Unfortunately had a very poor experience with Handyman Connection, and it's contractor. What was suppose to be a 1 day project turned into a 7 week disaster. The contractor they used had such a poor attitude the entire time, and made mistake after mistake and tried to take too many shortcuts that resulted in extremely poor quality of work that continually needed to be redone. The contractor kept talking about how poor the company was, and specifically used many vulgarities in describing the owner of the company as well. After attempting to deal with the owner, I can see where the contractor was coming from. Once the problems started, I attempted to contact the owner on multiple occasions. Was told they would always call me back - never did once, despite knowing there were problems. Then, when collecting payment after this nightmare project was over, the owner finally tried to talk to me right on the way out as the contractor was several hours late and wouldn't move their vehicle out of the way for me to leave. I told the owner I did not have time to talk to them at that moment, and then got a "grow up" email from the owner later that night (amazingly unprofessional), simply because I did not have time to *finally* talk to them at that exact moment after they *never* returned any of my messages over the last several weeks. On top of that, they tried to bill me for work that was part of the signed scope. Lesson learned - will never hire a company that simply outsources the work to independent contractors. Too risky, and quite frankly they don't care when things go wrong. They will say "Well I could've just left the job..." ... Again, crazy unprofessional. UPDATE TO OWNERS RESPONSE 11/15: It's quite sad that the owner of a company has to resort to absolutely ridiculous lies. There is no cat - the owner of the company actually made up a story about a cat to justify their job. Even their own two employees (independent contractors) who were the ones that did the work commented that they installed the wrong screen and had to tear it to get it to bend around the frame and they needed a different material. No one ever said anything about a cat. There was no "special order" that took 6 weeks to arrive - the contractors bought everything at the local hardware store. It's just a screen - nothing special. On top of that - the owner never once "personally contacted" me or anyone else. How sad of a human being do you have to be to make all these things up to cover up for a simply poor job by the contractors you hired? Oh, and 2 of the 3 contractors literally quit during the job, citing the owner's lack of professionalism and not paying them. That pretty much sums up the owner of this company. read more

I overpaid for a mediocre job, by an unprofessional handyman who put my children and my home at risk. I experienced the following issues with the handyman who came out, Joshua Briggs: 1. When he arrived to give me a quote, he didn't bring his quote forms. He asked to borrow my computer and printer to print one. 2. He told me the work would be done by 5pm (I explicitly confirmed this as I have young children I needed to pick up from daycare). He wasn't done until 8:30pm, more than double the time he told me it would take. 3. Although I had moved everything in the work area out of the way to avoid dust, he used my baby's bottle warmer and kettle as weights to keep his dropcloth from falling off my kitchen counter. As a result, both were filthy. If there's one thing you want to keep clean and sterile, it's a baby's bottle warmer. 4. When I left the house to collect my children, despite having told Joshua that I would be under 15 minutes, I came home to an empty house and my house UNLOCKED. He had left my house to go and buy a drill (what kind of handyman doesn't have a working drill?) 5. He left knives on the floor of my kitchen, in a home that clearly houses very young children. I was forced to prepare dinner for my 9 month old and 3 year old working around exposed blades and mess (which wouldn't have been an issue at all if he had finished at 5pm like he said he would). 6. In hindsight, I was overcharged for the job: over $550 to patch a 12"x18" hole in my drywall, and it wasn't even sanded afterwards (or painted). I acknowledge that this was my fault for accepting such a ridiculous quote, and I wouldn't have an issue if the job was done well and professionally. 7. When I complained the owner called me to apologize, making excuses that he was newly hired. Not my problem. The only remedy I was offered was $50 off a future job. In case it isn't clear, there will be no future job. Ever. A pathetic response. 8. They then had the gall to call for feedback AGAIN a week later, and when I gave it, she couldn't get me off the phone fast enough. I overpaid for a mediocre job, by an unprofessional handyman who put my children and my home at risk. Never again. ************************* In response to the Owner/Operator comment below: 1. I acknowledged I signed off on the price all along. In hindsight, after talking with neighbors, I realized I was overcharged. My mistake, but it all contributes to a bad experience. 