I even ordered with extra chicken for $1. The sauce was very flavorful and spicy. The chicken was plentiful and the flavor quite decadent. The rice was warm and not too sticky. I was excited to conclude my meal with the egg roll, but it was nowhere to be found. Quite disappointing! Oh well. Overall, decent food at a fair price. read more

This was a DoorDash delivery. Food arrived hot but that was lack luster. The garlic chicken was bland although full of veggies. Sadly, I dont mean lack of spice but flavor in general. The egg drop soup was just past thick and had reached gelatinous. The eggroll was passable. The fried rice was brown but had no flavor, onions, or anything. They provide affordable, accurate and satisfying meals. I particularly like their tofu, orange chicken, and lo mein dishes. It is easy to call and place an order and it's ready and accurate upon arrival. They are continuing to run during COVID-19. They do block off the dining area, recommend waiting outside until your order is ready, and wear masks. I've tried 6-7 Chinese places that are available on UberEats since the beginning of the pandemic, and this is by far the best (ordered for the first time tonight). I got spareribs, crab Rangoon, egg drop soup and chicken fried rice. Everything was simple and fresh. Slightly under-salted which works for me because I dump chili oil on everything. Synopsis: Has everything you need from a Chinese spot for prices that are comparable with other Chinese restaurants. Handy Kitchen is one of my frequent spots for Chinese food. I typically get the General Tso's Chicken from the dinner menu. For $12.95 you get a container of nearly all chicken with some broccoli mixed in and a box of rice on the side. The fact that the whole container is nothing, but chicken alone makes it worth it. Couple that with the price and it would be worth checking out if you have not yet been. The quality of the food is superb as well. Although I don't explore the menu, I can speak for the quality of the General Tso's as it is by far my favorite meal to get at a Chinese restaurant. My friend ended up getting Vegetarian Lo Mein and was thrilled with the quality of it. I definitely cannot recommend this place enough! 5 Tasty Stars out of 5! read more

I've had takeout from Handy Kitchen 3 times. I was excited to find a great Chinese takeout place. The first two times were a great experience with yummy food and good portions. The last visit, however, I got food poisoning from the General Tso's chicken. I feel bad even writing this review but it happened right after eating it. Started feeling queasy and well, I don't want to spell out the rest on this review. You get it. We've lost power in the area a few times this month. Perhaps that was the culprit. For a small Chinese restaurant with similes seating, you'd think they'd have a pretty good call-ahead take-out business. Not so! I called at 9:15 on a weeknight. They said 15 minutes. I arrived 15 minutes later, no food. I waited, along with another couple. No acknowledgement. Finally they asked of I'd ordered Hunan chicken. I said yes. Five minutes later they started making it--after I'd paid. Also, I'm pretty sure everyone in the kitchen was speaking Spanish and not Chinese. However, my disappointment turned to delight when I got home and the food was delicious. It's typical Chinese-American fare, but executed really well. There were more fresh vegetables in my dish than I've seen in any other area Chinese restaurant! The chicken was perfectly tender. And, it was enough for 3 servings! Moved to the neighborhood a few years ago and just now trying Handy Kitchen based on feedBack from the staff at Lotus Nail Spa. When I try a new Chinese restaurant I have a basic foods I try: egg rolls, fried rice and crab Rangoon. If they do these well then the rest of the food should be good. This is your standard Chinese American fare you find in NC. The pork egg roll was large and not greasy, but overall not a lot of flavor. The house fried rice was good, with plenty of meat. It was not mushy or greasy. The crab Rangoon was great. I prefer savory over sweet and this was very savory with actual pieces of meat and scallions. Not sure if it was real crab or imitation, but good none the less. Very crispy and not greasy. For those who like sweet crab Rangoon it does come with a side of sweet dipping sauce. I also decided to try the moo shu beef as I love moo shu. It was a very large serving, the veggies were tender crisp. My only complaint is it was light on beef and too salty. I would go here again and try other things on the menu. read more

