    Hot pot pepper chicken. Delicious!
    Erik S.

My. Goodness. This place was absolutely delicious, and such a welcome surprise while we were on the road back from the coast. We really wanted a good Asian meal, and not typical takeout, so we got on the Yelp app while traveling through Raleigh, and found this place not too far of our route in Cary. It's in an international themed shopping center a bit off the main drag, and honestly, the vibes hit us just right from the moment we got out of the car. You walk in and you can see the cooks at work to the left, the restaurant is bright with lots of blue and a large mural to the right. We got immediate service, the menu is large and daunting. There is anything here from more typical Chinese American cuisine, all the way into more esoteric options for the experienced eater. We ordered a bit of both, starting with some simple steam pork dumplings, beef lo mein, and an order of hot pot pepper chicken. Everything came out mostly together, with the hot pot chicken served in a wok, keeping things steaming. Everything tasted and looked exceptional. The dumplings were a lovely texture, with plenty of meat filling the pockets. Beef lo mein was a top notch versioin of the takeout classic, with a tangy flavor and a good amount of meat. All that said, the hot pot pepper chicken absolutely stole the show! This was a robust dish, plenty here for a meal plus leftovers first off, but beyond the perfectly crispy outside and tender inside chicken pieces, we really got into the sliced cauliflower and veggie mixture. Over a bit of rice, this is a dish we won't be able to resist again, not that the others weren't an easy re-order as well. This spot will be on our minds everytime we head into or through this area from now on. Thanks for making it a top notch road stop Chengdu 7!

FLAVOR and Homemade. I really enjoy the meal anytime I eat here. The flavors and texture are so very good. Spicy, chewy, sour, and overall flavorful. The service is friendly and the menu is large but all executed very well. Check this small local business out!

These are obviously deep-fried dumplings that were supposed to be pan fried.

I was so excited to try this place after looking at the reviews online. I ordered beef, lo mein, sesame chicken, pan seared dumplings, and eggrolls. What I got was fried dumplings, which had little to no flavor. The beef lo mein was good, but not great. The sesame chicken...Blah! No flavor whatsoever. The eggroll was just OK as well. We are from the Chicago area originally and are trying to find a great Asian restaurant but this did not do it! Super disappointed that I've seen many pictures of pan seared dumplings only to have them deep fry the ones they gave me. That is a pet peeve of mine. Lazy! They were packed, that's for sure, but I was just super disappointed in my experience. Paid $40 for the meal for takeout.

No frills but who needs them! The hand pulled noodles are sooo chewy and delicious. All of the food comes out quick and hot! The servers are quick and efficient. The single chili pepper on the menu is definitely not mild, but just the right amount of heat for me who likes zip but not misery with my spicy food. With said, don't underestimate the spicy! This is my go to spot when I'm in town!

Excellent food. If you want a legit Szechuan experience, hand pulled noodles and handmade dumplings. This is your place! The people were so nice and the restaurant is very clean. The decor is very lively and fun. Don't let the unassuming exterior keep you away. It's worth trusting me on this! 10/10 must try!

Chengdu 7 is hands down one of the best Sichuan restaurants in the Triangle area. If you love real, bold, authentic flavors, this is the place. My absolute favorite dish here is the 小炒黄牛肉 (Stir-Fried Yellow Beef) - it is simply outstanding. The beef is tender, juicy, and full of wok aroma, perfectly stir-fried with fresh chilies, garlic, and scallions. The heat is just right, the seasoning is spot-on, and every bite is packed with flavor. This is the kind of dish that keeps you coming back again and again. We also enjoyed other classic Sichuan dishes, and every single one was well-balanced, fragrant, and authentically prepared. You can really tell the chefs know Sichuan cuisine - nothing is watered down, everything has depth and character. Service is friendly, attentive, and efficient, and the atmosphere is comfortable for both family dinners and gatherings with friends. If you're looking for real Sichuan food, not Americanized versions, Chengdu 7 is a must-visit. Highly recommended - especially the 小炒黄牛肉! We will definitely be back!

Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs (far left), Szechuan Style Cold Noodles (far right)

I've been to Chengdu 7 a couple of times and while it hasn't been my favorite, I really enjoyed my most recent visit. I ordered the sweet and sour pork ribs and the Szechuan style cold noodles, both were delicious and definitely worth coming back for. The restaurant interior is a little outdated, but it's clean and the service was good. One cool feature is that you can watch the cook hand-making dumplings and noodles.