2. I would expect I'm not charged for him leaving to go to home depot THREE times. A simple drywall fix should not take 7 hours. 3. As stated I removed all contents from the area. He went and got the bottle warmer and kettle. As the owner states he was not there, but he is taking the word of this contractor who already showed poor judgement in leaving my house unlocked and his box cutter blade out on the floor (see point 5 below). 4. I was only a few minutes. I left at 5:03pm and was home by 5:20pm. I told him I was going to get my kids. The contractor didn't buy drill bits, he bought an entire drill. He unpacked it in front of my while I was feeding the baby. There's running out of supplies and then there's not having the tools for the job. 5. See attached photo of knife on floor. In his estimate, the worker could only give a total figure for all four tasks. A breakdown by task would have come in handy if I wanted to postpone a particularly expensive, but not urgent, task. Thanks to Dale M. For a wonderful job at fixing the drywall and floor panel. Called other general contractor business and they never called back or was rude. Handyman connections customer service was exceptional. She was nice and professional and booked an appt for the same week. Dale M was on time and very professional. Quote was a good price and he returned the same week to do the work. Dry panel was perfectly done and he even fixed the fence. Was very helpful. I recommend him and Handyman Connections. They care about customer service and they are very punctual. Dale arrived on time for both appts. Very friendly, very professional, and a nice person. He made sure that the work was at the best quality. Did not expect it to be done so quickly. Dry wall looked like there was no damage at all. Also, he was very meticulous to match the paint. Most recent job skipped over the details. Details matter, Not trying shortcuts and half doing the job. I won't use them again.

I'll start by saying that when you hire any sort of contractor it's a "roll of the dice", meaning you might get someone really good, or you might get someone really bad. Unfortunately, we got one of the bad ones. First of all, the person in charge of our job wrote it up as two separate contracts (which we thought was really weird) and then he wanted us to make the checks out directly to him (not the handyman connection). We were in a time crunch because we're trying to get our house on the market so we reluctantly complied. So far we haven't paid the handyman connection a penny, everything went directly to the man in charge. I wrote a message to the handyman connection about this to see if this was a common practice and just like modern day customer service, I got no response. The guy assigned to do the work would show up late just about every day and on day two, he didn't show up at all. At this point I was ready to see about "firing" you all and getting someone reliable. There were also several things on our list of things to do that they did not even do. We had another group of contractors working in our house at the same time doing some painting and drywall repairs and those guys ending up doing several of the drywall repair jobs that the handyman connection was supposed to do. And I bet you that handyman connection will try to charge me for that work. One of the jobs they were supposed to do was replace a window in the basement. These guys "replaced" the window, you know what they did? Took out the old one and screwed the new one into the old wood frame. Wow, I could've done that! I got them to do it properly but like I said in the first paragraph about good and bad contractors. This was a contractor that you have to watch every single moment. The main job that needed to be done was to have some walls built in the basement around an existing toilet down there. The goal was to turn this into a 1/2 bathroom. The manager of the job didn't want to bother with getting a building permit. I wasn't all that sure if we needed one or not but to be safe I went ahead and went through the process of getting one and the inspection is coming up on Tuesday. I sure hope it passes but my main worry is since they tried to get around the permit, there was no way I was going to be able to get the inspector out there to inspect the framing before they put the drywall up. So when the inspector comes on Tuesday, I'm hoping I don't have to tear into the finished wall so he can inspect the framing. But we'll see. Wish me luck everybody! Anyway, the job was completed eventually but it took a lot of babysitting on my part. So to sum it all up my biggest complaints here were: 1. Paying money directly to the person in charge (shady practice in my opinion) 2. Lack of response to my question about whether #1 is common practice. 3. The dodging of getting a building permit (like I said, I don't know if we needed one or not but to be safe I got one but this is something the contractors should be doing, not me) 4. Contractor was late a lot (on one occasion didn't show at all and never told me that they wouldn't be there) 5. Contractor would try to cut a lot of corners (so I had to babysit them) So that's about it. I'm sure this place has some good contractors that do excellent work but I got one of the crappy ones. So there is no way I could recommend this place to a friend. However, the other contractors I mentioned that did some of the work that handyman connection was supposed to do, these guys were EXCELLENT! Showed up early every day, was prepared, had a crew of workers and did great work and was very efficient. If anyone wants to know who they are, let me know, I will gladly refer them. read more

