I was in town and had a taste for some shrimp. A family member said they normally go here for wings and it's pretty good so we looked at the menu I saw the fried shrimp and called in my order. When we went to pick up the food the staff was very friendly and welcoming. They did have a bar area as well as indoor seating. I can tell this place probably gets a crowd on the weekends. I ordered the fried shrimp with the sweet potato casserole and mac & cheese as well as the seafood combo with mac & cheese and green beans. The food was GREAT. Well seasoned. Everything was good. We came to visit here on a Saturday evening. The place is very modestly decorated with nothing that really stands out good or bad. We had a party of 6 so not a super small party but also not massive. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken quickly. Unfortunately after that, things slowed down. Once we finally ordered multiple people at the table had salads, however only half were brought and the waitress quickly walked away before we could ask about my salad. She then did not reappear for over 5 minutes and we told her and after a few more minutes my salad came. After a pretty long wait after that, probably close to 40 minutes after ordering the food came. Well, most of the food came. Two people at our table were missing side orders. We again waited on the waitress to return and once notified things were finally brought out. The food that we got was all pretty good but the repeated forgotten items and rarely being checked on made this a less than stellar experience. All in all the food was good and I might give them another shot, but if I got poor service again I would probably opt to not return. read more

University Kitchen comes highly recommended from locals in the High Point area. One night my husband and I decided to try it out and overall we will be back to try more. This spot has a pretty good menu from subs and sandwiches to full on main course meals with great sides to choose from and a piece of garlic bread to top it off. My husband ordered takeout and got their wings which happened to be a very nice size and he loved the flavor. I got the meatloaf with brown gravy which happened to be a bit disappointing. You get to choose between tomato sauce or brown gravy, even though I chose brown gravy mine came with tomato sauce baked on top and brown gravy poured over that. As you can imagine it wasn't an appealing combination. We also ordered a grilled pork chop meal to try which came with two very good portions of grilled chops and were tender and juicy! These meals all came with choice of two sides and all of them were great from the pinto beans, sautéed spinach, mashed potatoes, and collard greens! Each meal also came with a side of bread and we both opted for garlic bread which was also great! This is diner food with Southern comfort service. Family friendly, with an added little bar and select drink menu, which I feel is uncommon to find in these kinds of establishments. I want to say our server's name was Kristen, apologies if I'm wrong, but she was ever so attentive and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Other employees were also friendly and manager/owner checked in us. Lots of regulars it seems. Chicken livers were a bit over done to my liking, collards don't appear to be grandma's homemade style, more like the Old Glory canned I buy (but I buy them right?). Wish they had chow chow for the pintos. Maybe a few tweaks here and there like a bit more sauce on spaghetti, but again, you know what you're getting. I've past this place a thousand times and didn't know it was there. While getting my bike tuned at Bicycle Toy and Hobby I was waiting in my car and saw people walking into this place. I looked them up on yelp and decided to give them a try. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and mac & cheese with cornbread. Hands-down, the best meatloaf I've ever had. Cornbread and mac & cheese was delicious. Mashed potatoes were just OK. Portions were huge so you can make two meals out of it. Prices were very reasonable at around $11 bucks!! I have fairly often eaten here and have had favorable results except for water logged salads. It seems that issue has been solved. I was very disappointed on October 4, 2024 when my chicken livers were over cooked, crispy when i asked for medium cooked. I've had them before when done almost perfectly. My fresh broccoli was under done even though waitress had told them they needed more time and didn't come with my livers. I went ahead and ate the food than wasting it by rejection and waiting longer for my food.. ... It should have been done better to start with. The manager or owner at check out, offered nothing for poor quality food, simply saying i should have sent it back... I think in interest of good customer service and relationships he should have deducted something from my bill or given credit in form of a gift card. It left me with a bad taste in my mouth so to speak and my mind.... I hope they do better with quality of cooked food and make an adjustment if things aren't right!! read more

I held a grudge against this location for the longest after they got rid of Libby Hill. All that went away when I decided to give them a try for lunch. Our first visit here was a pleasant one, for the most part. This placed opened in what had originally been a Libby Hill Seafood location, and housed the short lived Cast Iron Kitchen. The owners also operate the Pizza Wing King on the other side town, and the menu is very broad, part new school diner, part pizza joint, part pub food, and part sandwich joint. The interior is rather modern in design, well lit, and loaded with booths & tables. There is a small bar area as you enter, and limited beer and wine choices are available. This is a "Wait To Be Seated" restaurant, and the young lady who finally seated us is far from the warm, personable individual you want to be your customers' first contact, in fact there were several sour faces around. Finally seated, menued, and drink orders taken, we had a chance