Brian presented himself, when asked by my Agent, as someone experienced in plumbing work. He replaced the plumbing connections on top of the water heater; however, the unit continued to leak afterward. He was on-site for over eight hours that day. More than four of those hours were spent at Home Depot, and the remaining time was used working on the water heater plumbing. I later hired a licensed plumber from a professional plumbing company, who advised that the job should have taken approximately two hours, that incorrect parts had been used, and that the work had been performed improperly and unprofessionally. During one of his Home Depot trips, he was sent to purchase gutters for the house but instead returned with a large box of miscellaneous items (at least 20 insignificant items) that had not been approved or discussed. These items totaled over $400!!! There is no justification for treating someone else's money that way, with no regard for their approval or expectations. To make it better, he stated that he had used a friend's military discount card as if that was a good thing. The gutters were never purchased and when I returned the items to Home Depot, I only received a reduced refund, resulting in an additional financial loss. I asked him if the discount was charged back to his card and he said "no"??? I also observed him spend approximately four hours making a minor repair and painting the front door, which further raised concerns about the efficiency and quality of the work being performed. Overall, a significant amount of time was wasted, the quality of work was below standard, and I incurred unnecessary big expense as a result. The experience was extremely disappointing and resulted in both financial loss and delays in preparing the home for sale. He also left several tools at my home and said he would return after Memorial Day to collect them? Seriously? As a single woman in my 60s, I found this situation inappropriate and unsettling for numerous reasons.

I have been meaning to write this review for several weeks now, but it has been difficult to try to…read morerelive the trauma brought upon by my previous contractor.  In short, my previous contractor screwed us.  He did not get the permits or the inspections that he said he did.  He basically took our money, abandoned our project, and escaped to Mexico.  In short, we had a house that was in terrible condition and deemed unlivable by San Francisco.  My husband and I were screwed financial and emotionally.  It was an extremely hard time and the pain still lingers but it is finally fading away, thanks to Steve.   Steve and Bartkus Remodel stepped into a very challenging situation, one that very few contractors wanted to touch.  We had a house that was poorly "remodeled", needed permits, had to be remedied, and all while my husband and I were financially strapped.  Steve went into immediate action and took the charge in navigating San Francisco's Building Department's requirements in our unique situation.  San Francisco has very strict building codes.  I've learned from this process; you need someone who VERY knowledgeable and determined to figure out proper solutions.   Steve and his crew expertly worked on many of items in our home.  He worked closely with our structural engineer to bring our housing structure up to code (we went from a closed to open concept and also wanted to legalized our ground floor level, so this was major).  The structural work included adding and fixing various structural posts, adding structural plywood, and performing concrete testing.  Fireproofing was also added, along with sheetrock and an extensive paint job.  Him and his crew remodeled our bathrooms which also includes tiling and creating necessary soffits.  In the interest of wanting to keep this review relatively short, these are just a few things Steve helped us with.   I was most impressed with Steve's communication.  He was extremely easy to reach, always getting back to us within a day and had no problems taking phones calls on the weekends.  Any issues we had he always corrected immediately.  Not everything goes perfectly, but Steve was receptive to all feedback and would try his best to make sure it is perfection.    Although Steve came as a recommendation to us, Steve treated my family like his family.  He knew of our dire financial situation, but was only concerned with getting us into our home.  He happily worked with us regarding compensation.  I and my husband will be forever grateful to Steve and Bartkus Remodel.  They turned my nightmare into my pride and joy.   If you would like more information about Steve and Bartkus remodel, I am happy to answer any further questions.  Please feel free to send me a message.

While researching companies to update our kitchen we called North County Kitchens. We spoke with…read morethe owner who was polite enough on the phone and scheduled a time for him to come to our house to discuss what we wanted and for him to take measurements. The appointment was at 1:30 and I finally called him at 2:20 as he didn't show up or call! He had some lame excuse for not receiving the alert he made on his phone. He asked if he could come right over and we figured we would give him a chance. He is very talkative, mostly telling us what he wanted to do instead of listening to what we wanted. He was adamant about refacing our cabinets even after we clearly said we did NOT want that option. He claims to be a cabinet maker so he finally took the measurements and discussed some basic details. As he was leaving he apologized again for being late and even stated he would "make up for it with his quote"...that was on 3/13 and we have never heard from him. We are grateful we found out his work ethic before we hired him, and thankfully have hired another company that has been an absolute pleasure to work with. Do your homework and save yourself the trouble by just scrolling past his website- there are quality companies out there.

After years of…read moreprocrastination, we were awed by two kitchen remodels Andrew completed with high personal recommendations, we knew we found the right guy. My husband and I are very particular and detail oriented and Andrew listened to our wants and offered ideas resulting in a kitchen that surpassed our expectations. His wood working skills are spectacular. We opted not to change the footprint of our kitchen but removed a cooktop, double oven and built in desk, adding a range, built in microwave and additional cabinetry. The cabinet additions are a perfect, seamless blend. I love our doors and drawers, REAL WOOD not veneer! Andrew used samples of our existing flooring, new backsplash and countertop to formulate a stain and glazing that's just exquisite. The addition of the soft close and foot pedal for the trash is icing on the cake. To tie the kitchen and family room together, he also built a mantel and hearth surround for our fireplace with the same stain and details as our cabinetry... just exquisite! We (including our Great Pyrenees) loved having Andrew working in our home. He's honest, knowledgeable, has a great sense of humor and took the stress out of our remodel. The Eikos studio, with Keri and Linda, is great at helping you figure out what materials fit the design you have in mind. It's a reasonable extra fee at the beginning and well worth it as it ensures the project is planned down to the finest detail. When permits are involved the company ensures they are applied for and the work has no problem passing the inspections. I appreciate that they stick to their word and start work at the agreed time as well as following through to the end. Even after the walk through and final payment was collected, there was a minor plumbing issue that Chris and staff promptly came out to fix. They really stand by their work, which I find trustworthy. The entire crew are very pleasant to have around and the office staff including Kelley are stellar! I will hire them in the future to renovate our largest bathroom, as so far, we're happy :-)
