Finally the price was my final thumbs up to the place as I got a haircut and beard trim for 30 bucks! A lot of places that charge that price do a subpar job but not here. I will definitely be back. When I first moved to LA about 8 months ago, I looked around on Yelp trying to find a really good hairdresser/barber. I found Matt and his Handsome Devil's Barber Shop that was pretty closed to where I live and that had very good reviews. And damn I'm happy I found Matt! Not only is he an extremely good hairdresser, he's also very humble, always apologizing if he's a couple of minutes late and always offer you a cold beer or some other beverage. I have a thinner Scandinavian hair which sometimes can be a little bit more difficult to get that nice fade on. I'm an old hairdresser myself so I know what I'm talking about and during all my years getting cut by others, have I never received such a great fade as the one Matt does. I've had really bad luck in LA with barbers. There was a few shops that I went to and the vibe was kinda off and the barbers weren't consistent! The first time I went to Handsome Devil I had a new barber who didn't do too well BUT nooooow I only go to Matt and it's always perfect. He's honest, chill and easy to talk to. The atmosphere I also a vibe and in a convenient location! His prices are much cheaper than my previous barber who was $65. Handsome Devil is half the price for the same quality. Superb. Just excellent! I can't say enough. From the moment I called him for the first time to see if he had any openings, I knew he was cool. I am no expert in reviews, but Matt and his shop deserves one. I'm originally from the Bay Area and I have my guys I go to up there. My barbers know my hair and I can get a bit particular about it. I always get a bit apprehensive about going to a new barber/stylist. Of course, I used yelp to try and get a feel of some barbers in the area since I've moved here for work. Handsome Devil's Barber Shop had stellar reviews, so I noted that in my mind. Literally within an hour, I run into one of my best friends, and she talks to me about how theres a bomb ass barber up the street that her boyfriend goes to. Of course, she's talkin about Matt over at this shop. I walk in and he made me feel at ease right away. I showed him a pic of the hairstyle I want and he knew exactly what I wanted and pulled it off. I couldn't have been happier. This guy can fade and line you up like the best of em. The cut comes with a rinse afterward as well. No worries on having loose hair all over your face/neck, etc. Then asks if you want it styled. Just excellent customer service. You get more than what you pay for. Since I've gone to him the first time, I've only used him while down here. I will miss coming here when I move back up to the Bay. Matt's kept it real with me every time and I appreciate him for his work and just being him. I wish nothing but the best to him and I hope to see him again when I get back into town. Absolutely horrendous customer service. I'd give ZERO stars if I could. The owner Matt is one of the most unprofessional and rudest I've ever had the displeasure of speaking to over the telephone. He actually called me to cancel an arranged time and then, when I tried to understand why or when we could reschedule, he hung up on me (mid-sentence mind you!). I accidentally tried to cut my own hair (stupid me), and this was the first place I thought of to get a cut. When I walked in I was welcomed with open laughs and a complimentary brew (or water). Matt is the owner, and he's smooth with a neat shop and the best music. J.D. is the other barber who cut and fixed my hair, and he did a fantastic job. I am not from LA and needed a barber desperately to give me a fresh clean cut for my wedding this Sunday and I read all he good reviews for Matt and instantly drove over to get a cut. Unfortunately, Matt told me he was all booked for the day and I would have to see another barber. I then proceeded to tell him I needed a haircut for my wedding and he then told me he would squeeze me in between appointments and take care of me. I am very particular with my barbers but Matt exceeded my expectations. He provides a high quality haircut with above and beyond great service. He also offers a cold beer or water while you wait.