to look over the large selection of items. Alice went with the Chicken Fried Steak w/ White Gravy, along with a House Salad & Mashed Potatoes (with more White Gravy). I picked the Fried Pork Chop Sandwich, lose the mustard & add mayo, and a side of FFs. The food arrived in a timely manner, and nothing disappointed, nothing! The Salad with Blue Cheese Dressing was large, fresh, and very good. The Chicken Fried Steak was a bit on the small size, but there was a ton of Mashed Potatoes and a great roll, as well, crusty and loaded with butter! The Pork Chop Sandwich was my choice because I love a good fried pork chop sandwich, and this one was a rarity, it was served bone in! Some folks wont like this - How do you eat a pork chop sandwich with the bone in, they'll say - slowly, carefully, and joyfully! The FFs were a nice serving, and of the seasoned variety, very nicely done. We finished with a huge slice of Coconut Cake that was superb - moist and loaded with flavor, couldn't finish, brought the rest home. This restaurant is right on North Main Street in High Point. There have been several different restaurants in this location over the last years. Its a nice looking building on the outside and the parking lot is large with plenty of room to park. Inside the place is showing its age some. It has an older family restaurant type of feel. The menu is large with lots of choices. There are appetizers, sandwiches, burgers and plate lunches. Really something for everybody. The service was ok. Nothing to wow me, but it was adequate. It took a minute for the food to come out, which means it was cooked to order. Everything was hot and fresh tasting. I went with the chicken bacon ranch sub and home made chips. It was a good amount of food for the money, and everything tasted good. They say the subs are oven baked, and mine had just a little crust on the outside of the bread which was a nice touch. Just enough ranch to let me know it was there. The chicken was nice tasting. The chips were cooked up nice and crisp, and weren't greasy. Others in the group I was with got various items from the menu and nobody was disappointed with their choices. It all looked really good. Several televisions positioned throughout restaurant playing different channels. If you come for lunch you can grab a great deal. A small pizza with up to three toppings with a drink and either wings or salad for under $7! Service is great, owners are very personable as well. We ended up at this restaurant when the one we intended to dine at down the street decided to close an hour before their posted closing time. I had heard this place had something for everyone and that the food was pretty good, so we decided to give it a shot. The verdict is that there is definitely something for everyone, but I would say the food is pretty average. Kind of what I expected when there is such a vast menu. That means a lot of things on warmers, previously frozen, etc. We love pickle chips, so we decided to go with those for an appetizer. Unfortunately, these are not the in-house battered variety. They all have an identical look and amount of breading. The taste is uniformly bland. We didn't finish them. I had honey bbq wings for dinner since the sign outside boldly proclaimed BEST WINGS IN THE TRIAD! They were good, certainly something I would order again, but definitely not the best wings in the Triad. The ranch they came with was tasty, they were crispy, and the honey BBQ sauce was good but a bit ordinary. My wife went simple and opted for the chicken tender dinner. It was a very generous amount of chicken, and they were good. Again, I think these are the frozen variety, but that doesn't matter to me if they come out tasty, which they did. Her Macaroni and cheese side was the baked kind, and the highlight of the meal to me. In the end, I think this is a fine place for people who have no idea what they want to eat and just want a quick meal to get through the day. I used to love university kitchen I sent many friends there, but last time I visited rubbed me wrong. I entered 30 minutes before closing. I let an older go in front of and me and older personnel got yup to pay so I let them go first. I get to counter and I'm told we are no longer taking to go orders due to kitchen being behind and would take 35 minutes . I was like ok that sucks but I get it. I turn to leave and notice guy I came in with that came in and went to bathroom is at counter ordering and I stated so why does he get to order. The excuse that he was here before but in the bathroom is what I got. I stated we came in together but because I waited for few elderly people to go ahead of me now I can't order. Then he said well you can order but we close at 8. It's one thing to to say we are backed up, but it should apply to everyone. Not eating here again. As soon as we sat down, a swarm of gnats flew up into the air from our booth. The booth had something dirty on it. The food was mediocre. I got a Reuben, and it was dripping fat onto the plate, which is really unappetizing. They didn't put the thousand island dressing on it either. Loved that this whole area was full of small locally owned restaurants instead of the same old food chains. This was a great little find. The restaurant was cute & the food was great. My son had the parmesan chicken w mac & cheese. The chicken was smaller portion than a 16 boy wanted but he said it was really good. The mac & cheese, well he had 2 orders so I guess that says enough. My others half had the Greek Burger. He liked it, he likes to try new stuff. I tried the steak medallions cooked medium. They were delicious! I would 100% go back just to order those again. I ate most & took every remaining morsel with me to have later. Well, even cold hours later they were still tender & delicious. Food is always great here. Main complaint is the staff didn't wear masks, they don't use disposable menus, and they recycle ketchup bottles. In today's environment, I don't understand why any wait staff wouldn't want to wear masks to protect themselves and their guests. read more
