The actual "Mega" Sando with the Soy Garlic sauce. It was delicious, but you can see why the advertising is misleading.

There has been a wealth of new fried chicken joints opening up in the Triad lately, and while we all love more options for crispy fried poultry, they all come with their own nuances. This spot, Hangry Joes, in my opinion has more in common with Korean style fried chicken, than a Nashville hot, or traditional southern place. The menu is diverse, and they make everything look exceptionally large and tasty... honestly, in my opinion, that ends up working against them. Compared with what is presented in their imagery, you are nearly certain to be let down by what you are given. Let me explain. I ordered the "Mega Sando Combo." The picture of a huge chunk of chicken spilling well outside the bun with plenty of tangy slaw and pickles really sold it as the thing I want. Also, when words like "Mega" are used, you are specifically creating large imagery. The reality... it's an 8 ounce chicken breast. The sandwich given to me was larger than one I would be handed at Chick-Fil-A, but not A LOT larger. It all fit completely under the bun. The amount of slaw on the sandwich was very modest... i would even say sparse. While the sandwich was absolutely tasty, my expectations were way off base, and they designed it that way. I think that's a bad thing. The price was also pretty Mega, and the amount of fries it came with... weren't even medium. We had the same issue with the loaded Mac n Cheese bowl. Again.. pictured as bountiful and spilling over the top. Reality, you would not have even had to press down to put a lid on it to go. It all was below the threshold. They also should be serving the sauce on the side with the bowls... there was so much buffalo sauce in the bowl it just tasted like eating a bowl of sauce rather than sauced chicken with mac n cheese. I have now learned my lesson. I'll come back, because really, both the sandwich and the fries were very tasty... but to be honest, not as often as I'd like, and with expectations that I have now created for myself, as opposed to seriously way overblown menu images.

(3.5 stars) I'm a fan of Nashville hot chicken and was looking forward to having an option closer to home than Timmy's. Hangry Joe's can scratch that itch and does a respectable job for a chain, but this place isn't without its limitations. If nothing else, Hangry Joe's has proven popular in the short time it's been open. I stopped by just after 2:30 on a Friday to find the restaurant full. Granted, it's a fairly small space (plan on takeout if you're coming with a group), so it filled easily. Ordering via touchscreen was convenient as is the option to order ahead online. The Hangry Joes menu holds a lot of appeal: sandwiches, wings, fingers, chicken and waffles, salads, shakes, and more. You can customize the heat level on everything, and the wings offer both dry rubs and wet sauces. I went with a Sando, medium heat. Given the volume, the wait time wasn't too bad, and the staff here are welcoming. The Sando was billed as a smaller version of the Mega Sando, which led me to think regular instead of a large. Perhaps I should have been thinking mini instead of a regular as this sandwich was small, especially for $7. That said, it was put together well and fairly tasty. The chicken was surprisingly juicy and well-sauced, the pickle slices were thick, and the spice level was as advertised. Hangry Joe's showed enough promise to merit a return. Don't expect to be blown away, but do expect convenient, flavorful chicken that brings the heat.

Wanted to like this new chicken joint in High Point. It wasn't awful, but I wasn't really impressed. The service is what you'd expect from a fast food restaurant. The place is small and it was fairly clean, tho I never saw the sanitation grade. I had the wrap and fries. It fell apart and didn't look to be toasted like pictured on their menu. I did like the waffle fries, they were seasoned. The spicy soy ginger sauce was good. The chicken wasn't anything to brag about. My son wouldn't even eat his chicken bites. My husband ordered their "Mega Sando" and said it was just okay. It wasn't as big as the picture, either. We tried it. Probably won't be back.

The staff is extremely friendly and patient! Place is really small. Not sure if they're trying to do mostly takeout. One bathroom is a bit tough too when it's busy. Their rice bowl with red hot garlic sauce is outstanding! Rice is cooked well, even the romaine lettuce is a nice touch for crunch. The wings were tasty. Flavors are nice. The wing zing and soy spicy garlic are distinct and flavorful. I prefer the traditional over the breaded. Their hangry sauce is nothing different than the zaxby sauce, the big Mac sauce, chikfila sauce .. you get my drift. This has a bit more kick. Overall it's tasty, but price is a bit high. $29 for 18 wings is a bit much. But other than the price and the close knit quarters, I'd come back for that rice bowl alone.

First Hangry Joe's experience! I was told it's essentially the same as Dave's and I can see the similarities, but in my opinion I can't directly compare the two even though that seems to be the common theme. My boyfriend and I stopped in to try a sandwich. I liked the decor, the option of ordering on the tablets, the rewards program offered, and the staff were nice. Parking was seamless. I did notice they offer Pepsi products and I'm a Coca Cola girlie so had to take a point away for that! (Kidding..sort of). The menu offers more options than its alleged competitor with more sauce options and entrees, unique ones at that like the rice bowl and chicken and waffles. We opted for the Spicy Soy Garlic flavor for the sandwich. We waited a while for one sandwich BUT it was hot and fresh so I think it was a nice trade off. The chicken was huge and had nice crunch, seasoning and the flavor was delicious. The slaw and pickle were nice and refreshing, and the sauce was pretty tasty. All in all I think it was a pretty good value for the price, albeit a tad pricy but it's a big sandwich. Now, on its own I'd rate it an 8/10 based on what I tried. Compared to Dave's, I would give it a 6.5-7/10. I live ~30 mins away from this location and closer to a Dave's. Would I drive here over Dave's? Absolutely not. Would I come back if in the area? I would! And I think it's worth a try.

