I am the biggest fan of fried chicken sandwiches!!!! This was one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I have ever had. Just look at the photos this chicken and the bun was huge. It was the size of a small infant head! Let's just start off by saying this was the last day on our trip in Maui and I just wanted something quick and easy and on the cheaper side cause everything has been so expensive. So I looked up the food court and saw that this place had numerous different types of dishes and restaurants within the shopping mall. There's nothing really fancy about this food hall, it pretty much looks like a cafeteria. We come from San Francisco so we're used to food halls being fancy five star blah blah blah. This is definitely a bang for your buck kind of place. I could see that a lot of locals come to this place for lunch as well. Walking up to the chicken restaurant I walked up to a kiosk and ordered my food through there. It was about 15 minutes. I wanted to say until I got my food and when I saw it, my eyes grew so big! The chicken was so moist, and there was so much flavor that it was like bing bang in my mouth. I got mine very spicy so definitely if you're looking for spice to order it spicy. It must be my lucky day, because normally when I scroll through Google looking for something to eat. It's usually hard for me to pick something out of a line up of restaurants I've already tried before. So this time was easy. A name I didn't recognize appeared on my screen. Plus since I always want to try something new. Let's see what Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken has to offer this not so hangry yet, girl. So far so good, their stock photos look appetizing. I already picked out a list of items I'd like to try like the: Chicken Sando, Chicken Fingers, Chicken Wrap, Loaded Fries, Salad w/ Chicken Breast as well as the Loaded Mac & Cheese. As for my first visit I chose to try the Loaded Fries with Medium heat & my fiancé chose the Chicken Bites in Mild. Just to be on the safe side when trying out new restaurants as to what they consider to be spicy. I'll usually start in the middle & work my way up on spice. Mild or medium didn't have that kick I was looking for so I'll try hot on my next visit. Just not sure which item will win my pick just yet. However I am a fan of their logo & overall atmosphere. It's a fun restaurant to order at. They have 3 self serve kiosks to order from. The two on the outside are for ordering Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken & the one in the middle is for ordering off of the dessert menu. Which being that I'm usually not one to order soda. I was extremely excited to have an option to order a Thai Tea Boba from here too. So there's still plenty from their treat menu that I'm eager to try as well. My only suggestion I can think of is maybe having different size options to choose from. Cause my loaded fries came in a massive box. It was enough to feed me for 3 meals, breakfast, lunch & dinner. Dating tips: If you're on a budget take your light eater here for an inexpensive date & just take your leftovers to go. The staff was nice--super friendly and welcoming, but let's be real, the main reason you go to a food place is for the food, and this was absolutely atrocious. Yes, atrocious! I was starving after a long day of ripping gnarly waves and decided to try a new spot (a mistake I won't make again). The chicken? Seasoned on exactly one side. Not terrible, but not great either. I'd give it a 4/10 and honestly, two of those points are just for the sauce. Now, the real horror began with the mac and cheese. I first noticed Hangry Joes on Door Dash the other day & was instantly drooling. Today (Labor Day) i was surprised to see them as the ONLY establishment open at the Kau Kau corner. They have 3 kiosks to order from with your card, far left is for desserts & the 2 to the right are for the main course. Or theres a cashier to the right for cash transactions. We order a VARIETY of items (totaling $99.99) and were quite pleased with the flavors and the portions alike. Everything came out hot and fresh and the staff was very pleasant. SPOTLIGHT for us was the cookies n cream milkshake, not sure what they put in there but I would come back JUST FOR ONE! A lesson for us is to get the sauce on the side for the loaded fries (it was a LOT of sauce), they offer this option on the kiosk. The only thing I'm disappointed with (and the reason for not giving 5 stars) is the Mac and cheese. The photos make it look pretty appetizing/appealing & more homemade. HOWEVER once I got home with the order I realized it looks just like KRAFT blue box. Listen I know there are many fans & that's all good, honestly if the pictures had represented it accurately I would have known what I was getting myself into. Got an Uber eats order from here and the food was delicious!! We tried the Sandwich and the chicken tender combos. The tenders come with a slice of bread too which is nice! The Mac and cheese is just Kraft but they say that and it helps cool down that fire big time!! Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because we didn't get any napkins and we really needed them! I discovered this place less than a week ago and been there twice already! I ordered the chicken tenders combo, it comes with 4 mild chicken tenders on sandwich bread, hangry sauce (which is soooo good), coleslaw, pickles and honey butter fries. The chicken tenders was best hot ofc but I ordered at the kiosk and my food came out fairly fast. Maybe because I went when it wasn't busy, idk. We ordered the sandwich mild, which was nice and juicy with a huge piece of chicken, the wings medium, which were tasty and just the right amount of heat (I wouldn't have wanted any more), and the loaded waffle fries which had an INSANE amount of chicken on them - more chicken then fries! We were excited to learn this establishment was finally open and decided to venture there last week. The family and I were fairly disappointed. First of all, the ordering kiosk was quite confusing with so many selections needed for one item. We ordered some wings, selecting buffalo sauce as opposed to a dry rub, but they failed to include the sauce. The wings were also undercooked with the larger drummettes still bloody on the inside (dangerous). We had to recook them at home in the air fryer. Also ordered the loaded mac-n-cheese which was way over loaded with chicken but only a sprinkle of pasta. This truly is not an exaggeration! We were expecting a full container of mac-n-cheese with just a topper of chicken and jalapeños but got the opposite. The dish in general was okay. We most enjoyed the cider slaw which was light, crisp, slightly sweet and a pleasant departure from the typical milk-mayo coleslaw.