This was the hand pulled noodles with garlic. I cannot remember the name of it.

The food were delicious! We were greeted with smiles and very well taken care of by the staffs! The place feels warm, comfy and family friendly.

Sizzling Steak on a Hot Iron Plate

    |Overview: + Authentic spicy Szechuan cuisine + Big bowl of beef noodle soup for affordable price + Fairly good customer service + Overall food quality is great - 91% Sanitation Score - Dull ambiance with old-looking seats and bad lighting - Amount of beef in noodle soup is little - Some appetizers like beef tripe are pricey |Full Review: My girl & I went here around 9PM, and our first impressions of Chengdu 7 weren't good. The 91% Sanitation Score was concerning; my girl asked if we were sure if we wanted to eat here. I told her that not a lot of restaurants were open after 9 so we decided to give it a shot. We were the only customers dining in, and a young waitress took us to our cheap-looking seats illuminated by dull fluorescent lights. Ambiance is clearly not ideal for a romantic date night. Chengdu 7's photo-filled menu offers authentic Chinese -Szechuan dishes, including a wide variety of beef at various spice levels. I ordered the $18+ Sizzling Steak in Hot Iron Plate, which came with strips of steak, bell peppers, scallions & white onions. It also came with a small cup of white rice. My order lived up to its name as it arrived sizzling on a hot iron plate. It tasted how I expected it to be: not spicy but tasty. Wish I had the option to get fried rice instead & amount of rice was not much (waitress did not offer to refill rice). Overall, it was good but not great. My girl ordered the Beef Noodle Soup, which was served in a large bowl. She was surprised to see the large amount for a $12+ bowl. It was much bigger than the $16+ bowl of beef noodle soup we got from Wheat in Chapel Hill just a few days ago. She said she wouldn't be able to finish it despite having to share with me so she asked for 2 smaller bowls for us because she knew that there'll be leftover for take out. A Chinese gentleman whom we assumed to be the owner came to help cut the long rice noodles with scissors, so my girl can transfer some of the contents of the soup to the smaller bowls. We were thankful for his caring customer service. The beef inside the noodle soup was well-cooked and tender but the amount of beef chunks was lacking; my girl wished it had less noodles and more beef. The broth was fine. Overall, not bad for $12+, which was about the same price as the beef tripe appetizer that we wanted to order but decided not to because of its price. Instead, we ordered a $12 Chili Oil Dumpling. The pork inside tasted amazing with the chili oil, and the texture of the dumplings was perfect. There's a good amount so we ended up taking out about 1/3 of it. Overall, I have mixed feelings about Chengdu 7. Despite the dull ambiance, low Grade "A" Sanitation Score, and some shortcomings in the food we ordered, it's still not a bad option if you enjoy authentic Szechuan cuisine at a semi-affordable price. Might return here to order for take out. | Overall Score: 3.9/5 | Recommended Alternative: Shanghai in Durham, NC

Food was exceptionally delicious with authentic flavor. I loved their Mapo Tofu. So fragrant and tasty. Service and ambiance were okay but the food is really good. I hope they fixed the credit card charger. I had to pay them via Zelle because their credit card charging system was not working a couple of months ago.

Always a great eat when I'm here! The ambiance is great, love the art on the walls and also love how you can see someone making hand-pulled noodles and dumplings. I personally enjoy the music here, very modern mostly family-friendly tunes from the current generation haha. Seems like they updated their menu with photos too, a little sad I didn't see the Dan Dan noodles since I felt like it was one of their specialties. I love coming here in groups so we can each more variety :) They always give out really great portions! This time, we ordered: -Beef noodles - thick: pretty solid! Can't go wrong. Meat is pretty tender, a lot of noodles. -Garlic eggplant - pretty average, without the sauce it would've been a bit bland. -Chong qing chicken - can't go wrong with this one, though it felt like it had quite a bit of pepper on the plate for its ratio -Spicy fish filet in chili oil - we asked for it to be less spicy cause it had three pepper signs, but I would do full pepper next time for more flavor! Service is always really quick, had our rice and water refilled consistently. Always a classic, definitely a favorite of mine and my roommate's in the Triangle!

