Sesame Tofu
Mia C.

I was really impressed with my meal. I ordered Sesame Tofu, and the Tofu was cooked extremely well. It was crispy, and didn't have the typical soft texture of tofu that people avoid. The portions were also large, and I was able to able to substitute the egg roll for a spring roll making my meal vegan. Service was not as fast as other take out restaurants I've been too, but I ate in and could tell it was fresh. Also the pink lemonade was out, which was a bummer.

This is a pretty good place to come grab a filling meal on hillsborough street. It isn't my favorite chinese spot, but it's so close to campus that I can not complain. It's reasonably priced and since the portions are huge, you could easily save your leftovers for another meal later.

I'll have #2...

Alright, I've been eating here a lot... I mean A LOT. Why? Because it's a good value, it tastes good(now that I know what to order), they have free wifi, it's close to where I work, and they have the cheapest redbull in the area($2.19 yes the convince stores and bars all charge $3-$4). The first time I tried Golden Dragon I decided never to go back but I was a bit hasty. I ordered the peanut chicken which was dry but it was right at the end of lunch so it had been out for a while. I tried a month later, early into lunch and it was delicious. Next time I came back I got the beef and vegetables and was sorely disappointed with bland chewy beef covered with bland sauce. Fast forward a few hits and misses later... I order 3 things here now and love them. Spicy chicken; it's lightly crispy tossed with spicy seasoning, jalepenos, and scallions. Peanut chicken; just a great flavor, it's their signature dish IMO. Small wonton soup; it's $1.95. Basically it's 4-5 wontons with scallions that they pour a hot flavorful chicken broth over served with a side of fried wonton strips. It normally takes them a couple minutes to make but it's so good on a cold day. If I feel like a little spice I take a tiny spoonful of their chili paste and mix it in. I only get the white rice(unless the lady thinks I said fried rice then I get that because whatever lol) I just don't care for the fried rice or noodles because they're kind of bland.

Spicy Chicken - Hot Bar item! Delicious! The Best!

As a NCSU student, this is my GO-TO place for lunch. The price and quality of the food is great. Also to mention, the staff are nice people. The place is usually packed from 12-1 p.m. so be sure to go early if you want to eat in. The portions are HUGE for a meal under $5. My ultimate hot bar dish is the "spicy chicken". I would say that it's the best Chinese restaurant spicy chicken that I've ever had. Just a tip, go exactly at 11:00 a.m. for the first fresh batch, it's totally worth it! Two thumbs up for Golden Dragon!

Food was excellent. Cheap! Tasty. However, the ambiance was slightly lacking. No music, kind of dull. Overall, good experience. Would come back.

I went to the Golden Dragon one day for lunch when I was in Raleigh. There were a few pros and con to this experience however, overall, I thought the experience was just alright. First, the pros: the food being ready and the price. Most of the food is precooked for lunch. The restaurant is kind of set up like Panda Express. This is a nice feature for people who are in a rush for lunch. I believe there are a few other items that you can order that is made up fresh however like I said, most of the food is already cooked. The next pro about the restaurant was the price. Their lunch prices are about $5 for certain meals. This is a great price for lunch! Now onto to the con. There was only one con, the food. Overall, I wasn't really a fan of the food. I was hungry so I ate it but I'm not sure I would have ate it if I wasn't super hungry. Since I wasn't a big fan of the food, I am deducting two stars. I'm not sure if I would come back here again if I came back to Raleigh but it is a good place for people looking for a quick lunch. The other people I was with liked the food, and so I don't want to not recommend this place to anyone. Simona

Service: The service is usually super quick unless there is a line, and the staff is usually friendly. Ambiance: The interior isn't the nicest, but don't let the appearance dissuade you from eating here. The food is quite delicious. Food: I ate the sesame tofu with white rice, which was incredibly delicious. The sesame tofu is slightly crunchy and very savory. Another incredibly delicious dish which I always enjoy is their Singapore Mei Fun. Price: The price is pretty great considering the amount of food you are served. You could easily split the meal in two and have leftovers for later. They also have lunch deals during the week which are pretty good. Tip: Check out the Hooked app since they occasionally have some deals as many of the other locations on Hillsborough.

2 of my 8 crab rangoons for $4.95. So good!!!!

I'm from out of town and this review is honestly based on 2 things: the steamed dumplings and crab rangoons. I didn't eat there, I ordered pick up. I walk in and the place doesn't look the best, but that shouldn't stop you. I wish I could say more about the other food, but y'all........ those were some of the BEST dumplings and crab rangoons I've had in a looong time. You get 7 steamed dumplings for $5.95 and 8 crab rangoons for $4.95. I was traveling alone and I couldn't finish all of it. So much. It felt so wrong that I couldn't finish it and my hotel (Holiday Inn) didn't have a fridge so I had to waste 1 Rangoon and 2 dumplings. I sure gave it all I had. But again, 100% worth it!!!!! Hopefully the other food is just as good.

Really bad. Just ordered from door dash. Stale. Not crispy. Had a bad after taste. The egg rolls were total mush.

I came right before a show at the Alamo Drafthouse around the corner, which makes it the perfect night out for dinner and show. It looks like a lot of people order takeout here, but they have ample tables and do offer an excellent dine in service. I loved their green beans and eggplant. All their food felt more authentic and homestyle than your typical run of the mill Chinese place. The food had flavor, and it wasn't overly greasy either! I'll definitely come back next time in near north Raleigh.