If you're looking for your hump day work lunch or the Netflix and chill casual dinner, this is your place. It's reminiscent of a typical New York Chinese store front. Our go-to local spot for good generic Chinese-American food, and they cook it very fast. Never had a walk-in order take more than about five minutes or had to wait for my steaming hot phone-in upon arrival. I've had lo mein (house special is loaded), fried rice, mongolian beef (tons of onions), szechuan stuff, sesame chicken, etc. Fried dumplings are great and come with a very tasty sauce, though they are of course not in-house and have the rare mystery hard pork chunk. Spring rolls & egg rolls are generic as expected but also very tasty. Hot & sour soup seems to range from very spicy to not spicy at all, but I can eat a cheap quart of it while it's still steaming hot. Cheap lunches combos are discounted for the nearby high school and they have a few tables (if you must). Lemon/sweet & sour chicken are really the only disappointments I've seen as they're just generic light-breaded chicken chunks on a "bed" of lettuce with a VAT of flavored syrup - but the kids insist on it and love it. I've never tried anything with seafood as the main ingredient. You can depend on coupons every couple of months in the usual mailers. Same girl and her family are always there on the weekends and very friendly both in person and on the phone. Occasionally they throw in some free almond cookies if I'm with the kids. Everything is well-packed and protected against leaks. One gripe is that they don't seem to offer brown rice and no delivery. read more

This place has some good food. Sesame chicken is great. It's like $6.70 for lunch including a can soda. Portions are large, I'm full after and I'm a big guy. It really is one of the better Chinese take out places out there. I work about 2 miles away and I think I had this place 5 days in a row once. The owner is the one at the register usually. She is nice I guess. I think "neutral" is more the word I want to use. Dine in is ok to say the least. Tables are few and the place is a bit run down. I've been back and forth about writing a review for 10 years now!!!!! It's a catch 22 for me. First off, they food is good. I am a picky person and HATE those fast food Chinese food chains. They aren't that. The veggies are clearly fresh cut, not frozen or over cooked. The meat is average, its not grey, frozen "what is that", but it's clearly not prime choice. My issue is, and has been for ten years, the service. The same people have been running this establishment for as long as I've been here. They just seem unhappy, why? I don't know. Maybe having customers is annoying? Maybe they aren't living their dream? Or perhaps they hate the service industry.... again, i don't know... I just really hate patronizing an establishment that seems to be annoyed by me ordering from them, for ten years... I can't complain about the food. They do a really good job. I saw pretty good reviews for a fast-food Chinese place and thought I'd give it a try. When I went to pick up my food, I was surprised to see so many people dining in and waiting to pick up take-out on a weekday evening.The place is pretty small with only a few tables and hidden in a corner next to Food Lion. I ordered the crab rangoons, veggie lomein, and shrimp w/ chinese vegetables (bok choy) for take-out. The crab rangoons were good; it's in a triangular shape instead of the crispy wonton-shape. The veggie lomein was okay. So on their menu, the other thing I ordered was labeled "shrimp w/ chinese vegetables (bok choy)." However, I received shrimp and mixed veggies such as cabbage, carrots, snap peas, mushrooms, and broccoli. Now, I'm pretty sure these are not bok choy, and there is another entree option that says "shrimp w/ mixed vegetables." Either they got my order wrong or they just didn't have it and didn't feel the need to let me know? Oh, and the small sizes are tiny portions. I was glad I ordered both the small lomein and small shrimp dish. All in all, I was disappointed. Although I'll have to drive a good distance, Pearl near NC State has some great fast-food Chinese. But I think I'll stick to the authentic stuff and head over to Gourmet Kingdom. read more

So I just ordered the chicken lunch special and when I came home to eat it...this was not chicken. it looked somewhat like chicken but definitely was not...it had a similar texture to chicken. I'm not sure if it was some sort of salty clumps similar to what chicken would taste like? I'm wondering what the heck is wrong with this place to serve that crap to customers.