I GIVE IT 7 Overall the food was alright,I ordered chicken and waffles and was good but I said mild but my chicken was hot. IT was real busy but everything was running smooth. They had great customers service, it was clean. The chicken was too salty but it was nice and hot. IF you go let me know what you think. It was nice inside.

I decided to stop into Hangry Joes this week. While it is one of MANY of the new chicken eateries in High Point that seem to be popping up EVERY five minutes, I was excited to give them a try. I was welcomed to the store by the employee behind the counter while the manager was slumped at a table tending to something that was more important. I ordered the Mega Sando Combo which included an 8 oz seasoned chicken breast with choice of spice level, topped with cider slaw, pickles and Hangry sauce on a Brioche bun. Waffles fries and 24 oz drink at a cost of $14.95 it felt a little "high" but I went with it. I then waited....and waited...and waited. I am not sure what the hold up was in the kitchen but something was happening. One thing I did notice while waiting for my food which I was not a fan of and probably needs to be addressed is that a GRUBHUB driver came to pick up their delivery order. The young lady behind the counter handed over four cups for the driver to fill at the drink station. I am pretty sure this is in violation of health code standards as well as GRUBHUB standards. My food came to my table hot and ready to eat. I ordered my "sand" with the medium heat sauce. Let me just say this that medium is a HIGH medium! It was sauce and sassy. The fries were perfectly crispy and seemed to have some sort of seasoned coating on them. The interior space was small and had about 5-6 tables. Mostly 4 tops but there were two 6 top tables. Would I eat here again? Yes. Would I order grubhub for delivery from here? NO.

All of the employees we encountered were very friendly. Ally was our server and was AMAZING. We told her it was our first time there and she gave us some great recommendations. They also made a really good margarita and I am not typically a fan of traditional margaritas. The food and drink recommendations she made for the table were great, and the onion rings are definitely the best ones we've had in the area since relocating here. Both sandwiches we had were great. The Chicken Philly had a little bit of a kick to it, which made it a nice change from usual Philly sandwiches and the Cuban was different from a traditional Cuban as it had some barbecue sauce on it. It was a little different for me at first, but I ended up really liking it. Both salads were pretty big and both people really liked the salads. The person that got the blackened grouper Baja salad thought that the grouper was fabulous, seasoned perfectly and loved the salad overall. This will definitely be a place added to our usual rotations...

Great casual atmosphere, the staff have really come into their own, and the food is simple but has little touches that often make it a small cut above most other sports bar type places around. My favorite things to order are the smashburgers, chicken philly (almost as good as the one at Old Town, a restaurant also belonging to this same owner), and now the fish and chips. I decided to get those last night, and the fish was two good size thick cod filets, fried and breaded perfectly. The fish was flaky and tender, the remoulade it came with really elevated it, I'm glad it was not plain tartar sauce (gross). The appetizer favorite here is the pulled pork nachos for me, otherwise, we usually just get meals. If I had one small complaint, it's that the tea is usually brewed pretty weak. Steep it a little longer, and you've got me fully hooked.

My husband and I were in downtown Greensboro on a Saturday afternoon and decided to hit this place up for lunch. When they called the place The Bodega, they really mean it's a bodega. It's decked out like a small convenience store from the second you walk in. We ordered our food at the cash register to eat at one of their tables outside. The cashier brought our sandwiches out about 10 minutes after ordering. I ordered the Turkey Caesar. It had turkey, shaved parmesan, marinated cherry tomato, house-made Caesar dressing, onion, and romaine lettuce in an 8" sandwich roll. It was a little pricey at $15, but it was worth the splurge. The dressing and parmesan cheese were unbelievable! Since this is in downtown Greensboro, there is no dedicated parking lot but we easily found street parking nearby. The place has a few tables outside for customers to enjoy their food. If you're looking for a good sandwich, I highly recommend checking The Bodega out.

It's a little set back from the main thorughfare, but now with the food hall and other development happening nearby, I passed it a couple times and got curious about it, so finally stopped in. The building, the parking lot, everything about it is in serious need of a remodel. Curb appeal certainly limited, but I didn't feel that the inside was unclean in any way. Just very old and dated. Places like this often sneakily have some of the best food, so this didn't deter me. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you, get your own drinks, which really is about all I ever want in a sandwich shop. I had the club sandwich with fries. It came on nicely grilled bread with a decent amount of cold cuts, cheese, and bacon. They subbed in honey mustard to replace the mayo as I asked. It came with a HUGE order of fries! The fries were well done, maybe a little more cooked than most would prefer, but they were perfect for me. If I had eaten them all, I would have been very full. Flavor on everything was satisfying, nothing crazy, price was pretty good as well. Overall, I think I would come back here on occasion, for those times where you need "just a lunch" where it would serve me well.
