Loaded Fries
Ishaan I.

Fried chicken and sandwiches--what could be better? The fried chicken sandwich, of course! I tried finding a good fried chicken sandwich for years and have been left disappointed. When the Popeyes fried chicken sandwich came out, I was ecstatic. But a few years later, with the chicken being too oily or rubbery, I had to start my search all over again, which is when I chanced upon Hangry Joe's. The store itself is minimal but clean. The decor is straightforward and functional, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a meal. The cleanliness and simple layout contribute to a pleasant dining experience, even though the focus here is clearly on the food. The service at Hangry Joe's was efficient and friendly. The staff were attentive and quick to take our orders, ensuring that we didn't have to wait long for our food. The overall service experience was positive, contributing to the enjoyment of the meal. Hangry Joe's offers large portions that are more than enough for one hungry person. Their Joe's sauce is to die for, adding a unique flavor that enhances the overall sandwich experience. They have a wide range of spice levels to satisfy anyone's spice craving. I love spicy food and find the medium spice level to be a good balance--spicy enough to enjoy but not too spicy that it's hard to eat. However, fair warning: having it while hot increases the spice level by one, making it pretty hard to eat. Additionally, I highly recommend trying their loaded fries, which are amazing with a very large portion enough for 2 people, and come with a lot of chicken, making you want more fries! Overall, my experience at Hangry Joe's was excellent. The minimal but clean store and efficient service further enhance the dining experience. While the fried chicken sandwich is fantastic, the loaded fries are a must-try and might just become your new favorite.

Disgraceful location. Has a Mega Sandi combo listed in the drive thru for $14.95 but when you go to pay, it's $15.99. The employee said it's because of the new owner. Also, instead of a fountain drink they just hand you a can of soda. WTF. It's not about the $1, I just absolutely hate SHADY nickel and dime practices. Customer rapport means everything to me and you've damaged it. Over $1 you're going to lose a customer for life.

Time will always tell if a restaurant keeps it's standards up, hopefully they realize that opening time is opening time. Food is still great but some standards and consistency need to be upheld.

I ate here again tonight, a Sando Jr sandwich (mild) combo. This is hands down, the best chicken sandwich around. You have to wait 5 or so minutes in the drive-thru but the food is super fresh. The sandwich is still piping hot when I get home. The waffle fries are great. So damn good.

Self service ordering, doesn't work yet.

Sandwich is expensive, but huuuuge. Mild is plenty spicy. I don't think I would order it any hotter. Waffle fries are ok. I'm not sure I would order from here without someone to share with. A combo for one costs too much, AND would feed two. That's all.

Holy moly, this is probably one of the largest chicken sandwiches I had. The flavor of the chicken was great (I ordered mild) but the coleslaw could be slightly better since it lacked a bit of fresh flavor. Fries were plentiful and kept me munching on them throughout. The special sauce they have is absolute killer. More than made up for any lack of flavor. I definitely recommend ordering ahead, otherwise you'll prolly have to wait 10 to 20 mins.

If you're into spicy chicken that's served up quickly then Hangry Joe's is the place for you! This is Nashville style fried chicken with Korean elements. Waffle fries, nuggets, fingers, you name it, they got it. The Korean chicken nuggets are offered as soy garlic flavor "with a little kick". We found my wife's nuggets to be more like "a lotta kick". Too much in fact - she couldn't finish it. I got the #1 "sando". And there was a lot of chicken squeezed inside that bun. Some tangy slaw and pickles added made it a worthy adversary but I was able to conquer it single-handed nonetheless. I found the sandwich good but nothing outwardly amazing. The waffle fries are just like you find everywhere else, served with a side of boom-boom sauce. The chicken fingers are served with a slice of soggy bread underneath. Sorry...no alcohol here (that includes soju my friends) which is sad. No boba teas either, but they do offer smoothies. They have fountain refillable cups with all their combos. All in all, the place is good for a family eating alternative to McDonald's, Wendy's and Arby's. It's spicy fast food. You don't get epic raves about fast food...but it fills another niche on Liberia Ave which is quickly becoming foodie central for Manassas and PWC.

Oh boy, it deserves to be on the list! (and we've tried 3 out of 10 from the list). The chicken was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. It was super crispy without being greasy. No residual grease on the serving plate/box. We've tried the wings, the chicken sandwich, and chicken & waffle (tenders). All items were very good. The only thing I didn't care for is coleslaw. It's little too sweet for me. I think next time I'm gonna go for Mac & cheese or spinach as the side. Also, they have options for mumbo sauce and honey mustard. The service was also great. The food came out within reasonable time. The guy who took order was helpful and patient. Unlike a lot of fried chicken places, the restaurant didn't smell like grease and it's clean. 10/10 will come back for more. PS: They also have other locations. I'm not sure which one is the OG, but this location (Manassas) is the one on the list so I assume this is original location (?)

I like that you're able to choose up to 5 different types of sauces for your chicken. However, I believe the chicken could use more of the sauces requested on them. Also some of the sauces taste kind of similar to me (korean bbq, soy garlic). Sweet & spicy sauce is marketed to be medium spicy but did not taste spicy at all to me. After getting the "just crispy" no sauce chicken I realized this chicken does need to have a sauce. Fries weren't anything special but crisp. With the way the package is I wish there were more fries but am happy the item comes with fries. Ordered the sparkling watermelon soda and got the melon version instead. Have never had this korean soda and it complimented the meal.