This was so good!! The food came very quick and service was great. The hand pulled noodles were springy and so tasty. The wontons flavor was so rich and spicy, the beef soup was delicious! The atmosphere inside was very cute and I loved being able to see the noodles being pulled. I am super impressed and will definitely be back!

The food and the service at the restaurant were good. The portion sizes were very generous for the price. It was also cool to see the chefs making the hand pull noodle from scratch inside the restaurant. I will say to be careful in the parking lot as there are some potholes.

This place is completely different. You choose from several options of meal sizes and then you pick all of the meat and veggies from a giant list for each plan. At first I was worried we would run out of food...it just didn't seem like it would be a lot. But we ended up taking a ton of food home and we had 8 people and we got the combo for six!! I was actually worried about being full myself since I'm keto and I don't eat some of the items but I was plenty satisfied. They have a make your own sauce bar with a ton of offerings. Can't go wrong with peanut sauce and soy with some green onions. Perfect dipper. We also got two soup bases, one spicy one plain and they were both great. Service is really good. One of the kids dropped a tray of meat and they gave us another without asking which was very kind of them. All of the food comes on a cart and there really isn't a ton of room on the table for all of it so we were shifting plates around a lot and they would come by and take the empty or dirty plates very quickly. Drinks were never empty and everyone was friendly. It is a bit of an upscale style for a hot pot restaurant with some asian flair such as the Japanese toy vending machines. You can buy tokens for them at the desk, I think it was 6 for $5. Again, one of the kids dropped one under the machines and they just gave us another. I don't think any of them won anything anyway. I would definitely come back here for a date night but this place excels with groups and is very affordable with a big group so that's what I'd lean into if I was picking a hot pot restaurant.

Simply put, everything we ordered was a home run. The soup - Wonton - was splendid. The broth had far more kick, far more substance, far more taste than the stuff we've managed to get at other local restaurants - and more clearly matched what I've eaten in Chinese restaurants throughout Southeast Asia . . . and, of course, in my few trips to Beijing. The egg rolls immediately made me think of this little hole-in-the-wall take-out Chinese joint in Brooklyn that I recall . . . from fifty years ago. The place was situated on the corner of Bay Parkway and 86th street, right at the point where the elevated track for the B train was located - and immediately became my father's first stop as he descended the station's stairs at the end of his workday, leading right to the front door of that cookery. He always ordered an egg roll or two, ate one standing in the entryway to the cook shop, and brought several home. Those Szechuan Garden egg rolls immediately, for me, resonated with the vigorous, deep taste of those Brooklyn delectables. We had a simple fish dinner with white rice, and an eggplant cooked deeply and wrapped in a thin dough covering - never had eggplant that way before and it was, again, a home run. The fish was so very simple, so very tasty - unforgettable. Thankfully, we have enough leftovers to make for another great meal today. We now have a new favorite restaurant near our home in Durham.

We sat at the table with the individual pots and it was the right move for us. I was surprised by how full I left. I was a bit skeptical at first. But it's actually pretty easy to get a hang of it and isn't as overwhelming after a few minutes. They also do a cute sweet treat for birthdays! Overall, I would absolutely come back and do this again.

The waiters were great and helpful and attentive, did a great job with orientating us and helping us out. Upon ordering the food comes out pretty fast and they will keep up with you for sure! They have a self-serve sauce bar next to the free ice cream, which you should check out after your meal ofc! The beef tallow spicy broth had great depth flavor with the beef and the spice! Medium was kicking and was great for me! Their main bone broth was good too! Broth 4/5! Most of the meats were good, I can't remember which one was more gristly but one of them wasn't as good. But I enjoyed most of the meats they had and their meatballs and fishballs. Overall their protein options 3.75/5 Appetizers, the spring roll was great! 4/5 Dumplings were meh, not great 1/5 Dessert, ehhhhhh I wasn't a fan of their desserts. Good attempts but 2/5 Overall, I'm not a fan of how they priced their stuff out with all the extra add on pricing with the extra burner and broth but...everything was still pretty great and good service! 4/5 Would come again!