The shrimp, beef, & chicken meal would've been okay if the beef hadn't been questionably fresh (I didn't eat any after the first bite) and the tough, overcooked shrimp. I tipped 15% because the service was terrible. Aside from the lady yelling, "It's okay?" from the kitchen, she never checked on me. Usually, I tip between 25-30%. After I paid and left the restaurant, the rude cashier followed me out to my car. Pointing to the receipt & tip, he yelled, "This is it?? %15 tip??" The only positive thing that I can say about Chuan Cafe is that the Diet Coke was good.

Maybe it's because I lived in Wake Forest, maybe it's because I work there still, IDK, but I've glad I can make up for lost time now. A friend wanted to meet for lunch and suggested this place. Funny thing, he got the orange chicken and didn't really like it. It is VERY orangey. I got one of the other lunch specials, I think maybe the beef basil one. Mine was good, so good in fact that a few weeks later when my family was needing an Asian fix, I sent them to Ni Asian. They were pleased, but got Chinese food. Last week, my daughter and I went, and wow, yes, WOW............I got the noodle dish listed first on menu (not a lunch special), ad it was good, but my daughter got the Pad See Ew, something I have never ordered, being a Drunken Noodle fan myself..........but I tasted hers, and it was so good, I was jealous. So, yeah, we went AGAIN yesterday, she got the Pad See Ew again, and I tried the Drunken Noodles, which were amazing..........not spicy like I'm used to getting, but so flavorful. What will I try next?

The bill was brought to us shortly before we stopped eating, but the staff were not over visiting the table to rush us. I left a double tip since we were there for over an hour during the lunch rush. I was actually a little nervous going in because certain Chinese dishes tend to upset my stomach, so I tried to avoid some of the heavier noodle and chicken dishes that normally do that to me. Honestly, I think that was the best decision because I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and felt completely fine afterwards. I started with the crab rangoons, which were perfectly creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside -- absolutely delicious. Then I tried the pork-filled bao buns, which was my first time ever having them, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed them too. Everyone else at our table seemed to really enjoy their food as well. I genuinely didn't hear a single complaint. We also ordered some drinks that were delicious, and both our server and the rest of the staff were absolutely fantastic and very welcoming throughout the night. The atmosphere and vibes inside are honestly one of the coolest parts of the experience. It somehow feels like a mix between a brewery, a florist, a bookstore, and a Chinese restaurant all at once. It's such an interesting and unique space that doesn't really feel like anywhere else. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would absolutely come back to try more items on the menu.

I stopped in just a they were opening on a Friday and thank goodness I showed up when I did, this place gets packed quick and you should book a reservation to be on the safe side. I was most excited about the duck egg rolls but ended up being my least favorite not because they were slightly on the dry side. Flavor was good, and the hoisin honey sauce really helped! The seafood dumplings were second best, stuffed full. The soup based was amazing and it also came with some bread for dipping in the leftover sauce. The pork and chive shumai were my favorite! A little bit bigger than bit sized but worth the mouth full! Absolutely would recommend. I'll 100% be back for more food. The bar side looked to be more casual, the dinning room was full of high tea attire so I did feel a little under dressed, thought it would be slightly more casual. They have the cutest library with free books to read but only while you dine in. The flower and book shop are in the middle of the space. Super cute, limited options but great for a last minute bouquet!

Food was impeccable. I'll be back!…read more On a Saturday night around 8pm, I ordered a bunch of food for about 20 people as an impromptu post graduation dinner at my house. We were ravenous, but had an intense Chinese food craving, so we ordered Chengdu 7 food from Uber Eats. Food did not disappoint! We ordered sesame chicken, chef special fried rice, chicken fried rice, Mongolian beef*, shrimp fried rice, and everything was delicious! Fan favorites were the Mongolian beef and chicken fried rice, but honestly EVERYTHING was good. And you can tell a lot from a place by how they package your food: food was delivered in tightly seeled packs and labeled! It sounds minor, but is so helpful when you're feed 2 dozen hungry people. The flow of food to our table was great, not too fast or rushed and not too slow. Our waitress was wonderful and ensured that our group had everything that we needed to enjoy our meal. Will I be back again - Absolutely!! Everyone in our group agrees that this is the best Chinese food anywhere! I will caution some seeing this review that unlike many other Asian restaurants, if you order a Hot and spicy dish here it will indeed be very hot. I consider that to be good because I enjoy hot spicy food, but for those who cannot handle hot food stick with the milder dishes.

There were tables to seat 4, two tall stool seats by the window facing the parking lot, and a tucked away spot with a folding chair beside it and had cups of utensils on it. I ordered the cold flour noodle with sesame sauce and the shaanxi mutton soak buns. Both were tasty and the cold noodles were refreshing. The employee described the mutton soak buns dish as a soup soaked pancake which is pretty accurate. It reminds me of a rice porridge but with chopped dough instead of rice. The restroom is in the back through the kitchen which is kinda cool because you can see them rolling out all the round flat bread that they use for the dishes. I'm guessing it's what they use for the rougamo (I've seen it at other Chinese restaurants described as a Chinese hamburger) and the shaanxi soak buns. It almost has a gnocchi type of consistency. It isn't your average fried rice and stir fry type of Chinese restaurant so if you're looking for something like that it might not meet your expectations. I would definitely come back to try other menu items. Also, get the plum juice. It's delicious!