We got soy garlic, citrus honey, sweet & spicy, miso bbq, and korean bbq. We wish the flavors were labeled on the box, because soy garlic, miso bbq, and korean bbq tasted way too similar. We had to do some detective work to distinguish the flavors, but they were all tasty. My favorite was the citrus honey - the creamy drizzle on top with the tangy and sweet sauce was really good! The fries were also great - crisp with a fluffy interior. The service was just ok - not rude, but not friendly. I'm excited to try their other menu items. Nice job, Bloom!

It sits right across the street from one of my top 5 favorite fried chicken shops, Nash & Smashed. They have some decent competition - That's what I thought before I stopped in. I am very thankful to the Crimson Coward chain for offering a $5 discounted meal for first-time visitors! I ordered the 4 piece tenders, in country style (no heat). My body seems to be that of a crybaby when it comes to handling spice. I ordered the food just after they opened, at 11:06, thru their online storefront (website). I arrived to pick up the food at around 11:20. They were just packaging it up to go out the door, and I was the only one in the restaurant. I'm sure if there was a line or quite a few more orders it would have taken longer. The food was packed in a small folding box (just like KFC style), but contained no napkins - so be sure to grab those before you go! The chicken was moist, tender, and juicy! The breading was thin, yet slightly crunchy. It seems that they make this perfectly! My compliments to the crew. It was done very well. The tenders were as big as my hands, and just as thick! They were quite large! I'm not sure I've ever seen tenders quite so big, that weren't 50+% breading alone. But no - these were genuinely large - They must have been the beast of a chicken yard. Tender. Juicy. Perfection. You get 4 slices of pickle with the meal, and for a pickle-lover like me that was great! They're not terrible high-class tasting, like a Claussen-brand pickle, and have a hint of bread-n-butter taste to them, but they're decent! But, the reason for the score being as it is, is because the flavor profile didn't fit to the fireworks sparkle that hit the chicken towards a home run. The seasoning landed a bit short, and flat. I was expecting a myriad of blended herbs and spices to match the exquisite look and tenderness of the chicken - but it never came. I couldn't tell you what herb or spice it was that felt so strongly, but there was one element in the spice package that dominated everything else, and just fills the nose and mouth with that one flavor over all else. It's not a bad taste by any means. It was quite enjoyable as-is, but it's nothing overtly special to write back home about. I wouldn't travel from far just to get this chicken. One other thing that bothered me was that they seemed to offer mac & cheese with other things mixed in but yet not the mac & cheese by itself on the side. Yet, you can get slaw, onions, pickles, and all these other condiments and flavors by themselves - just not mac & cheese alone. Sad! A terribly missed profit-maker for sure... If there's one thing people want with good fried chicken it's mac & cheese! I believe that's written in soul food lore somewhere... Lastly, the sauces that came with the food -- You can pick your own, and by default I went with the Crimson Sauce, and ranch. The ranch fell a bit flat. It's not an expensive or savory ranch; it's just a bottom of the barrel 2D ranch. No eccentric savory flavors, or myriad of tastes. There was clearly no buttermilk in it either, it just felt a bit sad. That's not to say it wasn't good, but it left me longing for a bit more. The Crimson sauce was good. It had a tiny bit of heat -- similar to something like your average green peppers, or mildly spicy fresh-made salsa would give off. Something your old-school no-spice white granny could order and eat with no complaining. The sauce was good and flavorful. Between the 4 tenders, 1 cup of ranch, and 1 cup of crimson sauce, I finished my meal just as the sauce cups were being wiped empty with the last bit of chicken meat. A refreshing and enjoyable experience, but nothing to drive out of your way for. I enjoyed the meal, and would come back - but I wouldn't go craving it once a week for the rest of my life. Good for a passing meal when you're sick of eating the same ol' Taco Bell, KFC, Chipotle, or McDonald's meals, and want to change it up a bit.

I added this casual spot to my list a couple months ago, but didn't have concrete plans to check it out. Driving to Manassas and back on I-66 from where I live would cost half of my brain cells and all my patience. However, a few friends and I drove out to Shenandoah this past Friday evening, and I made a convincing argument that HawaU would be on the way. By the time we arrived, we were all incredibly hungry and ready to wolf down anything edible. The ordering process was easy: we ordered and paid at the counter, grabbed a seat at one of the few tables, and waited ~10-15 minutes for the food (parts of it are made to order). LOCO MOCO (BOWL) - 9.99 The chipotle-sized bowl was topped with loco moco: white rice base topped with hamburger patty, fried egg, grilled pineapple slice, and a generous pour of beef & mushroom gravy, plus sides of fresh cabbage salad and mac salad. The gravy nostalgically reminded me of the ones I'd get from cafeteria-style school lunches -- thick, salty, slightly starchy, yet oddly comforting. The egg, hamburger patty, and rice were pretty standard, but the familiarity of the gravy tied the whole dish together nicely. Both salads were good -- the cabbage was more light and refreshing, while the mac salad felt a bit heavy after all the loco moco. Since it's my first time eating loco moco, I can't say how it compares to others. However, I found HawaU's incredibly comforting and hearty. It really hit the spot for me, and I ate the whole bowl within 10 minutes. The loco moco is definitely their signature option and a must try. My friends who got the spicy pork bowl and udon thought both were just OK and not special.