I give the workmanship of the deck a C- at best. The board placement is not uniform, with some gaps in the floorboards more than big enough to swallow standard high heals and lose small objects. Many of the boards had cracks, gouges and holes in them that flaked when probed and also take away from the aesthetics of the deck. I was told the deck would be comparable to my original deck, however, it is about an inch lower than my original deck, which leaves insulation exposed. There was also damage to the siding stripping under my sliding door which the company refused to fix. When I complained about these things, I was told the company would review and discuss my concerns with me, however, all I received was a call demanding payment as the project was completed. I pointed out the project was not completed as they had not had the debris removed. The owner was a bit nicer in tone once I pointed that out but made no attempt to address my problems. The deck was priced lower than all of the other bids I received. However, if I had known that the price included shoddy workmanship and supplies I would have gone with another bid. On the plus side, the workmen assigned were pleasant and easy to communicate with, and the project was completed within 1 week of the promised completion date (1 day delay was due to weather). Initially we thought we would be stuck sleeping in a cold drafty bedroom with huge gaping holes in the attic. Long behold David came to our rescue just in time. Getting house prepped for sale. Had many projects - replace faucet, replace outside trim work, repaint front entry, regrout tile in shower, repair holes and cracks in dry wall, re-tape dry wall in garage, install new exterior lights, touch up caulking and paint inside. Oscar was our handyman - he was excellent, could not have asked for anything better. He was professional, personable, responsible...there just aren't enough words. He did all the work with precision and care, but did not waste a lot of time. He planned the work effort so that he had no dead time. I was extremely impressed with his work flow planning. I was even more impressed with the quality of the work he did. There were no issues...everything was done...the right way! Greg arrived on time, and called me with a fair quote for the work. Everything was done quickly, and expertly. Don't use this company. I called and scheduled an appointment. I spoke to a woman who took all my information regarding my service needs, e-mail address, and address. I was supposed to hear from the company the day before, which I did not. I then called the day of service and spoke to another woman who said she would forward my message to the office. I still did not hear back, so I called again and spoke to "Mike" who said I was not scheduled for service. I hired them to do work to include changing out the glass shower frame and removing the bathroom vanity. The company was great with a schedule change brought on by my wife's surgery. After that it was downhill. They showed up without the shower glass and had to order it which took 10 days while one guy slowly did the requested painting. Finally on the last day 3 guys show up to do the bathroom. The shower glass wasn't properly measured. Rather than get it right it was installed crooked. Somehow that's the showers fault according to our site boss. The vanity top we ordered for the sink sat higher than the old vanity top (our fault). Rather than ask, they installed the backsplash and cut trim causing damage that can't be undone. This also pushed the mirror up which caused a plug to go off center. Vanity tops are also not drilled for the faucet because they are drilled for the particular faucet you picked when installed. The site boss bid the job but obviously doesn't know plumbing and said since they aren't drilled they can't do it. Leaving me with two sinks that don't work. Another expense. They then tell my wife (while I'm working) this is what we did and leave her no choice but to say ok. All of which is sitting pending the shop manager to arrive. That was to happen this morning. My site boss showed up with no manager. Why would I only want the guy who messed up my house to show up? Oh and the ceiling paint doesn't match the old paint, but that seemed like they are fine with it. If you need touch up drywall work done they are excellent.