I came right before a show at the Alamo Drafthouse around the corner, which makes it the perfect night out for dinner and show. It looks like a lot of people order takeout here, but they have ample tables and do offer an excellent dine in service. I loved their green beans and eggplant. All their food felt more authentic and homestyle than your typical run of the mill Chinese place. The food had flavor, and it wasn't overly greasy either! I'll definitely come back next time in near north Raleigh.

I ordered the lo mein, bamboo flounder fish, and a side of fried rice. Unfortunately, the lo mein was extremely greasy, the fried rice was overly salty, and the shrimp was hard, overcooked and not fresh. When I informed the waiter that I would not be eating the lo mein due to its condition, I was told that I would still have to pay for it and that it did not matter whether I liked it or not. He initially refused to remove the dish from my bill. After eventually taking it off, he told me that he never wanted to see my face again as I was leaving. What disappoints me most is that I genuinely enjoyed this restaurant and had been a repeat customer. The decline in food quality combined with the way my concerns were handled has left a very negative impression. Unfortunately, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

The delicious smells wafting through the restaurant immediately let me know that I was in the right place. I ordered the Fatty Beef Szechuan Hotpot Yunnan Rice Noodle & Fried Dumplings. Both arrived in no time, and were piping hot on a cold winter's day. The fried dumplings were crispy, not at all greasy, and filled with very flavorful filling, coupled with a perfectly paired dipping sauce. The hotpot... oh, the hotpot, was filled with pillowy fried tofu, fatty and tender beef, cabbage, wood ear mushroom shreds, seaweed, bean sprouts, and a ton of noodles. All of this was swimming in some of the most amazing Szechuan peppercorn broth that was spicy, but not numbing and not overpowering. It was the perfect broth to wrap each ingredient in flavor. After I finished all of the delicious beef and veggies, I went for the noodles. I never really new what "bouncy" meant when describing noodles until today. They were truly bouncy in with every bite, silky smooth, tender but with a little bit of bite to them. I ate every morsel that I could fit in my stomach and not explode... this was the perfect winter dish for this South Florida eater.

The quail egg was the heart of it. Got the bone broth this time. While the broth is good, it's not great to the point I'd crave for this. I'm honestly not a big fan of the rice noodles but they went well with the broth. My girl got the noodle dish with the beef tripe, and we also ordered beef tripe for appetizer and milky rice cake for dessert. The beef tripe is one of our favorite appetizers, and it's perfect with Japanese beer. The noodles are a bit spicy but the spice level was adjusted low to my girl's liking. The rice cakes were good but not the best we've tried. It's something we'd order again though. For 2 people, we ended up spending around $50, including tips, so reasonably priced but not as satisfying as a dim sum dinner. | Overall Score: | Overall Score: 4.1/5

Noodle Blvd is located in a spot that you could easily miss, but it's easy to get back on track. I pulled into the gas station parking lot beside the restaurant, then just turned right into the restaurant parking lot. The parking lot is fairly small, so be warned about that. My friend was there when I arrived, and he sat at the bar. When I walked in the door, I was greeted with smiles and waves. It was very inviting, which is fitting for a ramen restaurant. My friend ordered us Lychee Margaritas, and oh my goodness, it was so good! We decided to visit right at opening on a Saturday, so the bartender was still preparing some of the ingredients needed for the margarita. The bartender informed us that it's usually better once a key ingredient sits for a while, but I loved the drink regardless. I ordered edamame for an appetizer, which came quickly and was good! Since I've never had ramen before, I asked our server what he recommended, and he told me about some of their most popular dishes. He told me the N9. Chicken Curry Ramen was a favorite of his and the patrons, so I decided to order that. It came quickly, and I was immediately in HEAVEN upon my first bite. I loved every bite after! I decided to play it safe with the spice and got level 2, but I can definitely go up a level or 2 since I love spicy. Highly recommend, and I will be back! Worth the drive from Clayton, where I live.

The short rib ramen was good, but the noodles were short, like they were cut or made short on purpose. The shrimp shumai was disappointing. Small bite sized portions, but they were soft. After cutting into one, I found out that they use rice as a filler with a bit of shrimp. I've never seen rice used in shumai, unless it's Shanghai sticky rice shumai. Also got a unagi don togo, it was good, just a bit small on the portion of eel, but it's hard to mess up an unagi don.
